Do we have any sense of self left? Or are we robots. Do we find ourselves constantly in a state of decay, or will we find new growth beneath the dead and dry underbrush of life, feeding on the bodies and death of our predecessors, just trying to build a sense of self for the coming light. We’re not anything new. We’re the same biological machines fighting for life and just looking to do less damage than those before us.

If we can stop the decay, there’s a sense of love underneath, the need and want to find a better way to help each other stop the decay. Equal beings regardless of ability, we as a people need to play on the strengths of ourselves and others to create a better whole. We find that in a life that such as this, we’d rather take it all upon ourselves, than find humanity and become a whole. We hold ourselves accountable for every little instance of failure, regardless of our involvement. We are the solidified sense of self eroding under the waterfall of the tyranny we’re subjected to. Breathe life into your brothers and sisters, feed their passions and starve their inequities to death. If we don’t feed the negative the beast cannot grow. If you feed your negativity it becomes something more than itself.

A hulking, breathing shape, we find ourselves cowering in the corner, hidden from the darkness under a blanket with a light. When we find in our mind a sense of beauty, even in a dark place, it shines. A little goes a long way with negativity. They say to silence the beast, an equivalent of 7 positive feedings must be attempted for every negative feast. We CAN outshine the dark, but we cannot do it alone.

A signal in the dark, a beacon of light. It’s a risk like any other to fly the flag of light. It makes you a target to lost souls, coated in the dark, thriving in it. Lost souls have shaded the light, they look for any way to dampen it in themselves and others because they cannot handle to dare see it in themselves. This is not their fault necessarily. They’ve had it ripped from them, the love of the light, the love of the love, the sense of strength that comes with it. The conditional light presented to them is artificial, a tit for tat representation of self. They’ve been burned by artificial light, huddling too close to the coil hoping for heat, hoping for warm, and only finding a blinding light to illuminate the beasts in the dark. In seeing the beasts that roam the dark, there’s a sterility. The artificial light can reach them, but they cannot feel it. Clinical sterility pure and true. Cold in the artificial light, wading through the muck that comes with it.

There are beacons of light, they shine themselves regardless of adversity. It feels like a futile effort, and the beacons themselves have their own inner darkness, the beasts not vanquished, but controlled. The beacons of light have learned to fight their own, and have tools to help others fight theirs. To help them become a beacon, this beacon imparts their gifts. There is no obligation to be a beacon. Only a sense of duty, and love for humanity. Beacons of light are a gift to humanity from who knows where. People, beacon or otherwise need to find themselves in the dark. We can wade through the muck and detritus, but at the end of the day, we cannot find them if they do not move at all. Bodies in the muck don’t scream. They float through the muck, they fight through the muck, claiming that their only goal is to garner success in the situation that hinders. If they remove the shade, even for an instance, we can help. One cannot connect light, beacon or otherwise if there’s no light to connect to.

Sometimes a beacon may be hurt, or scared. Sometimes people start as beacons, and have it taken from them. Sometimes a person becomes a beacon through their experiences. Sometimes the muck drowns them. We mourn the fallen, but we do not envy them.

Being a beacon does not mean you are without dark. It means that we feel the dark, we listen to what it’s telling us, and we direct the psychological dissonance toward growth.
