#stop throwing other autistics under the bus because allistics hate us

I’m so tired so I’m just gonna say I fucking hate every single allistic who tries to “understand” us autistics like we’re some kind of animal I fucking hate allistics who provide performative “accommodations” that they literally say “won’t work for everyone” (by which they mean they’ll only help people who can easily pass as allistic without even trying) and most of all I fucking HATE autistics (and allistics) who don’t need that much help or accommodations who act as if their experiences are the norm and tell other autistics that our experiences are fake, not real, invalid, overreactions, ridiculous, and stupid just because we can’t fit into the perfect little box of “sweet uwu girl who just likes to talk about her special interests sometimes and displays barely any autism symptoms” (no hate to people like that. but it’s so so SO fucking tiring to see people act like they’re being “progressive” by acting like every autistic person is a young white teen girl who displays like 2 autism symptoms at the most and only shows them when it’s convenient)
Above all, I fucking hate every allistic who has ever said “just try harder I don’t mind if you mess up” and then proceeded to guilt trip and get upset at autistics for not being able try harder because autism is a disability, not something we can just turn off whenever it’s causing problems.

Why I hate the common portrayal of autism in media
I felt like my reply to that taptrial post on Sheldon Cooper’s bad autism rap was hijacking the post a bit so I’m reposting it here. At allistic people, stop normalizing the social response of mocking autistic people for their bad symptoms. Push us to get help for our bad symptoms instead. Because sometimes we don’t always notice unless someone flat out tells us we’re crossing important boundaries. Pushing us to get help when you think we’re relapsing is so much better than mocking us for being “weird.” It not only reaffirms that you care about us on bad days too but it’s actual support. Stop accepting this willfully ignorant trope and telling us to accept it uncritically too. Also the other problem with it being the only rep we have is a lot of people who only see this end up assuming all autistic people act that way. It throws autistic people who’ve been forced to learn how to mask their symptoms under the bus. That’s exactly why it’s ableist. It ignores the autism spectrum entirely and results in those who don’t mirror the common tropes being ignored. It’s ableist and it makes you a bad autism ally if you’re an allistic writer/artist who thinks all of us should be portrayed like this to impressionable audiences. As an autistic person I’m sick of this being the only rep we ever get to have. It’s not helpful and it never will be. And tbh? I know there are some autistic people who relate to this portrayal of autism. But people excusing that trope because of that reason are missing the point. Like what my post said the problem is that media loves to ONLY give us that portrayal, at the expense of other autistic people who don’t fit it. Most likely because it’s easier to write, since it takes less careful research. Most likely so they can avoid having autistic writers join in, to help improve said rep. But more importantly for them it also means they don’t have to self-reflect on their own potential ableism. Besides that, when allistic writers/artists indulge in this tired trope I have a hard time believing there’s no ableism involved cuz that’s the case SO often. It’s the bare minimum of respecting us as people and I’m fed up with applauding allistic writers for that. I just feel like allistic people will never truly understand us until they know what it’s like to have our emotions daily. And tbh this applies not just to the writers of Big Bang Theory but other shows/stories that rely on this trope too much.
