Saviorless: The First Major Indie Title from Cuba with an International Publisher
Tumblr media
Saviorless captivating story driven 2D platformer game is coming to Linux, Mac, and Windows PC. Thanks to the skilled folks at Empty Head Games for their hard work and creativity. Due to make its way onto Steam soon. Saviorless is due to release on April 2nd, 2024, and it's developed by Empty Head, a Cuban indie studio. Published by Dear Villagers, this release marks a huge milestone. Why? It's the first major indie title from Cuba to team up with an international publisher. Let's dive into what makes Saviorless stand out on Linux. First off, the visuals are all hand-drawn, bringing a dark, fantasy vibe that's both unique and intriguing. You're going to be exploring the Smiling Islands, which, despite the name, are anything but cheerful. Think nightmarish monsters and eerie landscapes – the kind of stuff that makes for a memorable experience. You'll play as Antar, The Savior, and Nento, delving into a story that's as broken as it is fascinating. It's more than just progressing through levels; you're piecing together a tale that's scattered across the game. This isn't your typical story approach, and that's what makes it so much more engaging.
Saviorless - Release date announcement
youtube
Here's what's even more impressive – the journey to get Saviorless out there. We're talking about eight years of hard graft, through ups and downs, like budget issues and even a trademark conflict. The team even faced the loss of a key member, which could have derailed everything. But they pushed through, with Dear Villagers' support, to create something that's not just a new title – it's a labor of love. You're not just playing a new title here; you're unraveling a mystery. Those nightmarish monsters? They're in your way, and you've got to deal with them. The story isn't handed to you on a plate either; you'll find bits and pieces as you explore. Due to add more depth to your adventure. The impact of Saviorless goes beyond entertainment. This story driven 2D platformer is a symbol of resilience and creativity, showing that even under tough conditions, remarkable things can happen in the gaming world. So, whether you're on Linux, Mac, or Windows PC, dive into the Smiling Islands. It's not just another title to add to your collection; it's a whole new world to lose yourself in. Keep an eye out on April 2nd on Steam.

It’s probably a long shot at this point in time, but I kinda hope we get to see more story driven shows similar to Amphibia and Owl House in the next couple of years.
Much as I enjoy shows like The Ghost and Molly McGee, Big City Greens and The Loud House, I kinda don’t want the self contained episode structure to be the norm for animated shows going forward. Because that’s just gonna create stagnation and I don’t want to go back to that mid to late 2000′s period of animation where everything was self contained.
Executives have this mindset of “Everyone should be able to watch a show regardless of which episode they stumble upon” which is an alright concept in theory, but more often than not, show runners end up sacrificing story and character development to make that happen.
Look at what happened to The Owl House, the first season was kinda all over the place because the crew were forced into making each episode feel self contained. Thus Amity and Lilith’s character development felt rushed because of it.
But at the end of the day, it is what it is. I can’t force anybody to make more story driven shows and creatives shouldn’t be pressured into creating the next big hit.
Whatever happens happens. I’m just here for the ride.

So I’ve been really getting into running and a running app called Zombies Run! A immersive podcast, storytelling style app. You play as a runner (someone who outruns zombies and gets supplies) in this world’s version of a zombie apocalypse. I’m on episode 7 right now and I’ve enjoyed it quite a lot.
Since I can draw I’ve been really wanting to what I think the main character looks like (as well as other main characters). I’d defiantly love to draw more of these characters and I hope to get to it soon!

Video
I finally made the feature that this game is named after-
SO. In this game, you have a meter called your “desperation”. It’s the blue bar in the video and that meter is constantly creeping up in almost every battle you get into. Once it hits a certain threshold, the amount of damage you take multiplies. HOWEVER, the amount of damage you dish out ALSO multiplies.
Tumblr media
Once the desperation meter maxes out, you take 4x the damage you normally would (so if a slime were to hit you and only deal 10 damage normally, you’ll now take 40 instead). The trade-off is that you also dish out 4x the damage... AND you can “reenvision” things.
Tumblr media
When you reenvision, you can change things into something else. In this video, I changed the funny slime lad into a plant monster and back!
The biggest challenge of this game’s battle system is meant to be managing your desperation. The higher your desperation is, the more damage you do and the more special moves you can use (because those are also despair dependent), BUT the more damage you take. Which means you have to be on your A-game with your dodging skills.
Tumblr media
Oh yeah... I should probably mention that you only have 100 max HP throughout the entire game, and enemies can hit hard. So be careful out there!

Questions
a one-shot that I may write more about, idk
based on this (Old)drawing
Tumblr media
A piercing scream echoed through the forest, whilst a beam of blinding light traveled miles away.
Residue of that light scatter, traveling far and wide to who knows where. many fell far and close, and some came close together, and specifically speaking these VERY close shards of light that fell closely on their landing space.
And the moment those shards hit the ground as their form expanded and took a bigger shape, soon giving conscience. Both beings noticed the other's presence, observing each other, realizing that both made a deal with the same person.
A Man who looks like his late 20's; has an unusual circular face shape, reddish-brown hair with a short pigtail, a dirty white polo shirt and pants, abnormal circular pink rosey cheeks, and violet eyes.
And a woman who seems to look from 19 to early 20's; a slight baby face, chocolate brown hair with white steaks, two pony-tails with hot pink tints on the end tied by ribbons, Pink tattoos that appeared from his face then past down her neck, She wore a dirty shirt with a light pink coat, and ringed eyes.
The man slowly got up as the woman watched him with wary eyes. The tattoo marks of the woman lit up when what looked like target symbols showed itself over the man's violet eyes and the back of hand. He examined her for a moment, making her feel off.
He then dusted his pants and offered his hand out "Howdy there young lady, you've must've met a terrible fate" he stated, as it was a fact. It ticked her off.
She declined his offer and got up herself "So? You don't look so good yourself" she retorted, finally taking in his appearance as she looks at him up and down, noting every detail of his clothes to judge what kind of person he is.
He looked pale, with abnormal circular bright pink cheeks and Violet eyes and Hazel Hair. He wore a white dirty shirt, and Dark pants with a gash that could’ve been from a lethal attack
He gave an eerie smile "True, but those scars say otherwise" he replied with a gentle yet off setting vibe. The woman looked confused. Scars? she had no scars.
They had a bit of a stare down but the man looked away dismissing the glowing lights, he examined the area with a smile "We're no longer in the Safe space, Something must've happened" The man explained, he seemed troubled yet he still has that smile on his face.
The woman stared at him with unease, but once his words sank in her head she too, started to examine her surroundings.
The night sky, the realistic green trees, the moist grass, the cool breeze and the sounds of crickets. She couldn't believe it, where was she? How did she get back?
"What do you think happened? I thought the deal was a one-time thing" the woman was skeptical, as she put more thought into it.
She looked up to see trails of light fly past them, the man looked up to where she was staring.
"So that's what happened..." the man muttered, His violet Eyes shined against the light from the sky. light of the souls traveling to their death marks, they flew in various lights, colors and sizes, which depended on their very being.
“Ha! Someone actually fought back, and won''The man grinned, shoving his hands in his pockets. keeping his eyes on the sky, watching the beauty of the traveling souls.“I wonder how and who managed to do it…''He muttered under his breath, catching the woman’s attention.
“...What? what are you on about?”The woman accused, getting wary of the strange man.
The man looks back at her with the same eerie look in his eyes, She keeps herself composed as she gives him a straight face “Tell me, Who are you and what’s going on?”
“Azriel, but they call me Li…That’s what I’m mostly called”Li introduces himself with a small bow, but She couldn’t shake off the way he said it and the fact that it sounds… fake. “And may I know yours, Miss…?” He inquires, Curious of the woman in tattoos.
“Mei-” If he’s going to play this game, so will she “-Just call me Mei”
“Hmm…What an elegant name for a gorgeous Lady~" Li Compliments her, the name seems to fit her, he thought. He walks to her, not minding the fact she took a several steps back until her was finally in front of her.
Li Reached out his hand for her to shake.”It’s nice to meet you Mei, I’m sure you have an interesting story, no?”
Mei keeps her eyes at him, still wary of the strange man. “I can say the same for you” She returns, watching his words. She didn’t take his hand though, and He saw that, retracting it back.
But he didn’t mind, he was a stranger to her and other debtors were usually distrusting “well, now that we’re done with introductions…I believe we should get going!” Li chirps, turning around and walking to a random direction, Expecting her to follow him.
“What? Hey, you didn’t answer my other question!” Mei calls out,
balling her fists. Catching up right behind him, She needed answers and he looks like he has an idea why this is happening.
Li doesn’t look back to see her face, he simply keeps walking until he sees a way out of this Forest ”We can talk when we’re in a more private setting, instead of staying like sitting ducks!” Li chuckles, Mei didn’t say anything about his response but narrows her eyes.
What is he on about? it was a secluded place!...unless. She shook her head, she kept following him as he led them out of the forest.
“Finally! Now if Remember, there should be a motel here” Li thinks back to where it might be, he looks down the road and turns to the opposite direction.
Mei was skeptical and was judging how confident he was in directions, but she kept silent. She didn’t know why she’s so eager to hear his thoughts to blindly follow him, perhaps it’s because of a lack of communication for 38 years that she’s desperate for a companion to actually talk to.
As They walk together Mei decides to walk side-by-side, Facing her front but sometimes glancing at the stranger beside her. She didn’t know what to make of Li other than that they’re both in a similar position, Perhaps since she can ask more questions, since he didn’t seem too opposed to answering questions.
Soon enough, they see a run-down Motel sign, its lights dim and blinking every 9 seconds. The Motel itself doesn’t look any better either, it looked liked it was at least 7 decades old.
“Sheesh, I guess time hasn’t been kind to you” Li grimace, not liking the state of the building itself, but he walks to the old property anyways.
Mei took notice of his reaction, he knows this place and has some connection to it or probably a connection to the owner. That’s what she speculates at least.
“Let’s go”
The two walks past the parking lot, the trash, graffiti and the old molded paint wasn’t pleasing to look at.
Mei’s eyes wandered around the building, looking at the worn down doors and windows. She didn’t like the hygiene of this place at all.
Li knocked on the Staff room’s door, but there was no answer, so he knocked again.
“What are you doing?”Mei narrows her eyes at Li, why is he immediately going to staff?
“There’s a special room here and it’s not easily accessible to the public, since it’s specifically made for…” Li’s voice trailed, expecting Mei to finish that sentence.
“...is it made for us? the debtors?” Mei guesses, trying to get a good look at him. She feels like a little duckling, following him and filled with more questions in her head.
“Yes! exactly-” He turns his head to her with a smile, it was still a bit creepy but not as much anymore “-it disrupts the connection, so we’ll be safe here”
“Ah, I see” Mei sais with a small nod of understanding “so when will-”
The door opens abruptly, cutting Mei off as a girl in pajamas looks at them with a forced composed smile “Hello, How may I help you?”

Hey there! I made a game and just posted it on itch.io for free:
https://blueweirdness.itch.io/a-mind-iced-over
It’s a short fairy tale visual novel where you search an icy palace for clues to your memory.
It’s my first visual novel, so there’s really only one choice near the end, but I still hope you enjoy it.

I'm fairly new when it comes to city builders/village generator so when Ages of Cataria popped into my radar, I wasn't super interested.
I decided to take a better look at it, and i really like the premise. A village story generator with fantastical lands and creatures to discover. A very unique game, check out the trailer for more info.

The Spirit and the Mouse
Tumblr media
Started playing this yesterday, and so far I am really captivated by how charming it is.
It runs super smooth even on high settings, which with the age of my PC, is pretty damn good. It has smooth easy to use controls, and beautiful visuals and soundtrack.
The dialogue, while not voice acted, is very witty and fun to read. They do have a sound attached to each character similar to the noises in Banjo Kazooie which I found very helpful for picking accents when reading out dialogue during my stream.
I especially enjoy that (so far) there is no timer dependant tasks you have to do, which with someone who finds that feature in gameplay very anxiety inducing, is very thankful for. I really like being able to take my own pace at each task, and if I want to, go off and just explore and look for the collectable lightbulbs hidden around every map.
In all, a very charming game for those that enjoy puzzles and exploration. It's an indie title I have had my eyes on for a while and there is nothing that disappoints me in it yet.
I kinda feel that "Little Kitty, Big City" will have a similar vibe to this, and that's another game I'm very much looking forward to.
