Ohohohohoho!!!
I'm plotting a fic/daydream/au and I suddenly feel the need to get myself a corkboard and some red yarn to keep track of all the connections I'm making, which I'm not going to reveal to the characters until they've had a good many near-misses, and it gets ridiculous how close they are to finding out each others' secrets hehehehehe
>:3
Plus I'm having a grand old time pulling minor characters from canon to fill in the empty spaces in this au. I believe I have managed to scrounge up enough characters that I only have one OC, and she's not even necessary. She's just there to fill in space. >:3

Novel Length Ideas I'm Working On!
Tumblr media
So now that I know how to plan my stories, I'm planning them!
I bought some of those clear folders that you can just slip your papers through to organize everything and I have a folder for each.
I've had many, many, many stories over the years, but these are the ones I've decided to focus on.
Not Another Paranormal Romance
Loved the idea for this one and really want to continue with it. You can read the short story I wrote from this idea here, here and here!
Diary of an Ex-Witch
A recent idea (like a week old or so) Was definitely inspired by reading the Bible and understanding a few things about GOD a bit better.
Time Warp/ Rewind
Name is pending. This is an idea I had when I was 17 and I absolutely HAVE to write this! Especially since I've gotten so many new ideas for it! It will be about two 3rd formers (13 to 14-year-olds) who mysteriously travel back in time to the week before they were cruelly pranked by their peers.
K.I.D.S
This was a story idea from when I was 15, heavily inspired by my favourite series at the time, N.E.R.D.S by Michael Buckley (I still have and read all the books to this day!)
----------------
This story grew in originality as I got older and it went from being about exceptional kid spies (veeeerrrry similar to N.E.R.D.S) to regular kids unintentionally caught up in the secrets and drama of the hidden. I'm still working on organising my thoughts for this one, especially since I plan for it to be a trilogy.
I do plan to work on some short stories, both to share with you and to exercise my writing muscles. I may also share some snippets of writings based on these novel-length ideas. I find that writing shorts featuring your characters are a good way to get to know them.

As you can probably guess, I discuss Pantsing and Plotting and how I go about story planning. What about you? Do you consider yourself a Pantser or Plotter? Why or why not? I'd love to hear about your process!

what app do you use to story plot? i love the layout and i’ve been looking for a new one to use!
Currently, I'm using Plottr. I believe they have a 14-day trial on their website if you want to test it out.
I bought it initially because I liked that there was a mobile app as well, but the mobile app is pretty buggy, so I wouldn't personally recommend that. I think the devs are working on an update for the mobile app, so maybe that'll fix some of the issues.
Anyway, the desktop app itself is pretty handy. I like that there's a timeline view and a more detailed outline view (pictured below).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also like that there's a place for your characters and locations.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's pretty easy to use and there are lots of templates available if you need some help organizing your ideas. So far, I've only used it to organize my most recent short story, but we'll see how it handles my longer works.

Short Writing and the Average Word Count: A Mini-Guide
Alright, gather round kids, because it's time to talk about word count, and how to pace your chapters and content.
Word Count
Word count is basically how many words (usually a rough number) that you have in a single chapter, book, or general work. Often displayed to tell you how long it will take to read something, it can be helpful for reading, but not as much for writing.
For reference, 2,000 words is about ten to fifteen minutes of reading for me, tops.
The baseline for a chapter is typically from 2,000 to 2,500 words. I usually go to about 2,000-2,300 ish, more is a bit over the top.
Now, chapters will have varying lengths in your story. Don't hold yourself to the 2,000 word standard, it will mess up the pacing of your story if you do. Instead, split up your chapters according to the events within them.
For most chapters, I usually cram one to two scenes into each. One is usually the most I can fit, with dialogue, actions, and the thoughts of the characters. For my longer chapters, I can cram a long scene with various location changes.
For reference, a novella is about 30,000 to 40,000 words.
Novels can span from the 40,000-100,000 range, depending on who you ask.
And my books span from the 0-0 range, because I can't actually sit down and finish any of them.
2. Miniature Fiction Writing
If you're anything like me, you probably struggle with finishing a novel or related series. Do not fear, I have a solution, to give you both motivation and progress!
I like to call it: Mini fiction writing.
Not very original, but hear me out.
I typically get stuck while writing long and agonizing plots, so instead I tend to take a scene or scenario, and write it within 2,000-3,000 words. Like a fanfiction, essentially. The goal is to achieve it in that many words or less, and make it as straight to the point and in character as possible. It also gives you content, and gets your brain out of the same plotting circle you probably get stuck in.
It also helps with figuring out how different kinds of pacing look on paper, and saves you the time trying to characterize your children while writing the plot at the same time. A shortcut, if you will.
So, start writing your little side stories today! It helps a ton with getting your characters under control, and you can publish it 'til your heart's content!
Hope these tips helped!

How's my homework going, nerd?
Now also do some research on whatever historical fact or literary device you're procrastinating on!
And gimme your lunch money while you're at it! And write another scene!
😤
Hugs and kisses Punches and more punches,
Feline17ff
Ok, ok, I'll look up where they put luggage on carriages (random search number 139465 I've done in the name of writing)
Also, I don't have lunch money, but I did finish three chapters so far which is three more than last week! Now I just have only five to seven left to plot!

Post #10 - A Deer in the Snow
♫ - What I’m currently listening to.
✔ - Vote in the poll.
Frisk was pretty clueless in Lugubriosity. Some of that naivety came from being a child, and some from memory loss. Without her knowledge of the past RESETs, Frisk was literally thrown into a world of the unknown. What are your opinions on Frisk being left in the dark? I debated allowing her to remember—at the very least she should remember Sans, but then again, she has Chara, so is it really necessary?
So let's quickly discuss the above. The last scene will happen slowly. We'll get environmental shots, background monsters interacting with Papyrus, so we'll get some establishing scenes. I want the community's perception of Papyrus to be very clear (regardless of whether it's admiration or fear). Perhaps we'll see a glimpse of Alphys? Perhaps Undyne? Perhaps not. It won't be long before he's in Snowdin's forest.
And then he sees her.
We have done it! We have reached the end of stage one. Despite this being small, I feel like it's a great victory. I definitely didn't think I would keep my attention on this project for as long as I did. Let's cross our fingers and hope I can keep it up! I'm also curious to know your thoughts on the plans for chapter 1.
I will be taking a bit of a break from daily posting. I want to get a few chapters written and up for my Sonic fanfic. Considering all of my free time has gone to working on Fawn, I think stepping back and taking a small breather before diving in head first into stage two might be best!
And lastly, I want to give a big thank you to everyone following along and even adding their feedback! It's exciting to know people have opinions on the story and want to help shape it.

I don’t think yall understand how meaningful it is to have Oliver say “when you close your eyes it all feels the same” (kissing on screen). The fact that he doesn’t laugh it off, or say he had to push through it, or that it was a little weird like other actors have in the past is so incredibly important. This is him portraying a character and his sexuality, and it’s so validating to have the actor do his job the way Oliver has, in such a caring, positive way. It’s the feeling of finally belonging, of blending in when you’ve been marginalized and picked out all your life. Love is love, and a kiss is just a kiss.

i vote that next year instead of reading Dracula we do a Jeeves & Wooster Book Club. those two never got the rabid tumblr shipping fandom they deserved (disqualified for the sheer technicality of being published a century too soon). we must correct this injustice

The Barbie movie looks AMAZING and I'm down for whatever it is they are planning to release into the world. It's campy. It's kitsch. It's earnest. It's pink. IT'S PERFECT. And the only thing that would make it even more perfect would be a post-credits scene where it's revealed that the whole plot was play-acted by an 8-year old child playing with their dolls.

What if Joker Tried to Pull a Jigsaw?
Another idea for a piece of a story that has been bouncing around my brain for a bit...
Just your average “Danny joins the Batfamily but none of them know about secret identities” fanfic except the reveal happens with a lot of angst and it’s all because of the Joker.
What if Joker decides he’s going to implode the whatever relationship Batman has with Bruce Wayne by forcing either one of the Bats to kill off one of the Wayne kids or a Wayne kid to kill a Bat? He constructs a Jigsaw-level contraption and manages to capture one or two of the Bats and Danny. (How did Joker manage to capture Danny? Lucked out in that he used electricity to knock him out?) (Maybe the Joker wanted to try to capture more of either group or capture some other Wayne other than Danny, but he’s having to go with what he could get?)
So, he sets his victims in a contraption with a gun barrel pressed against each of them and a timer set to go off if no one pulls the trigger. The rest of the Batfamily aren’t going to get there in time. There are more explosives underneath their seats set to go off if anyone escapes their chair before someone is shot, so Danny can’t just phase his away out or let the bullet phase through him harmlessly.
The trapped Bat(s) only have the capacity to shoot Danny while Danny could shoot either himself or a Bat (because the Joker knows a Bat would 100% take the self-sacrifice route, but assumed A Wayne wouldn’t [or some other contrivance]). After explaining the rules of the game, Joker runs off because he is expecting someone to die, and he knows how Batman gets when the Joker kills someone close to the man.) If there are two Bats, they could have a disagreement of who dies. Danny knows he can heal from a normally fatal gunshot wound even in human form (maybe because of past stuff with his parents or the GIW, maybe not). So much to the anguish of the Bat(s) present, he pulls the trigger.
Danny wakes up with many of the Bats anguishing over his apparent death. Seeing Danny come alive again would be a confusing emotional rollercoaster for the Bats. (For even more angst, maybe Danny is freaking out because he believes the Bats will hand him over to the GIW because they uphold the law, right?)
