“No boots on the bed, Carol. Were you raised by wolves?”
“Yes,” Carol said, dryly, “the well-known wolves of the greater Boston metropolitan area.”

Tony Stark resigned his commission in Starfleet five years ago, after a disastrous away mission, and he swore he’d never go back. He just wants to be left alone to build warp engines in peace. But the universe has more in store for him than that, as he discovers when Admiral Fury comes to him with an offer he could never have expected and cannot possibly refuse: first officer and chief engineer aboard the all-new USS Avenger, a starship of Tony’s own design. What’s more, the Avenger’s captain is Steve Rogers, hero of the Earth-Romulan War. Believed dead for over a century, Steve is miraculously alive… and very, very attractive.
But nothing is ever easy for Tony. As he wrestles with his secret desire for his new captain and his not-so-dormant fears, another mission starts to go wrong, and Tony becomes aware that Steve has secrets of his own -- and the truth could change everything.

First off, my apologies that this review came out so late! Been sick this week, and been busy, so I didn't get much time to really listen to this album. So I took another day to give it a good listen.
As I said above, Blues Traveler's a band that I associate really strongly with my dad. My CD collection, from which I'm randomly selecting these albums from, is comprised of my dad, mom, and my CDs. All of the Blues Traveler CDs, of which there are like 5 of, are my dads. He really loves this band. So much so, that when I was re-organizing the CDs before making the spreadsheet, I found multiple copies of certain BT albums. I have a lot of nostalgia for this band, but only really listen to them when my dad does, save for a few songs.
I think that nostalgic influence is pretty much the biggest factor in my enjoyment of this band. Which is why I don't think I liked this album as much as I thought I would, since I didn't listen to this one much growing up. My dad would mostly play their most successful album, Four, so I've become most acclimated to that one. I think I like BT in smaller doses, honestly. Sometimes their sound gets a little stale for me, and some songs just feel very of their time. Which, is a good and a bad thing. Honestly, I really like "Canadian Rose" because it is such a 90s goofy love song to me.
That being said, there were still things about this album I really liked. The song "Yours" is a really beautiful love ballad. I think a lot of people associate BT with their screaming harmonica solos, of which there are plenty on this album, but they do slow songs very beautifully as well. Speaking of screaming harmonica solos, I still will never stop being impressed about how good John Popper is at playing the harmonica. I have tried to play a harmonica like him, and it is damn near impossible. He's a true fucking virtuoso on that instrument, and I can't discredit that at all.
Another thing I love about this album is the design of the CD case. This is probably the most gorgeous CD I have in my collection. I've included some pictures below:
It has such a pretty dark blue glitter plastic and constellation map background for the CD tray! Its such an aesthetically pleasing CD case.

A Year in (Book) Review: My 2024 Reading Journey 📚
#7 - Straight on Till Morning by Liz Braswell
Fantasy / Twisted Tales #8 / 363 pages / published 2019 / Finished Jan. 14
One Sentence Review: A surprising contender for one of my favorite books in the series, Straight on Till Morning takes the focus off of Pan - and the patriarchy - and puts it on Wendy and Tinkerbell, and it reminds us that Neverland will always have monsters as long as the real world stays broken.
Quotes of Note
"She didn't need to see her scars to know that they were real."
*
"There was no room for weakness or second thoughts in a hero, and if nothing else, Wendy had to be the hero of her own soul."
*
"She felt a little stirring of self-recrimination: Why hadn't she even thought things like this before? Why hadn’t she even noticed the invisible prison she was in? 'Because,' she told herself gently, 'I've never been able to fly before.'"
*
"Are things broken here? Save this world. Then go back to your own broken world and fix it. Perhaps we shall be mended as well."
*
"'Do as thou wilt,' Slightly quoted back at her. 'We wiln't.'"
My rating: 5/5
Additional thoughts after the break (spoilers)!
My thoughts on the book: It was so much better than I thought it would be! Though I nearly rated it 4/5 because of how much i hated the witch, the rest of the book was so solid that I had to keep it at 5.
What I found the most interesting, intriguing, challenging, and/or surprising: I was surprised that Peter Pan himself was only in the last quarter of the book, and amazed at how okay I was with that. I also delighted in the depth of the narrative, and the idea that in order Neverland to be better, we must work to make our own world better. I was also far more invested than expected in Wendy and Tink's friendship.
What I took away from this book: Neverland may be a place where dreams come true - but not all dreams are good dreams, which is why until cruelty and hunger and hate and abuse are no longer a problem in the real world, there will always be monsters in Neverland. (Also, Hook doesn't hate Pan or fear the crocodile, but rather is chasing his youth and is running away from the passage of time as well.)

My new book arrivals!
Also, I officially own a library's worth of books 😳 (I have 1,103 books currently). Granted, most of them are Manga, but still.

“Sounds fun. I’ll try anything once.”
That was another item on the list of things that hadn’t been meant to sound like innuendo but somehow did when he said them to Steve.

My current reads.
In all honesty, I want to finish “Hollow City” first.
But we’ll see how this goes…
