Anon is a queer person whose straight friend makes these jokes, and anon is just curious about the reasons straight (or perceived straight) people make these jokes.

Rupauls drag race is straight peoples drag
Let me explain
While Rpdr has played a big part in the normalization of drag and queer art it’s still held to the standard of gender norma and sex conformity. In Rpdr it’s common to see queens be chastised for not having enough padding, not looking enough like a girl. Rpdr has created this idea that instead of an art form that includes all genders and all gender presentation it’s just male to female,e makeup. Queens have been in the bottom for just not looking “female enough”. We also see this in other unspoken rules of drag race like always wearing heels and padding. While Rpdr is very important for drag as is (almost) all mainstream queer media it’s filtered through the norms required to keep it comfortable for straight people so they don’t have to do actual contemplation on how they view the world as a whole.  (and there’s a whole conversation about how this also ties into transphobia but I really need to go to bed)

Talked to a cishet man about What We Do In The Shadows the other day and felt genuinely insane.
I told him Nandor and Guillermo better kiss in the last season and he went “What??? That’s a ship??? There’s no way that’s a ship lol”
My man, were we watching the same show???

it’s so weird when homophobic people, specifically my parents, act like gays are out to turn others gay. Like we’re doing an army recruitment or some shit. What do they even think happens? “Hey kid you wanna suck a dick?” “Sure!” “WE GOT ANOTHER ONE FAGS” “Hey kid you wanna eat some pussy?” “Absolutely!” “WE GOT ANOTHER ONE DYKES”

You know what's really funny to me as someone who is Bi. When straight people are telling you about their dating life. "Oh, I went out with this guy and [insert the rest of the story here]"
And then when it's your turn to share, you just slide in those gender neutral terms, "I went out with this person and they were [insert the rest of the story]"
And they don't even bat an eye and ask you questions about that "straight" date you had. "I can't believe he did that."
And I just giggle at that. Because at NO point in my story did I ever state "he" or "she" but that gets filled out in their head like a Madlibs.

I don't know what you straight women are on but your man not having a single close female friend is a not a good thing or something to brag about.

Fascinating situation at work today. Not sure if this is a straight normative thing to do or a neurotypical thing or a combination of the two but anyway I didn't really anticipate or understand it at all.
We had to do, for fun, a personality test at work to categorise ourselves. (Naturally they Harry Potter themed it bc why not use a cultural touchstone 15 years out of date & now divisive)
So naturally I answered the questions honestly and got the result I expected. (🐍)
Only to then find out that everyone else in my team had done one or more of:
1) tried to cheat the quiz to rig it for a particular result
2) aimed for the answer they assumed the boss wanted to hear
3) answered all the questions in a way so as to appear non threatening, submissive etc. - let me reiterate this was a bit of fun and the results weren't saved anywhere
(Or maybe for some of them this was the natural state)
I've never before seen such a blatant example of adults (aged 30s-60s) literally manifesting peer pressure on themselves and each other over something so ridiculously trivial.
Suddenly it makes sense why we never seem to get anything done or make strides to progress through things if everyone is always second-guessing and trying to give the 'right' answer rather than following logical process.

queer baiting
had a feeling i would be making a post about this at some point.
what is it?
According to Wikipedia, Queerbaiting is a marketing technique for fiction and entertainment in which creators hint at, but then do not actually depict, same-sex romance or other LGBT representation.
what is it not?
Celebrities hinting at their own sexualities. It’s not from real people but rather a tactic where media producers imply queer stories and media texts that are never actualized (Rolling Stones).
Why is this an important distinction? Because it is damaging to the bisexual, pansexual, and genderfluid community. The term has started to be associated with celebrities who talk about not identifying as straight but never having been in a relationship with someone of the same gender. Or celebrities who present as queer but never label themselves. Or literally anyone who has a “queer” fashion style. People are trying to cancel celebrities instead of cancelling shows/companies for misrepresentation.
Tumblr media
Queer people should not be the only ones talking about queer baiting but straight people need to educate themselves first.
