THE SUBJECT OF STRAYS

  Stray dogs are dogs that don’t have an owner and live in cities. A stray can be a dog that was abandon by its’ owner, lost (as for they escaped from where they lived and have never been found) and dogs that never had an owner.

Every city is sponsored by the government in order to keep decent shelters for dogs, to pay for the vets that take care of those animals and to pay for the lawyer responsible for the legal and ethical action that takes place at those shelters. If a shelter does not follow the above requirements it is considered as strays being abused.

The people who work at such shelters are mostly volunteers. The requirements that are needed in order to volunteer at a stray shelter are love for the animals and responsibility. Something that not everyone has. As a volunteer your responsibility is to feed the animals, to clean them and to walk them. After all, let’s not forget that a dog depends on humans for its needs.

Animal homelessness is a really important issue that all of us need to pay attention to since hundreds of dogs are being born and dying on the streets. Breeders and pet trade are mainly responsible for this issue. Breeders bring animals into this world and take them away from their mothers when they are only a few weeks or even days old, leading to them having serious mental issues. In 2020 a bill was introduced banning breeders for taking away the animals when they are less than 6 months old. This law has as a purpose to put breeders out of business.

Another reason why animal homelessness is increasing is because people preserve animals as a gift. Gifting animals can lead to them ending up on the streets since not everyone is ready to take care of them and involve themselves in such a lifelong commitment.

How you can stop this from happening? You can adopt! Avoid buying them from breeders and pet stores. Animals should not be purchased! They are not an item to buy! Adopt! Make a stray feel loved. They deserve to be loved. Talk others into adopting too but please…before you decide to adopt make sure you are ready and capable to take on the lifelong commitment.

At our gorgeous campsite at Desert Point, we discovered a little puppy on the first day. Seemingly just four or five months old, the dog was completely emaciated. Her ribs were pushing through her fur, her tail was curled and she was quite shy. A mother and other puppies were not to be seen far and wide. We took care of her every day and gave her food. With time she became more and more trustful and let us cuddle her. Without us she would never have survived. She could not beg from other campers and there was no food far and wide. So we decided after long consideration to take the little one with us. She is now our new family member and will discover the world with us!

An unserem traumhaften Stellplatz am Desert Point entdeckten wir am ersten Tag einen kleinen Welpen. Scheinbar gerade einmal vier oder fünf Monate alt, war die Hündin vollkommen abgemagert. Die Rippen drückten sich durch das Fell, die Rute war eingezogen und sie war ganz scheu. Eine Mutter und andere Welpen waren weit und breit nicht zu sehen. Wir kümmerten uns jeden Tag um sie und gaben ihr Essen. Mit der Zeit wurde sie immer zutraulicher und ließ sich auch irgendwann kraulen. Ohne uns hätte sie niemals überlebt. Sie konnte nicht bei anderen Campern betteln und es gab weit und breit kein Futter. So entschieden wir uns nach langer Überlegung die Kleine bei uns aufzunehmen. Sie ist jetzt unser neues Familienmitglied und wird mit uns die Welt entdecken!

The city vet of the pound in Tanauan, Batangas sought the help of SWS to attempt to save the dogs surrendered or reported to them for catching. A total of 40 dogs are scheduled to be euthanized tomorrow, before the Holy Week.

SWS has been announcing that the shelter is full and we cannot accommodate new rescues, much more 40 rescues from the pound. This is why we are begging those who have room in their homes for an additional blessing to adopt even one of these rescues!
