Today (1st March) Liam Payne is embarking on an exciting new chapter, announcing his return with the release of his highly-anticipated single ‘Teardrops’ via Capitol Records.
The instantly anthemic ‘Teardrops’, referencing the rhythmic pop of the late 90s and early 00s, is about the first heartbreak within a relationship. Written with Jamie Scott and JC Chasez (NSYNC), Liam says of the single: “Teardrops is about the vulnerability of heartbreak and the challenge of overcoming those moments. This song marks the start of a new beginning, there’s lots more to come in 2024.”
Spending the past year in the studio, Liam has been working closely with long-time collaborator Jamie Scott, describing it as a “year long process of self-reflection”. With more music and more announcements to come, 2024 is set to be a big year for Liam Payne.
Multi-platinum-selling Liam has sold more than 23 million singles and over three million albums as a solo artist since One Direction. He released his debut solo album, ‘LP1’, in December 2019 on Capitol Records which included the smash hit singles ‘Strip That Down’, ‘Polaroid’ and ‘Familiar’. Releasing his last single ‘Sunshine’ in 2021, his music has been streamed over 5 billion times.

A reminder of LP1's critical reception.
LP1 received negative reviews. According to Metacritic, which assigns a normalised rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album has an average score of 44 out of 100, which indicates "mixed or average reviews" based on seven reviews.[29] It was the worst reviewed album with seven reviews or more of 2019 on the site.[34]
Helen Brown of The Independent wrote "he's got a nice set of pipes. He gets the songs across. But without imposing any personality on them he's just, well, a singing six-pack" and that "it's all fine: shiny and efficient pop, smelling of body oil and new car upholstery. But Payne treats each track like a rental car. He gives each song a spin and hands the keys back like a good lad without leaving a trace," ending the review by stating "he's gone from One Direction to One Dimensional".[32]
Mark Kennedy, writing for ABC News, called the album "embarrassing" while writing that the album "never really gets off the ground, a collection of monotonous club songs that often sound like warmed-over Justin Bieber rejects."
He further criticised Payne's decision to add "offerings [that] are more than two years old" and the fact that Payne only co-wrote four songs, although he did compliment "Stack It Up".[35]
Laura Snapes of The Guardian opined that it is a "terrible pop album, but very effective contraception".[1] Michael Cragg, also of The Guardian, called the album "genre-ticking anonymity" and "occasionally painful yet weirdly Payne-less."[36]
El Hunt of NME felt Payne was "so focused on ticking boxes that he forgets to have fun" and that it "shows a more grown-up side to the former One Direction member, and cherry-picks from pretty much every genre that's in vogue right now. The problem is that it doesn't tell us much about Liam Payne" while particularly talking down on "Both Ways".
Rawiya Kameir of Pitchfork was critical, calling Payne "another pop star flailing to find his identity amid trend-hopping production and half-baked lyrics" and that "listening to LP1, you almost feel sorry for Payne. It's maybe more pathetic to have failed not for risking too much, but after seeming to have tried so little."[33]
Neil Z. Yeung of AllMusic wrote that Payne "tackles hip-hop and electronic genres but struggles to distinguish himself from the crop of similar-sounding contemporaries" and that a majority of the songs "sound more like a streaming playlist set to shuffle" while adding that the album is "front-loaded with mostly forgettable trifles."
A.D. Amorosi, writing for Variety, opined that "the writing and singing aren't strong enough and come across as C-level Timberlake material" while ending the review by saying "during 'Home with You', one of Payne's better singles not included on this album, the singer claims: 'Too many cooks in the kitchen / Too many fools here listening / Why don't we find somewhere quiet, quiet.' Liam Payne should have taken his own advice."[37]
Lauren Murphy of entertainment.ie called the songs "indistinguishable" and the album "a wasted opportunity" and "dull", noting that the album "sounds like a collection of songs – not a cohesive album".[38]
Thomas Green, writing for the i, stated that "One Direction's devoted fans will love this, but nobody else will" while commenting that the album "should make lots of money. Not much else about it seems to matter to Payne."

Louis fans mass buy and mass stream that's why his numbers were better it's not because he's more popular. Niall's numbers are organic that's why they're low because the GP is not that interested. his fans don't care about streaming that much, even tho he really, really does. it's kind of itonic how Louis seems to not care about numbers but his fans work like machines to grant him success whilst Niall vocally cares but his fans don't give a fuck lmao. ////
Anon, you have to be honest here. Do you really think Niall's sales and numbers are organic?? That his fans don't care about his streams? Yes, Louies go hard for Louis with the streams and mass buy his albums to give him a better chart position. But have you actually seen Niall's UAs these last few days since he released the album??? They are having multiple daily streaming parties, buying parties, gifting, fundings, yelling at each other to stream his album and bribing each other with prizes etc. And unlike Harry's UAs who doesn't work together as a unit for Harry since they have all developed this ego that one is better than the other, Niall's UAs like Louis' team up and work together planning all the parties. For both Louis and Niall the GP is not interested. It shows in the numbers they are pulling. It is a given. Both are boring and annoying. Nothing about Niall Horan is organic anon. He is the bona fide male version of Taylor greedy Swift. Niall has done everything Taylor did except release a 3am Midnights version. Add to that I saw that his album is discounted in the US and UK and on his store. Bonus: don't forget all the signed CDs and vinyls he keep adding. So all the "sales" he gets is from these cheating tricks he pulled. The Billboard article itself proves my point. That many variants for a single album? Nah! The HDD prediction also shows that 90% of his sales came from those cheating tricks. Nothing about his numbers are organic. Without those tricks he'll be pulling 10k sales like Liam Payne did with LP1.
PS- Louis cares about his numbers too anon. Otherwise his pathetic ass wouldn't have bragged about the UK #1 he cheated to get.
I hate when Harries give Niall a pass. He is no better than the L twins. You should all clump him in the same basket. Not give him any flowers for cheating to stay relevant and have success. Thank you! 🤐
Still think Niall might have a deluxe version up his sleeve for when sales start flagging in the second week.

feel free to ignore or delete- but what keeps you interested in liam/his career? i used to be a big fan but dipped because I didn’t like his music at all and felt he could do wayyy better not only lyrical wise but in general with how things turned out. i feel like his lack of genre direction and whatever background interferences really screwed him over. he put out collabs that weren’t interesting or that good. he would hype up a song, put it out then weeks later put out the MV when ppl were slowly losing interest and still expected his fans to do the heavy lifting with streaming/requesting because his interviews sucked and never focused on the right thing. i know his team is ultimately to blame but it was really frustrating because in a way he just seemed over the whole thing and who could blame him? I always wanted him to take a long break (from social media too) and use that time to find his sound, or an idea on what kind of music he wanted to put out and really put effort into it..but alas that never happened. do you think whenever he puts out new music it’ll be better this time or will it be alll the same?
I thought about not answering your ask, but I decided to go for it and developed a few points you made that aren't 100% correct.
It's normal people lose interest in an artist especially if said artist doesn't do songs that make them feel connected or not in the genre they like. That's completely valid! I go through that a lot and I'd be a hypocrite if I said I didn't understand it because I feel disconnected from everything Harry does so I don't engage with it.
But also I have to kindly and respectfully disagree with a few things you said in your ask and maybe correct the information because it's not right.
Even though a few of his collabs weren't interesting others really helped boost him solo career and even know are hits (For You and Polaroid, for example). These collaborations especially were hits because the promo rounds were heavy and there were a lot of performances in multiple media outlets (shows, radios, awards shows, etc.)
Liam or dare I say his team basically always released the music videos of the songs one week or two weeks after releasing the song. And now that isn't even the case since they always release the video at the same time as the song or on that same day (his latest singles and even during the LP1 promo with Stack It Up and Live Forever). I think in 2017/2018 was the year a lot of artists still waited a few weeks to put the music videos out due to being a strategy to get more people hyped for the songs and it was connected to promo phases. All the boys did this at that time! In the last two years, I believe artists and labels understood that the moment passes so it's better to release everything on the same day for major attention!
Liam's interviews haven't sucked a lot... in the last year, I'll tell you that the most part of them sucked because it's always the same themes and the same things being said over and over again. But Liam has had so many interesting interviews in the past... him being silly and having fun, talking about important issues (like mental health and the bad sides of the industry!!!!) and music. The problem is that those interviews aren't getting the attention they deserve! The attention falls on interviews about 1D or even his personal life and that's what the tabloids spread. His interviews with Capital aren't groundbreaking but that's what his team does in the last few years!
Now this isn't me defending everything he has ever done because a lot of things weren't good. But what motivates me still is the fact that this is one of the most talented artists in the world! It's being wasted by him and everyone around him, but that doesn't change the fact that he is a brilliant performer with the voice of an angel.
He has the potential for a lot of achievements. He just needs to focus on the genre he likes and on the message he wants to send. He has to do his work and present it ! Fuck everybody around him. He needs a new direction! The right one.
So my answer to your last question is no, I don't think things will be different soon or when he releases something next. Not if he stays with this team!

I have you been following the solo careers of all the 1D guys? I was just talking to a friend about my observations and it dawned on me how radically different they have all been.
Zayn I had a strong first album, his streaming numbers were excellent, and had a massive movie theme song hit with Taylor. Since then he just quietly released his songs that still do very well on streaming platforms.
Liam literally get it out of the park with his first song STD. Since then he’s crashed and burned and it’s been very difficult to watch.
Niall started out so strong! His second album launched right as Covid started, and he had very little luck selling his second tour and ended up canceling it. His team regrouped got him a judge position on a US music show all inserting him into the festival lineup. This has given him great exposure and now his tour and album are both selling well.
Harry bought his success with power, influence and $. Then Louis. He’s tragedies along with mental hang ups paired with management teams and labels that didn’t prioritize him caused many waisted years that prevented him from capitalizing on the 1D fans the others benefited from. It’s fascinating to see how the industry ppl you surround yourself with actually have a massive impact.
I was a massive 1D fan when they were together then they went solo and I like dropped out of the fandom for a couple of years I still listened to their singles they released but was only ever truly properly interested to see what Louis was doing.
But I did follow their careers as solo artists for a while.
Liam I followed until he released LP1 which I didn’t even properly like him before that but I definitely didn’t like him after that and he then solidified it for me with that weird interview he did last year. I agree his career took off really well to begin with but it was one thing after another and his terrible debut album that really sucker punched his career I think.
Niall I followed for a while, never had anything against him I just find him a little erm plain I suppose, he’s a wannabe in my eyes and while he’s very talented he just doesn’t do it for me, I really enjoyed heartbreak weather though and he definitely deserves better with that album.
I still listen to Zayn but don’t follow his career as such if that makes sense. I think with Zayn I really appreciate his talent and he deffo deserves to get more recognition I don’t think he really wants it? I think he likes how things are and that’s good for him people need to stop pushing this whole ‘if he toured or did promo like Harry he’s be bigger than him’ cause he clearly doesn’t want that.
I stopped following Harry not long after I saw him in concert June 2022, I agree much of his career is based on money and power and knowing the right people, connections are so much more important than people realise in that industry.
And Louis I obviously still follow him and his career he was always my favourite and always will be, seeing how far he’s come despite the challenges he’s faced with his career is impressive and has inspired me to be more resilient. Not only that but he is sooo talented.
I used to be ot5 because when I came back into the fandom in 2017/18 I thought that was the only option you either follow them all or you’re not a real fan? The logic is sooo dumb.
But yes I agree with you the shape and direction all of their careers as solo artists have taken has been interesting to watch and quite mind boggling in many ways. I’ll be interested to see what happens in the future.

Recommended Album: ISOLA - ‘LP1′
Tumblr media
Ivana Carrescia is evidence of a multi-verse’s existence, as the songwriter has transcended dimensions within our timeline in various shapes and formations over the years. It’s often reflective in a geographical sense just as well with wherever the universe finds her at any given moment, be it the vocalist for cryptic Brooklyn post-punks Eddi Front, collaborating with former Godmode Music producer Nick Sylvester (Channel Tres, Yaeji) as the industrial electronic haunt Gioia, or tapping into her own spiritual realm under her own given name. When Carrescia and Sylvester reconvened their collaborative efforts as she journeyed to the foreground of the Vegas desert, ISOLA -- a fusion of ambient electronic music and minimalist dance --was born from its mystical air. What makes the project in its current status all the more beguiling, however, is that Carrescia is now based in the West Virginia farmlands -- arguably, not a space one would parallel to the physical unknown -- and yet, it’s the emotions behind LP1 -- the project’s debut full-length and first for Sylvester’s new imprint, Smartdumb -- that discovery entry into another world. One that looks much like the one you and I exist in for that matter, as ISOLA sees dreams as tangible experiences in our real world. Carrescia, with the aid Sylvester’s perfectionist instincts in reorganizing the chemistry behind techno music and inventing niche in the form of “microhouse”, are the canvas which the exploration of falling into, through, and becoming the feeling we know as love is a tempered euphoria. The arid magic of EP1 soundscape continues to breeze through in circular motion throughout the listen, yet it’s the realized imagination of living fully present in it all that in turn makes LP1 vividly pop with oxytocin. Sleek and focused in its design even when neuroplasticity can find itself in fluctuation, ISOLA will have you pondering portals by way of syncing our affective science with the electronic pulse.

TARJA TURUNEN Shares Previously Unreleased Song 'Eye Of The Storm' From Upcoming 'Best Of: Living The Dream' Collection
Former NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunenwill release her first-ever "best-of" collection, "Best Of: Living The Dream", on December 2 via earMUSIC.
A track from the collection, Tarja's previously unreleased song "Eye Of The Storm", has been made available and can be streamed below.
"It was the right time to finally release this song," Tarja explains. "It has a very deep feeling of closure in it. It's been influenced by two very important countries in my life: Finland and Argentina. It's an internal battle inside of me. Because at that time in life, I was really searching for my place in this world, where I belong as a person, as an individual."
Looking back on 15 extremely successful years of the Finnish singer's solo career, the "Best Of" contains not only Tarja's most well-known tracks, many of them newly remastered at Sterling Sound, and personal favorites from all six studio albums — "My Winter Storm", "What Lies Beneath", "Colours In The Dark", "The Brightest Void", "The Shadow Self" and "In The Raw" — but also the aforementioned "Eye Of The Storm".
"After all these years, I still really can't believe it's time for me to release a proper 'Best Of' album," Tarja says. "So many beautiful moments, unbelievable. It has been a dream to put together this collection. And I really hope that you will enjoy this as much as I did while making it."
The compilation was hand-picked by Tarja herself and will be released in a wide variety of formats, each featuring exclusive rarities and/or the previously unreleased two-hour "Circus Life" concert, which is eagerly awaited by fans, as well as upgraded versions of Tarja's music videos. Rounded out by high-quality artwork, deluxe liner notes, and many formats to choose from, this collection is a delight for casual fans, as well as superfans.
The standard version of the CD and vinyl contains 16 tracks (including the brand new single) as well as deluxe liner notes. The strictly limited mediabook holds 13 further tracks and the previously unreleased, two-hour live show "Circus Life". The strictly limited box set contains an additional 19 tracks selection of Tarja's projects including OUTLANDERS, four picture discs, six art prints, two posters, and a fine art print signed by Tarja.
