"i liked [cartoon made for television] but the first season felt really slow tbh" valid opinion, but that's not the fault of the writers.
back in the early 2010s, the western animation industry was just starting to delve into more plot-heavy cartoons, and it's pretty hard to do when whatever company you have to be the "new format" for wants more episodic content. so, the best you can do is add hints to something bigger and hope that people stay invested once those hints come into play.
luckily, this format of "lighthearted and episodic to begin with, but it gets darker as the show continues" worked well with audiences, and obviously became more popular. adventure time, gravity falls, steven universe, amphibia, and the owl house are all fairly popular cartoons and all utilize this format well.
but here's the main issue- these are all cartoons that were made for a television format, with one or two episodes a week. so while i, someone who grew up watching these shows, would wake up every saturday to catch the latest episodes, people today just need to have whatever streaming service theyre on to watch the full show in one sitting.
tl/dr, the first season of some shows arent actually "slow," it's just meant to be watched one or two episodes a week rather than watched all at once.

As part of the ratified WGA contract, the people will have access to the numbers that make up the viewership of shows and films in a transparent manner. This is going to be a massive boon for writers and actors wondering about residuals, and will also likely cause mayhem with fandoms and creators when exhibit proof is present of how popular or unpopular their shows and films are.

Fun times are about to be had by all.

Anyone else feeling burnt out by streaming services because any time you start a show the company expects an immediate audience and a fucking worldwide campaign of support or they’ll cancel it.

Hollywood executives will nuke entire shows from existence, then wonder why the people they treated like shit are no longer willing to work for them.
Oh, and they already owned the rights to these shows and movies. It was costing WB and Disney nothing to keep shows like Final Space and Willow on HBO MAX and Disney Plus.

Large Studios: We're removing all these popular movies and tv shows from our streaming services because it's costing us too much money paying their writers. They will never be seen again.
Also Large Studios: STOP PIRATING OUR PROPERTIES!! YOU'RE COSTING US A FORTUNE!!

I think now is a good time to remind people of The Internet Archive which has a metric shit ton of shows and movies for free and won't give your computer any viruses cause it's not a pirate website.
Or Tubi, which has a metric shit ton of stuff free with ads, and you don't even have to make an account or download the app. Same with Pluto, although Pluto is pretty slow.
Even YouTube has a lot of free stuff, and I don't just mean the official YouTube movie channel. I mean, there's a bunch of channels that upload movies you can watch without having to click a link to some shady website. YouTube also has a lot of audio book uploads too.
So don't worry about not getting brand new shows because there's so much media out there's that you haven't even consumed yet.

Streamers straight up lying to SAG AFTRA during negotiations that the 3 seasons of 10 episodes standard they've made is what WE, THE AUDIENCE, WANT. Not the truth: that profit sharing with producers and creators starts at season 4. That 10 episodes allows for more money per episode for visual effects and extravagant sets.
We're being encouraged as the audience to shout back at the streamers on social media that we want longer seasons and more of them. That 3 seasons of 10 episodes is not enough and the constant cancellation is WHY we cancel subscriptions.
So go shout at the streamers on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, threads, whatever.

I don't pirate stuff, but this sort of practice undermines ethical arguments against it.

What I don't get about the password-sharing fiasco is....if it was the olden days and you rented a couple DVD/VHS movies, until you brought them back to the shop you could do whatever with them.
You could give them to other people to watch. You could show a movie to a group of ten friends. You had already paid for the tapes, so who was going to care what you did with them in that time?
Similarly, if you have already paid for a Netflix/Max/Dianey+/Paramount+/whatever subscription, you're getting charged monthly for that. The companies have already decided how much it is worth to rent their entire catalogue to you for a month.
So during your "rental period" for these movies and shows, who are they to say what you do with them? If you have someone over for Netflix and chill, they aren't part of your household, so should they not be able to watch a movie you are renting? If you want your friends to see something cool, who cares if they live a town away? That movie is still being paid for, and your "rental" will renew the following month when you pay your bill.
It feels like going to a video store, paying for a bunch of movies, then having to march back to the store with the friend who's going to watch them with you so they can also pay for the movies......while you're still renting them.

The thing people need to get is that it's about more than a queer pirate show.
Art forms are being strangled because of how corporations are allowed to be run. Because the people in positions of power don't give a fuck about creativity, storytelling, or the impact of media on people. It doesn't matter to people like David Zaslav what the companies they're running deal in. They're in it to squeeze out all the money they can and they don't give a shit what gets thrown away in the process. There is no appreciation or respect for what their companies are supposed to be focused on.
Capitalism kills art and it needs to be put on a leash, and these streaming services need a slap in the face. For fuck's sake, there was just a strike over this. The writers weren't going to take the greedy bullshit these companies were serving them, and audiences shouldn't either.

I know everyone's talking about all the horrible HBO MAX decisions, but can we also talk about Disney removing Avatar, a movie that's over a decade old, from their streaming service because they're re-releasing it in theaters? Because, wow, that's bad too
