Saints Cosmas and Damian were two twin brothers physicians and early Christian martyrs. They are widely popular in Brazil and said to be patron saints and protectors of children. Their feast day is September 26th and, on this day, Saints Cosmas and Damian’s devotees prepare bags of candy and sweets to give to the children on the streets as a way to pay tribute and say thank you.
Although I am not a Catholic, I personally like Saints Cosmas and Damian very much. I think that their history is nice (being physicians that never accepted money to treat people) and that the whole feast day celebration is happy and wholesome, and that brings me joy.
(I also love candy, although I am an adult now, so I no longer get candy bags)
