Charles Brooks, a resident of Newark, N.J, is credited with inventing the street sweeping trucks in 1896 with revolving brushes.
Street sweeping was a manual job until he invented the self-propelled street sweeper.
—Street sweeping was often a manual labor job in Brooks' time. Keeping in mind that horses and oxen were the main means of transportation — where there is livestock, there is manure. Rather than stray litter as you might see today in the street, there were piles of manure that needed to be frequently removed regularly. In addition, garbage and the contents of chamber pots would end up in the gutter.
The task of street sweeping was not carried out by mechanical equipment, but rather workers who roamed the street sweeping garbage up with a broom into a receptacle. This method clearly required a lot of labor, although it did provide employment.

Had a cop follow me into one of my lots at work today. Watched me pull in before turning on his lights to pull me over.
Wanted to know why I was going to this place at this time of night, all the stores have been closed for hours. Had to explain to him that I am driving a truck that cleans parking lots and that I am here to clean it.
“Ahh so that’s what this truck does . ..”
Anyways he decides to lecture me about how itt’s a crime to loiter about in private parking lots when they’re closed and that I shouldn’t do that . .. as if I don’t work for these private companies/individuals who TELL me to call the law on loiters (I don’t) because they shouldn’t be there, before he finally leaves me alone.

Look my dude, I don’t know what else to say other than telling you to look at my truck. Like, if this isn’t a lot cleaner then what COULD it be? I thought it was blarringly clear as to what it was when I first saw one.

Street Sweeper
The sweepers roam endlessly, scrubbing away the refuse—and anything else too slow or too clumsy to get out of their way.

From this day in 1989.
Shirley Porter (left) and Margaret Thatcher attempt to drive a new motorised road sweeper up Downing Street.
According to the publicity, these new vehicles would make it easier to clean the pavements and gutters of Westminster.
It's one of the ones looking a bit like this:

Shirley Porter was the leader of Westminster City Council, later convicted of corruption when she evicted council tenants so that their homes could be sold to yuppies more likely to vote Conservative. Margaret Thatcher was an amateur theologian who lived in Westminster.

Driving
Even though we are in the winter months, the setting of this experience took place during the summer. I suppose the subconscious does not distinguish what season to display. Well, the full setting looked like a typical summer’s day on the block from the eyes of how I saw it during my teens. I was in a car, it looked like the first car that I owned, but instead of being a Ford, it was a Honda. It…

That’s not a street sweeper.
That’s a Destroyer of Worlds.
Don’t worry.
It’s an easy mistake.
Happens to the best of us.
*IT DOES NOT*
