I love how deeply human it feels to braid my hair. Like. Since the dawn of humanity people all over the world have been looking at their long hair and going "you know what would make this easier to manage and also look beautiful? If I condensed some of this a bit." And now, in the modern age, I can be one of those people

hi hi okay imagine. stede wants to brush out ed's hair the way izzy always does. maybe izzy is busy on deck taking note of damages after a raid. maybe they had an infestation and he's going over ration spoilage and inventory with roach. ed is tired and cranky and absentmindedly separating sections of curls and tugging them apart at the bottom where they get stuck together in knots. stede offers to help with the tangles, says he would love to give it a go and help ed relax

izzy walks in a few minutes later and immediately comes up and tells stede he's doing it all wrong but also gently takes the brush from him and shows him the right way - where to hold the hair, how to start at the bottom with little sections and work his way up, when to start with his fingers instead of the brush. neither of them can see it but ed is smiling so much his face might actually burst

#ofmd hc #steddyhands #izzy hands #edward teach #stede bonnet #listen. you really think stede knows how to do hair #no way did he have an intimate enough connection with mary to do this for her #and alma's hair looks fairly thin and straight so even if he did give the occasional brush before bedtime long curly hair is so different #especially out in the ocean air?? that is not a ten second process to undo let me tell you #yes I'm strongly in club izzy-did-jeff's-hair but even if he didn't then I think it would have been ed #stede simply doesn't have the experience and know-how - yet #izzy on the other hand. i like to think this is something of a ritual that they have #ed sitting back with his leg stretched out at the end of a long day and izzy behind him first working out the tangles slowly bit by bit #then once all the tangles are gone just brushing from the top of his scalp down the full length of his hair in long and gentle strokes #izzy would have him practically purring and when he's done ed would be ready to fall asleep right then and there #izzy nudging ed to get into bed because he might not care now but he'll care in the morning if sleeping here fucks up his knee or back #(because no one is more of an expert at taking care of ed than izzy) #maybe their ritual can change to involve izzy starting on each section and undoing the worst of the knots with his fingers #then stede following it up with brushing out each section #stede doing the post-tangle brushing until ed's hair is as soft as it can be while izzy lies next to ed with his head in ed's lap #bonus: ed now gets to run his hands through izzy's hair too can you imagine #ANYWAY i'm here for this very soft tender stizzy moment of izzy teaching stede to properly care for ed #just a little post

am encountering cross stitch related problems

#1) the colors they gave me for 'blue' and 'light blue' are just BARELY different #so im using two strands of blue to make it a little more clear which is which (if i didnt itd be nigh impossible to tell them apart at BEST #but now im worried ill run out of the blue before im finished and THAT is going to really bother me #im really really hoping i can stretch what i have left but its gonna be really tight if i dont straight up run out. #im going to actually attempt doing some algebra to figure out if i can make it #2) i fucking DID IT AGAIN and misplaced a cross stitch needle in my fucking BED goddammit are you kidding me #i GOTTA start doing this somewhere else #its a cross stitch needle so its very very blunt and itll be fine but like. I finished 'the sky sang out your name to me' and MAKER WHAT HAPPENS NEXT???! What happens to Eilan in Solas' bold new world?! If you ever do write a part 3 please let me know I am so curious to follow her story it was fabulous and heartbreaking!

Ahhh!!! Thank you for this comment and the one on AO3. I do have the next part in draft at 65k! It's happening. It's just a much more complicated fic than the first. Multiple POVs, parallel subplots, some that intersect and thus timing is key. Lots more world building too! I zoom out from just Eilan and her POV to see Thedas writ large. What is happening across the map? How are our faves doing? POV characters are Eilan, Solas, Varric, Dorian, Josephine, Sera. A big part of the sequel's arc is Eilan going from thrashing against the horrors of the post-Veil roil to accepting her place alongside the power center in Thedas, even as Solas does his usual "who, me? no i don't want power, i'm just some guy" and yet of course can't help but wield his power because he has it, knows he is right, someone must act, etc. Classic Solas! Oh! One thing I like about them as a couple in the sequel is that Solas actually becomes a better partner! Once he's less myopic on the Veil and more grateful to her, he can actually listen to her complaints and adjusts and likes himself better as a person, so that's cute. But of course it leads them down dangerous roads because again they become so self-absorbed in their relationship. They just keep saying "you're the best" to each other while ignoring all the terrible turns the other takes. Josephine, Varric, Dorian and Sera all take dark turns as their world is ended and they are embittered. Mwhahahaha. I have had SOOOO much fun world-building and writing politics in Tevinter. A lot of that is done. If you really REALLY want to know what happens next in greater detail and don't mind spoilers, I can share in DMs. I do want to finish it but I got Lexlan on the brain. I think you might also really like Lexlan cause, I think, if I am picking up on things correctly, you like this obsessive love. It happens with Lexlan too but manifests in a totally different, fresh, and youthful way. Also that story is just starting and we got some fans on the train so we can all scream together.

If I think about Hesh for too long I think I’ll burst into tears. This poor fucking guy. He has to sit helpless while a monster forces his little brother to shoot their dad. All he can do is scream. And when it comes time to kill that monster he barely makes it out alive, and then only thanks to his little brother. And the nightmare is over but it isn’t because the monster cannot die and takes away the only family Hesh has left. He has to sit helpless while the monster drags his little brother away. All he can do is scream.

His story ends bleeding and orphaned and alone.

Ugh and my other stupid mountain town gripe for the day is that it’s fucking spring bear season and I’m tired of rounding up groups of students and running for the nearest building because a fucking bear decided to take a lil walk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhh

#2/3 days so far this week lol #I’m not going to go into the details as to why this is inconvenient. because I am ANNOYED #so just trust. #it’s so funny bc there were like No Bears (yeah the award winning Iranian documentary) growing up and now it’s just a part of life #like I really just didn’t have a grasp as a child on how much bears would just be a factor in everyday decisions when I grew up #to be clear it is because I moved hundreds of miles away into bear country #there hasn’t been like. a proliferation of bears in the last 20 years #like backpacking in PA and NY I just didn’t do bear hangs or use canisters at all #it is sooooooooooooo annoying let me tell u #because it’s a hard task and it’s always in the dark and it’s always right before bed when you’re exhausted #and every time I’m like THIS TIME I BUY A BEAR CANISTER and guess what! every time I don’t #and **** used my bear hang rope to make a third stretch of clothesline bc he has 6483939939393 pairs of underwear every single week somehow

I should really work out more again cause I'd feel less exhausted and unmotivated. But I'm too exhausted and unmotivated to work out. Cool.

#all I do is walk and go to training once a week and some very basic yoga stuff #I managed to do an actual short 24-minute tabata workout on Saturday plus some stretching but Saturday was long ago #I wish I could get out of bed earlier again to work out before work #but that isn't happening #I feel so pathetic

Not to be THAT person but yoga has helped with my chronic pain so much

#I suck at it #but if I’m feeling tense I’ll do a few stretches and poses on my bed #and it helps untense my muscles and relax my joints #I’m very privileged having the ability to do this and not everyone with chronic illness/pain can do it #obvi don’t push yourself or hurt yourself trying if its not right for you #but if you haven’t tried it before and you’re curious #I suggest searching up easy yoga poses that are gentle on your joints #my favorite for my back pain is child’s pose #chronic pain #chronic illness #fibromyalgia
