Steve Rogers as The Archer
i will never shut up about steve rogers and consequently my mind also never shuts up about him - especially when i'm listening to this song because it's so fundamentally him
so here is my pointless, nonsensical analysis of it
Combat, I'm ready for combat I say I don't want that, but what if I do?
in age of ultron it's mentioned that steve is a man who doesn't know what to do/doesn't know who he is if he's not fighting
in civil war he also says that he wishes when he sees something wrong he "could ignore it". when tony points out that "no he doesn't" steve straight up admits that he doesn't; he craves fighting because it's all he's known

"i never grew up, it's getting so old" - he never got to live the life he was supposed to before freezing; he constantly has to readjust to the modern world and practically relearn everything
he's grasping for the opportunity to have someone he can rely on because of this
I've been the archer I've been the prey Who could ever leave me, darling? But who could stay?
kind of self-explanatory but he's been both the hunter and the hunted in his life
"who could leave me/who could stay"; the idea of who could ever leave captain america because he's captain america, but nobody actually stays in the end for him
And I cut off my nose just to spite my face Then I hate my reflection for years and years
i mostly associate this bit with civil war simply because of the cutting of my nose to spit my face phrase; it means to disadvantage oneself through a wilful attempt to gain an advantage or assert oneself
whilst i don't think steve regretted the decisions he made in civil war, i think there must've been some regret about how he went about doing it and how it affected him and his relationships
like he was on the run/in hiding for two years essentially because of his choices soooo

this isn't really anything crazy but i always think about the scene in tfa when him and bucky are escaping hydra and the whole place is on fire and he has to jump over it yknow?

i feel like his character is one that has the constant anxiety of having to prove himself; all his physical abilities and what others deem as useful in combat came from the serum - there's the thought of having to show that he's worthy of it, that he was the right decision etc etc
he also canonically has a lot of guilt for things that've happened eg bucky's 'death' - we're are own worst critics so this paired with the want to be worthy must've felt like a thousand eyes watching for him to make a mistake again

Continuing on my theme of random thoughts:
What if the reason Steve was so old when he finally made it back wasn't because he lived out his life in an alternate timeline, but because he nipped back for five minutes just to clean up (return the stone, keep his promise to Peggy, rescue Bucky) and then thought 'I could do more' and got completely carried away?
What if he's just spent eighty odd years hopping from timeline to timeline rescuing Buckies left right and centre?
He's just about dumb enough to think that if he keeps going, maybe he can save them all.
Well, all except his Bucky, and he'll never forgive himself for that.

Bucky seems to switch between Soft Autumn and Soft/Light Summer depending on which photo I use, so IMO he's a True Soft. 😅
I was expecting Steve to be a Bright Winter like CEvans is, but apparently the blond hair bumps his palette up to a True Summer. (Maybe if there was such a thing as a Bright Summer…? 🤔)

"he is willing to die for everyone": life and death for stevebucky
I wrote this because I saw a post that said something like "'A's willing to die for B'. A is willing to die for everyone, what's the big deal about the ship." it's not about stucky or any ship, but this has always been on my mind.
throughout the trilogy, they have quite different attitudes towards life.
steve to some extent has always been ready to die, partly because he has had brushes with death multiple times since he was a kid. as rebellious as steve, he probably feels like being afraid of death is a sign of weakness, so he stands up to it and dares death to finally take him. that sentiment evolved to full blown passive suicidal tendency after bucky's death. another reason is that since he became cap, he understands that he's meant for something larger than life and certainly larger than himself, he's accepted that he'd one day die for the greater good.
bucky is the opposite, he clearly wants to live. in the cut scene in catfa he ordered the unit to surrender bc they'd have a better chance of surviving that way than going up against hydra alien weapon. after caws, he was trying to find a reason to live when many people in the same situation would've just ended it (and bucky thought about it too).
which brings me to my point. for someone who's so ready to sacrifice himself, bucky is steve's reason to live, while the love for steve always trumps bucky's will to live.
like I pointed out in a previous post, even when he had no idea what he was capable of, steve jumped through fire for bucky. whereas when it was peggy who pleaded, begging him to find a way to survive the plane crush, he didn't even try.
in the same scene, bucky, who just survived weeks of torture and had a clear way out of there, refused to leave without steve, knowing full well that they could both end up dying.
sebastian made it clear that bucky only stayed because of steve. in a way, bucky knew that if he died it'd be for steve, not for the country or the greater good, just steve. and that's the only acceptable way to die in a war that he'd grown sick of.
yes, steve was willing to die at bucky's hands in that helicarrier, but alternatively, he was also leaving the choice to live completely up to bucky. the scene can be interpreted as steve telling bucky "if you remember me, save me. save us." there was only one way steve would survive, there was only one reason steve would be willing to live and that was bucky. remember that steve was so ready to die with bucky when he told maria to "fire now". bucky was the only reason he even tried to survive this.
in civil war, bucky had been trying so hard not to kill himself and build a normal life. he must've wanted to go back to steve at some point and rebuild their relationship together. but as soon as he realized not everyone was going to get out of siberia alive, he told tony "I remember all of them" so tony would go after him instead of steve. he was trading his life for steve's.
one thing about superhero ships is that, yes, they are totally willing to die for anyone. steve would totally be willing to die saving a single person from a collapsing building, but bucky is his reason to find a way to not die saving that person.
bucky is as much as hero as steve, he continued to fight when he could've just butted out and no one would've said a thing. for bucky, he wants to go home after the fights, but as long as steve is still out there risking his stupid ass, bucky will make peace with death and follow steve anywhere.

Queerbating- it’s history, the beauty and my thoughts
Introduction- my thoughts on Queerbaiting and Queercoding  
Let's talk about queerbaiting. Now Queerbaiting itself is a huge topic, so I will only focus on Queerbaiting in the film industry.The word queerbating comes from the word queer and bait first what does either of these  terms mean, Queer means not fitting traditional ideas about gender or sexuality, especially the idea that everyone is either male or female or that people should only have sexual relationships with the opposite sex while Baiting means:something that is said or offered to people in order to make them react in a particular way.  When combined Queerbaiting is seen as when a person or character is hinting that they are in a way queer . This is done mostly to attract queer audiences and since they lack much representation I would say queerbaiting  works most of the time.There are multiple examples of queerbating, one such example is Sherlock and  John from the 2010 BBC show Sherlock or Dean and Casitel from the 2005 show Supernatural.The second question asked would be ‘why would someone? The answer to this question is fairly simple to me. Homophobia. I personally would say that the reason writers result to queerbaiting instead of giving us an actual proper queer character is the fear of the conservative viewers disliking it.Thus, they write in a subtly queer character who would attract queer people while still allowing the show to not be considered homosexual just so that the age criteria of the show does not become too high  in order to attract a larger audience. Though, One might say it's the best of both worlds, but it really isn’t.
What started Queercoding in films?
When looking at the cause of Queerbaiting, one has to look at the “Hays Code” that old Hollywood had to abide by . From the early 1930s to the late 1960s, The Motion Picture Production Code or better known as the “Hays Code”, restricted what could or could not be shown in Cinema. Queer content was not allowed to be explicitly shown as it was against the rules that state: “ The sympathy of the audience should never been thrown to the side of crime, wrong-doing ,evil or sin”. Homosexuality obviously was seen as a sin in the 30s and sadly still is by some in the present day. Thankfully, this did not stop many filmmakers from still bringing up such topics in their works. This brings us to one of the founding fathers of cinema, the late Albert Hitchcock.
 Albert Hitchcock-  One of the most influential people in the history of cinema 
 Albert Hitchcock is known for his many film masterpieces such as Psycho , Vertigo , Strangers on a Train and my personal favourite Rope. Most of Hitchcock’s films, regardless of genre, have something in common- subtle queerness. Arguably two of Hitchcock’s favourite actors to use in his projects are John Dall and Farley Granger, who both were undeniably queer. Which only adds onto the queer subtext in his works. Through making these characters more feminine or creating strong sexual tension between male characters, we are  able to depict his characters as queer. Which was a bold move for someone in the 1960s. This method of adding in subtle queer characters is one of the many early example of queercoding in films.
What inspired the phrase?
 Many would say that the phrase “Queerbaiting'' dates back to the 1990s as a variant of the equally controversial phrase “race-baiting”. Which according to the Cambridge Dictionary is “The act of intentionally encouraging racism or anger about issues relating to race, often to get a political advantage”. Tumblr users in 2010 however have a different view. They say they were “baited” like fishes with bait on the hook. Like they were baited or tricked into thinking there was LGBTQIA+ representation in the show they were watching. Thus the term - Queerbaiting.
Back to the modern film industry.
 Now in many films we watch, Queerbaiting is still widely present. However, I would argue that the representation of LGBTQIA+ community has improved dramatically as there are more Queer Characters in mainstream cartoons. For example, in the Cartoon Network series, Adventure Time, after 10 whole seasons and 8 years of the show, the ship “Bubbline” (Princess Bubblegum and Marceline)was finally confirmed in 2018.There is also an increased number of LGBTQIA + people shown in mainstream media.Like the Netflix reality show, Queer Eye. Such representation is important as it shows queer questioning youths that they are valid regardless of their sexuality or gender identity. Although the situation is a lot better compared to the 1960s, there is still room for improvement. Many countries still have a ban against LGBTQIA + representation in mainstream media, one such country is here in Singapore.
 Shipping within the fandom
With the idea of Queerbaiting,"baiting"fans into watching the show. How do fans coping with their disappointment- shipping.  According to Wikipedia  the definition of shipping is:”the desire by followers of a fandom for two or more people, either real-life people or fictional characters to be in a romantic and/or sexual relationship. It is considered a general term for fans' involvement with the ongoing character development of two people's character arcs in a work of fiction.” Now there are multiple popular ships that are widely known, for example,“Stucky” or Captain America and his longtime best friend Sergeant Barnes from the Marvel Franchise. This of course happens with real people as well. One popular example is the ship “ Larry” which consists of Harry Styles and Louis Thomlinson from the band One Direction however the focus of this is on Film so we would not be going into that . Many fans would come up with a large amount of evidence from the shows or films to back up why their ship should have been canon. Fans could look into the smallest details like the way the characters' eyes react or the characters' subtle hand actions. I personally am guilty for taking part in  shipping as well. 
 Luca- the 2021 disney pixar film[ my favourite animated film]
To Serve as a summary,I want to dissect the film Luca . The Conversation has an article written by Kodi Maier on queerbaiting in animation and they mentioned the film Luca and brought up some valid points. That article is one of the many things that inspired the writing of this. Now this is personally one of my favourtie films of all time and although throughout the film there are little to no queer representation shown. It is to me one of the best examples of queerbaiting in film .Let me explain why I as a Queer person really enjoyed this film and why i think Queerbaiting was indeed present.  The film focuses on our two main characters Luca Purgo and Alberto Scarfano, throughout the film they share a very close relationship or what many might interpret as an achillean relationship. Luca can also be seen going through what many LGBTQIA +youths go through: the fear of being different and the fear of their parents finding out about that difference ; Luca finds out about the joy of going to the surface which is what started his relationship with Alberto however due to his parents or most sea monsters fear of the surface, Luca is forced to hide about his adventures and Alberto. Throughout the time Luca and Alberto spent on the surface they still have the fear of getting caught as sea monsters, it is only towards the end of the film when the small town accepts them do they finally feel comfortable in their own skin. The connection of Luca and Alberto’s fear and the fear LGBTQ people have to go or  went through is what I would say make this a fan favourite. Not to mention the director of the film Enrico Casarosa has said that he discussed the two main characters having a romantic relationship in the animated adventure. It is kind of disappointing that it was decided against , even in the film  the pair is split by an added character, a town girl ,Giulia once again following a hetero pattern. Despite everything, it is still a very good film I feel everyone should watch at least once.

thoughts on peggy carter
i think my biggest issue with peggy carter is marvel is trying to push agendas and pander to audiences as a cop out for formulating a dynamic character. it's obvious she's supposed to be a feminist icon. that's totally cool. i appreciated that as a kid, since i was sick of women being portrayed as weak. the way i see it, peggy suffers from weak portrayal, not portrayal that she's weak.

before the peggy fans comment/reblog, "omg not another stucky blog posting peggy hate. leave her alone!!" i don't hate peggy, I just want a clearer picture of who she is. i enjoyed her in the mcu but i wish marvel would've given her justice within the writing. this isn't hate for hayley atwell either. she did really good in her acting, enough so i watched more movies with her in it intentionally.

peggy always read to me as a half-developed side character -- no matter if she's the main character. my one of my biggest complaints is that she seems to have little to no motive. motive is what drives people and your main character having consistently unclear motives is sloppy writing.
helping steve? sure, she's his commanding officer and she seemed to like him.
"win the war"? well sure, that was a lot of other people's motives in ww2. why did she even join the war anyways? what convinced her to sign up? she didn't have to, she could've done other work. what was so compelling about the war to her?
for the what if episode: why'd she choose to take the super serum?
my point here is: there are too many points where one questions why she did ___ that could have been better defined (esp in the what if series).

marvel can make her much more interesting (and to me appealing) character by not putting her in comparison to steve. they would be forced to solidify her character instead of wimping out and saying "well she's the love interest." I'm not saying that she can't have both a relationship and be a strong woman - many women have/are both. however, when your entire personality depends on your relationship to one person, it's not very healthy or wise.
the concept of marvel pushing for steve and peggy's relationship is fine, that's how romance novels are made. but the lax follow-through on character development removes my interest for the ship. how good romance novels bring interest to each character is by establishing them. they also used peggy as way to pander for chris evans himself - she was an easy way to get steve rogers out of upcoming plot lines. (side note: chris evans is totally justified in not wanting to work for marvel anymore, they just should've handled his character's ending less sloppily)
as for the ship - i would see more value in the steve x peggy ship if i could tell what type of person peggy is. especially when you take away steve. i see value and interest in steve and bucky because, even though bucky was made as a sidekick to steve, he has a strong character. would i want to see him even more fleshed out? yeah, ofc. would i say he's more fleshed out than peggy? yes, because in one movie you can tell who bucky is and why he's doing things. i see why people ship steve and peggy, and I see why people ship steve and bucky. both stances are valid.
i haven't seen it yet nor i do know if i will watch it due to personal time and budget constraints, but i hope that the agent carter series strengthens her character.
ultimately, peggy is the victim of poor and sexist writing.
(note:: this is my personal opinion & analysis, based on the first two cap movies and the what if series. im not speaking for anyone but myself. if you feel like her character is rich enough and you're satisfied by her portrayals, that's great, I just wanted to share my stance. again, i don't hate peggy, I just want a clearer picture of who she is and why she does what she does)

I know my last experience with a season ending on a note everyone hated and unanimously tore to fucking shreds for destroying the story on every level was... atypical. Lockdown. 6 month mass hysteria at minimum. Conspiracy theories that were, like, real things we had on camera. There was a Twitter wedding. Creative fervor that broke 100k fics on AO3.
Like. I know this is not a rational point of comparison and I'm not going to expect anything in my lifetime to match it 🤣
But.
If that was the highest high of post-season fandom engagement built on a cocktail of tasting everything you ever wanted AND the absolutely lethal levels of spite and swearing to eat showrunners' hearts in the marketplace, then whatever the fuck is going on after OFMD S2 is the opposite of that.
OFMD S1 was a huge fandom explosion. One silly little streaming show that had a gay kiss and then it skyrocketed. Fic numbers were soaring, high activity fic and meta engagement lasted for at least four months, it was constantly trending and flooding the dash... Like, fucking hell, over a year and a half after the immediate finale fervor it beat Stucky in the top ships bracket?!? To the point I was willing to give it what felt like due credit toward its potential as a future juggernaut ship. Not guaranteed, of course, but the potential was there.
In that context, new content should be a blow out party. Which it kinda was pulling off as it was airing, but looking back now? Not even quite a month later?
The effect of S2 on the fandom is like... a blip. Possibly over already.
New fic numbers started dropping off the moment the finale aired and have returned to deep hiatus levels. It's dropped off trending and streaming leaderboards... I'm very curious to see the first tumblr Week in Review since the finale, though we're still waiting due to the holiday.
Like, I've even popped on to scroll a few Izzy hater blogs that I know loved the finale out of morbid curiosity what they were up to, and I'm telling you... if I hadn't just watched the new season I'd think they were still over a year into hiatus. Saw some standard bitching about the izcourse / Edward takes (aka the one thing that kept them going all hiatus), they're currently passing around posts mocking one specific long OFMD version of TJLC I'm just hearing of, the same BTS gifsets everyone else is thrilled by... But barely any new meta or discussions. There's like 2 people posting actual analysis of S2 that's getting reblogged and they aren't even names I recognize from the hiatus. Nor is it particularly interesting to read. 🤷‍♀️
In July of 2022 I could pop onto a random OFMD blog and scroll through a dozen enthusiastic Stede or BlackBonnet metas about jacket colors or that moth from 1x07 or lighthouse symbolism or whatever. Now the new stuff has the same energy as posts from June 2023. It's borderline dead. And this is what it's like when there's an active campaign to engage fandom and Renew as a Crew?
(I will say fanartists are bringing some energy and there's some lovely pieces being passed around, which I do think the Renew as a Crew campaign is helping to boost?)
Even the hundreds of people saying it was a beautiful season and they loved it so much don't seem to be finding it a very engaging or inspiring season.
It's such a turn, like, what the fuck.
