10/16/2022 the government is doing a beta of the student debt relief form and accepting applications now! For the application you just have to give them your name, social security number, birthday, phone number and an email address. That’s it. Nothing else.

The link above is to the information page on studentaid.gov. You’ll have to click the apply link from there.

I am a queer graduate student struggling with her finances because I go to a school who pays us $10000 a year under the poverty line and then forbids us to take on any more work. I am $2000 in credit card debt, but honestly getting $500 to close out my credit card bill and avoid interest by Jan 15th would be enough. when I did the fafsa it was like "now you can also fill out your state scholarship form!" and I was like yes I am a fan of scholarships so I did but then I finished and it was like "here's this chart. you're eligible for every scholarship with an x in its column" but here's the thing there were no xs. but I continued reading the instructions anyway and they were like "now you can submit your application!" so I did and guess what you guys I guess this means I just submitted a scholarship application for no scholarships

I HAVEN'T SEEN THIS ANYWHERE ELSE - STUDENT LOAN DEBT RELIEF IS CURRENTLY BLOCKED.

Fun thing that I noticed today while planning to submit my debt relief application.

The debt relief process was ruled "unlawful" by a court in Texas. Currently, if you HAVE submitted your application, you should be fine.

Given the circumstances, it is believed - but not outwardly stated - that the application window will be extended once this court ruling is squared away.

Best case scenario, it'll be fixed before the end of the year and applications will open back up before repayments begin again for most borrowers.

Worst case scenario, it won't be solved in appeals court and will go to the SCOTUS.

Stay optimistic everyone, we'll get the debt relief one way or another.
