The Boy and the Heron - Tickle Headcanons

I have been so excited for this movie for so long! Obviously, more “Ghibli Giggles” drabble collections are going to spring out of this, but in the meantime, here are my immediate out-of-the-theater thoughts.

Mahito Maki

Ticklishness Rating: 7.5/10

Most Ticklish Spots: Armpits, Feet

He does not like being tickled at. All. 😆 He’ll get all pouty and mad if someone tries it.

The only person he ever allowed to tickle him without elbowing them in the face was his mom, but even that made him sulk.

His preferred form of retaliation is to push, shove, and (if necessary) punch.

One of those boys who doesn’t “laugh” as much as “yell and scramble in the opposite direction.” (You know the trademark “Ghibli run” that every single character does at least once? Where they sprint and hold their arms out like geese? That.)

Sort of lonely growing up. Schoolmates and friends don’t usually tickle him; it’s pretty uncommon and comes as an unpleasant, embarrassing shock.

Will hold his breath, squeeze his eyelids tight, and suck his lips in between his teeth to keep from laughing. His record is about 15 seconds.

⬆️ This frog incident (not to mention that time the pelicans swarmed him) really tickled, but he was too nervous to laugh. XP

Himi

Ticklishness Rating: 9/10

Most Ticklish Spots: Feet, Tummy

Always covers her face and shrieks whenever someone pokes her. Maybe a tiny bit embarrassed by how ticklish she is. ^^

Definitely a screamer. And a kicker. Her laugh is bubbly and cheerful and she seems to have fun with tickling, but she can’t hold still to save her life.

Be careful - she’s usually got a firm control of her pyrokinesis, but too much tickling can cause her to expel fire blasts all over the place!

The only people she ever tickles are her little sister and Kiriko. (She tried it on a parakeet guard once…ineffective.)

She’s a sneaky one, fond of surprise attacks. Has spidery fingers that love to poke.

A daydreamer. Sometimes when she’s cleaning up her little house, she pretends that her feather duster is tickling the furniture. That makes her giggle.

The world created by The Granduncle is stuffed to the brim with sentient bird species, and one of Himi's hobbies is collecting their discarded feathers. (Not directly related, but she does know which ones tickle the most!)

Kiriko (Young)

Ticklishness Rating: 8/10

Most Ticklish Spots: Balls of the Feet, Ribs, Armpits

Unusual Ticklish Spots: Upper Back

Loves being tickled on her ribs and her tummy until she can’t breathe…that’s a super-fun endorphin rush for her…but can’t handle it on her feet. Armpits are 50/50; that depends on how much she likes you.

She struggles - needs to be restrained or held down. Her toes get very wiggly when she’s tickled near there; it’s pretty adorable.

Big sister energy. A fan of rowdy horseplay, of all kinds - wrestling, noogies, tickle fights, the works. (She’s also a dirty cheater.)

Her first-choice method of cheering up a grumpy Lady Himi is to mercilessly tickle her until she's too happy to frown anymore.

Uses aggressive attacks; really digs her fingers hard into her victim’s vulnerable spots and scratches wildly. Can be very mean if she wants to.

You can hear her amazing laugh for miles. She always throws her head back and lets loose a hysterical smoker's cackle that makes everyone around want to laugh along with her. It's fun and contagious and full of life.

Both she and Himi always get a case of the giggles when swarmed by friendly Warawara.

The Grey Heron

Ew. And furthermore, ew.

Not ticklish at all. (Again: ew.) BUT…

The Grey Heron's feathers possess many magical properties. There's a supernatural energy rippling through their fibers thanks to their constant transformation (see, in the film, how they can provide homing magic to arrows and have a biochemical bond with the Heron’s body)...a goofy side-effect of which is that they're much more tickly than normal feathers.

Suffice it to say, this creature should be captured and studied immediately. For science.

• you can’t run away. calcifer will most likely snitch on you. after all, he is howl’s heart

• even if you think you’re safe, you’re not. howl can disguise as who he pleases—it’s just mimicking their personalities and speech that are the issue. for all you know, yandere!howl could disguise himself as some random old lady to keep a close eye on you

— before he snatches you up to take you back to the castle ofc 😌

• you already know you’re going to be sleeping in his room, right beside him. yandere!howl doesn’t want you going anywhere. he wants you to stay at the castle…with him, calcifer, markl, where he knows you’re safe

• you don’t want to see him get mad, do you? if you anger him, then you risk yandere!howl transforming into one of his creature-like forms or worse: he’ll throw a tantrum.

— and trust me when i say that it’s hard to convince him to calm down, so good luck, soldier 🫡 you’re gonna need it

• when he comes back to the castle after being gone for days on end, yandere!howl will make it his sole mission to make it up to you by giving you your favorite flowers, cooking food for everyone, pampering you in anyway he can, and giving you lots of affection (as if he doesn’t do that already)

— you will admit…it is nice seeing someone be hopelessly devoted to you the way yandere!howl is

Poly Headcanons | Howl Pendragon & Sophie Hatter

reader is assumed as gender neutral

life with howl and sophie tends to swing between domestic bliss and wild chaos depending on the day — which shouldn’t be too much of a surprise given who your partners are

sophie and calcipher cook breakfast for the rest of the household every weekend and she won’t let you help, shooing you out of the kitchen with some very lighthearted scolding

howl is very protective of you both but also knows better than to overstep, like he’ll keep you both close when you’re visiting a town any glare at anyone who tries to flirt with either of you, but he trusts you enough to not die when left unsupervised

self care/spa dates are a must and are usually spent indoors with a hot bath, high quality skin and hair care products, comfortable clothes and a warm roaring fire (courtesy of one demon, of course)

matching jewellery? matching jewellery (howl suggested it)

howl will randomly drag one or both of you into the air and start dancing with you whilst you all laugh and try not to fall

whenever howl gets a bit much, you and sophie are able to bring him back down to earth and get him to approach a situation rationally — much to his apprentice’s appreciation

you all end up mixing and matching your clothes eventually until you can’t really remember what clothes originally belonged to who (though howl’s shirts do end up making excellent pyjamas)

magic lessons with howl and sophie? magic lessons with howl and sophie!

they’re both incredibly patient and empathetic (especially after sophie’s had her way with him and his ego) that you end up laughing through your mistakes and picking up a great deal of tips and tricks

lazy mornings with lots of cuddles and barely intelligible conversations are much more frequent after the war and you’ll usually end up staying in bed together until Marco gets bored and forces you all up

you and sophie tend to tease howl about how vain he used to be (which he’ll usually roll his eyes and huff at)

all in all, it’s a very lighthearted and warm and loving relationship filled with laughter and joking and trust and days of doing nothing at all

ghibli boys soft headcanons

╰┈➤ with appearances of haku, howl pendragon, seiji awasawa and ashitaka

-> don’t admit it but loves to watch you doing your duties from afar, seeing you doing your best with the orders along the other girls make him feel happy and proud

-> he knows that you can take of yourself if he is not around ( which don’t happen often ) and loves to see how you act embarrassed and your face goes red when you catch him watching you, a small smile rise in his face

-> when you are off of your duties, he takes you to walk around the gardens and the food tents, haku don’t need to eat but enjoy to watch you enjoy the food, how you cheeks full is a such adorable view, making sure no one try to touch you or take you away

-> i can see ashitaka is a man who enjoy spend time with you no matter what activities you are both doing, maybe is working, walking close to the forest, the only things that’s matter if have you on sight, knowing that you are safe makes him feel comfortable

-> also, teaching you how to use his weapons, as his bow, when he puts his hands over yours and notice how focus you are in order to shot the arrow to the target, a little blush appears in his cheeks and become more evident when you shoot the arrow and look to his face

-> the little injuries in your body show to the world two things, one! you are training with ashitaka often without giving up and two! you are spending time with your beloved one

-> you hugging him as he rides the bicycle around the town, the destination doesn’t matter, as long he can feel you hold him and your face resting in his shoulder, seiji would take you anywhere you want if he receive a kiss as a payment

->he loves seeing you speaking about the future, you imagine both of you living somewhere, with him following his dreams along your, he can’t wait for this to happen

-> but for now, he will kept imagining this while you both are young, but deep down in his heart, seiji knows that he need to find another way to make you his, maybe a ring!

-> showing his magic tricks to you, after all, not only he likes to impress you but loves to see your reactions, how your lips curves to a gentle smile and your cheeks goes red when you receive a kiss from howl

batkids and their favorite 90s anime

Dick: pokemon. the amount of hours he clocked in on his gameboy. he watched the show growing up and still puts it on to unwind sometimes. for sure plays all the games

Jason: slut for studio ghibli films. has watched all of them. kiki's delivery service enthusiast (so valid) and cries during grave of the fireflies every time (also valid)

~Wilbur hadn’t seen any Ghibli before he met you, but when you suggested watching one together for a date he was HOOKED!

~You started by showing him Ponyo.

~To go with the movie, you made honey milk and ramen, which Wilbur absolutely loved.

~Now he makes himself honey milk to relax after a long day in the studio or after gigs.

~About a week after you two finished Ponyo, he begged you to show him another Ghibli film.

~You picked Kiki’s Delivery Service, serving it with a plate of the pancake breakfast and some rice porridge.

~As a surprise, Wilbur made you two hot chocolate in some new Ghibli mugs he bought for you as a gift!

~Obviously, he loved this one too.

~Didn’t even wait until the credits rolled until begging to watch another one the next day!

~Spirited Away was up next, picked after Wilbur looked up a list of all the Ghibli movies.

~You two watched it with some sushi and a painstakingly iced sponge cake you made when he was in the studio that morning.

~Wilbur was immediately obsessed, as you predicted.

~Informed you that once he got out of the studio the next night, you two were watching My Neighbor Totoro.

~Showed up at your house with a big smile and an enormous stuffed Totoro.

~Seriously, the thing was about half the size of him!

~Made plans that very night to have a marathon to watch the rest of the Ghibli movies he had yet to see.

~Ends up being a bigger Ghibli fan than you, and you can’t help but grin whenever you see him excited over it.

Small things that Elliott does to elevate his costume: Fugimoto (Ponyo)

Single:

Elliott would commit to it. The day before, he washed his hair with salt water to get that tussled anxious look on Fugimoto. Don’t worry, the next week he committed hard to his hair routine <3

He probably doesn’t have enough money for makeup, so he gets Leah to do it for him. His eye bags are actually just artfully done green eyeshadow—sleep is important to Elliott.

Married:

The farmer and Elliott prep by watching Ponyo for a date night beforehand.

(I JUST REALIZED THAT LIAM NEESON DID FUGIMOTOS VOICE IN THE ENG DUB??? WHAT)

Thanks to his success of his book, he has quite a bit of pocket money, so he can replace the gold earrings with something genuine, so it doesn’t tarnish so easily. He would still, after all, like to continue wearing these individual pieces casually too. He can also get his suit and shirts mended in the places they need to be, and it over all feels much better to wear! Thank you, Emily!

The farmer wears a flowing pale blue dress that seems to flutter at any given moment. They buy the tiara from the hatmouse, and forge ruby earrings and a matching necklace. Its either go big and go home.

Oh, but unfortunately for the farmer, Elliott outdoes himself with his gift.

He presents them with a circlet made of genuine gold, with the pendant made of sea glass he collected when he lived in his shack. Its one of the treasures he found unintentionally on one of his listless walks for inspiration.

The pendant in his hands is not quite pretty, looking ashy and grey, until you put it on. it glows red, and the inside swirls like it was filled with red waves, sparkling with gold flecks.

With children:

LITTOL SEA CHILDREN.

The farmer’s daughter likes to run around, and they’re laughing privately, as their husband chases the girl around, trying to make sure she doesn’t fall over. He looks like fugimoto himself, without even realizing it <3

The farmer giggles with the sleepy little boy in yellow, adjusting his sea captain hat. Hes wrapped in Elliott’s burgundy cloak looking cozier than anything in the movie.

Book HMC and Movie HMC are in the same universe semi-crack theory xD

(I posted this last year as two different posts, story and art, but thought what the heck I'll put them together and repost it so people can get the full experience)

Crack Howl's Moving Castle Movie theory me and my brother made up that was fun enough I wanted to share xD

The differences in between the book and the movie are actually because Movie Howl is a kid from Ingary who ran into Book Howl when he was young, learned all the wrong lessons from hearing Howl's life story, and decided to base his whole life around his new idol, catching a falling star, stealing Howl's name and image like some sort of non authorized Dread Pirate Roberts pass along. (Also building his own technologically improved Moving Castle cuz Ingary has had an industrial revolution since Book Howl and Sophie's time x)

And the reason the plots are similar-ish to a point is because Movie Howl unknowingly has a similar power to Book Sophie, and his determination to become the new Wizard Howl is causing events around him to shape into similarish events. But it's causing problems by inspiring a new Witch of the Waste to appear and curse a new Sophie (movie never says her last name is Hatter, just that she worked at a shop called Hatter's), a different prince to disappear thus sparking a war, and so on. And basically Movie Howl's fanboying gets him and everyone else into deeper water then he ever expected and he has to actually man up and start living his own life and let everyone loose from this plot he's unwittingly bound them in.

So yeah, Movie HMC is actually in the future of Book HMC and is the result of intense fanboying mixed with magic xD

Regressor Howl + Caregiver Sophie

~okay first of all it is impossible to watch the movie and not think of Howl as a regressor, Calcifer literally reminds Sophie that his heart is still a child’s heart and we see the tunnel all decorated with toys and such.

~Sophie finding out about Howl’s regression by Calcifer being ‘cryptic and vague’ because we all know that Howl would just push off telling Sophie about it to the very last possible chance.

“How old is Howl?”

“Eh, you know, age is a social construct.”

(Confused Sophie noises)

~It’s the silliest thing but Sophie “bullying” Howl into regressing. In other words calling him pet names like little prince and feather, laying out his regression gear in places where she knows he’s going to find it.

~When Howl complains Calcifer just like “now you know how I feel”

~He’s been working on a potion that would actually shrink him down to the size and age of a child but keeps putting it off until he feels the need to regress which of course means it never works right because it’s rushed.

~ Magic is banned whenever Howl is small just for Sophie’s peace of mind (not that this stops the regressed wizard any)

~Forever stuck in his terrible two’s. If Howl doesn’t like something he’s going to make it known in the most dramatic way a two year can

~Sophie having to deal with Howl throwing a fit every time she tells him that he needs to clean up his toys or stop playing because it’s time for dinner.
