Bob Marley & The Wailers - The Best Of (Studio One/Coxsone, 1974) As a reggae aficionado, I have the deepest respect for Clement “Sir Coxsone” Dodd, founder of Studio One and one of the ultimate pioneers of Jamaican popular music. I ordered this treasure direct from the island 40-odd years ago, not knowing that it would come with a silkscreened cover and some VERY unusual typography. I love everything about it, from the chaotic mix, all blunderbuss bass and raw vocal power, to the way it crackles like a warm fire, even though I bought it brand new. Pretty much everything wonderful comes from Jamaica. I’m going to submit that Clark’s Wallabees come from Jamaican New Yorkers as well. I will admit that I bought my first pair after Ghostface shared his ‘crazy visions’ of two-tones. I bought them at a ‘Jamaican-themed’ spot in Harlem around ‘98 and have never turned back.
