The Harding pencroft student aesthetic (House Dolphin):
Studying like three different languages at once
going down the secret codes rabbit hole on the internet
trying to train your memory recall to the point where you can look at something and immediately say something about it
Writing notes in secret code to pass to friends in class
pretending you’re studying to get into HP
going off into the woods by the school during lunch to watch the fish in the creek
Debates with friends about Jules Verne
And also always carrying his books around
having the best gossip on the worst people

sᴛᴜᴅʏ sᴇssɪᴏɴ - ʙᴇʟʟᴀ ʀᴀᴍsᴇʏ
Tumblr media
pairing: bella ramsey x fem!reader
summary: you are on finals week and have trouble studying. Bella helps you with that.
warnings: a little bit of suggestive languge, but it's mostly fluff
note: i just got done with finals last week and thought to write this thing to cope while i studied, but never finished it until now for those same reasons, i was studying and school consumed me. but now i'm free! this is 2.7k words btw, woah.
The desk was ready, every single one of your notes carefully stacked on top of eachother waiting for you to start revising for your exam. It was finals week, and you were exhausted just thinking about going through your notes and completing your study worksheets. Besides, you didn’t fully understand half the topics in the subject and it was hard to even sit down in your chair.
It was a relatively easy subject, you knew that. That’s what frustrated you the most. You had seen this in secondary school already and you had almost failed the class because of this topic, if it hadn’t been for your best friend letting you copy from her you would probably still be stuck in that class.
Now you were seeing the same topic and once again, you found yourself to be completely bored by it. This time no best friend to copy from.
You were looking for every little distraction you could find, like making sure your bed was made, and your laundry was sorted out, even cleaning the dust in your bookshelves –which you had to admit, they were very dusty–. Anything to busy yourself with meaningless tasks instead of actually studying.
At some point in the day you even started going through a photo album you found in your closet, but you had to remind yourself to stop.
Enough.
You had to study sooner or later –although you’d prefer it to be later– you didn’t want to fail your final, it would be too embarrassing for you and for everyone else.
You let out a sigh as you sat down and finally decided to flip through the pages. Every word and number was looking like gibberish to your tired eyes when you heard your bedroom door open in an obnoxious sound. The way the wooden door slammed into the wall let you know who it was bothering you at this very important study time, and you didn’t appreciate another distraction coming by. But this was different, you could let it slide.
“Baby, look what I got uss!” Their voice sounded way too excited for your liking, they even did a little tune to the words and you could picture them doing a weird dance as they walked into the room.
“Hon, I’m trying to study!” you said, spinning in your chair to look at Bella with a tired smile. Just like you thought, they were doing a little awkward dance showing off the white plastic bag in their hand. “How did you even get in?”
“Your mum let me in.” They smiled as they shrugged. That little mischievous smile that you loved, but not right now. Right now it was the biggest distraction in the room. And you hated it, even if you didn’t really.
“Of course she did,” you chuckled. The relationship your mum and Bella had was unnatural, they were friends and you couldn’t believe it. They even had tea every wednesday –when Bella wasn’t working, of course–, something you could never understand. They had absolutely nothing in common, yet they always laughed and found stuff to talk about. Although most of the time they only talked about you.
Most of the time you wondered if Bella was nice to your mum only to keep showing up unexpectedly at your house and not be reprimanded about it.
“Got us dinner!”
“I’m studying!”
You put your pencil down, and followed Bella with your eyes as they sat down on your bed and put the takeaway next to them.
“Let me help you out.”
“Oh, you don’t understand this Bell, it’s not your type of subject.” You quickly glanced at your notes,
“Says who?”
“Uh, me? I don’t think you see this stuff in environmental sciences, baby.”
You giggled looking at your work with barely comprehensive handwriting, and you felt Bella standing up and walking up to you. They took a peek over to your worksheets and your notes, then they let out a soft chuckle.
“This is maths Baby. I can do maths.”
“Can you?”
“What do you think I do in Uni?”
“I don’t know. Plant trees, maybe?”
Bella laughed out loud, and you felt stupid for not knowing anything about your partner’s career. But now that you thought about it a little more it kinda made sense that they did maths, so you laughed too.
“Baby, I do lots of stuff and maths and other things, I don’t plant trees.”
“Alright, sorry! If you say so. Then help me out!”
“That’s what I’m trying to do, let me read the first exercise! These are so easy love, I don’t know what you don’t understand.” You handed them the worksheet, and they started reading, scrunching their nose and eyes as they struggled with your terrible handwriting.  Then they crouched to place the paper in the table again and point at a number. “Is this a– ”
“It’s a five.”
Bella hummed with a smile, “That’s what I thought it was.”
The way they leaned over the desk, only with one hand and their many rings on– you didn’t want your eyes darting that way. You didn’t want to think about their soft arm and holding their hand and feeling the cold sensation of their rings as you entwined your fingers.
But you couldn’t look away from the way they were tapping the sheet of paper with their index finger.
“No it wasn’t.”
“No, it wasn’t.”
“Fuck you.”
“Alright, you want me to explain this to you or do that? ‘Cause…”
“Shut up and help me with this.” You turned away, hiding your flushed face from them. You loved their jokes, you really did, but this was not the time. This was a moment of sadness, of acceptance. You knew you were gonna fail and this was the moment where you finally gave up.
“Scoot over.”
Okay, not so much for the dramatics, Bella actually looked like they could help you understand.
You turned to face them again, with a frown. “I can’t scoot. This is a one-person chair.” It was a light blue office chair, with the little wheels and the arm-rests. Comfortable, but it definitely couldn’t hold two people.
They responded with a groan and an eye-roll. “Just– ” Bella pulled the chair back a little to open up a space in between the desk and you, then sat down on your lap, leaving you completely speechless.
“See this?” they pointed at the first digits of the problem, circling the numbers with their finger. “You have to multiply it by these other numbers, then you can rest the other stuff you get from adding these two and multiplying them to this. These letters have to stay the same though.”
You couldn’t move, not when Bella was sitting on your right leg. And you definitely hadn’t understood a single thing they said.
“So, babe– the answer, what is it?”
“Umm–” you gulped, trying to get some words out, but you were unsuccessful, successfully making Bella turn to you with a grin. Their face was too close to you, you didn’t need it right now. “So the five x goes multiplied by this four x?”
“Uh huh, then what baby?” they whispered into your cheek, you could feel their breath against your skin.
That had been all that had gone through your little empty brain.
“God, I can’t– I´m so gonna fail.”
“You can do it. It’s quite easy. Just watch me, pay attention.”
Bella grabbed the spare pencil from the desk and then slowly whispered to you each step, guiding you until the right answer. You would be lying if you said you listened to that whole explanation. Even if you didn’t want it to, your eyes eventually gave up and only focused on their hands and how they were writing the answers down, not on what they were writing. And of course, the sound of their raspy whispers so close to your ears made you go crazy in silence. But you got everything at the end, kinda.
You could definitely write a whole essay about the way their muscles tensed and the grip in which they held the pencil.
“You got all that, baby?”
“Mhm.”
“Now you do it.”
Very reluctantly you grabbed the pencil again, and continued with the next exercise. You always managed to screw up the order of the steps, but judging by Bella's smile as you finished the problem, you got it right this time.
“How’d I do?” You turned your face to Bella, still sitting on your leg. They looked back at you with that same grin and then placed their lips on your cheek, leaving a small and tender kiss.
“You did great my love. You think you can do the rest? Or do I explain them too?”
“I think I’ve done too much already, I deserve a break.”
You smirked, moving your hand up to Bella’s waist. They looked back at the page, then turned to you again. Bella shook their head with a soft chuckle. “You have no shame.”
“What I do have is an empty stomach, and you did bring food, so please get this away from me."
Bella stood up, grabbing your hand from their waist and intertwining your fingers as they dragged you over to the bed, where the takeaway bag sat. You loved how easy it was to make Bella do anything you wanted to. Whatever it was, they’d do it, no questions. Sure, Bella would help you study if that’s what you wanted, but they would also throw it all away just to bring you food because they definitely knew you were going to forget about dinner if they hadn’t showed up.
When you opened the food containers you could not stop smiling, they had gotten your favourite food. “Bell!”
“Oh, shut up.”
“I haven’t said anything!”
“I can see it in your face.”
“Is it so wrong to say thank you? Is it so wrong to say thank you to my partner for bringing me the best food ever?”
“Yes! It’s horrible, actually. Don’t ever thank me again. I just did it because you weren’t going to eat and your mum asked me to come by.”
You gasped. “You talked to my mum again? How dare you?!”
“She said you hadn’t left your room all day, and that you weren’t answering her.” As Bella explained themself, you could see their smile growing and their cheekbones showing a little more each second. You loved seeing that.
“You can’t be friends with my mum, how many times do you want me to say it?” You furrowed your eyebrows, you loved Bella dearly, but this was going a bit far.
“Yes I can! She’s fun.”
“There’s no way!” You laughed, looking down at your food. “I can’t believe it.”
Bella put their food down, and grabbed your hand. “I worried about you, okay?”
“For being so stupid I couldn’t do a simple equation?”
“Apart from that,” they giggled. “because you hadn’t answered my texts either. Just thought to pop by, check in on you… Your mum was the one to suggest bringing you food, actually. She said if I brought it to you then maybe you’d eat it.”
“I’m fine now, thanks for coming. You saved my life” you exaggerated your own words, letting out a soft chuckle and holding onto Bella’s hand tighter.
“I really haven’t.”
“You explained those riddles to me! That’s basically saving my life.”
They shook their head, “I only explained the first two problems, baby. You know they only get more complicated from there, right?”
“What? I don’t believe you.”
It had to be a joke, right?
“Well, it’s true. They have more steps and they’re longer.”
Well, fuck.
“I don’t want to even look that way anymore, please could you do the exam for me? I will die tomorrow. I just know it. You can go there in my place! Pretend to be me, you’ll do great for me and then I will be able to get some sleep finally.”
Bella laughed at the foolishness of your words. “You silly, I can’t go in your place.”
“Oh, but it would be so nice if you could.”
“I can help you try to understand, that’s it:”
You looked at them with mischief spilling from your soul, “Really? And what will I receive in exchange?” you asked.
They raised an eyebrow. “Maths knowledge?”
“That’s torture. I need an incentive.”
Their eyes widened for just a second, then you knew Bella finally understood what you meant. “Oh, well– Whatever you wish for.”
“I have a few things in mind.”
“Let me teach you all about maths then.”
Less to say the food stayed untouched for a little longer, and you learned about the formulas to solve the rest of the problems. You couldn’t complain this time though, you knew a reward awaited for you, and Bella’s voice guiding you through the problems was enough to change your mind about the subject. You didn’t hate it anymore, not when you had Bella as your tutor.
“I think I won’t fail now, at least I’ll pass. If I don’t forget everything by tomorrow, that is.” You joked as you finished your food, Bella only looked up to giggle at your comment, their mouth was full with food and they couldn’t speak, so you laughed at them and how they tried not to spill anything as they laughed.
When Bella finally passed their food, they said. “You know, if you get less than an eighty percent on that exam I will be very mad at you. I made it so easy for you.”
“You’re the percentages expert, aren’t you?” you teased. Bella only scrunched up their nose and pointed with their fork to you.
“Shut up.”
“My head hurts. Now you have to help me with that.” Eighty percent was an expectation a little too high to have for you. You knew it, Bella knew it, your mum knew it. No one actually hoped for more than that, and that was okay.
“Let me go brush my teeth then.”
Bella of course remembered their promise to you, now they’d do whatever you asked. They put the rest of their food away, standing up to go to your bathroom and use their toothbrush, because of course they owned a toothbrush in your house. Judging by the many times Bella had stayed overnight, it would be weird if they didn’t have their own toothbrush in your bathroom.
“Fuck that, come here.”
You knew it was gross, both of you had just eaten and your breaths smelt like the food you just ate, but you couldn’t care less. You had held up your wishes to kiss them from the moment he walked through the door, but you knew once you did it there was no stopping you, and you really wanted to at least study a bit. But now your study worksheet was complete, and you could do it without any issue.
So that’s what you did, you pulled their hand and dragged them all the way up to you. Now they were standing in front of you and you were sitting down in your bed. And you looked at them like it was the first time you locked eyes, and then Bella smiled at you knowing what was about to happen. You pulled them into a well needed kiss, because both of you knew the other was waiting for it to happen.
And it didn’t matter that you were gross, because believe it or not, it was one of the best kisses you two had, and it evolved into something you would never forget. Between kisses and caresses, and forgotten headaches, Bella and you finally had the rest you both needed, releasing your energy on the other and finally –after such a long day– being together, how you two liked it.
No studying, no maths, no weird little distractions, just you and Bella. You and your partner, finally cuddling and kissing, and maybe something more.
Just like it should be, always.
You actually got a ninety five percent on your exam the next day, and you could feel through the air how proud of you Bella was when they picked you up from your class and you told them.

do you think extinct gaelic dialects could possibly be revived (saying nothing of the likelihood of that happening) if enough people were to make an effort in learning/speaking them? sometimes i look at old dialects as a learner and wish somehow they could be brought back
Depends on the dialect and how extinct they are. First of all, people like to speak of some dialects as extinct when they're not yet, they're just very threatened. For example, there is a still a native speaker of Perthshire Gaelic alive - she's 104 but she's still kicking. The same for Easter Ross Gaelic - still has one old woman who's a native speaker, a fisherwife in the village of Brora. Her sister passed away last year, making her the last native speaker, but she's still around. One family has kept up Tayside Gaelic for two generations now, and other speakers could learn to speak the local language from them. Other dialects have semi-speakers, aspects of which could still be picked up though it would not be the complete dialect as gained from a fluent speaker - for example, the son of the last native speaker of Aberdeenshire Gaelic is still alive, and he, while not fluent, is competent in the languge and can recite some poems and rhymes from memory that his mother taught him which will be enough to save some vocabulary and phrases, should someone decide to pick it up.
Then there are dialects who's last native speakers have passed away, but where fluent learners actually did what we're discussing here, and learned the dialect to fluency at those last speakers knees - examples just based on people I know at least somewhat personally would include north Argyle, Dùthaich MhicAoidh, Wester Ross, Glens of Loch Aber and Glen Coe. These dialects, then, also have a lease of life, and could be learned and spoken with now living speakers.
A third category would be dialects which, while extinct, were extensively recorded before their death and which could be picked up with a degree of continuity from those recordings. Isle of Arran, for example (which I know at least Alasdair Paul is doing for his historical novels, who's characters speak with a clear Arrannach flavour), or Badenoch, or Lorne (the last native speaker, Iain MacPhàidein nach maireann, passed away not five months ago), among others. All of these I would say could all be revived and be said to be genuinely the same dialect, even though it will of course change and loose some of it's flavour, and certain sayings or words that just simply were never recorded.
However, there is a last category of dialects that are irreparibly lost, that simply were not recorded in time. Loch Lomondside Gaelic, for example, died out in the early 20th century, and the only extensive collection that happened locally, by Dòmhnall Dewar, was not a linguistic but a folkloric study. The same goes for most of the borderlands and the Southern Highlands, (Cowall, Kintyre, Black Isle, South Argyle, Braemor, and Bredalbane, etc) and generally most districts outwith the crofting region, where the languge (as well as more or less the entirety of the people) disappeared with the clearances, without the lease of life granted by crofting and the crofting act. This goes doubly so for the only dialect of Lowland Gaelic that survived into modern day, in the form of that Gaelic which was spoken in the Glens of Galloway into the 17th century. These dialects are all lost completely. But, as you understand from the earlier list, a surprising number of dialects are still alive and to some extent kicking, and could have a fighting chance if things were to turn out differently. I can give you some tips or contacts if the dialect you yourself is interested in is salvageable, just DM me or send another ask if whatever.

You Don't Look At Me (part 3)
Tumblr media
words: 5.2k pairing: Joel x female!OC, Ellie x female!OC cw: strong languge, angst, violence, I might be forgetting stuff summary: Finally settled in Jackson with her new "family" things seem to go well enough until all crumbles.
note: thank you for your patience. Updates are coming much slower than I like, but I'm just really busy with school lately. I'm sorry for the long wait.
(prologue) (part 1) (part 2)
---
“Mornin’ sweetheart,” Julia said with a bright smile on her face as Lori sat herself down at the table in the kitchen. Lori smiled tiredly at her, still not being used to such a bright and bubbly personality around her. It was nice though and Lori accepted the change with an open mind.
Julia turned to the counter for a second before facing Lori again and placing a plate full of food in front of the girl. She snickered, seeing Lori’s face immediately brighten at the sight of eggs, bacon and some fresh baked bread buns. “Fresh baked bread?” Lori’s voice jumped an octave and her wide eyes snapped between Julia and Robert, who both chuckled. “This is fucking amazing—”
Instantly, the room filled with tension as Lori slapped her hand in front of her mouth. Robert bit his lip, feeling out the air and waiting for someone else to speak up first. It was Julia who spoke first after letting out a disappointed—nearly overexaggerated—sigh. “It’s okay,” she said with a throw of her hands. It was like she was telling it herself more than she was telling Lori. “I get it. You spent too much time with that grumpy man and that potty mouthed daughter of his.” Lori felt her hands clam up, but she said nothing, only nodded her head as her gaze fixed on her breakfast. “I’ll let it slide, but just mind your language.”
“Yes.” Ma’m, she had wanted to say. It was not the first time Julia had been visibly affected by Lori’s way of talking or doing, but it was the first time Lori had been actually scolded by the older woman. The usual light hearted and happy nature of the woman was pretty much indiscernible. Instead, Julia held a fake smile, with clear distaste behind it.
Robert chuckled awkwardly, “eat, Lori.” He nodded towards her food and walked around the table to his wife—quickly giving Lori’s shoulder a comforting squeeze. The couple then disappeared into the study slash office room and all Lori could hear was muffled conversation.
-
“Heeeey.” Lori hadn’t the time to look to the side before she felt someone sitting next to her. “So how’s Mrs. and Mr. perfect treating you?”
“What are you doing here?”
The person shifted awkwardly in their spot and Lori couldn’t help but curse herself. She knew that they had noticed the unusual quiver in her voice. “Are you— I— You told me you’d teach me how to solve these one day?” It sounded more like a question than it should have.
Lori watched Ellie’s finger come into her view as she pointed at the book of sudokus in front of her.
“Right…” Lori’s voice trailed and Ellie couldn’t help, but notice how off Lori seemed.
“I didn’t want to ask, but you got me worried.” Ellie chuckled hesitantly and Lori looked up to match her gaze. “Are you okay? I thought you felt happy with Julia and Robert.”
Lori nodded, expertly spinning her pencil between her fingers. “No, they’re great. I like it there a lot.”
Ellie grimaced at Lori’s unconvincing tone. “You sure?”
“I shouldn’t be spending time with you.”
Ellie seemed to take great offence to that statement. “Why? Did your new little family tell you that?” The amount of venom that laced that word. Family. Lori could feel a chill running down her spine, knowing she wouldn’t be able to forget the way Ellie said that word for the coming days at the least.
“They may have, but it’s me who thinks I shouldn’t be talking to you.”
In a split second, Ellie’s anger and defensiveness died. Her shoulder slumped and her face fell into a frown. “Why would you think that?” Despite the sadness, Ellie’s words still were harsh and pointed.
“I don’t think I ever liked you,” Lori stated, forgoing the chance to look at Ellie’s reaction by staring out to the people at the workshop just across where she and Ellie were sitting—at a table outside one of the meeting spaces of Jackson. “I hated you and then you became the reason I hate Joel, but luckily for you I’m sure I hate Joel more than you.”
Ellie’s mouth opened and closed for a few seconds before she ultimately decided against saying anything. She stood up with a loud and clear huff before childishly taking Lori’s book and harshly sliding it off the table. It snatched on some of the splintering wood, causing some tears in the pages. It then fell into a puddle of mud rendering the book likely unsalvageable. She then stormed off.
Lori was confident saying what she said, but rather unconfident in the truth of what she said.
-
Don’t come in here, Lori thought as she heard the footsteps coming up the stairs. Don’t come in here, she thought when the footsteps stopped before they walked down the hallway and the sound grew louder. Don’t come in here, she continued to think even when the doorknob of her room turned—she still couldn’t believe she had her own room—and the door opened. Don’t come in here, she wanted to say as she noticed Robert’s figure in the doorframe.
“What happened here?” His voice was soft. Robert held the dirty and teared puzzle book in the air by a corner of its cover. He turned his head, rather than the book itself to examine it.
“I dropped it in the mud earlier,” Lori whispered. “It’s fine, I finished them all already.”
Robert chuckled and carefully tossed the book into a bin—it was actually just an empty box that served as a bin. “I don’t think I have any other left. I can make you some myself, but that’ll take a while. Or I’ll just check the trading post next time, but—”
“It’s fine, I don’t want to do any more sudokus for a while.” It wasn’t a lie. Lori had felt like the sudokus were just a way of adults wanting to keep her busy so she wouldn’t be up in their business, or perhaps so they didn’t have to pay attention, for a while now. She just didn’t say anything because for this whole time, she genuinely enjoyed solving those puzzles. Now, however, she didn’t want to see any number in general. They were giving her headaches.
Robert’s smile fell and he sat down on the edge of Lori’s bed. “I thought you loved them?”
“I hate them.” It felt so easy to use that word now. Hate didn’t seem to have the same connotation to Lori as it had to other people. “I mean I’m sick of them.”
Robert nodded before asking Lori to move over a little. Once she did, he sat down next to her with his back against the headrest. “About this morning—”
“It’s okay. I understand. I’m living under your roof and I get that you wouldn’t want a teenager cursing every five seconds. It just slipped because I was excited.”
A soft hum came from the man and Lori brushed her hair to the front so Robert couldn’t see her face reddened by shame. “Kevin just never swore—”
“Your son?” Lori wasn’t asking actually and it was that moment Robert realised what he had said. “He seems so great with all the stories you’ve told me about him. Never swore, really smart, strong and helped out in the house, the neighbours loved him, handsome—”
“He was also stubborn.”
“Stubborn… I guess that’s what me and Kevin have in common,” Lori whispered. “Pretty hard standard to live up to,” she added in a chuckle.
A deep sigh sounded through the room as Robert let his body sink into the bed further. He turned his head to Lori. There was a soft yet careful look on his face. “You don’t have to live up to anyone, Lori. I shouldn’t have brought him up, but that’s why Julia reacted the way she did. She isn’t too fond of that kind of language and Kevin was raised that way.”
Lori nodded, but didn’t say anything. And then suddenly she felt a comforting warmth engulf her. Robert had placed his arm around her shoulders and with his right hand on her upper arm, he pulled her closer into his side. “I’m sorry, Lori. I’m sorry that happened, but Julia still cares so much. She just isn’t used to a tough girl like you.” There was a slight chuckle in his speech and although it was to comfort her, Lori didn’t know if it was achieving that goal.
“I guess so,” she whispered in response.
Robert patted Lori’s arm a few times before getting up and leaving her to “get some rest” in her room, alone.
-
The warmth of spring and summer passed in an instant and the cool air that accompanied mid-autumn chilled every house. The weather wasn’t the only thing that had grown cold over the months for Lori. Her relationships had developed in a rather similar way.
Ellie had continued to try and converse with Lori since that infamous exchange they had, but Lori hadn’t been all that welcoming to her. Eventually, Ellie stopped approaching her and by the time autumn fell, Lori hadn’t spoken to Ellie in at least a month.
Another relationship that had progressed similarly was her relationship with Tommy. Maria as well. They had barely spoken ever since Lori went to live with Robert and Julia. It was less surprising to Lori, though, since Tommy and Maria didn’t know Lori as long or in the same way Ellie did—although it sometimes felt that way. What did surprise Lori was that it felt like they went from being acquaintances to strangers and perhaps even had some bad blood. Whenever Lori went out and saw Tommy or Maria, they barely batted an eye at her and when they spotted her, Lori could’ve sworn that they turned away each time they locked eyes with her.
The most unexpected of such changes was her relationship with the woman who had taken her in. Julia did not like Lori. Lori just knew. She felt like she had to walk on eggshells the whole time she was in the house with Julia and so Lori had pretty much retreated into her room. She spent the most of her time either there or outside, though with the colder weather Lori didn’t have much things to do or warm places to go outside the house. She even went to the dining hall as much as possible to eat, since she would rather eat alone than sit through quiet and tense meals with Julia.
Lori felt like she was in no different situation than when she stayed at Tommy’s before, but it felt even worse now. Julia was rather cold towards her, while Tommy and Maria hadn’t been anything but welcoming. Sure they weren’t all overly sweet and familial, but Tommy and Maria were nice and they talked to her. Julia seemed like she’d do everything rather than talk to Lori if she could avoid doing so.
And then Julia blew her fuse.
The night it happened everything went downhill. Lori had just been roaming the empty house, bored by her lonesomeness, when she came upon something she had never seen before. A framed picture of a younger Robert and Julia along with a young kid—probably in his early teens—was displayed on a shelf in an unused room of the house. The boy was good looking. A perfect mixture of the best attributes of his parents. Lori knew why Robert and Julia never failed to boast about their son. Kevin had seemed like the kind, intelligent and just perfect son from what his parents had told Lori, but upon seeing that picture, she also knew he was handsome too.
Unconsciously, Lori traced her fingers along the textured frame around the picture. It had to have been dated pre- or early outbreak. The family seemed happy. A perfect family. Something the young girl had never experienced, or at least not in her memory.
The frame was held only loosely between her fingers as she was about to set it back, but then, suddenly, the door behind her opened. The heavy door stopped mid swing as it hit Lori’s back, causing the girl to lose her grip on the frame and it fell down on the floor. The glass of the frame shattered into what felt like a million tiny pieces and Lori felt like she heard each one of them scatter against the rough wooden floors before she heard the high pitched screaming behind her.
“WHAT DID YOU DO?”
Lori barely had any time to turn around before Julia yanked her to the side by her arm. The woman’s thin pointy fingers left small red marks through Lori’s long sleeve shirt.
“My baby—” she sobbed as she fell to her knees next to the broken picture frame. Surely, the pieces of glass had pierced the skin of her knees and legs, but neither Julia or Lori had the time to think about that in the midst of the situation. “You witch!”
Lori had been called many names before, but “witch” was a first. It wasn’t the word that shocked her, but the anger and hatred in Julia’s voice as she said it. “See what you did!” She pointed at the broken frame. “You did this on purpose!”
Lori tried to protest, to say it was an accident, but she wasn’t fast enough. Julia was already yelling again. “You’re ruining my family! You’re trying to tear us apart! You’ll never replace Kevin!”
She kept yelling out those nonsense statements, but Lori knew she believed them. She knew Julia thought that Lori really was trying to tear her family apart. What Julia didn’t know was that Lori already knew her place in this house. She’d never be a daughter to these people, but she had wanted it. She had prayed for it, but she knew it never would be.
Instead of running away, out of the house, Lori ran into her room. She didn’t know how much longer it would be her room for, so she wanted to bask in that warmth for as long as possible. She hid under her blanket as if hiding from Julia and Robert, who she knew wouldn’t be checking in with her anyway. The warmth she had expected to accompany her was not there. Lori fell asleep shivering from cold— no, from the fear of being inevitably kicked out the house and once again being alone, without anyone who cared about her.
-
Joel clicked his tongue in annoyance as he tried to ignore the looming presence behind him. He placed his lips on the edge of his glass of whiskey before downing it in one go. He wished the alcohol would distract him. It didn’t.
With a sigh, Joel sluggishly turned his body in his chair to face the bar. He leaned against the surface with his arms before turning his head slightly to the right. “What?” he grumbled with a roll of his eyes.
A tired, yet nervous laugh pierced Joel’s ears. No, the laugh wasn’t loud, but Joel found it truly unpleasant. “Hey,” the man next to Joel said in an exhale. It was as if he wanted to reason with him. “I guess we have more in common than I first thought.” Joel’s first instinct was to shut him up, yell at him or even just throw up at the thought of him and this man being similar. “Or more than I could wish.” He was speaking to himself now.
“If you don’t have anything coherent to say, then get lost.” Joel’s voice was gruff. No louder than it had been when he addressed the man the first time.
“I don’t know how you were able to take care of that girl for so long,” the man laughed again and Joel felt his stomach churn. Joel didn’t know what he was talking about, but Joel felt that anything that would leave his mouth right now wouldn’t be good. “Lori is impossible,” Robert sighed.
“What are you talking about?”
Robert eyed Joel before shaking his head a few times. “I get why you abandoned her. She’s more than a handful. You know this. I’m surprised you act like this is news.”
Ignoring the jab at him, Joel’s grip on his glass tightened and more questions than answers came to him. “Something happened?”
At his question, Joel noticed a moment of clarity in Robert’s eyes before they became hooded once more. Joel cursed himself knowing that his sudden eagerness to talk, to know what was happening, shut Robert up completely. The scrawnier of the two waved Joel off causing the latter to stand up suddenly and tower over him.
“Joel!” It was Tommy who yelled out for him before waving him over. Joel reluctantly left his glass on the bar, cursing Robert out with his eyes before turning to his brother.
“I thought he’d take care of her?”
Tommy eyed his brother with confused eyes. “What are you talking about?”
It was clear that Tommy didn’t know anything about Lori anymore. Once Robert had taken her in, Tommy pretty much stopped talking to her. All Tommy did was track that his easily aggravated brother was standing over a weaker man who he didn’t like with a clenched fist. He was preventing a bar fight. There was nothing more to it.
“Never mind.” Joel pushed past his brother and left the building.
-
It had been pretty much a full day since the picture incident when Lori was silently navigating the living room. Her eyes were set on the door leading up to Robert’s “office”. It was just a room with a desk and some papers and books. A place where he could prepare some classes for his students. It really was an office, but Lori knew that people pre-outbreak would probably laugh if they saw this “office” of Robert.
Coming up to the door, Lori stopped herself from barging in. She took a few deep breaths, calming her furiously beating heart before knocking on the door softly. She waited for an answer, which did come, in the form of a quiet hum.
The door was heavier than any other door in the house and this wasn’t because Lori was filled with anxiety at the moment. She had made this observation months ago, but yes, at this moment, the door felt heavier than normal.
Once inside she stood next to Robert’s desk. He was facing the wall across the door, his back was towards her at first. Lori stepped in a bit further until she was next to him, though still a little behind him. Not being able to see his face straight on or even from the side—even in this dimly lit room—made Lori feel a bit more in charge of her nerves. Her hands were behind her back, one of them holding something for Robert.
“What are you doing here?” Robert broke the silence first, which is what Lori wanted, but it made her jump. His voice was a lot more rough, cold and distant than she remembered. Even when he came home from long, tiring days at work, there was usually a little lilt in the way he talked. “It’s late, go to bed.”
“I got you this,” Lori whispered. She stretched out her arm, presenting Robert with a rather nice picture frame. “I traded for it earlier—”
“What’s this?” he interrupted her with a clear annoyed tone.
Lori spluttered to fight the surprise and find her words again. “I’m sorry I broke your picture with Ke—”
“DO NOT DARE SAY HIS NAME!” Lori immediately cowered at the sudden rise of Robert’s voice. He never screamed. Not like this. “And do you know what else you broke? Huh? Do you?” he continued to yell as he asked her these questions. Lori shook her head frantically.
“You broke my family! MY family!” At that point, Robert had already stood up and was closing in the gap between him and Lori, driving the young girl toward the wall behind her. He snatched the picture frame out of her hands. “And you know what?” Lori shook her head again, scared that not responding to him would be worse. “You are not part of my family!”
Pieces of glass fell to the floor before either of them had registered what had happened. Lori watched in horror as the side of her face felt numb. Warm blood started to trickle down her temple and down to her cheek. Her eyes looked at Robert’s hand that was holding the picture frame before. It was still there. Partly. Only two of the four sides of the wooden frame were still intact and in his grasp, the remainder of it was scattered on the floor in pieces. Lori looked up at Robert’s face, wishing she’d see any kind of remorse for his actions, but there was only anger. Not long after, Robert hit her a second time with the now broken frame.
Lori fell to the floor, holding her hands up to shield her face. “S-sorry,” she sobbed incoherently. Scared. Terrified. However, Robert couldn’t hear her, or he was ignoring her pleas on purpose.
“You fucking bitch!” he yelled as he kicked her angrily in her side. “You’ve ruined my whole family!”
Lori tried to push the man away. She was able to grip his leg and push it away, but it only made him drop to his knees and punch her on the side of her face. “Nobody fucking wants you! Not Joel! Not Tommy!” He was punching her after each name, though he was mostly missing her and there was no real strength behind his punches. “And definitely not me!”
Robert was sobbing when Julia ran into the room. She wrapped her arms around his shoulders and comforted him as if he was just the victim of an attack. “Get out.” Robbert had tried to sob, but it was Julia who had hissed those words at Lori.
The girl didn’t need to be told twice. She pushed herself up, not even feeling the tiny pieces of glass underneath her palm piercing her skin, and limped out of the room. Luckily Lori had left her backpack with her most important stuff on the living room floor so she could leave immediately. She somehow had a feeling this was how the night was going to end.
Something was off. Joel could just sense it.
As he walked home from his patrol shift he decided to make a quick stop along the way. It was actually his own body that led him to this place unconsciously, but as he stood there and clocked where he was, he felt determined. His heavy fist knocked on the door that almost fully swung open by itself. Joel grabbed the doorknob, stopping the door from opening and waited until the homeowners came and answered themselves.
The whole time during patrol, Joel kept thinking back about what Robert had said the night before at the bar. Robert loved Lori. That’s how Joel knew him. He was the man that took the place Joel wanted to be in. Well, needed to be in. In the months after his last conversation with Lori he slowly came to terms that he had created a distance between himself and Lori. He did want to care for her, but he wasn’t ready to fight all his demons that prevented him from doing so.
It all came so easy with Ellie. Maybe because they were so similar. Still, Joel wondered why he had such a hard time connecting and opening up to Lori. It was probably because Lori was too much like Tess. Possibly—and this was the hardest thing he had to come to terms with—before Lori had turned all stoic—because of Joel—Lori reminded Joel a bit of his own daughter. His actual daughter. Sarah—
Back to Robert. Robert and Lori seemed to get along so well, which is why Joel had been so surprised to hear Robert talking about her like that the day before. Something felt so wrong about it.
“Hi—What are you doing here?”
Joel looked up to see Robert staring back at him. The light-haired man seemed different. His features looked sunken in, his posture was slouched. He looked nothing like the happy teacher everyone knew him as.
“Lori… Just after what you said yesterday. I guess I wanted to check if everything is fine?”
Robert heaved an annoyed breath, but there was something else in his eyes. He almost seemed fearful of Joel, or at least of something. “Everything’s fine.”
It didn’t seem like everything was fine. “Is she here?”
“No she isn’t.” Julia’s voice ringed towards the front door as she moved to stand beside her husband. “She isn’t here, so if you’re looking for her, get lost.”
The aggression in the small woman’s voice made the hairs on Joel’s arms and back of his neck stand up. “Where—”
“Not here!” Julia tried to close the door, but Joel held it open with his forearm. Julia started shouting at him, but Joel didn’t let up. Instead his eyes started to wander. The living room behind the couple seemed normal. It was only when Joel took a step back, he noticed the bruised knuckles of Robert’s right hand. Joel was about to say something when Robert moved his hand behind his back, out of Joel’s vision. “Just leave!” Julia yelled.
“What did you—” Joel started to ask. He had looked from Roberts slightly bloodied—then hidden—hand up his arm until he met his eyes. The fear he thought he saw before was prominent now. Thoughts filled Joel’s head causing to let his guard down and before he could ask his full question, Julia took the opportunity to shut the door closed in his face.
-
“I—” A sob from deep down cut off her words. “I’m so sorry, Tess.” Lori’s voice was shaky. She sat, kneeled down, somewhere quiet. Away from everyone. Not more than a 5 minute walk from Jackson, but at this time she shouldn’t be outside. She had been able to slip away without anyone noticing so she could have some space.
“I know you’d hate me for this,” she cried, but she tried so hard not to. Her voice was strained to keep the sobs at bay. “But I tried so hard to be a good daughter. To be good to people. They just—” Lori took another deep sigh before her tears started to flow freely down her cheeks. “No one wants me. No one likes me. Only you ever truly cared.”
The tension in Lori’s body started to ease as if she was starting to accept the reality of how everything was turning out for her. “I know you’d hate me, but can you really blame me for this?” Lori let out a defeated chuckle, then sniffled once again. “I just want to be with you again,” she whispered before putting a bit more pressure on the knife she had against her left wrist.
The blade only barely broke her skin. It wasn’t sharp enough to do anything more with the amount of pressure Lori was putting on it.
“I only ever want to be with you. Maybe I’m wrong and you are like everyone else, but I rather be with you, who hates me, then with all these people.”
Lori finally drew blood. She didn’t even hiss or flinch as the blade pressed further into her skin. “Tess,” she sobbed as she said her name. “I miss you so much! Why did you leave! Why did you fucking leave me!”
Lori raised the knife from her skin and moved it further up so she could make one final cut.
“LORI, NO!”
The world became dark before her eyes, as Lori fell back onto her back. Before the metal was able to make contact with her wrist, Lori had been pulled back, causing her head to hit the cold ground. Her arm, along with her hand that was holding the knife was pulled back and the knife fell out of her grasp. When Lori opened her eyes again she was met with the frantically moving eyes of Ellie.
“Lori!” The younger girl shouted in shock. She was shaking Lori by her shoulders and checking her body for any injuries. To her surprise Lori’s wrist had barely a cut on it, but her face was something else. Ellie’s eyes scanned the new bruises that seemed to be getting darker by the second on her face. A trail of blood was mixed with Lori’s tears and coated the skin of her cheek and neck with a light, translucent red sheen.
The two sat there almost frozen as they stared at each other before Ellie started pulling her up. “Let’s go—”
“Go where?”
“Home,” Ellie stated, still in her panicked state. She noticed how Lori froze in her spot again and was staring at her, uncertainty filled in her gaze. “Please, Lori. Let’s just go.”
It was desperate. All the words that left Ellie’s mouth. Her movements as she pulled Lori to her feet. As if Lori was someone important to Ellie and Ellie wanted her to be okay.
Ellie gathered Lori’s backpack before pulling her arm over her own shoulders. “You can sleep in my bed. The fireplace has been warming the house. It’s safe there, okay? I can get you food or tea as well. And there’s warm water to shower in. Or you can take a bath…”
Lori didn’t answer, but she let Ellie take her with her.
A few metres away Joel finally found the two girls. He wanted to approach them, but decided against it as he noticed how Lori was so willing to have Ellie help her out. He didn’t want to disturb them.
He was still heaving from his search before he completely froze, hearing what Ellie told Lori.
“I know I’m not Tess, but you’re safe with me. I know you hate me, but even if I’m the last person you wanted to care for you, I do care. Even if the whole world is against you, I’ll be here. And maybe it’s just selfish, but it’s because I need you too.”
Lori tilted her head slightly down to catch Ellie’s gaze. More tears started to roll down her cheeks.
“I think you’re really fucking cool,” Ellie sniffled in a watery chuckle. “And to be honest, I don’t think I would’ve felt as much at ease without you around. You’ve protected me even when you hated my guts and I don’t think I’m ready to lose you. I don’t want you to join Tess this early and I know she wouldn’t want that either.” Lori didn’t say anything as she continued to share eye contact with the younger girl.
“Let’s go home, okay? With me?”

18 years. It had been 18 long years since the night you ran away. The last time you were in your hometown was nearly two decades ago. And now, you are back.
It was so long ago, you barely even remembered the night at all. In your mind, there was just that awful night that resulted in your parents sending you away to learn the discipline they tried to beat into you, mentally and sometimes even physically. The dreadful day you wanted to forget so badly. Remembering that day and the following consequences had a shiver run down your spine. It left you with many scars mentally and you avoided thinking about it.
The school your parents chose for you was a few hours away from your home. It turned out to be an all girls school, run by catholic nuns that would enforce their teaching in only one way. “The way of God“ they always said.
You and all the other young girls had to learn what the nuns taught. The school followed the curriculum like any other school. Mathematics, language arts, science (even if many scientific facts were altered to fit the catholic beliefs), social studies and fine arts. Of course they taught everything from a catholic root and some of the subjects were taught in a very traditional way. Special courses in Bible work and Latin were forced on the students every afternoon. Even the fine arts like music and visual art they kept to a stern regulation. Any indication of „unholyness“ in the themes would be followed by extra bible lessons and hours spent in prayer with the Sister on duty. Nonetheless, your parents would not have sent you here if it were not run by catholic women in service of God. Like all the other girls, you had to obey the many arbitrary rules they set up. If you did not, they made sure you and everyone else were punished in quite severe ways. The nuns could be harsh and unforgiving. One time, a group of girls were found outside after curfew and they had to face the stick and had been locked away for a week.
In the beginning, you had a hard time— but you learned fast and they rarely found you breaking the rules in your later years. That did not mean you just rarely broke them, of course. You just had to be clever about it. Luckily, you were intelligent and learned to maneuvre your way the world. As they say “learn to swim, or you will drown.“ It was hard of course. You honestly tried to be a good girl. You told no lies, and that was when it would become very hard for you to stick to the teachings of the church since the nuns would ask you if they were suspicious of your actions. You always told them half truths. Enough to please them but never telling them nearly enough because that would get you hit with a paddle, your dinner forgone for days and hours of disciplinary work with the nuns to make you find your way back to God. The irony behind their words was never lost on you, only making your and everyone longing for freedom from God stronger.
As a girl, living in a world ruled by men and women acting in service of mankind, you had no say in your future. Your career was chosen long before you could even imagine working at some time in your life. So as soon as you settled into your new school, a nun called Sister Angela would ask you to help her in the infirmary. You were supposed to learn everything from a young age to later become a nurse. Sister Angela was an old and very strict sister. But you found she was actually very kind and warm inside. She was the closest thing you got to a mother figure in your new life so far away from your home. She taught you everything you knew. Everything about the school and the church that ruled over it.
She was very understanding when you were in your teenage years and even helped you once in a while when you were close to facing punishment for not doing your assigned chores in time for the 3rd time in a week. Without her, you might have ended up in a way worse condition than you luckily did. Some nights she was your rock in the waves, supporting you when you needed someone.
Luckily, your new occupation became a passion. You had always been happy to help anyone in need. No matter how. As long as you could help, you would nearly do anything to make other people’s lives easier. A people pleaser. That earned you a lot of praise in the later years from the people in town who got to benefit from your goodhearted nature many times over the years. That was the best feeling in the world — to be appreciated for your work filled you with happiness and it made your heart swell with pride.
After you graduated, you chose to pursue volunteer work on the streets. Helping others in need felt like your calling, and your parents were very happy about it. Working there for a few months gave you time to meet new people, and one day, a man came to you. He explained to you that he was working for a non profit organisation, and if you were interested, he could help you find a job. He would just need to know what your conditions were, and he would try to find a place that would be in dire need of a nurse.
You had been very grateful since you were in need of a job soon anyway. The volunteer work filled you with contentment, but you had to pay bills and your savings were wearing thin. You contacted him and told him that you would like to work somewhere for a church. You told him that you were not too picky, as long as you got your own room.
A few days later, he called you back telling you he found one place that was in desperate need of a nurse and under good conditions as well. It was an old church in a secluded area. They were offering to cover your living expenses, housing, food was inclusive, and they would pay you well enough. One extra perk they offered was that you could take courses in literature or arts for those who liked it. You were pleased to see that the church was located in the very same town you called your home, and since it was a church, you knew your parents would be supporting you to work there. „The Emeritus Church“ was what the guy on the phone said. You‘d never heard of that church before, but you figured it was a place of retired church officials and since you knew the older generation was not fond of electronic devices, you did not think too much of it when you did not find their website mentioned on the list of official catholic churches in your hometown.
You happily accepted the offer and tomorrow was the big day — the day you would start your first day as a nurse in the church.
You stood in front of the train station now. You could no longer live with your parents since they had moved away to another town 40 minutes away and a Sister, Sister Hannah from the Church with whom you had been writing, told you there would be a car to escort you to your new workplace. You were never that nervous in your life. Sister Hannah told you it would be a black Mercedes. She would be there waiting with the driver, and after a short period of time, you spotted a black S-Class rolling into your view.
The car came to halt in front of you and the door on the passenger side opened. A beautiful woman got out of the car. She was about your age you assumed. She wore a black habit and a big smile. As she approached you, the first thing that caught your attention were her shining grey-coloured eyes.
„Hello there. I am Sister Hannah. You might just call me Hannah if you like. You must be our new nurse — and a pretty one at that.“ She started with a warm smile, already fully aware you were the newest member in the ministry. When she stood before you, she extended a hand for you to shake. You smiled at her and took her hand giving her your name.
„It is nice to meet you, Sister Hannah. Yes it is me, I guess.“ you responded with your own smile.
„Wonderful. I am so glad you are here now. Let us not wait for too long here and get your stuff inside the car then. I want to show you a lot today.“
You nodded and began to lift your heavy bags off the ground when Hannah stopped you. „Oh no love don‘t do that I can let the Ghoul carry your stuff you need not to worry about it.“ She was already back at the car speaking to the driver.
You stared at her a bit lost. Did she just call the driver a ghoul? Poor guy might not have an angels face but surely there as no reason to call the poor thing a ghoul was it? Before you could think about it any longer a man opened up the door and walked in your direction. You stared at him wide eyed, not moving an inch when you saw he was actually wearing a silver mask that covered his whole head. The mask had little horns on top and underneath he seemed to wear a black balaclava that covered up his whole face so you could not even see his eyes. Just the mouth was free and he stopped right in front of you, tilting his head to the side.
Sister Hannah was next to you in a heartbeat. „So, this is our new nurse, Swiss. You better behave around her, yeah? Don‘t want me to complain about it to Papa again, right?“
The masked man in front of you turned his head sharply to Sister Hannah at that and just as sharply he looked back at you giving you a big teethy smile, motioning for your bags. You had not realized, but you were holding your bags in a death-like grip. The whole situation was so bizarre.
You gave the odd guy whose name was Swiss your bags. „Oh no, they are quite heavy, you should not carry them all at once.“ He took the heavy bags like they weighed nothing and carried them to the trunk of the car. That was impressive. He did not look like a specifically muscular guy, but you decided to brush it off when Hannah spoke up next to you.
„Perfect, so then let us get going, yeah?“ You followed her to the car and slid into the black soft leather seat behind the passenger where Sister Hannah sat down. The car was very expensive you could tell. The interior was very clean and stylish and the upholstery was not too hard and not too soft. It was very comfortable. This church was very well off you thought.
„So, tomorrow is your first official day, so today we have enough time to get you settled in. I am going to show you around the ministry and maybe we can even get a glimpse of Papa before you officially meet him tomorrow,” She exclaimed, giving you a wink.
„Ah yes that sounds wonderful. I‘d love to see the place and get used to it a bit before I have to put all my energy in the job. But uh..“ you hesitated a bit not sure how you were going to ask her.
Hannah felt your hesitation „Before I forget. Please feel free to ask me anything ok. Or if something is bothering you I am always there with open ears ok?“
You contemplated her words. „Okay uh.. you know, I was just wondering, you mentioned Papa?“ you asked with confusion in your voice.
„Oh you know Papa Emeritus the Third, sweetheart! This is actually his ministry. Even though the Cardinal runs the place mostly. But surely you heard about it.“ Hannah added.
„Uh, no, I actually don‘t know any of these people you‘ve mentioned.“ you muttered.
At that she turned around in her seat, facing you with a questioning look in her eyes.
„Oh you don‘t? I am sorry but how..?“ She contemplated for a bit. „Wait, are you..?“ She stopped mid sentence. „I need to ask you this now. You are a sister of Sin right?“
You locked eyes with her and furrowed your brows. Did she just say ‚Sister of Sin‘? The following silence stretched on for what felt like an eternity. None of you spoke, yet none of you looked away. That silence was only broken when Hannah started laughing out hysterically. „Oh Satan this is good. I mean oh I don‘t mean to be rude but this is probably the funniest thing to happen all year.“ You could not help yourself but start laughing along. Whenever there was something utterly ridiculous you could not stay serious. Doesn‘t matter how significant and bad a situation might be if it was just all too crazy you couldn‘t help yourself.
„Oh my God are you actually serious?“ you giggled.
„I mean, yeah. Ugh, this is so funny.“ she still could not contain her laughter. After a moment she calmed down and began again. „Okay sis, so here is the thing. I will get straight to the point: we are the ministry of Papa Emeritus the Third. I am a declared Sister of Sin and we are worshiping Satan.“
Her words left you speechless. You visibly gulped when you heard her speak of a satanic church. The church you were going to work in. It all left a bitter taste on your tongue and you were uncertain of your choices now. Was it all a bad idea to come here? Should you just run for your life? You were lost and remained still.
She gazed at you unsure of your reaction. „I hope you are not too shocked to hear that your new workplace is literally a satanic church, but I can assure you we are not what you have heard about us. There is no cruelty or sacrificing animals or whatever horror stories are rumored out on the streets. And I deeply hope that you are not going to quit now that you know about our beliefs.“ She begged and looked at you with puppy dog eyes. „I mean, we really need you sister. And we are actually very nice people, you know. I know our reputation is bad, but we believe in equality and justice. Our beliefs are truly well intended and I hope you can at least try and see for yourself, right?“
You just stared at her bewildered, still processing what you‘d heard. You were shocked to hear that. All your life you had only ever heard about them. They perform dark rituals asking for selfish powers. Committing sins, doing the devils deeds, and harming others while doing so. Corrupting every innocent soul out there with immoral beliefs.
But you swore to help others, no matter what side they stood on. Your calling was to help others, and so far, Sister Hannah was actually very kind and nice to you. She made it easy to speak to her and she was very open with you, and you appreciated that. Plus, the offer was just too good not to at least give Satan a chance you thought.
You blinked once or twice, completely overwhelmed with the new piece of information you just got. Hannah waved her hand in front of your face. „Girl, are you still with us? You better not suffer from a heart attack. I don‘t know how to deal with that, you are the nurse and Papa will be mad if I kill our new nurse before she starts her official first day.“
Her words brought you back to the car and Hannah was still looking at you expectantly.
„Ah, well, that really is something new to me, but if you promise me that everyone is nice there and there won‘t be any sacrifices, then I will take a look at your ministry and make my own opinion about it, I guess.“ You decided not to tell her that you were raised strictly catholic. It would only make things more awkward if you did, and since you no longer lived with your parents, you had not practiced your religion as your parents thought you did. In fact, most of the teachings that the nuns and your parents repeated endlessly you did not agree on. They sounded wrong to you and you never understood how in this time so many believed in them. When the nuns told you to always listen to your husband no matter how nonsensical it would be because he was in charge of the woman. When they spoke of God's grace, and yet, he is the one who murdered thousands of innocents just to prove a point or punish one man who did something to anger him. It all made very little sense to you. They were preaching how to be, how to act at all times, that you should always go to church and carry Jesus in your heart. If you did not go to the masses, you‘d face punishment. They forced you and the other girls into a way of living you had not asked for. Of course you could never let anyone know you had doubts. That would only harm yourself more than it could help.
„Oh yes. Thank you. I knew right away you were a good one.“ Hannah cheered. „So now that I know where we stand I should warn you. The ministry probably looks a little intimidating to you. I don‘t know how open you are towards the dark and macabre. We are headed to the woods right now. I know what you are thinking, but really I swear on the Dark One that you have nothing to worry about.“
Tumblr media
The road was heading to the outside of town, nearing the woods as Hannah explained to you. After a few minutes more you arrived at a huge rusty and weathered gate.
The heavy wrought iron gate was opened by another man wearing similar clothing and mask as your driver when you came closer. Behind the bars, you caught a glimpse of a huge dark coloured mansion-like building. Nearing the front gate of the main building, you watched in awe as you took in the massive, dark and brooding facade. The heavy stone bricks and intricate decorations established a gothic look of an aged, magnificent architectural house. Thick spines of ivy crawled up the sides of the stone indicating the old age of the whole construction.
The limousine stopped in front of the door and you finally got out of the car. Sister Hannah and the driver got out, and while Hannah led you to the entrance, the driver went to the trunk, pulling out your bags.
„Welcome to the ministry of Papa Emeritus the Third.“ Hannah announced cheerfully, „Swiss love, could you bring the bags inside? I will be showing our new friend here the grounds so she won‘t get lost tomorrow.“ she beamed at you and grabbed your arm linking hers with yours in the process.
As you walked to the entrance, she started explaining to you about the „chain of command“ in the ministry. „I mean, there is not really a true hierarchy. You are still very free to do whatever you want, and if you don‘t want something, you don‘t have to. But Papa is our highest ranking official, and usually we do what he asks of us. I can promise you that he would never ask you to do something you are not willing to do. He can be considered to be our ‘Pope,’ if you will…just better. Oh, and don’t fret when you see Papa for the first time. He has a uh... how should I say... ‘special’ look.“ she smirked, opening the door.
„So, this is the atrium. From here, you can get basically anywhere in the main building.“ She continued leading you around, starting from the cellar, showing you where the kitchen is located, should you ever feel the need for a late night snack, to the main floor where all the official rooms were placed. All the time she informed you about the happenings and everyday life in the ministry. Everyone was tasked with different assignments. The rotation was usually planned by the Cardinal. As the nurse you would not have to do the housework like the Brothers and Sisters of Sin since your job was far more complicated and important than theirs.
She even showed you around outside. The grounds were huge and beautiful. There was a greenhouse located at the far end of the property. Right next to that a big garden bloomed in the sunlight with pretty flowers. Most of them were dark red and black roses.
„They are Primos favourites,“ Hannah informed you when you stopped to take a closer look. “He is very fond and proud of them. So, you better not pick any, or if you do, you better not get caught.” She winked. “The lovebirds here sneak out at night and do all the nasty, sinful things in the garden, and they like to pick a rose after that as a reminder you see. Primo gets mad every time.” Hannah giggled.
The sun had begun to set and the last warm rays of sunshine warmed your skin. It was a truly magical place. You admired every old stone of the walls, every green leaf and every particle of light that cascaded down to the old walls. But like everything in this world, the day was coming to an end, and Hannah suggested you retire for the day.
“We better get you back inside now. I can show you the rest later if you like, or you could roam around on your own.” With that you both made your way back to the main building.
So far, there was nothing too unsettling about the place. The dark decorations with pentagrams and skulls everywhere would be a bit off putting if deep down you didn‘t appreciate the dark. It was one of your biggest ever secrets, but the dark, mysterious, and morbid interested you. It always had.
You and Hannah stood in front of the staircase now. „So, upstairs are the living quarters of the Brothers and Sisters, and yours would be located at the very end of the hall. I will escort you. You must be tired now, and I don‘t want to overwhelm you more than you already are.“
When you reached the top of the stairs, you saw two figures conversing with each other. One of them wore a white dress shirt under a black coat with a crucifix sewed onto the fabric on the left side of his robe. He was wearing dark dress pants accompanied by black and white shoes. The most significant visual effect he had on you was his face. He wore black and white face paint that made him appear to have a skull like head. His pitch black hair was combed back and his piercing eyes made you breathe in sharply. His left eye was white, in stark contrast to the one on the right, which appeared to be greenish. You stared at him, but he was not as unsettling as you would have imagined him to be.
Your gaze met his mesmerizing eyes as you came closer to him, and he kept his eyes on you this whole time. When both you and Hannah stopped in front of the man, she was the first to speak.
“Good evening Papa,” She bowed her head. “Cardinal?” She turned her head to the second man standing there in greeting.
“This is our new nurse. Picked her up by myself from the train station this morning. I was showing her around our ministry.” Then she turned around to you. “This is Papa Emeritus the Third.” She gestured to the man with the skull make-up and you extended your hand to him.
The hypnotizing man turned his whole body to you now, looking down at your hand and then back up into your eyes, catching your hand in his and bowing down to kiss it, all the while holding eye contact.
“La mia bella signorina. Piacere di conoscerti. You must have been sent by Lucifer himself to grace our insignificant church by your beauty.” He almost purred. “You can call me Terzo, bella.” His deep voice sent pleasant shivers down your spine. He was smooth and elegant in a way you were not prepared for. Especially considering his appearance, you were surprised to be treated so gently.
“Thank you. Papa Terzo,” You responded by giving him your name as well. That earned you a smile from him. You had no idea what the first words he spoke to you meant, but they didn’t sound harsh or distasteful. He gazed at you and kept your hand in his for a moment longer than necessary. This action had you blushing slightly. You were lost in his eyes.
Your moment was interrupted when Sister Hannah spoke up again. “And this is Cardinal Copia.”
The movement on the side broke you out of your daze and you looked to the other man. When your eyes found his, you noted they looked similar to Papa Emeritus the Third’s eyes. The left eye was alabaster, while the right eye was a soft emerald. He also wore black makeup around his eyes. He appeared to be a middle-aged man with sideburns and a pencil mustache above his lips. Scanning his face, you noted that his upper lip was also painted black. He wore a black tight cassock and an accompanying black biretta.
He fidgeted around when your eyes skimmed over his appearance for a moment and you gave him a smile. When you held out your hand to him to shake it, he hesitantly grabbed it and gave it a small shake.
“I am also very pleased to make your acquaintance,” The Cardinal muttered in a low voice, bowing down slightly. He could not hold eye contact while speaking to you, and his movement was a bit awkward. He looked down to his feet and when he came back up, his eyes were back on Terzo.
“Now, if you’d excuse us, our new nurse is very exhausted from the day and would like to retreat to her chambers to get some sleep before she officially starts tomorrow.” Hannah said in a sing-song voice and you two walked to the end of the corridor, vanishing behind the door of your new chambers.
“What a pretty flower. Satan must be very pleased with us, don't you think Cardinal?” Terzo rejoiced. “I just fear that our dear brothers and sisters will fake injuries now or intentionally hurt themselves to have her take care of them, sí?” He laughed.
Copia just nodded his head in response, stunned by the beauty of you. His head was going to be occupied by your gorgeous smile for a while. He could not help himself. Something about you seemed so familiar, but he could not pin it down and decided to brush it off for now since Terzo was still waiting for his answer on whether he was getting his mini fridge or not.
You and Sister Hannah entered your new quarters. The room was not outstanding in size or decoration but occupied everything you needed. In fact, you had some extras granted to you that the regular brothers and sisters did not have. First, you got your own rooms that you did not have to share with anyone. Your bed was significantly bigger than usual and you had your own bathroom.
“Oh my lord, you are such a lucky girl.” Hannah squealed right after she closed the door behind you. “You just met Papa, and oh Satan, isn’t he just wonderful?” She swooned. “You made me a little jealous there, not gonna lie to you. But let me warn you. Papa is very flirtatious. You shouldn’t let him get to you too much. Unless you are down for it, of course. Then ignore what I said.” She smiled. “He is very horny too, so I am just trying to inform you before you find out the hard way.” After a moment she realized how that sounded. “Oh, not that he would force himself on you, or whatever, no but his innuendos are very straightforward sometimes. I reckon that can be quite shocking.”
You sighed, plopping down on the bed. “Oh my God, this is all so much to process I feel like my brain is going to explode.” You were still very much in a state of shock and wonder. The whole thing was just so ridiculous. At some point, you thought it was all a dream, and when you woke up none of this would be real. But you knew better and this place just felt far too real. Not even your messed up mind could conjure such an odd scenario.
“Oh sis, I understand. I will leave you to yourself then. Have a good night's rest. I will pick you up tomorrow at 7. Your clothing should be in the wardrobe over there. And I think you’ll get by here in your chambers just fine, yeah?” She was already out the door when she stuck her head back inside. “By the way, sis, I am very glad you are here.” She gave you a soft, sincere smile and closed the door.
You decided to relax for the rest of the evening. After spending about ten more minutes on your bed contemplating everything that happened in the past few hours, you got up and started unpacking the necessary items from your bags. After all, you were not sure if this place was for you. Your friends would give you questioning looks if you told them where you worked, your parents would be mortified. You let out a laugh imagining them coming to the ministry with crucifixes and bottles of holy water to cleanse this place and rescue their sweet little child. No, you could never tell them.
You prepared everything for tomorrow and went to bed with a book to ease your mind. Tomorrow was going to be an eventful day.

Tw: Targ!cest (Twincest), SPOILERS from the book, suicide by jumping off a tower, angst but with a happy ending
Author’s note: I haven’t really seen Helaena x reader stuff, so I thought why not write this. Sorry that its sad.
Ever since birth you were inseparable, if split, you both would cry non stop until you had found each other’s comfort. Growing up you two practically read each other’s mind, you knew what the other was thinking or feeling, you also felt each other’s feelings.
Helaena had grown found of bugs, while you had grown found of flowers. She studied bugs while you studied the languge of flowers. You both also shared a bed chamber even a bed. You both would hold one another as you slept, you would also see each other’s dreams.Your dragons had also hatched at the same time, hers being blue named Dreamfyre and yours being white named Moonfyre.
When your sister had grown of age, she was engaged to your older brother Aegon, this match made by your mother. Since the day they wed you stopped sharing a chamber, you were now on your own. You felt as if your sister was ripped from you due to this marriage, now she had to bare heirs.
The wedding night, her now brother-husband was passed out drunk and did not perform his husband duty. Helaena had sneaked into your bed chamber’s that night, and that same night you both had taken each other’s maidenheads. You were both happy that you took each other's purity. You had also claimed that she is your Helaena, and your Helaena alone.
Then you began to give her flowers everyday, Helaena used her flowers for her bugs in which she believed that the flowers would make them happy in way. Daisies would be often left in her new bed chamber's, along with others such as Gladiolus, Lilies, Stock, and Irises.
When your niece and nephews had come into the world, you were the one to hold them, they were precious like their beautiful mother. Then again your sister had fallen with child again, you were the first one to find out, how? That whole week you had been feeling sick, until it was confirmed that your sister was with child.
A few years past, you and your sister had grown closer, even more now that the war was approaching. Your sister was now Queen consort, she deserved being Queen, she deserved it better than anyone. Then it happened.
Her child had been murdered, and she was forced to watch him die. She had grown depressed, not leaving her bed chamber’s at all, nor ate, drank, or showered. It hurt you, you had also stopped eating and drinking, if she had to suffer, you would suffer with her.
When she found out that her other son was dead, she could no longer take it. That day you went to see her, you wanted to prevent her from doing something foolish but she had a different plan.
“Y/n, lets go, lets leave this awful world, no one understand us, they will never understand us, please, don’t leave me” Helaena begged you, she was in distress, she suffered so badly, all she wanted was to live a peaceful life, a peaceful life with you. It conflicted you but you agreed.
You both walked to the balcony and stood on the rail, looking down at how high it was. She then held your hand in comfort, you exchange one final smile and jumped. Both bodies fell into the spikes down bellow, but down those spikes was a bed of flowers, those flowers being daisies, which were being pollinated by bees.
You had Helaena laying on your chest, it was almost like that night you spent together for the first time. Both hearts being pierced by the same spike, both your blood being now covering the flowers. You had been found by your mother, she was distraught, seen that her two daughters had jumped off the tower to their death. You were both wrapped and burned together.
When you had woken up, you saw some kind of paradise, it was like a forest, filled with bugs, bees, flowers and trees. You looked over and saw your sister reaching out her hand to you. You had ran to her and pulled her into a tight hug, then a loving kiss. “Helaena, My Helaena” you said happy, finally being able to live together in peace.

Kyan Reki x Reader (selfship)
Tumblr media
Selfship made for Miya_Kamiya-Sawyer on Wattpad.
Friendly reminder that English is not my first languge. You can check my Masterlists both in English and Polish here.
⇝ Your story began thanks to your mothers. You are a classic example: "Friends to Lovers".
Your parents met during their school years and since then they have been friends for many years. Even when they were pregnant, they imagined that their children absolutely needed to get to know each other and spend time together. That's why, as soon as you got a little older, they took you everywhere together. You even have a picture of you lying in the stroller, kicking each other. Holiday trips were also an absolute minimum, which is why a lot of space in the album is also taken up by such photos. You usually make silly faces at them or do something weird. Reki to this day reminds you how you wanted to stuff his cheeks with sand cake (but made of real sand...) and he cried.
⇝ You went to the same schools until high school. After that, your educational paths diverged. Despite this, you still meet, just a little less frequently. In elementary school, the girls always marveled at the fact that you called Reki by his first name. He added -chan to your name and friends used to joke that you two were in love.
⇝ The boy admires your love for dancing. Many times he tried to translate this sport into skateboarding. Unfortunately, he didn't quite succeed. He doesn't mind if you teach him some hip-hop moves, he finds them extremely cool. And you can count on him to come to every show you have. One time your family didn't arrive in time because of traffic jams. He was in a car with them but seeing what was happening, he pulled a board from his backpack and avoided the  other cars. Out of breath, he burst in, just in time for your turn. He whistled loudly in front of all the spectators to let you know he was there.
⇝ Your support for him on S is a bit more complicated. After all, this is not a completely safe place. If you come to his contest, you always try to be with someone. Shadow softens and usually lets you go with him. At the races, you usually stick to the quiet Cherry or Snow.
⇝ Reki is your rock when school overwhelms you. He's not a great student himself but he knows your high school cares a bit more about grades, so when you're down, he's ready to cheer you up right away. He'll take your books from under your nose if he thinks you're studying too much. He regularly reminds you that results are not everything and sees your hard work.
⇝ You are perfectly capable of recognizing when Kyan loses his good mood. He tends to pretend that everything is fine. You have to force him to tell you what's on his mind. You always buy him a box of ice cream and eat it together on one of the surrounding walls. It's enough for him to tell you what's bothering him.
⇝ You often compliment him because you know he has low self-esteem issues. He turns red immediately.
⇝ You and Reki have never seen each other in terms of brother/sister. Despite being so close since childhood, love has developed between you since elementary school. Your problem was that you were too blind to the other's feelings and feared the friendzone.
For the boy, the moment of awakening was the wiles of his sisters. One time he was supposed to take care of them and suddenly they disappeared until he found them next door to you. They also used to get hold of his phone and send you hearts or love poems. It embarrassed him terribly and he always apologized afterwards. Until a few days ago, he'd come to the conclusion that they were right, because that's how he felt.
⇝ That's why he figured out with Langa's help that he'd invite you to your favourite amusement park. He was terribly stressed. So much so that he couldn't do much. He was going to win you a stuffed animal at the shooting range but you did it for him. At the end of the day, he almost wanted to give up the confession. Especially when he saw some other boy talking to you. However, you walked away from the stranger and found that compared to Kyan, he was hopeless. This gave him the courage he needed to take off his hoodie and cover you with it, then tell you how he felt. Now with a beating heart he is awaiting for your answer.

Sorry, my tumblr has been weird, so if there are multiple of these matchup asks, then I am sorry, and please post the anonymous most recent one. Hope I didn't glitch my way into filling your inbox.
Heyo! Can I please have a matchup for Hazbin hotel and Romantic <3. I am a heteroromatic asexual who mostly idetifies as a woman. I am 5'5'', but I look tall for my stature. I'm just lanky. I have a willowy slightly toned build with long wavy brown hair that goes to my butt. I like wearing outdoorsy clothes (jeans, hiking boots, tank tops, etc.), but can dress up when need be. I love the outdoors and get antsy if I don't spend enough time outside. I like hiking, biking, kayaking, etc.). I just love being outside and also learning about it. I study geology and love learning about human history too. I just like learning about the world through a varaity of lenses. I also love music and it's hard to say what I like since there is so much. Because of Hazbin Hotel getting into early 20th century music, and I am even being trained and taking classes on radio braodcasting because of the show on top of my regular classes and my job. On that note I am not a homebody and can spend time at home, but I generally feel unfulfilled or even guilty if I spend the whole day at home. I like doing things, and keeping myself stimulated even if I have a tendency to bite off more than I can chew. Better than being bored. When I am at home I usually cook, clean, or work on a hobby. I love cooking and baking! I also love drawing painting, and even making spooky costumes. I just like self expression. This is hard to balance with all the time I spend running around outside, but I make it work. I am am a bit of a writer, but naturally need more practice. However, I do enjoy both fiction and nonfiction, since I write about science and history. I would also like to read more, but I sometimes get so busy by the time bedtime rolls around I am too tired to read before bed. It's something to work on. I am currently reading some Agatha Christie novels along woth a horror collection currated by Alfred Hitchcock. If the length of this message is any evidence, I am VERY chatty. I am quite social, but very work and goal orientied, so can buckle down and do my work if need be when if I just want to socialize. I also don't 100% have a type, but as a total dork I enjoy my dorks (which that's a majority of male character in Hazbin if you ask me, so that narrows down nothing). However, I have learned from my own dating history I struggle with quite types. I am chatty but hate being the lone speaker in a conversation. I need someone who will talk with me, not someone quite who just listens. Listening is important, but I need active listening. I honestly just want a best friend to be fun and goofy with that I also can kiss and cuddle. For love language I oscillate between quality time, acts of service, and words of affirmation. I enjoy them all but these are the once I love the most. I also am willing to love my partner in the way that fits their needs and prefered love languge the most even if it takes some time to learn.
Also, please don't pair me with Vox. If I had a nickle for everytime he has been present in my nightmares, I would have 2 nickles, which isn't alot, but it's weird that it happened twice. Honestly, no idea why. I don't even have nightmares very often. It's been like 4 over 1.5 years and Vox was in 2. Good for him.
okay, this one was actually difficult with the lack of characters in hazbin, but I've got it! so, without further ado anon,
the character I chose for you is...
ALASTOR!!!
Tumblr media
(i know he's aromantic and i respect that with all of my heart and soul just wanted to put it here for my aro community <333)
perfect that you're asexual because he is too!
he would love to listen to you
this man lives off of entertainment, so he would be 100% listening to you all the time
even if it's boring, he still finds it to be entertaining lmaooo
he also loves that you're doing broadcasting classes
would help you out 100%
he would fall for you 10x harder if you cook him something
he's a mamma's boy, so food is his love language ngl
he would read horror books with you while old tunes play in the background
y'all would have tea time, so you spill everything and he spills everything
you two are constantly telling stories and actively engaging in conversation with each other
every time someone comes into the hotel, they just find the two of you talking
you honestly can't get enough of each other
you two definitely cook together and while you're waiting for whatever is in the oven, he will pull you into his arms and sway with you in the kitchen
You smiled, satisfied with how the cake you made came out. Now all it had to do was cool before you put the icing on it.
You leaned against the counter and racked your knuckles as you heard Alastor walk in, humming some tune.
"Hi Al!" You smiled and pointed to the cake on the counter.
"By god! It looks great, doll!" He grinned that wide smile that you couldnt help but love.
"I still have to put icing on it, but it's cooling."
"Perfect! Then we have some time!"
"Time? Time for wha-"
You were quickly interrupted as Alastor pulled you into his arms, twirling you before placing his hands on your hips with a smile. "You look beautiful, darling."
You blushed and wrapped your hands around the back of his neck. "S-Stop it."
"Never." He placed a kiss on your forehead as the both of you waited for the cake to finish cooling off.

Okay, but how does telepathy work?
Because it’s implied that any telepath can understand anyone’s mind. But that’s impossible. Sophie says she heard the thoughts of everyone around her. But according to studies some people think in pictures, or 3D, or any other number of things.(is it true? i don’t know, i have an internal monologue)
So does it automatically translate to how the telepath thinks? What about going into someone’s mind? What if Keefe’s mind is like that because he thinks in pictures. My memories always seem more like book interactions then actual things written out.
Is it possible that Sophie, who I’m pretty sire has an internal monologue, thinks differently from Keefe, Mr. Forkle and even Fitz?
Do most elves think the exact same way? Do all elves think in monologues or pictures?
Also, what about the other species. When Sophie broke into Dimitar’s mind is there a chance that she wouldn’t have been able to understand what he was thinking anyway?
And why does Silveny project elven words into her mind at all? Thinking in words isn’t a sign you’re humanoid? Why doesn’t Silveny think in whatever the Alicorn languge is, or in a completely different format. Maybe soley pictures instead of a combination. Is that why her speech is so rudimentory is Sophie’s mind
Sorry about the rant. I spend an unnecessary amount of time thinking about mind reading.
I think the telepath sees the mind as how it is. For example, Sophie heard her human mother's thoughts as words, so maybe she has an internal monologue. And as you mention, she sees images in Keefe's mind, so he might think in pictures, which makes sense because he's an artist. Fintan's mind has a lot of warmth and sharpness and tactile feelings and very few images, so he probably thinks that way.
And Sophie also sees Cassius's mind as he's organized it, in the form of the library.
So yes—it is likely that all elves think differently and that telepaths experience minds in the same way as the owners do.
I think Sophie would understand most minds because she's a polyglot too, but if an ogre or someone thinks mostly in words and a telepath doesn't speak their language, it might be a little more difficult. Though I'd guess that there would be enough images and intent and emotions there to piece it all together partially. This is probably why Sophie struggles to read the minds of animals—she's not a skilled enough polyglot to understand animal language, so she has to rely on emotions and images.
That actually is canonically the reason for her speech being rudimentary! She learned the elven language from Sophie. For example, Sophie used the word "friend" a few times, and Silveny learned it and used it in response. She does speak to Sophie in the alicorn language once—that's how she told Sophie her name—but in general, she uses emotions, pictures, and the few words she's picked up from Sophie. My guess is that the alicorn language just isn't complex enough to use effectively, or that Silveny doesn't know it well enough.

WELCOME TO EMBERS HIGH!
CLOCKING IN...!
The language department has a new student teacher and it's none other than absolute legend FAVA THORNEWOOD!
Known for her savage skills on the field, Fava was able to lead her team to victory her senior year of high school. That's right, that state championship banner hung up in the gym is all because of her tough love and pep talks. She received multiple scholarship opportunities for soccer, but decided to stay close to home in order to help take care of her younger sister, Wren.
She is getting all of her general education studies out of the way first, but she plans on majoring in American Sign Languge in the hopes that she'll be able to secure a position as an intrepreter / translator for public events. Or concerts. That would be really rad, wouldn't it?
WHERE YOU CAN FIND HER: walking around outside for fresh air a break from all of the questions // drinking hot tea in the library in between classes // hanging in the teacher's lounge, hoping a certain someone asks her if they want to go over homework for one of their college courses // asking the nurse for another round of ibuprofen because, yes, she does -- in fact -- still have that headache // chilling in her car during lunch break, certainly blasting music and catching up on all kinds of teacher gossip
WHAT IT’S LIKE IN THE CLASSROOM: honestly more chill than you'd expect // fava is really dedicated to helping these students learn the beauty of sign language // she also tries to make it fun lbr // she is constantly remind people to keep their eyes up though & that she can definitely see them when they're texting and not paying attention // honestly fava is the kind of teacher that won't let cell phones be in her class lol she'll keep them at her desk until class is over // this is a visual thing people!! visual !! // fava is probably anti-homework tbh??? but she will give them videos to watch and quiz them to make sure they watched the videos // but they'll be fun one okay lol she'll try to make them fun
WHERE SHE IS AFTER SCHOOL: home // no, seriously, she spends a lot of time at home because her mom is kind of an absent mother // she also spends as much time outside as she can because she likes being in nature, okay? she finds it relaxing // so if you wanna hang out with her and really get to know her you better take her on a walk gdi // she also probably spends a lot of time in cafes because it's free wifi and removed from all family drama so that's her favorite place to get some work done // and the local library (even though she's not very good at being quiet lol and is often shushed) // it's also important to note that she has a hognose snake that she absolutely adores and her name is iris

Some unforeseeable circumstances forced me to have a very long car ride with a british professor my mom knows . I talked to him about ancient greece and about what a beutiful languge it is , he talked to me about plato and Aristotle and democracy, i told him about what little philosophy i know , about how much i love linguistics and he shared with me how wondefull he finds learning new languges . Ive been having second thought about what university to ( try to ) go to and i haven't been more convinced i want to study history and linguistics more
