Hi, my dear study-blr community.
Long time, no see! I am sorry I disappeared, but I have been recovering from the previous semester which was a complete disaster -academically speaking-, but I am back.
I lost my three precious habits during November-December: journaling, meditating, and exercising. I thought I could manage my study time and productivity better if I studied more hours. I was wrong.
My grades are absolute trash compared to the effort and the hours invested in study sessions. That is the reason which led me to:
Take back my wellness habits and make them a priority.
Enjoy time outside with my partner.
Study smarter and taking scheduled breaks.
I hope you guys are doing better than me. In the pictures you see above I am reflecting on how to manage time, track my habits, the journaling sacred time, and also the beauty of the city where I live.
Enjoy your day, study efficiently and be blessed.

I haven't been regularly updating my blog, and blame it to my poor time management. There's a saying that goes "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" and I wholeheartedly believe in that. Personally, I strongly dislike spending an entire day with books and only getting done 10% of the work and I did not change my learning pattern because I was kind of told all my life that if you study more, you will retain more, which in most of the cases is not true. I didn't know how to change this until I stumbled upon a video where Professor Lobdell explains precisely how to achieve a better balance and effective studying without spending long hours.
Let me take on this challenge where I maintain my study-work balance effectively. I know I won't be seeing mind - boggling results the day after but I want to improve.
If you want to join this challenge where you maintain your study-work balance too, don't forget to tag me with "#unicolab productivity challenge". That'll help us keep each other motivated.

study technique : blurting 🌷
Sometimes things that i’ve been memorising just doesn’t stick in. So, I’ll be sharing with you how I utilise the blurting method effectively to memorise things! The tips i’ll be sharing are like none i’ve ever seen before so def consider reading this!
Tumblr media
Note: Blurting has many purposes, such as to understand material, but in this post, i’ll be covering specifically how I use it to memorise. Let me know if you’d like a post on other ways I use it!
Firstly, here’s the materials you’ll need:
Paper
Pens of at least two different colours
Highlighter
Post-it notes
⭐️[Now, here’s the steps] ⭐️
1. Divide
Write down the topics you want to cover on different sections on the paper
Divide the topics further into subtopics
The key to this step is to be specific!
This way, you’ll be able to tell exactly which parts you need to memorise further
Write these headings out with a thicker pen/ highlighter so you can refer to it easily
2. Blurt
Write down every thing you know
Squish your brain dry of every last once of knowledge there is 💪
3. Review
Write down everything that you missed with a pen of a different colour
Highlight important concept/ideas you want to reinforce
Using sticky notes, write down the topics you don’t know , but phrase it in the form of questions
eg. why are leaves broad in the tropical rainforest if you don’t know the adaptations of leaves in the tropical rainforest
4. Revise
Paste the sticky notes over the areas where you’ve written incorrect information or have written nothing
Answer those questions
Check the answers by lifting the sticky notes up
When you can answer everything, you can take the sticky notes off and revise the paper as it is
Easily check topics which you’ve gotten wrong before by reading the coloured answers
Easily check important concepts/ideas by reading highlighted parts
The end.
I hope this helped you! Feel free to ask for specific study tips! 🌸

just finished studying for today. as predicted, i didnt manage to do everything, let alone get a headstart on tomorrow's stuff.
i finished my second section of independent study for business studies, as well as doing a case study on the maasai for society and culture and finishing yesterdays work for legal studies. i didn't get up to my case study for ancient history, or writing the snippet, so hopefully ill be able to get to those this week.
in other news, i have decided i want to go to either cambridge or oxford university, though, i have no idea how to convince my parents to let me move to another country for uni. so there's that problem, but, hopefully i can get good enough marks to be accepted there.

Day 2-3 efficient productivity challenge
About yesterday.
I went to the library before classes. I managed to stay focused for one hour and a half. I revised my surgical flashcards and made new ones for radiology. I arrived home all wet due to the heavy rain. I had lentils for lunch and discovered a new video of Nazareth Castellanos, whom I admire. It was about the position of the body and the interoceptive neuronal network and how it influences the way we think, learn, and live.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
About today. Another rainy day but I came to the university for classes and I am ready for an efficient study session.
How are you guys managing this semester? Remember: strive for progress, not perfection.
Sending you all much love and support! We can do this!

Was working on physics this evening , it was kinematics , didn't get anything done , I got demotivated because I couldn't solve problems , not even a single one. In fact , I couldn't even solve the basic problems , problems based on theories which took me a lot of time to learn . On top of I got a bad headache today , my thinking capacity was cos 90° . But it's fine and understandable , yesterday I was having my up , I solved a few questions and they were correct . Today was my down , I got demotivated but I will not let today take over my tomorrow . I will start the entire chapter again , solve the basic problems and then move forward .
Helpful advice :
This really is a lesson , when I learned those theories/topics , I was in a hurry to complete , I did not understand the concept , numericals deeply and didn't even solve solved questions that time . Coz of lack of revision and only surface-level knowledge led me having obstacles in the long run . i wasn't able to solve the basics , I got stuck further . So please guys , don't be in a hurry when you're studying , don't let the anxiety of staying behind and " BEING SLOW " take over you. Please study efficiently , you can say you studied for 8 hours or so , but think , did you really understand what you learned or were you just watching the lecture hoping for it to end quickly .It's ok to be slow , the more you learn to study in your own speed , the more you will learn about yourself + it will help you in the long run ( when you revise for test/exam). You will remember better , coz you efficiently studied the topic/chapter , solved numerous questions , so you know the approach to it . A quick flash revision of that topic/chapter will give you your best results .
Thanks for coming to my bed talk , yes it's past midnight , here I am reflecting about my day . Take care ! Hope you have a great day !Keep studying ! Bye !

Pomodoro: when you shouldn't use it and alternatives
I’m sure many of us have tried (and failed) using the pomodoro method. Here is why I dislike using it and what kind of people should avoid it!
Tumblr media
Why I dislike this method
You’ve just tried out this awesome new technique everyone is talking about, but it doesn’t work for you. It’s the pomodoro technique, where you rest for 1/5 the time you study. The most common structure is studying for 25 minutes and resting for 5.
When you try the 25/5 method, you take 5 minutes to focus, so you only end up doing work for 20 minutes. It’s not nearly enough time. You also know you’ll be breaking your concentration when you stand up to have a break. It just isn’t worth it for 20 minutes of work.
And when you try longer variations, like the 50/10 you get too distracted during the breaks.
“It’s 5 already?”
From my personal experience, the pomodoro method is not for:
People who take longer to concentrate
People who get distracted easily
People who have a lot of work to complete in a short amount of time
There are a lot of other alternatives to the pomodoro method for these people:
Flow time and time blocking are great alteratives.
For flow time, you have to grab on to the flow and work and work and don’t stop.
For time blocking, you have to separate your day into different blocks for different activities.
I hope this helped you! Feel free to ask for specific study tips! ❤️
