I LOVE Excel! I took an Excel class during University and I've never stopped using or learning about it since. During my summer internship, I would literally use Excel functions and macros for hours every single day. Even if you don't want to be an Excel fanatic, learning a few basic functions will make your life easier (and even impress a few managers along the way!).

I've outlined below some of the most useful Excel functions to learn. Some of these functions are very basic but can make a huge difference. These functions save time, automate procedures, and make your life easier! And if you need some help on how to learn them, I've listed some helpful resources to get you started. With all of us social distancing at home, now is as good of a time as any to add a skill to your resume.

Excel Functions to Know:

SUM: returns sum of cells selected

SUMPRODUCT: multiplies ranges or arrays together and returns the sum of product

IF: return one value for a TRUE result and another for a FALSE result

SUMIF: returns the sum of cells if the cell meets a single condition

AVERAGEIF: computes the average of the numbers in a range that meets a certain criteria

VLOOKUP: lookup and retrieve data from a specific column in a table can be exact or approximate match

LEFT: returns a given number of characters from the left side of text string

RIGHT: returns a given number of characters from the right side of text string

CONCATENATE: joins the text of cells together and returns the joined text in one cell

LENGTH: returns the given number of characters in a text

Resources:

Excel Jet: Very useful as a type of Excel dictionary to look up syntax and specific formulas you don't know

Excel Easy: almost like on online textbook for Excel (great resource for those who have no knowledge of Excel at all!)

Udemy: paid excel course with lots of videos, assignments, and downloadable resources

Coursera: self-paced learning option, quizzes and assignments, and a course certificate

Excel Youtube Course by Technology for Teachers and Students

Why hello everyone! This is my brand new studyblr! (And third or fourth introduction.) I’m originally @mystic-musicblr, which was my sideblog, but I’ve decided to move my studyblr into a separate blog so I can do a bit more with the blog. I also apologize for tumblr destroying the quality of my banner that isn’t the best, it looks better trust me. Tumblr just sucks.

Anyway, onto the introduction!

✨Lil about/basics ✨

✨I’m Hayden (they/them, but if you refer to me as she/her I don’t care. I’m not too picky)

✨I’m an only child, a Cancer (♋️) and left handed. So I understand the struggle of writing and trying to write on the iPad (digital notes are so hard 😭)

✨ I play 4 instruments - violin, viola, clarinet, and bass clarinet.

✨ I love to draw a lot. My icon is the start of an old piece I did last year, but never got around to finishing it, so it’s temporary for right now.

🎻University info🎻

🎻 I’m a sophomore this upcoming year first generation student and an alternate resident assistance for the 2020-2021 year.

🎻 My major is music industry, with my emphasizes/area in multi-instrumental that I’m struggling to change to applied for violin (really wish I could do viola but it’s out of my hands for now as I don’t have a viola)

🎻 This upcoming semester I’m not overloading myself too much with classes, only with 16 credits, so I won’t die under the pressure of what I did this past semester (spring 2020) with 18 credits 😅😭. Though thanks to switching to online classes, I actually passed my spring semester that greatly brought my GPA up so I was happy and proud of myself for being able to do 18 credits despite the transition into having more online classes. Plus, three of my classes are online this semester (WVU is making a lot of classes hybrid and/or fully online since they are limiting sizes in classrooms to make sure we don’t spread COVID-19 around.), so I should be good.

🎻I really wish I could minor in French or History, yet I can’t really afford it, don’t have time, or room to do it, which really sucks. The arts do take up a lot of your time and to people who can do double majors or minors in certain majors that demand a lot, you get major props. Maybe one day when I do graduate I’ll minor in French or History.

🎻 I’m a member of my universities student run record label and it’s pretty great.

🌼Studyblr/Uni goals for this year🌼

🌼 Be active on here, whether school is still online or in class

🌼 Not focus too much on the aesthetic demands of studyblr. I feel like that really hinders me posting a lot and frankly I believe that the aesthetic demands of studyblr really bring down the community next to multiple factors I could explain in a long post or video.

🌼Be able to priorities my classes and work in between RA work and having fun.

🌼Have fun. Literally.

🌼Start a queue on here for reblogged post and make original content more frequently.

🌼Join and create challenges

🌼Create more personal goals for myself

🌼Create more art! I actually am going to try to do YouTube this summer since I need to work on my editing skills and I want to draw and do music more, so that will help with all of that. Along with creating fun videos here and here while making some videos critiquing stuff I like.

30. what is going to be your philosophy going into this year?

I went through some messy major switching freshman year and didn’t really enjoy any of my classes (so motivation was super low). my philosophy going into this year is to start truly enjoy learning and be more involved in my new major to make up for lost time !!!

Hey guysssss. Sorry I’ve been so quiet on here these past couple of days. Essentially, I’m doing my biology coursework in one day (why did I do IB? 😭) because I’ve been writing a proposal for my school to raise more racial and cultural awareness and increasing ethnic inclusivity 🥰. Ahhhhh, I’m so excited because I thought my prefect team would be so against it but they all for it which is nice.

Also, I got my report yesterday. It’s not bad but I’m annoyed that it could’ve been better if my teachers didn’t cap my point score and we’re more honest with their feedback. My French teacher said my speaking wasn’t that good but he gave me 20/24 on my last speaking (a couple of weeks ago) and told me it was great? I’m a bit confuzzled because why is 2+2=5 please? 😭 Anyways, that’s left me feeling lowkey gutted but I know that the only grades that really matter are my UCAS predicted grades for uni and the ones on my actual diploma.

Fun fact: I really want a bullet journal again. I tried to keep one before but I like keeping all my tasks in one place so I can get an overview and yeah, it just didn’t work. But I found discbound bullet journals and I’m in love 😍. I want one. And I want to go completely analogue with my planning and most of my documents and project planning etc. If you’ve known me before this studyblr, you know that I’m always switching up my organisation system and now I’m tired of digital 🤧. I’m blaming studyblrs for my new found interest 😂.

So as you can see, I have been being productive, I promise, I just haven’t been documenting it!

Now, time for @myhoneststudyblr ‘s Summer Studying Challenge (and congratulations for 15k followers, Sophie - how awesome is that?! 🥰🎉❤️)

DAY 2: Have your plans changed at all because of the pandemic?

Well, right now I’m meant to be packing for a flight to Morocco to go and starve and hike in the mountains for 4 days so yeah, I guess my plans have changed 😭. My other plans though? Not really. Just relaxing, working on projects, studying and just improving my self and my life as it is right now.

DAY 3: Do you have a specific goal for this summer?

Honestly, I just need to finally get my life organised. I think it’s because I’m such a conceptual learner but I can’t just have a to do list and some goals written down (which there’s obviously nothing wrong with). I need to have an understanding of how I’m actually spending my time and why that is and how I’m improving myself whilst still living the life I have right now being the best version of myself right now. As you probably can tell in my post about how to study for uni exams, I like almost a formulaic approach to things so I can play around with it after. Kind of vague but I’m working with it and once I’ve got that down, I’ll happily share it ☺️.

Andddddd QOTD: How do you organise your life?

As you can probably see, I don’t 😭. But that is all about to change. I’ve used Notion (which I liked) and right now I’m using a combo of apps (Things 3, Fabulous, Done, Notebook etc.) but I’ve decided I’m switching to an analogue bullet journal. Let’s see how long this will last 🤧.

INTERESTS

competitive dancer: i got my Junior Diploma in Kathak a while ago and I have given the exam for 3rd year, I also love doing Contemporary, Freestyle and Hip-hop. (Binge watching Ballet and Ice-Dancing {i miss tessa and scott} videos is one of my favourite past times)

Music: I absolutely love listening to music and some of my favourite genres are Classical, pop, rap, indie rock and alternative. Some favourite artists are Hozier, Eminem, Lana Del Rey, Tchaikovsky, Machine Gun Kelly, Arctic Monkeys, I’ve really fallen in love with Girl In Red.

WHY A STUDYBLR?

Honestly, I love the studyblr community and learning, in general.

I have boards in 2021 (country-wide exams that are integral for final years of high school), so I felt that a Studyblr would be a good way for me to make sure i stay on track.

To, Hopefully, increase my productivity and overall output of work.

As I’ve mentioned before, It makes me feel way more accountable.

FUTURE GOALS

I would possibly like to start the 100 days of productivity challenge a few weeks later.

I hope that this blog helps me with my procrastination.

I’m a new studyblr! (Q&A)

Q: Who are you and what are you studying? A: I am a 19-year-old Finnish IB graduate and I’m currently enjoying my gap year after high school. I’m self studying biology, mathematics, physics and chemistry while working at a local grocery store and practicing cheerleading.

Q: What are subjects did you take in the IB? A: HL math, physics and English B, SL Finnish A, chemistry and economics.

Q: What are your plans for college/uni? A: I want to study dental studies and become a dentist.

Q: Wait, that’s a medical school and you haven’t studied bio... how are you going to get in? A: My plan is to take national matriculation exams (regular high school final exams in Finland) on bio, physics, maths and chemistry because that will make applying for college much easier and straight-forward. That’s also partly the reason why I created this studyblr: to stay on track of what I’ve studied and to update my progress.

Q: What else do you do besides studying? A: I’m also a competitive cheerleader, I like to read, play the violin, learn Dutch, bake and cook food and take photos.

Q: What are your current goals? A: - get into college by 2023 - save money for my own house and buy my first home by 2025 - become a better cheerleader and get moved to a higher-level cheerleading team

Q: Who are some of your favourite studyblrs? A: I’ve been following @studyign, @studyquill and @emmastudies for the longest time. Some of the newer studyblrs I really like are @studyburst and @bulletnotestudies.
