AP EXAM SEASON
As the dreaded plague of AP Exams approaches us, there are a lot of different ways to study for each exam, and I am here to share some tips and tricks for everyone taking AP Exams.
1.) PREPARE IN ADVANCE: that means when you take the class go through the ap prep book or textbook in unison so that you’re not cramming during these 3 or 4 weeks.
2.) INVEST IN A PROPER PREP BOOK: I have tried CliffNotes, Barrons, Princeton, 5 Steps to a 5, etc. Depending on your exam, such as humanities many people recommend Princeton and for STEM courses, some recommend Princeton’s book.
3.) PRACTICE TESTS AND PROBLEM SETS: For AP Calc, all I do is practice exams, and sometimes I’ll print past AP exams and do them for fun, even in my busy schedule, I will do them on the way to practice or on the bus to my regattas. I will always be doing some type of preparation
4.) Look for the curve, because the test is curved. Such as for the 2019 AP Calculus AB exam, if I get at least 5 points on every Free Response and 23/45 questions correct on my test, that is already a 4! So just google, “ap ____ exam curve” and I bet that something useful will show up.
5.) REVIEW EVERYTHING: I have a user guide for Biology that has the main idea of everything as well as my notes from all of the different chapters that I annotated and took notes on. Listen to crash courses, go to the library and find downloadable crash courses or look them on youtube! I know that people will host like 2-day crash courses before the exam, and those are helpful.
6.) KNOW BEFOREHAND: Know what you’re getting in before the first time that you take the test because you need to know how the test is before you take it or else you’re going to freak out and it’s going to be very intense. Know the time that you have per section.
7.) NIGHT BEFORE: The night before there’s no point of reviewing anything that you haven’t already covered because if you haven’t learned it over the past 6 months, there’s nothing you can learn in the next hour or three. Review what you’ve covered, but also get plenty of sleep and drink water and have a hearty breakfast!
So for everyone who’s going into war with the Advanced Placement tests, I wish you the best of luck and the best of studying/cramming! It’s going to be the worst 2 weeks of our lives, but after I’m cruising and going to take a chill pill. So you should bust your butt these last few weeks so that you can get that 4 or 5!

Night Before Exams!
My AP Exams are the next three days: AP Biology, AP Calculus AB, and AP Language and Competition. So I am definitely going to be following some of these tips to a T. So relax and don’t stress or try to cram because the night before a test, there is nothing new that you will be able to learn for the next day. Disclaimer: These tips won’t work for everyone but they might help slightly.
1. Know What You Need: You’re going to need different items for different exams, such as my Biology and Calculus exams, I will be needing a TI-84 calculator. However, for all of my exams, I will be needing a black or blue ink pen for my free responses. Know if you need your ID, pens/pencil, calculator, dictionary, etc.
2. DON’T CRAM: Cramming will not get you anywhere, in fact, you’ll be more likely to mix up facts. So you can revise what you have already learned but there’s no way that you’re going to be able to fully comprehend and understand a topic. Don’t attempt to learn a new topic the night before. Try to space it out throughout the year, so the morning of it’s simple looking over your notes.
3. Night Before: Get everything ready the night before, whatever you’re taking to your testing facility, your clothes for the next morning. Make it easier on yourself the night before instead of doing it in the morning, when you’re more likely to forget things. Choose a comfortable outfit and take a jacket if it’s cold or too hot.
4. NO SOCIAL MEDIA: This will suck you in and keep you awake. You have a bit for exams so you can delete the app. For Lent, (even though I am not Catholic) I decided to give up social media such as Instagram and I did. Went for about 40 plus days without Instagram, so you can definitely give it up for a week or however long your exam season is.
5. Don’t Stress, Finesse: Ladies and Gents, let’s be honest stress is a big no-no. Don’t need that to drag you down, whatever type of energy that you put out into the universe, is what the universe will direct at you. So positive vibes only, not to sound like a trendy 13-year-old hipster from 2013, but this is simply the law of attraction turned to fit my hippy mood. So be confident and get that bread!
6. Be Good To Your MENTAL HEALTH: Exam season takes a serious toll on our bodies level of stress, anxiety, sleep, and mental health. So remember that your body is also a living being, you need to water it and give it sunlight for your body to give you the results you want. So get plenty of rest, food, and water to keep you going throughout the day! Take a small snack to nourish your hungry body and make sure that you’re taking care of yourself. Whether, it’s doing a five-minute meditation when you’re trying to fall asleep, or going on youtube and listening to sleep mediation for a night before a test.
7. Morning Of Big Test: Get hyped, you have prepared for this for such a long time and there’s no turning back. You’re going to give it all you have got and it’s going to make you a better person going through this because of the knowledge you learned or even the toughness of the experience and how it shaped your studying habits. Take a nice breakfast, make it filling with some carbs and a little sugar to make your body full of energy. (not too much or you’ll crash) Eating a full breakfast can ensure that you have the energy to keep you running through your exam! You can also do some yoga or stretching in the morning so that your blood is running and your body is awake, so your brain is awake too. Do some brain teasers to get your brain working because some studies show that your brain isn’t fully awake till 10 for the average human, so get that blood flowing.
Remember don’t stress, do your best, forget the rest! There’s nothing that you don’t know on that test that will stand in front of you and what you want. I recently (meaning about 9 hours ago) started to practice the Law of Attraction which I briefly mentioned in the post but what energy you give out to the universe, is the energy you will receive in return. The universe doesn’t know what you need, it’s just a mirror that’s giving you what you put out. To balance the yin and yang, so give out POSITIVE and LOVE so you’re going to be receiving that as well! These exams don’t determine your future because your worth is so much more than these numbers and you’re going places no matter what these tests say. I want you all of this advice when you’re testing and I will everyone the best will all the love that I have to give!
