oh thank you so much!!

so disclaimer, I am a small fat (actual term on the scale of 'fategories', helpful to look up!!), but still plus size, so it's hard to find things that fit my ass sometimes lol. Bc the fashion world is very not friendly for anyone, I do end up shopping at places that are considered fast fashion. It's unfortunate and i'm trying to get better about my capitalist consumption, but again, being plus size is hard. It's about balancing what you can afford, how often you buy clothes, and looking into smaller businesses (especially Queer, Black, or Indigenous business)

But for pants, I often default to fast fashion like ASOS and Nova Men. They just unfortunately have the jeans that fit me best. They're both good places to start, if you have a similar body type to me and need more affordable options

I thrift a lot! And I also vulture department stores for deals and sales. I like Macy's a lot actually LOLLL, and I personally think Nordstrom is overrated. I really like off-price department stores too, like Saks Off 5th, which sell overstock from their more expensive branches.

For small businesses, I really like Stuzo Clothing for their fun shirts and hats. Black lesbian owned!

There's also the pretty well-known queer owned WILDFANG, which recently increased their sizes by a lot! I haven't bought from them just yet (they're style isn't really me as much), but I have seen their quality in person and it's good!

I've been a little obsessed with getting my jewelry from Vitaly. Don't think they're queer or bipoc owned though

FLAVNT - FLAVNT is a clothing brand run by two twins named Chris and Courtney Rhodes. Chris is a trans man, and Courtney is a wlw. Their shop sells a variety of t-shirts with LGBTQ-friendly slogans, accessories (including pronoun buttons), and binders in a variety of different skin tones. They are based in Austin, and even offer a partnership programme to help trans people fund their transitions!

Otherwild - Founded by a queer-identifying woman named Rachel Berks, Otherwild has an online presence as well as brick-and-mortar stores in New York and Los Angeles. In addition to supporting independent artists like her partner A.L. Steiner, Rachel’s company prides itself on its ethical labour practices, ethical material sources, and eliminating single-use plastics from their shelves. In addition to clothing and accessories, they also sell bath supplies and housewares.

NerdyKeppie - This small business is owned by Mandy Perry and their partner Steve, both of whom are Jewish and use they/them pronouns! Stuzo - Stuzo is owned by two black women named Stoney Michelli and Uzo Ejikeme, who are married. They pride themselves as having a “genderless” clothing brand, often using gender-nonconforming models of colour on their website to show off their designs. In addition to the LGBTQ slogans on their clothing, they also have black empowerment slogans such as “Black Magic” and “Black AF”

Autostraddle - This is the merch store for the online magazine of the same name. It focuses on bringing together LGBTQ women as well as nonbinary people and giving them a voice. When you buy from them, not only are you giving money to a company that directly supports queer creators, you’re also supporting a platform that gives them a voice. Pretty neat!

NiK Kacy - A bit of a different apparel shop, but cool nonetheless. If you’re in the market for some gender neutral fancy footwear (or other leather accessories), NiK Kacy has you covered! It was founded by Nik Kacy (who is genderfluid) and sells all of its designs in a broad range of sizes, from a US women’s 3.5 to a men’s 14! Nik’s shoes are NOT cheap (the dress boots pictured will set you back $260), but they’re stylish and appear to be pretty well-made.

Artifex Detroit - This queer-owned business makes upcycled, durable accessories from the upholstery and seatbelts of junkyard cars in Detroit, Michigan. Creator Wendee Magi is dedicated both to recycling what materials she can and buying her supplies from local businesses.

dfrntpigeon - This is a Portland-based company that is run by at-risk youth (especially LGBTQ youth and PoC) from the Portland area. According to them, their business aims to change the perception of homeless youth and help its participants grow their creative and administrative skills. The youth are mentored by professionals with experience in the creative field. Also one of the designers’ profiles reads “aspiring cat” and that’s valid as fuck.

Cult Party - A feminist, queer-run brick-and-mortar store in NYC with a significant online presence. Cult Party is run exclusively by women, which is pretty dope. In addition to selling apparel, housewares, and witchy stuff, they also host a wide variety of events, including a “weirdo painting class” and tarot readings. A lot of their products are reproductive system-focused, but they also have a “no TERFs” pin on their instagram page, so they seem to be trans-inclusive.

Androgynous Fox - I can’t confirm who the founder of this brand is, since their name is nowhere to found, but they describe the purpose of Androgynous Fox as “Clothing for the androgynous and non-binary population,” and all of their clothing is marketed to all genders, so that’s pretty cool! I personally enjoyed a lot of their designs, so that’s why they’re on this list, but I really can’t confirm if they’re actually LGBTQ-run or not.

Wildfang - This company was founded by two former Nike employees by the names of Emma McIlroy and Julia Parsley, both of whom wanted a place where DFAB folks with a masc fashion sense could find clothes that actually fit their body. The result was Wildfang, a clothing brand that focuses on “tomboy” fashion and feminist messaging. Also, their patterned button-up line would make Tan France and Hayley Kiyoko infinitely proud.

Queer Supply - A Toronto-based clothing brand focused on ethically-sourcing its materials and celebrating the work of queer artists. They appear to launch in waves, focusing on one or two specific creators every time they do. Right now, they’re focusing on Kit (”Fuck your gender binary”) and Sade Patlele (”Magic black femme”)

Rebirth Garments - Clothing designed and made by Sky Cubacub, a disabled, queer, nonbinary person. Their styles focus on being inclusive to folks of all sizes, genders, and abilities, but they explicitly focus on disabled, non-cis, and non-white people. If you love bright, neon colours and geometric patterns, this is the place for you! The majority of Rebirth’s inventory can be found on their Etsy page.

Haute Butch - Another tomboy brand! This one was actually the result of a Kickstarter back in 2015, with the focus on making a brand specifically for butch women, DFAB nonbinary people, and trans men. Unlike the more androgynous styles on this list, Haute Butch carries masculine clothes designed to better fit a DFAB body, which is nice if you’re smol like me. They carry accessories usually targeted to men, such as cufflinks and tie clips, and even offer bespoke suit fittings!

Seven Even - Named for the 7 letters in the words “lesbian” and “rainbow” as well as the concept of equality, Seven Even is the brainchild of Gena Pecoraro, a gay woman. She started the company to help unify the LGBTQ community and give back to nonprofits. Seven Even’s dog products benefit Gays for Strays, an LGBTQ outreach project for Save a Pet animal rescue and $5 from every purchase is donated to the onePulse Foundation.

Revel & Riot - Once again, I can’t find too much information on who runs this organisation, but they identify themselves as LGBTQ-run on the website., Their designs are unabashedly political, and a portion of their proceeds go to LGBTQ-focused nonprofits such as The Ali Forney Center and The Human Rights Campaign. They even have pages dedicated to Definitions, LBTQ Art History, and many others.

Point 5cc - This brand was founded by Aydian Dowling, a transgender speaker and advocate! On top of just generally making really cool trans-positive shirts, some of the profits go to Point of Pride, which has an Annual Transgender Surgery Fund and uses their donations to give trans people access to breast forms and binders. Also, the name (.5cc) is a reference to the amount of hormones a person on HRT receives in a single dose.
