The CX had been developed while Citroën was still independent but under PSA's management there was a push to make future Citroëns less "quirky" and also share components with Peugeot. Jean Giret was Citroën's design chief and he began to work "unofficially" on a car to succeed the CX. Vauxhall Chevette Hatchback Styling Model, 1973. GM's British subsidiary were given responsibility for developing the hatchback version of the GM T-Car. Vauxhall had already been developing a hatchback "supermini" referred to as the Baby R - later designated as the S-Car project by GM. To save money the S-Car was integrated into the T-Car program.
