How does the Chengdu J-20 compare to the F-22, F-35 and the Su-57?
The F-22 is faster and has a longer range than the J-20, but the J-20 has a larger ordinance payload. This suggests that the J-20 is less suited for an expeditionary role and more suited to contesting airspace and providing precision strikes closer to home.
The J-20 can supercruise at higher altitudes than the F-35 but has much worse stealth capability. There also seems to be a problem in manufacturing the J-20 at quantity, perhaps due to sourcing of components or Chinese economic woes.
The Su-57 has abysmal stealth, as it compares poorly even to very old stealth aircraft like the F-117 Nighthawk, and having only ten functional models. It doesn't deserve to be in this list.
Thanks for the question, Anon.

Russian Su-57 versus F-16 to fight on the Ukrainian battlefield
As soon as Kyiv starts using F-16s, Moscow will surely respond by deploying Su-57 stealth fighters to the conflict zone, National Interest reports. Which aircraft will win?
A few months ago, US President Joe Biden suddenly changed his mind and said that the US would give Ukraine the F-16 Fighting Falcon and help train pilots and ground personnel. At the G7 summit in Hiroshima, States responded to the request, which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had been voicing since the beginning of the conflict.
For months, the US had delayed its decision to provide Kyiv with these fourth-generation fighters because of its limited arsenal and long training process. Ukraine, whose fleet is largely made up of outdated Soviet-era aircraft, has only welcomed this sudden shift in the US approach. Now that Kyiv can use these modern fighters, Moscow can turn to the stealthy Su-57s as an “antidote.”
So far in this conflict, Moscow has kept its fifth-generation Su-57s at a distance. While the Kremlin has long advertised this fighter platform as the best of the best, whether its flight and tactical capabilities match Moscow’s claims remains to be seen.

Is India reconsidering the Su-57 fighter jets from Russia?
India and Russia have been working together in the field of armament manufacturing since the days of the Cold War when the Soviet Union existed. And Russia, previously the Soviet Union, became India’s main supplier of military equipment as a result of the West’s failure to give any weapon system to India out of sympathy and affection for Pakistan, a nation that fosters terrorism under the pretext of safeguarding sovereignty.
India has the world’s highest Russian weaponry arsenal, with Russian weapons accounting for over 70% of India’s armament. The majority of the military aircraft used by India’s Air Force are Russian. It still operates the world’s oldest fighter, the MiG-21, dubbed the “flying coffin” due to many crashes.

Alright, time for plane talk.
The Su-57 is incredibly depressing. Politics of Russia aside, viewing the aircraft in a vacuum as something I personally would wanna fly, on paper it's fucking perfect.
The Flanker family of fighter jets are built around supermaneuverability in close range dogfighting, as well as bringing dogfight doctrine to BVR by getting behind enemy planes and firing extended range heatseekers to get a kill without alerting the target.
The thing is, they're huge on radar.
So, along comes the idea of making a stealth version, and this sounds perfect. A plane that can sneak in to the merge, or just get behind the enemy without being seen. Cool! Perfect!
Except they decided to learn all the wrong lessons from the US. They went for radar absorption above all else, very few shape considerations to reduce cross section. Then they ditched the R-27 missile entirely in favor of a shitty AMRAAM clone, effectively crippling everything they actually had an advantage in.
And to top it all off, they made it bigger. Large size means large radar cross section, even with ideal stealth profile, the Su-57 would be incredibly easy to spot. The stupid wing design also hurts its supermaneuverability a fair bit.
Honestly the Su 57 is a perfect example of how Russia has become incredibly incompetent from a military perspective, copying all the worst elements of the F 22 in hopes of looking scary. All this before the production issues that made the plane basically extinct.
It's sad, but given how Putin is basically a comic book villain, it's a good thing even if it stings as an aviation enthusiast.

Same anon from the F-22, J-20, F-35 and Su-57 ask. While the Su-57's stealth is a joke, what about it's speed, altitude, and avionics? Are any of those on par with other fifth generation fighters?
The Su-57's speed, maneuverability, and range are superior to the F-35, but the F-35 is not designed to be a dogfighter. The Su-57 is said to fly higher than the F-22, and the top speed of the two are within 20 mph of each other. The Su-57's avionics can't even begin to compare, they're not very good. And it's a pretty beefy plane too, which makes it a larger (and thus easier to detect) target.
Thanks for the question, Anon.

Aircraft manufacturers handed over serial Su-57 5th-generation fighters to the Russian Ministry of Defence
The Gagarin Aviation Plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur has manufactured and handed over to the Russian Defence Ministry the final batch of Su-57 fifth-generation aircraft under the 2023 production programme, according to the Russian Industry and Trade Ministry.
On Wednesday, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov said:
Aircraft manufacturers have made and handed over to our armed forces all Su-57 fifth-generation aircraft planned for delivery this year. The fighters have successfully passed all the necessary factory tests. The increase in the production of these unique machines was made possible thanks to the resolution of issues related to the rhythmic supply of components and the improvement of in-line assembly technology. I believe that the KNAAZ team is coping well with this challenging task.
According to Sergey Chemezov, CEO of Rostec State Corporation, quoted in the ministry’s release, “the final assembly shop is already working on combat vehicles that will be handed over to the Russian Air Force in 2024. The number of fifth-generation fighters arriving to the troops is almost doubling annually.”

Jaune (Mobius 1, F-22), roasts SU-57, piloted by Cardin
Mobius 1 Jaune (F-22): What the hell is that on my radar? Is that? Oh it’s an SU-57. I mistaken you for being a bomber since you’re goddamn huge for a stealth bomber!
Albireo 1 Cardin (SU-57): Fuck you too
Mobius 1 Jaune (F-22): You really think you can hide from radar, flying around in that city block of an aircraft?
Albireo 1 Cardin (SU-57): I warn you Arc, i can shoot you down faster than you shooting me down!
Mobius 1 Jaune (F-22): You really want to know what’s the 57 in the SU-57 means? It’s the area code given to it because it’s a fucking giant! You’re so goddamn big you make my F-22 looks like a Honda Civic next to a Ford F-250 on a lift kit.
Albireo 1 Cardin (SU-57): That’s it (Fires R-73) FOX 2!
Mobius 1 Jaune (F-22): *Evaded the missile* Oh it’s a 5th gen Fighter like in the Tom Juice Movie (Y’all know which one lol)? Wow, it’s really cool like that matter when an AIM-120 is rapidly approaching your exact position. *Evades another missile* Pull that one dumbass maneuver from the maneuver, you may dodge one missile with that, but you can’t dodge this 20mm going straight into your cockpit. *Evades another missile*
Albireo 1 Cardin (SU-57): Stay still goddammit! *Fires another missile*
Mobius 1 Jaune (F-22): *Evades the missile once more* Tell your airbase to stop sending more SU-57 to my position. Oh wait, there are 47 of you in the world, and they can’t risk sending more SU-57 because you’re so goddamn expensive (Fucking F-22 is $200 mil while SU-57 is only $35 mil, but the F-22 has 187 units, in real life. But this is ace combat sooo…. There are more F-22 and SU-57 than the real life), meaning you’re all alone, no allies, no friends and most of all, no bitches *Vine Thud*. It took you 10 years to get you from the first flight in 1994 to be in the Erusean Air Force in 2004.
Albireo 1 Cardin (SU-57): Hah i’m right behind him, switching to guns! *Fires the gun but all of the bullets missed* Fuck!
Mobius 1 Jaune (F-22): *Cobra maneuvered behind Cardin* The Raptor did it in 8 years and its introduction is back in 20th Century (Ace Combat lore stated this). You’re already outdated and should move on *AIM-9X Search tone sound* with your pathetic life. *AIM-9X Lock On sound* The only way for you to be a truly stealth fighter, is to not exist at all. Go back to your hangar and stay on the ground. *Fires the AIM-9X* so that way i can’t see you, and you can do what you built for, not being seen. *Splash one bandit!)
Albireo 1 Cardin (SU-57), currently on an ejection seat: I’ll get my revenge one day, asshole!

Here is a thought:
The MIG-28 Pilot from Top Gun, the one Goose took a picture of, IS THE SAME DUDE as the SU-57 Pilot from Top Gun: Maverick.
[Let's call them Bob. Well this Bob Dude is a bit like Maverick and got to keep flying fighter jets even today...
Bob has never forgotten when in 86, some pilot gave him the finger and his RIO took a picture of them.
Many years later, in a brand new fighter jet, the best there is according to Bob, he's been given a GOOD hunt&chase by a GODAMMNED F-14 THAT ISN'T EVEN SUPPOSED TO BE ABLE TO FLY!
Let's just say Bob is really pissed off when he's bested by a bag of ass...and forced to eject.
AND HAS MANY THINGS TO SAY TO HIS SUPERIORS.]
{Now imagine Bob somehow learns the birdie guy and f-14 dude is the one and only Pete Maverick Mitchell...
I don't know it makes me go giggling hysterically to think about Bob being all "THE NERVE OF THIS PILOT. DISHONOUR ON YOUR COW. DISHONOUR ON YOUR FAMILY."}
