Happy Tenth Birthday Steven Universe!

I remember seeing a quick teaser for this back when I was a kid and thought, "huh, that doesn't look very good." Flash forward to now and I'm writing a 200k+ word Steven Universe fic.

There will probably never be another show that means as much to me as Steven Universe does. I feel head-over-heels in love with its characters (their dynamic growth, their well-developed personalities, their voice acting, my God their voice acting), the art style, the story, the soundtrack, and the themes. I grew up immersing myself into this world, and it really did affect my outlook on life and how I interacted with others. It told me how important empathy and loving your enemies was, and these are still values I hold with me. It also proved to be an amazing creative outlet for me, and I would in no way be writing as a hobby now if it weren't for this show.

Then the movie came out and I fell down a rabbit hole.

I've never so loved (and so identified with) a character before. Everything about Spinel was done extremely well, and it all clicked for me: her voice acting and her singing (thank you Sarah Stiles!), her design and mannerisms, her back story, and especially her personality. She's just a blast to write, and I'm certain that I'll be writing plenty more about her for the foreseeable future.

Thank you, Rebecca Sugar, for creating a show that has stuck with me for a decade now. Thanks to everyone in the cast and crew for putting their all into a really good show. Thanks to everybody I've met in the community, who've also inspired me to continue writing and doing what I love.

I did decide to watch the movie today and yknow what yeah after watching the whole show I KNOW I'm right, Lapis saying she's "still on the fence" about trying to kill Steven doesn't make ANY sense!!

it doesn't even work as a joke!! Lapis LOVES Steven and she did from the start! she only ever attacked him in Ocean Gem, and even then he was still the only one she trusted to come up and talk. Lapis wanted Steven to go home with her, she constantly tried to protect him, he was pretty much always on her good side and the One Time he wasn't I think is actually the quickest turnaround we saw in the show. they were friends from the beginning and always were!

yes I know I'm worked up over a silly joke about murder but I'm RIGHT, that line doesn't make sense and has always bugged me, for all her flaws Lapis always loved Steven, that's her beach summer fun buddy!!
