@that_marcus_boy I've been playing around with painting from abstraction in my recent work, I’ve been studying the artist ‘Theo Prins’ and his concept work which heavily employs this practice and trying to inject it into my own work. We are thrilled to announce that the brilliant Dantiel W. Moniz—author of the acclaimed story collection Milk, Blood, Heat—will judge our 2024 American Short(er) Fiction Prize.

The prize recognizes extraordinary short fiction under 1,000 words. The first-place winner will receive a $1,000 prize and publication. Previous winners of the Short(er) Fiction Prize have gone on to be anthologized in places such as The Pushcart Prize: Best of the Small Presses. All entries will be considered for publication.

@angelhernandezart Ángel Hernández (b.1994, Venezuela) is a Contemporary Art Creator who explores the possibilities of expressing ideas and narratives inspired by themes as the space, the time and the human condition, especially by the female figure. Working on various layers of concepts and materials, Hernández analyzes the origin and the communicative possibilities of an initial idea, including elements in his art that allow him to obtain the compositional coherence necessary to visualize a portrait, a fashion illustration or a narrative illustration that can reflect dialogues or antagonisms between the figurative-traditional and the abstract-contemporary. Empty gazes, unknown destinations, lonely individuals, stripes and cracks, fragmentation, timelessness and nostalgia are recurrent concepts in most of Ángel Hernández’s creations that he makes evident through techniques such as pencil drawing, watercolor and ink on paper, strokes of crayon, charcoal, pastel, paint stains, collage with paper scraps, threads and scribbles.
