HC that Jason and Dick have very different strategies for handling Tim's repeated jokes about killing himself.
Jason: "Why don't you just stay out of this one, Dickhead? Let the kid make his own decision."
Dick, kicking Jason: "Tim think about the consequences--"
Tim, more annoyed by the conversation than anything, slumped on the table: "The whole point is that there are no consequences."
Dick: "--if you killed yourself, you'd violate the no-killing rule and Bruce would revive you to be disappointed and make your life miserable."
Jason, to Dick: "You're such an idiot."
Tim: *bursts into laughter*
Alfred: *booking therapy*

MASTERLIST ⛤ WHUMPTOBER WORKS

“Fuck.”
You were stuck. A life threatening decision looming over your head like a dark cloud about five minutes before it is about to rain. Your foot bounced anxiously against the floor as you stared at your phone, rolling it around in your hand. You hadn’t moved much since the first one came through. It buzzed again. With trembling fingers you scanned the words on the screen.
‘Tick Tock, little Bat.’
You weren’t sure entirely how you had ended up in this predicament. One minute you were just going about your business in the manor and the next you found yourself locked up in your room with the message glowing brightly on your screen.
The message was dark and foreboding and no matter how hard you tried to shake it from your mind it came back. They were threatening to kill your brothers. One text after the next filled to the brim of details of how they wanted to carve them to pieces. Fear stuck you like a hammer as they continued to flood in, text after text after text each ending with the same haunting line.
‘It’s up to you whether they live or die. Choose wisely, Wayne. Your time is running out.’
In theory, the choice was simple. It was your life for theirs. And you knew what you were supposed to choose… but there were so many complexities woven within the situation that made it hard to think straight. In hindsight, you would have made the choice in a heartbeat. You would have given your life for theirs any day, but you couldn’t leave them like this not so suddenly. The four of them were away on patrol. Halloween was a busy night for the Bats. With so many people out, it took as many hands as possible to ensure Gotham’s safety. It was your job to monitor the screens, but you were too preoccupied with the text messages.
It was when the picture of Damian came flashing though that things shifted. This was no joke. They had eyes on you and your brothers and had the power to end you all with a with a snap of their fingers
You sighed deeply, pinching the bridge of your nose as you pondered. You knew you would have to make the decision soon, but it was a double negative. Stay, and risk the lives of your brothers, or go and send them into a spiral of sudden grief. It felt so cruel to leave them without an explanation, but it felt even cruller to let them die when you had the power to stop such things occurring.
You always took pleasure in the little details. The way that Damian hid his little smile behind his hand after he had pretended he wasn’t interested. The way that Dick always seemed to hum the same song over and over for days on end until finally he would move into the next and the cycle would begin again. And then there was Jason’s hair that was always just a little bit too long so that it dangled over his eyes and he constantly had to brush it out of his face. You would miss the little moments deeply. Spending time with your brothers was something that you cherished deeply, even if they more often than not contained childish bickering. You smiled at the memories but it quickly morphed into a deep frown.
You had made your decision.
Pushing the chair out from under the table with a groan as it shifted beneath your weight, you reached for a pen and paper and began to write, not bothering to wipe your tears as you scrawled across the page. You wrote six notes. One for each of your brothers, one for Bruce and Alfred.
After you had done that you slid them beneath the respective doors and shrugged in your coat. You sniffled taking one last look at your home before disappearing into the night to seal your fate.
~~
The wind howled against your skin, whipping around your body as you trudged. You had to pull your coat up to hide your face. You knew that if you were seen there was no going back. Your brothers would be able to convince you to turn back. But you knew that wasn’t an option. As your drew nearer to the rendezvous point, your heart dropped.
Then the hooded figure appeared from the building and froze. Taking them in completely. You took a shuddering breath, sending the other two spill in from behind you to surround you. There was no going back now.
Their grip was harsh on your arm as they dragged you through the twisting corridors. They had searched your body for weapons, stripping you of the small dagger you had tucked away in your boot.
They led to a room lit by flickering golden candlelight. The three of them inched you into the middle of the room before dropping their cloaks.
“Begin.” One of them hissed from behind a mask.
And suddenly your body was consumed in a pain so violent that you were forced to your knees.
~~~
“Y/N?” Jason called out. It was unusually quiet in the manor. The lights were out and there was no sign that you were around besides a lukewarm mug of coffee discarded by the computer.
Tim bumped into his brother as he turned the corner. “Have you seen her?” He asked. “I can’t find her anywhere.”
Jason shook his head, concern bubbling up in his stomach. “No.”
“Maybe she’s in her room?”
The two of them barged up the stairs and turned into your room only to find Damian slipping out of your room. The lights were off. You weren’t home.
It was at that fateful moment that Dick came out of his room with shaky hands. He was holding the folded, tear stained paper. He had found the letter. With bloodshot eyes he turned to his younger brothers. “She’s gone.”
The Manor wept that night. No body slept as their body wracked with sobs that wailed throughout the walls. The was a dark hole left that your light had filled. It was as though someone had sniffed out a candle, stripping the vigilantes of any joy and light that they once had. You were gone, and with you your spirit and hope and the Wayne’s would never be the same again.
Specter of Starlight - Part 1
Summary:
Tim meets a specter of a ghost on a roof. He doesn't know that, not at first. At first he just meets a friend. It's only later he becomes very, very scared for him.
Content warning:
While I promise a happy ending, this fic does not start out happy. The start of this fic deals with (mistaken) suicidal ideation. Neither character is, but the assumption is made and there's a lot of internal thoughts about running into someone on a ledge in the middle of the night and how to handle that. Proceed carefully, darlings.
Wc: 666 (coincidentally spooky)
_____
Sometimes a person on a roof was just a person on a roof— someone out to get some fresh air or distance or space. Sometimes a person on a roof was a tragedy waiting to happen. As protectors of the city, the Bats had to learn to tell the difference.
They tried to stop every time that they could, just in case, but when they were in the middle of a chase or attack they had to make a call. They all had choices that haunted them. They could only make the best guess based on what they knew. Obvious apartment complexes, lower buildings, people on the phone or smoking, in the middle of the roof— if they didn’t have the time, those were usually safe to pass on. Tonight it was an office building, several stories high, a person sitting on the edge of the building as silent and still as the stone gargoyle they were next to. Tonight Tim wasn’t going to risk passing by. At least the figure was looking up and not down. Maybe it was okay. Please be okay. Tim landed lightly, almost soundlessly, on the roof. Still, he saw the shoulders of the person stiffen ever so slightly. They had heard him. Tim let the toe of his boot catch purposefully on the aggregate of the roof— let himself be obvious in his presence. He went kept wide. It was far enough away not to be a threat (that was a lie, Tim would always be a threat) but close enough that at this height he would have time to catch the person if they jumped. With ease, Tim hopped up onto the ledge and let his feet dangle out over the open air. For him the height was comforting, an old friend. “What brings you all the way up here?” Don’t ask them if they’re going to jump. Don’t ask them if they’re that far gone. Don’t cement the idea in their mind. Out of the corner of his eye, Tim took in what details he could in dim light. Dark hair— black likely but possibly dark brown. Late teens likely, early twenties if they were a late bloomer. Which was possible. They’re far too lean— lean enough to be pushing into gaunt. Bright blue eyes flicked to look at Tim and then back up to the sky. “Stargazing.” Tim stared up at the cloud cover that was so thick not a bit of starlight sneaked through. They snorted, as if reading Tim’s mind. “Yeah, it’s not being very cooperative.” There’s a subtle drawl to their voice. Midwest accent, Tim’s subconscious supplies, not a Gotham native. Not even someone who’s been here long enough to lose the accent. Just long enough to be up on a roof in the middle of the night. Their voice is almost lost in the night air even though it’s still as death. There’s not a single breeze to snatch their words away, but the voice is still just a little hard to hear. “I don’t think you’re going to be in luck tonight,” Tim replied. “Lady Gotham isn’t known to be accommodating.” They gave a long hum at that, clearly thinking something over. “Guess I’m not really stargazing then.” “So what would you say you’re doing?” Tim tried to keep his voice casual. They gave a little shrug, eyes still glued to the murky sky. “Just… wondering it must be like… to die without getting to see the stars one last time.” Tim jolted towards them instinctively, his hands gripped white knuckled tight on the ledge to avoid reaching out. Don’t do anything that might give them a reason to jump. The stranger glanced at Tim again. A crooked smile graced their lips. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you.” Tim wants to say he’s not scared. It would be a lie. “I’m not up here to jump, I promise. I very much want to live.” Tim wanted desperately to believe that.
AN: Finally wrote the start of this last night when I couldn't sleep. I gave it a rough polish so here it is! I don't know if I'll post all of it on tumblr, as I think I want to play around with chapter pacing for effect, but have this here at least. (Also I cannot tell you how many times I wrote Tim as TIme.) As always, stay delightful.
Rejected Soulmate au where after Tim rejects Phantom on the rooftop Danny plans on taking how own life when he's stopped by Ras Al Ghul who talks him down and praises him for his talent and skill before managing to convince him to be an assasin.
Danny doesn't want revenge on the bats but hes lost most of his morals at this point and in his depressive spiral he's become very easy to manipulate and rather apathetic to others plights. He quickly rises in the ranks and is personally trained by Talia and other high ranking members of the league in combat styles both utilizing his multitudes of powers and teaching him to fight without them.
Phantom is eventually sent out on a mission to his home dimension to kill Vlad Masters and bring his corpse back to Ras for research and experimental purposes. This is when Danny learns that Amity Park did not do well in his absence and had become a war zone.
Sam had the nerve to act released that Danny was back and was going to "fix everything" and even got mad when he told her he had nothing to do with this city or its inhabitants. She tried to yell at him and say it was his "responsibility" and he blasted her in the face without a second thought, leaving her in critical condition and Tucker freaking out and trying to help her.
Danny smiled. That felt good. Not as good as wiping that smug look off of Vlads face nor the look of horror when he realized he was dying again. Danny made a show of Phantom killing Plasmious in broad daylight and letting what was left of the city see him transform back into Masters as he died before dragging his corpse through a portal and disappearing with him.
Ras was so pleased with Phantom. After all, he never failed a mission.
Arkhamverse Batman talking about the Bat Family in a message to Tim Drake in Suicide Squad KTJL: "I'm proud to call you, Nightwing, and Oracle, my friends."
Tumblr media
Gotham Knights Batman talking about Nightwing in an Audio Log: "I'd Tell my son that I miss him"
One of these games understands Batman's Relationship with the Bat Family, and the other doesn't. All they had to do was just change "Friends" to "Family" in the SS KTJL Cutscene and there would be no issues here.
and… so I found out that in the new video game in the same universe as Arkham Knight… Tim is killed. BY BATMAN. Will Tim Drake ever have peace in any DC universe? Why is he just killed or forgotten by DC? Yet he is one of our generation's most beloved…
