Sukka Week 2023 Prompts are Here!

There were so many great prompts; thank you everyone for submitting ideas and voting! There were also a lot of ties, so I took some liberties and combined prompts with a similar vibe to make room for all the top votes. Does this mean we technically have like 17 prompts for Sukka Week 2023? Yes, and I am not sorry about it.

And if that wasn't enough, I threw in some wild cards! Because we do have some repeats of prompts from prior Sukka Weeks, I grabbed a few of my favorites from this year's submissions and threw them into the mix, along with a handful of other ideas I had. It’s been so long since I’ve posted a fic here that I’ve forgotten how I usually do it. 😅

Here’s a little something for Day 1 of @sukkaweek2022: Eloping

Summary: Reluctant to leave after an always-too-short visit to Kyoshi Island, Sokka attempts to lighten the mood with a (literal) proposal.

“I don’t want to go,” Sokka whined. From his position lying in the sand on Kyoshi Island’s beach, the whine felt like a plea given up to the stars. Not that Sokka believed the stars were capable of or interested in fixing this particular situation, but he supposed it never hurt to have all his bases covered.

“I don’t want you to go, either,” Suki said from where she was lying next to him. Her plea was not directed at the stars. Sokka wasn’t watching her, but he felt her voice right next to his ear, the warm breath of it, the quiet rasp that toyed with the edges of melancholy.

Suki — his brave, practical Suki — usually kept things light until the moment when they were forced to say goodbye. She typically wouldn’t even let him pout on the walk to the docks; they had to be standing at the foot of the gangplank before she would begin entertaining the idea that he was leaving. But this night, with one more whole entire sleep to go before his departure, the looming separation had crept through.

So now Sokka was sad about leaving and mad at himself for saying anything. Instead of agreeing with him, Suki should have — normally would have — scolded him for acting like they didn’t still have time left. “You’re still here!” she should’ve said, followed by, “Is there a reason you’re not kissing me right now?” A situation he would’ve gleefully rectified.

day one of sukka week: blending culture (or, alternately, suk’s bi awakening)

~ Details & Rules ~

The most important rule is to have some Sukka fun! But here's a few guidelines to help us all have a good time

1) First and foremost, to submit a work for Sukka Week, please tag @sukka-week in your post.

You can also use the #sukkaweek and #sukkaweek2023 tags on your post, but the best way for me to see your submission is to @ this blog (and keep in mind that this blog has a hypen; there's another another blog without a hyphen so just watch out for that).

2) Sukka (romantic relationship between Sokka and Suki) should be the primary ship in your work.

Including other ships in your work is totally fine, but they shouldn’t break Sukka.

For the purposes of this event, poly ships that contain Sokka and Suki don’t count as Sukka. Stories where Sokka and/or Suki are in another relationship towards the beginning but Sukka is endgame are okay! However, the work should contain more Sukka than it does the other ship(s).

3) It's okay for the work to focus primarily on Sokka or Suki as independent people, as long as Sukka appears somewhere (and fits the criteria above).

For example, if I wanted to write a fic that's mostly about Suki's character development after the war, and Sokka appears in less than half the story, but they're still a couple and they think about each other/write to each other/visit each other once in a while, then that still fits for this event!

Or, if I wanted to draw a picture of a grown-up Sokka and a grown-up Foo Foo Cuddlypoops charging into battle, and I put Suki's face in the background with big pink heart eyes, that would also fit for this event!

4) Please tag all your content appropriately!

This includes mature or potentially triggering content like NSFW and violence, as well as content like additional ships.

5) Yes, NSFW content is allowed.

Intimate content should be consensual in nature, and please make sure to follow the guidelines of whatever platform is hosting your work.

As an FYI, this blog will use the tag #spicysukkaweek for any NSFW content in case you’d like to block these types of works.

6) Submissions should be previously unpublished.

One of the goals of this events is to inspire people to create brand-spankin’-new Sukka works! If you would like this blog to promote your existing works, I’m happy to do so during the lead-up weeks prior to the actual event week. Feel free to shoot me an ask or DM with a link.

That said, unpublished chapters to pre-existing works are okay! As are works that are cross-posted to simultaneously-occurring events.

7) If possible, it would be helpful to provide descriptions of visual or audio content.

e.g., image descriptions for fanart, edits, gifs, etc. and transcripts for audio content. I will do my best to remember to provide these descriptions when reblogging if they haven’t been included already.

8) Any kind of creative work goes!

We're not limited to fics and digital drawings! Want to create a new Sukka-Wild-West-AU-themed playlist? Please do! (I'd seriously love to hear what that sounds like.) Got inspired to do some Family-themed incorrect quotes? Have at it! Want to do a podfic of an existing Sukka story that gives you Battle Lovers vibes? That would be beautiful! (With the original author's permission, of course.) Don't feel like you have to write seven different 5k-word one-shots to participate in Sukka Week. (I'll try to take my own advice here, too. ;))

Sukka Week Day 4: Arranged Marriage

Inspired by the beginning of The Swan Princess. Every summer, Prince Sokka and Princess Suki are brought to visit each other, in the hope that when they grow up they will agree to a politically advantageous marriage. Unfortunately, Suki thinks Sokka's annoying and Sokka thinks...the way he does in early Book 1 (she and Katara do become fast friends, which annoys Sokka to no end). One year, Sokka overhears Suki discussing her self-defense training and makes a disparaging comment about girls and sports. Suki challenges him to a sparring match right then and there. He accepts and loses within seconds...and suddenly this girl is a lot more interesting! He apologizes, and over the years they spend more and more time together, talking, training, playing games, and genuinely falling in love. The year after they've come of age, Suki arrives wearing the necklace that was given to her family by Sokka's years ago when the match was first arranged.

A day late, here’s my fic for the Day 2 @sukkaweek2021 prompt Ember Island!

I had something completely different in mind when I originally set out to write this. Then I read @krastbannert​’s Hey, Pretty Boy and thought “I want to write something that sounds like that!” so that when I actually sat down to write, this is what came out instead. (Not that it actually sounds like Krast’s writing, but hey, I was trying something. 🤷‍♀️ Anyway, thanks for the inspiration, man!)

I also have something for the other Day 2 prompt Parenthood/First Born, but it needs some editing so I’m gonna post that for the Free Day. :)

Summary: Sokka finds Suki on the beach in the middle of the night, and then they find their way to each other.

If she closes her eyes, she can almost pretend she’s back on Kyoshi Island. Except, who is she kidding? Ember Island smells like sulfur, and the sand is coarse, the color of dirt and soot. Back home, the sand is as fine as ground chalk, and it turns pink and orange in the sunset. On Ember Island, when the water tumbles onto the shore and sucks down into the sand beneath her feet, it looks like an oil spill.

But if she closes her eyes, and holds her breath, and ignores the way the gravel digs into her heels, she can almost pretend.

“Suki?”

Sokka’s voice when he calls her is frantic. The glow of the nearly-full moon is bright, but she can’t locate him when she turns. He must be looking for her on the other side of the rocks.

“Suki?”

She isn’t used to this. Knowledge of her whereabouts being integral to someone else’s wellbeing. Her empty bedroom being cause for a panicked search party. She doesn’t entirely mind it. She’s just not used to it.

“Sokka, I’m down at the beach!” she shouts back, and within moments, he appears above the rocky ridge that borders the seashore. For a moment, he scans the coast, and though his face is cast in shadow, she can imagine the furrow in his brow and the way his mouth scrunches to one side of his face when he disapproves of something. She’s had a lot of practice sitting in the dark, recreating his features on the backs of her eyelids.

She isn’t used to this, either. Being able to see him when her eyes are open.

Headcannons for what happened behind-the-scenes in ATLA(sukka)

Music you can listen to while reading them:- I wanna write you a song and 18 by One Direction.

1) In season 1 episode 4 where Sukka met, Sokka used to train with Suki and at times he used to ask her to remove her make up. It felt wierd to him that she was training him,sharing her skilled asset with him and he had no clue what she LOOKED LIKE?!. It baffled him. Suki used to tease him and tell him that it's a warrior's make up and he wouldn't know. Sokka immediately in defence used to shoot up and tell him that he knew WHAT WAR PAINT WAS,HE HAD PUT IT ON TOO.

Suki did wear it because she used to be on duty but secretly she was nervous too. What would he think of her without it?. She knew she liked him ever since he had apologized and had agreed to wear a girl's uniform as some would say,without any shame. He had become a true man and she was proud of him.

2) When they met in season 2 and Sokka really SAW her for the first time,his heart jumped right out of his chest. She was so beautiful,her features so subtle and her eyes so vibrant. And she kissed him,went right in. He wanted to give her the tightest hug but tried to play it off in the coolest way so he tried to contain his excitement and FAILED. He stared at her repeatedly and couldn't believe that someone could be so beautiful,so strong and just so full of light.

3) Because of not seeing each other for months when he saved her after boiling rock,they both held hands a lot of times and to Suki's surprise he was the biggest softie a "manly" man could be. He'd give her everything he could buy at that time. Food, he'd share it. Clothes,he tried to steal the best ones for her. Last glass of water,no thank you I'm not thirsty she'll have it. He was the most protective no doubt but also the most caring,giving boyfriend EVER.

4) They both took immense pride in explaining their respective cultures to each other. After the ember island play and countless laughs,Suki asked him what water tribe really was like. And Sokka's eyes lit up brighter than the fireflies that circled around them. He spent hours talking about their traditions and how it was the coolest place in the world (both literally and metaphorically ). He suddenly stopped and noticed that she was smiling at him and had been silent for quite a while. He immediately apologized and she went in for a kiss and told him she'd like it if he were to take her to the southern water tribe one day after all this was over and that he is going to get his class on the Kyoshi Island festivals and traditions tomorrow.

5) They both always,only had eyes for each other since they got together. Like LITERALLY. Suki would get the hottest fire nation boys at the beach literally gawking at her and she'd shoo them away with insults before Sokka came because she knew how protective and threatened he can feel at times. Sokka would be the finest man attending the play and girls would repeatedly find reasons to bump into him "unintentionally" ,only to hear "Sorry ladies, I'm with that girl you see over there". They both would literally be the most attractive couple wherever they'd go and their obvious love for each other which was always visible in their eyes would make every man and woman jealous they came across jealous.
