Welcome to Sukka Week 2021!
A fandom week to celebrate Sokka and Suki!
SCHEDULE
Last year, Sukka Week was held the last week of August. I wanted to keep the dates close to that, but also allow plenty of time for choosing prompts, so I've pushed the event out by about a month. Please let me know if you see any issues with these dates!

When should you submit your work?
You can submit on or after the day of a given prompt. (For example, if Day 1 is "modern AU," then you could submit a modern AU fic on Day 1 or any day thereafter, but please don't start posting before Day 1 because I might not be watching the tags that closely yet.)
Late submissions will be accepted! I'll be monitoring the tags for about a month after the event, but if you have a submission that's ready even later than that, just mention @sukkaweek2021 in your post and I'll be happy to reblog!
You do not have to submit something for every prompt! If you only submit one work for one prompt and nothing else for the rest of the week, that's totally fine! If you want to submit several works for one prompt, that's also totally fine! If you want to write a multi-chapter fic that hits on every prompt for the week, then great!

Ultimately we all just want to have fun and enjoy new content for one of our favorite ships! But following the guidelines below will help ensure everyone has a good time during Sukka Week.
Content that isn't tagged appropriately or doesn't follow these rules may not get reblogged, so please read these carefully before participating.
If you're posting your fic on tumblr, I recommend using a read-more cut on longer posts (more than a couple hundred words).
When posting images (fanart, edits, gifs, etc.), please use an image description.
Please provide transcripts for any audio content.
NSFW content is acceptable, but you must follow the guidelines of whatever platform is hosting your work (e.g., No explicit content hosted on FF.net; all appropriate tags used for content hosted on AO3; no NSFW images embedded directly on tumblr; if you are engaging with NSFW content, you confirm that you are the age necessary to do so on each platform where you are engaging with the work). If your fic or meta is NSFW and hosted on tumblr, please put it under a read-more cut.
Tag all your content appropriately! This includes mature or potentially triggering content like NSFW and violence, as well as content like additional ships.
This blog will use the tag #spicysukkaweek for any NSFW content in case you'd like to block these types of works.
Sukka (romantic relationship between Sokka and Suki) should be the primary ship in the story! Other ships are totally fine, but they shouldn't break Sukka. For the purposes of this event, poly ships that contain Sokka and Suki don't count as Sukka. (Stories where Sokka and/or Suki are in another relationship towards the beginning but Sukka is endgame are okay! However, the work should contain more Sukka than it does the other ship(s).)

day one of sukka week: blending culture (or, alternately, suk’s bi awakening)

The way the words do
For @sukkaweek2021 day 1, bisexuality/bi4bi!
“The sky here always seems different from the one at home. Bigger, maybe. If that makes any sense.”
Sokka doesn’t answer. He’s been fidgety lately, and quieter than he is normally. Suki’s starting to wonder if there’s something going on. Or maybe it’s just the South-pole cold, finally getting to him.
“Sokka?”
“Yeah, I heard you,” he mutters absentmindedly. “I totally see what you mean.”
These awkward little moments of silence aren’t always torture. With some people, they’re even nice. But whenever Sokka is happiest, he’ll be so eager to talk to Suki about it that he trips over his words. It’s so much a part of him, how he is. You worry when someone special to you isn’t themself, right? And when Suki’s worried, she doesn’t keep it to herself.
“Sokka, are you okay?”
A little more unbearable silence.
“I have something to tell you,” all in a rush. Her heart thumps, but her voice remains calm. Suki puts on her stone mask, her Kyoshi face.
“What is it?”
“I, uhhh…” He can’t look her in the eye. Oh, sun and earth, is it that bad? Is he sick or something? Is he breaking up with her? Is-
“I think I like guys. And- and girls. And you, mostly you, but before you, it was-”
“Is that all? Oh, you had me so worried.”
Sokka cocks his head at Suki, and she instantly knows that that was the wrong thing to say. The hurt on his face reminds her of the lost, beaten-up cat she found as a little girl.
“I-”
“What do you mean, is that all? It’s kind of a big deal, right?”
“Yes, yes, it is!” She laughs a little, trying to put him at ease. “And I’m so glad you trust me enough to tell me, and I know it’s much more of a- a thing, over here. But…”
“But what?” Sokka asks, relaxing a bit.
“But that sort of thing is so normal where I’m from, I kind of forgot it was even something you had to say. I mean, I’ve had a few girlfriends before. So have most of the other warriors. Even Kyoshi had male and female lovers, so it really wouldn’t be-” Suki sighs. “I’m sorry. I’m so glad you decided to tell me.”
Sokka’s bare, freezing hand sneaks it’s way into her sealskin-gloved one, and they don’t have to exchange words for Suki to know that she’s forgiven.
“I love you.”
“I love you too.”
There’s another moment of silence, and it’s much more comfortable this time around.
“Looking back, I think I had a crush on Haru for a bit.”
“Now that’s something that warrants me laughing at you.”

A day late, here’s my fic for the Day 2 @sukkaweek2021 prompt Ember Island!
I had something completely different in mind when I originally set out to write this. Then I read @krastbannert’s Hey, Pretty Boy and thought “I want to write something that sounds like that!” so that when I actually sat down to write, this is what came out instead. (Not that it actually sounds like Krast’s writing, but hey, I was trying something. 🤷♀️ Anyway, thanks for the inspiration, man!)
I also have something for the other Day 2 prompt Parenthood/First Born, but it needs some editing so I’m gonna post that for the Free Day. :)

Summary: Sokka finds Suki on the beach in the middle of the night, and then they find their way to each other.

If she closes her eyes, she can almost pretend she’s back on Kyoshi Island. Except, who is she kidding? Ember Island smells like sulfur, and the sand is coarse, the color of dirt and soot. Back home, the sand is as fine as ground chalk, and it turns pink and orange in the sunset. On Ember Island, when the water tumbles onto the shore and sucks down into the sand beneath her feet, it looks like an oil spill.
But if she closes her eyes, and holds her breath, and ignores the way the gravel digs into her heels, she can almost pretend.
“Suki?”
Sokka’s voice when he calls her is frantic. The glow of the nearly-full moon is bright, but she can’t locate him when she turns. He must be looking for her on the other side of the rocks.
“Suki?”
She isn’t used to this. Knowledge of her whereabouts being integral to someone else’s wellbeing. Her empty bedroom being cause for a panicked search party. She doesn’t entirely mind it. She’s just not used to it.
“Sokka, I’m down at the beach!” she shouts back, and within moments, he appears above the rocky ridge that borders the seashore. For a moment, he scans the coast, and though his face is cast in shadow, she can imagine the furrow in his brow and the way his mouth scrunches to one side of his face when he disapproves of something. She’s had a lot of practice sitting in the dark, recreating his features on the backs of her eyelids.
She isn’t used to this, either. Being able to see him when her eyes are open.

Sokka’s not a complete idiot. His stomach grumbles again as he slips a hand surreptitiously into his pocket, his fingers brushing against the crumpled picture.
(She’s gone, he reminds himself, but he isn’t.
He’s still here – and he still has a life to live.)
“Yeah,” he finally says,” I’d like that.”
Her face lights up like the sun, and he thinks it just might come close to being the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen.]

It's been two years since Yue passed. Two years of grieving, of missing the girl he had married at just sixteen years old - and lost moments later. Two years, and he decides that maybe it's time to stop running, and start again. And he's not quite sure when he first started thinking of Suki that way, just that it feels right.
Sometimes a second chance at love is earth-shattering - and sometimes it's just a random September night and a girl who can kick his ass.

prompt: moonlight
Yue uses her position in the sky to her advantage. She likes to keep an eye on Sokka and his friends and give them a little help every now and then, even if they don’t realize it.
One day she sees Sokka on the Serpent’s Pass. She sees him with a girl. A girl in a green dress and armor, red and white on her face. A warrior. One that could protect him. She listens to their conversation.
“It’s a beautiful moon,” the girl said, slightly smiling.
“Yeah, it really is,” Sokka replied, his voice shaky, and Yue’s heart ached. Get over me already, Sokka! I’m not worth being sad about!
“Look, I know you’re just trying to help, but I can take care of myself,” the girl said. And Yue knew instantly why. Sokka, get over me. It’s not your fault. I chose this fate.
“It’s just so hard losing someone you care about. Something happened at the North Pole, and I couldn’t protect someone. I don’t want anything like that to ever happen again.” It’s not your fault.
“I lost someone I cared about,” the girl confessed, smiling slightly. She’s good for him. “He didn’t die, he just went away. I only had a few days to get to know him, but he was smart and funny, and brave…” She’s talking about him. She’s amazing.
Sokka cut her off. He asked jealously, “Who is this guy? Is he taller than me?” Yue laughed. So smart, but such a dumbass.
She knew that the girl was laughing inside. “No, he’s about your height,” she teased.
“Is he better looking?”
“It IS you, stupid!” Yue was taught that stupid was a harsh word, but the way the girl said it was so full of warmth.
“Oh.”
They leaned in, eyes closed. Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!
But Sokka turned away.
“I can’t.” Sokka, you stupid, I-
“Sokka, I’m sorry…” and Yue was screaming, It’s not your fault!
And the girl-the warrior, the protector, walked away.

Many of Sokka’s favorite moments were spent talking to Suki about anything and everything. They’d had vastly different upbringings that were still somehow similar in a variety of ways. She made him think about things in another light, and her side of things almost always made sense, even if Sokka had never thought of the situation that way before.
