Ruby stayed still on her tree branch as she watched a group of huntresses in training set up camp in her forest with one of their professors nearby, keeping an eye on them. A frown crossed her lips as she drew her sword, ready to strike until her mother’s words echoed through her mind: “*Do not strike unless you’re sure you’ll win the fight.*” She slowly sheathed her sword again and started to make her way back to the bandit camp, nervous about why any huntresses would make their way out this far into bandit territory. None of her tribe had gone on any raids recently, so catching any of the academy’s eyes wasnt likely, and as far as she was aware, there hadnt been any rumor around the nearby villages about grimm getting restless or anyone that was missing, and unless it was coincidence for those huntresses to be nearby, there wasnt any any other reason she could think of as to why any of them would be out this far from the kingdom. Well, she did figure that the Schnee heiress probably had her own reasons to be out there to find dust to exploit in the future, not that there wasnt much left for her family to take in this part of the forest.
She paused as one of the branches creaked as she took a step, keeping out of sight as she heard the huntsman overseeing the huntresses in training grab his weapon. Ruby slowly turned to watch them, snapping off a small twig from a branch, getting ready to toss it to get them away from her.
“Hear something, Professor?” the Schnee heiress asked.
“Doctor,” the huntsman answered as he looked around. “And I thought I heard something in the trees. It’ll be best to keep a lookout for any grimm that may want to catch us off guard.”
The girl with the bow in her hair quickly drew her sword, glancing to the treetops. “There’s worse things than grimm out here. Bandits, thieves, rogue huntsmen… we should move camp to somewhere a little less open.”
“If you can find a cave, that might give us a bit more cover in case anyone shows up,” the blonde, a girl Ruby recognized as Raven’s other daughter, Yang, answered. “Though, Doctor Oobleck did tell us we wouldnt find much out here for shelter.”
“That is correct, Miss Xiao Long,” Doctor Oobleck answered. “We’ll have to rough it out, but that doesnt mean we have to do things the hard way. Miss Belladonna, please see if you can scout out another clearing that’s a little less open. If you cant find anything, then we’ll need to find some fallen logs to help give us a little protection from anyone that might come around. Miss Schnee, Miss Xiao Long, I need you both to walk around the perimeter of camp to see if there’s anything besides grimm watching us. I’ll guard camp, but keep an ear out for anything you miss. If everything goes well, we might be able to finally find Ruby, assuming the intel we have is correct and not leading us into a trap.”
Ruby took a step back on the branch she stood on, arms shaking as she tried to hold her balance in the tree. It had to be a different Ruby, right? She hadnt done anything to warrant any attention from huntsmen, much less anything that huntresses in training would be after. She froze as she heard the branch shake once more and a small *snap* come from it. She froze as she felt the branch start to shake and give a little from under her, trying to keep out of sight from Oobleck. Once she was sure Oobleck wasnt noticing her, she started to go walk again, carefully using another branch to take her weight off the current one and make her way back to the bandit camp.
Her heart continued to pound in her chest as she made her way back into camp, her mind racing with questions as she snuck in through a hole in the fence around the camp, trying to keep Raven from noticing she had left. As she slipped through the tents to her own, she paused at Raven’s for a moment, looking at the tent flaps that had been tied to lock it up. For a moment, Ruby had wanted to try to get in, just to look to see what her mother had to hide.
“Where were you?”
Ruby quickly turned around to find Raven behind her. “M-mother! I was here the whole time.”
“I know you werent,” Raven said. “Now, where were you?”
“I-” Ruby sighed and looked away. “I was out hunting, but I think… I think there’s someone looking for me.”
“Someone looking for you?”
“There’s a few huntresses in training and a huntsman out in the woods. They’re… they’re following a few rumors, but I heard them say my name.”
Raven sighed and went to her tent to start untying the rope that kept the opening closed. “You should ignore them.”
“But one of them was Yang!”
Raven paused for a moment and turned to look at Ruby. “Yang is out there? Looking for you?”
“Yeah. Along with a few people I assume are her team.”
“Her father probably told her tales of your mother and must’ve mentioned you along with it.”
“Yeah, but… you’re my mother. Why would mentioning you to her make her want to look for me?”
Raven sighed and started to walk into her tent. “Because I’m not your only parent, and not the one that gave birth to you. When Summer left, I promised to keep you safe and out of sight from those that would want to hurt you or lose you. So there’s no doubt that your father told her about Summer and then mentioned you as her sister. If that’s the case, then we need to leave.”
“Leave?” Ruby asked. “And what will leaving do? If Yang’s looking for me, then she’ll keep looking-”
“And she’ll get hurt or die trying. I know how this story goes.”
“Then why run? We can go to her now and tell her to stop-”
“And then she’ll continue looking for you until she can bring you back home.” Raven pinched the bridge of her nose and took a deep breath. “Tomorrow morning I’ll tell you why I left with you. But for today, I need you to stay here and out of sight from Yang and the group she’s with. If they’re looking for you, then they know you’re here. So no more visiting villages. Got it?”
“I havent-” Ruby paused when she saw Raven glare at her and sighed. “R-right, no more visiting villages.”
Raven relaxed and put a gentle hand to Ruby’s cheek. “I want to keep you safe, just like the rest of the tribe. So please, just this once, listen to me and stay here. There are worse things than grimm out here and I dont want you to end up on their sights.”

Bird Twins In A Headcanon.
If Raven or Qrow needed to be alone for a while, they would just vibe in Summer’s hood while in bird form.
Summer never minded, having known the twins upbringing often left them with no one to turn to in times of need.
Both Raven and Qrow felt safe in that hood. It was warm, comfortable and relaxing, everything their lives hadn’t been until Beacon.
Sure, they could ask to talk, or have a hug, maybe just get some advice from their friend, but it’s a lot easier to just flop into the hood of her cloak, especially when either one was gone through a particularly rough day or had some bad memory pop up.
There was also the time Tai put ice in the back of Summer’s hood during their fourth year, only minutes before Qrow popped into the hood and then proceeded to peck at Tai.

Rosebird Week 2019: Day 3
Here’s the one-shot for the Dat 3 Prompt: Mother AU. In this AU, Raven didn’t leave and Summer never disappeared, so they are both here to raise their daughters. Tai is the girls’ donor though he treats Yang and Ruby as his daughters and they, in turn, see him as their father. He did have a crush on both Summer and Raven but accepted that the two loved each other.
A/N: Some dialog at the beginning is taken from the episode Ruby Rose from the show but I changed it enough to not make it too similar.
Day 3: Mother AU
“I still can believe my baby sister is coming to Beacon with me!” Yang Xiao Long’s ecstatic shouting fills the air as the curvaceous blonde girl hugs her younger sister, a huge smile on her face. “This is the best day ever!”
The the older girl didn’t seem to notice how hard she was squeezing the red-hooded girl. “Yang…ugh… please stop!” Ruby pleads, wheezing.
“Yang let your sister breath, please,” Summer chides lightly as she walks up to her daughters with a smile on her face, the rest of her team following. “We’ve told to be careful with your hugs since you’re stronger than most people.”
“Oh, oops,” the blonde girl looks sheepish. “My bad!” And she releases her sister, allowing Ruby to breathe again. “Sorry, but I’m so proud of you!”
“We all are,” clarifies Tai.
“Yeah,” Qrow agrees as he takes a swig from his flask. “It’s not every day that you get admitted into Beacon two years early.”
“Personally, I’m not surprised,” says Raven as she crosses her arms. “Afterall, children tend to take after their parents.” And she directs a proud smirk at Summer, who’d blushes at the praise, feeling embarrassed but also pleased.
“Really everyone, it was nothing.” Ruby was trying hard to hide her red face in her equally red hood.
“It wasn't nothing!” exclaims Tai.
“You’re being too modest,” Raven glances at Summer as she says this, as the older, hooded woman also tends to downplay her accomplishments.
“Yeah,” adds Qrow. “Not many 15-year-olds can singlehandedly stop a robbery.” He takes another drink from his flask. “Sure, you didn’t catch that Torchwick guy but it still impressed Oz.”
“Yeah, it was incredible!” exclaims Yang. “Everyone at Beacon will think you’re the bee’s knees!”
Ruby didn’t seem to find that to be a good thing. “But I don’t want to be the ‘bee’s knees’, or any kind of knees! I just want to be a normal girl with normal knees.”
“That expression doesn’t really have anything to do with knees,” Tai points out, but he’s ignored.
“What with you?” yang was confused by her little sister apparent lack of enthusiasm. “Aren’t you excited?”
“Of course I’m excited… I just…” the red-hooded girl sighs, looking down. “I don’t want people treating me weird just because I got moved ahead two years. What if I’m not as good as they expect me to be?”
Looks of comprehension came to everyone’s face as they realize what is really bothering Ruby. Summer especially understands better than anyone what her younger daughter is going through. So, she walks up to Ruby and cups her cheek, making the young girl lifts her head so that their matching silver eyes met.
“I get it, Ruby,” Summer says with a reassuring smile. “I was nervous about going to Beacon early, too. I was scared that I might not live up to the expectations that were placed on me and disappoint everyone.”
That surprises Ruby as she couldn’t imagine her mother fearing anything. She was one of the best Huntresses that had graduated Beacon and had destroyed many powerful Grimm, either by herself or with her team.
“But I didn’t let that nervousness overcome me because I remembered all of the people who believed in me and I knew that I wouldn’t let them down.” Summer places her hands on Ruby’s shoulders. “You too have people who believe in you, Little Rose, so I know that you won’t let anyone down.”
Ruby stares at her mother in awe for a moment before her smile widens until it is as bright as Summer’s, and both hooded Roses hug, the rest of their family joining a second later.
The speakers suddenly announce that the flight for Beacon is now boarding and the Xia Long-Branwen-Rose family disengages from the hug. With one last good-bye, Ruby and Yang join the other passengers in boarding the airship, and a short while later the aircraft has flown away towards Beacon.
The four members of Team STRQ watch the airship leave and once it’s out of sight, the quartet heads home, Tai and Qrow taking the lead while Raven and Summer hang back.
Summer sighs, “I already miss them.”
Raven rolls her eyes but smiles. “It hasn’t even been half-an-hour.”
“I know but now I’m thinking how empty the house will be without them.”
“I know but we should enjoy the peace and quiet while it lasts since it will be noisier than normal on the holidays.” Raven points out. “Especially if the girls decide to invite their future teammates over.”
“Hmm, you do have a point,” Summer then gasps as something occurs to her. “What if they bring a special someone over?” she seems excited at the prospect.
Raven’s eyebrow raises. “Well, I can see Yang doing that, Ruby?” she scoffs. “That’ll be a surprise.”
“Well, I did find you,” they stop for a moment and Summer kisses Raven, the dark-haired quickly reciprocates. Separating, the lovers hold gazes, small smiles on their faces. “So, I don’t think that we should be worried about that.”
“Hmhm, you’re right as always,” Raven chuckles and goes back to kissing the love of her life.
This one was kinda hard to write even if it’s not as long as the previous two. With luck, I might be able to write and upload the next one-shot later today and I’ll be trying to finish the rest by tomorrow.

... Again, I agree with half of this: Ozpin didn’t manipulate Pyrrha into distancing herself. Pyrrha herself did that once with Jaune and of her own accord.

Okay, that’s pretty conspiracy level stuff. Why would Ozpin WANT either dead? And we never heard that Sumemr died by herself: Qrow and Taiyang could have been there as well. And the whole thing is iffy: Ozpin has never lied or told half truths, even when it could have benefited himself (he could have blamed his curse on Salem mind you). Yes, he didn’t say everything but this is kind of like with Kyuubey from Madoka Magica: A person is responsible for not asking all the questions. yes Ozpin is iffy for this but when asked or demanded he’s truthful.
“Once again, this is not to exonerate her easily, but it is enough to put significant doubt into the idea that her leaving was entirely selfishly motivated. Especially given that it’s evident she does actually care about both Taiyang and Yang, given how she treats them.“
Okay, here I say NO. Ozpin being iffy doesn’t excuse ANYTHING about Raven or even give a proper explanation. Not only that but Raven HERSELF admits she’s being selfish so I dunno why that’s up for debate.
As for the “how she treats them” argument: With Taiyang, she left him with a child out of the blue while he couldn’t possibly know how to raise Yang alone, without a note to explain why she left irrepairably damaging him in a world where literal demons will eat you if you show negative emotion. And I bring up Taiyang because Raven hurt literally EVERYONE ELSE WORSE: She hurt Qrow more by betraying a man who obviously values loyalty after he gave her so many chances and she hurt Yang more by trying to manipulate her, dangle false hope in her face, insult her family, try to gaslight her into thinking Qrow and Ruby where untrustworthy and then tried lashing out against Yang for telling the truth. This isn’t even accounting for her Semblance which makes EVERYTHING worse.
It’s telling that Taiyang actually served a relationship with Yang to Raven on a silver platter, building her up as a noble anti-hero who, while flawed, was ultimately good and yet Raven STILL screwed it up.
“ (And the fact the first person she goes back to is Taiyang after the events at Haven).”
Small point but Raven had nowhere else to go: Qrow would kill her, vernal is dead and she’s running from Yang.
“She encourages Yang to make her own decisions and not to easily defer to authority (and continues to encourage it when her daughter calls her on it.) “
This is an outright lie: in episode 14, Raven gets pissy when Yang questions her. Raven didn’t want Yang to question things, she wanted Yang to question everyone BUT her. Hence why she tries to paint herself as a truthful person.
“ and at the culmination of the events at Haven, it’s clear that she doesn’t want Yang to take the relic purely because it makes her (Yang) a target. Forsaking one’s own safety rather than condemning someone else to that same danger, I would argue, is a very honorable trait.“
Yeah, she doesn’t want Yang to do it...and yet she does it anyway with Raven running away. Raven DIDN’T do that, Yang DID. That was YANG who did it and RAVEN was the coward.
“Simply put, it’s extremely misleading to narrow down her motivations to something so simplistic, as well as to say that we as viewers shouldn’t sympathize with her because of that. She’s arguably the single most complex character in the show at this moment and as a result I immensely enjoy her appearances.”
Look, you can enjoy Raven all you want. I don’t care about that. But to mem at least, Raven is one of the most simple characters in the show. Her motivation? Self interest and Cowardice. Way of dealing with things? Basic tactics before using brute force. Flaws? Coward and traitor. Raven has no excuses for her actions, especially with her Semblance.

Flashback (Final Rose AU)
Ruby would have moaned, but her lips were currently occupied. Even so, the small whimper that managed to escape her prompted a low rumble of possessiveness from the pink-haired girl who had her hoisted up against the tree. Dating and everything was still quite new to her, but Averia had been very patient.
Until now.
She had overheard Yang talking about a few things she was doing to entice Blake into taking their relationship a little further, and she had decided to give a few of them a try herself. For more than week, she’d been convinced that her efforts were having no effect at all. Averia hadn’t so much as blinked an eye, no matter what she did.
Until a few minutes ago.
Apparently, Averia was very, very good at appearing calm and collected. She was also apparently very, very good at kissing. Now, part of Ruby was curious, and maybe a little mad. Where had Averia learned to kiss so well? However, a much larger part of her was devoted to holding on to the other girl and kissing her back as best she could, given the way Averia had hoisted her up against the tree.
Normally, Ruby was a bit annoyed at being shorter than Averia. The other girl wasn’t the tallest girl in their year. That particular honour went to Claire who towered over all of the girls and almost all of the boys too. At the moment, she couldn’t be happier about being shorter.
It meant Averia had to lift her up to kiss her more easily, and Ruby loved the way that felt. Even better, Averia had swiftly discovered that holding Ruby and kissing her at the same time could be complicated if she wasn’t careful where she put her hands. At some point, Averia had opted to simply cup Ruby’s bottom with both hands and lift, prompting another sigh of pleasure from the dark-haired girl.
Really, Ruby could have done this forever - she wasn’t ready for more yet, but this was plenty for the time being. Alas, their time together was cut short by an amused chuckle. Indeed, it was a testament to how occupied Averia was that she hadn’t noticed. Years of prank wars against Diana had honed Averia’s danger sense to an incredible degree, and Ruby was in no condition to be looking out for people.
“It seems they found our old make out spot,” Summer drawled as Averia hastily put Ruby down and turned to face the interlopers. Ruby swallowed thickly and tried to get her breathing under control, glad that she could use Averia as a human shield as she tried to compose herself.
“Hello, Aunt Summer,” Averia said before adding, “And you too, mother.”
“Well, hello to you,” Sumemr replied cheerfully. “And hello to Ruby too! It seems you two have grown closer since you started your second year at Beacon.”
Ruby was amazed that Averia somehow managed to keep from flinching. Still, she could feel the slightest ripple of Averia’s Semblance. She was drawing on some of the Saviour’s emotional dampening. Damn it. Ruby wished she had a Semblance that could do that, and running was not an option.
“It would seem so,” Averia replied evenly.
“Now,” Summer said. “I would normally threaten anyone I caught kissing my little Ruby, but I think you already know what will happen to you if you hurt her. Saviour or not, I’ll find a way to get you. But I don’t think that’ll happen. In fact…” Summer giggled. “I’m quite pleased. I know what it’s like to be with a Farron so -”
“Do not finish that sentence,” Lightning snapped. Her eyes narrowed. “Ruby,” she said. “Stop hiding.”
Ruby peeked out from behind Averia. “Uh… hi?”
“Don’t worry, I’m not going to murder you.” Lightning sighed. “And I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but you better not be toying with Averia’s heart.”
Averia, Summer, and Ruby all looked at Lightning like she was insane.
“I don’t think Ruby is the sort of person to do that,” Averia said.
“Yeah, I’m not good at dating. Like… at all,” Ruby added.
Summer chuckled. “As much as I love my daughter, Lightning, she’s not exactly a temptress.”
“Whatever,” Lightning said. “I can’t say that I’m… displeased by this, but I would have liked to have been informed.” Her eyes narrowed. “It would explain all of those ‘training sessions’ you two have been doing.”
“Oh?” Summer’s eyes gleamed. “If they’re anything like ours were -”
“But we were training,” Ruby said, blinking. “Averia has been teaching me how to handle a knife since a scythe isn’t exactly great up close.”
“And by handling a knife,” Summer said. “You mean…”
“She means I’ve been showing her how to use a knife. That is it.” Averia stared at Summer and her mother. “What were you two doing?”
“We -”
“Do not answer that,” Lightning ground out. She cleared her throat. “Anyway, Summer and I were just about to get lunch. You two will be joining us.” Lighting smiled thinly. “Your mom will be there too, Averia, as will your father, Ruby. I imagine they’ll be interested in what we just saw.”
“Aunt Lightning…” Ruby whined. “You can’t tell my dad. He’s going to try to murder Averia.”
“On the upside,” Averia drawled. “My mom won’t try to murder you. She’ll tease me though. A lot. Forever.”
“Tough luck,” Lightning said. “Now, come on.”

God I’m playing that new game in the Nintendo switch, sport fareer. It just hits so deep, I know a lot of it is playing in fact that I’ve never had a family I was close to out side my immediate family, and to just to meet all the characters from your family that just love you so much, only for you to say good bye to them in the end, it’s killing me.
It’s such a good game, I never cry at games and this one has made me cry three times

And the worst part is, there is no fairy tell ending, they don’t get better, they have to accept their life and circumstances where in order to move on.
I’ve took Gwen, Alice, and I just took Summer, and man they all wreck me but Sumemr’s ending was the first that completely over whelmed me. I had to put the game down. She didn’t want to go, she loved Rose so much, she loved Stella so much, she was looking forward to Stella so many things and her (pretty sure) depression hit the best of her just like her father, and it was only getting worse so it was the right call to take her to the gate, but she had fought so hard and tried to accept and love that part of herself, god I’m gonna miss her and how she’s calls Stella her little Honey bee.

Or how about the fact that Ruby can’t say anything but the brutal truth, just like you? Or how about the fact that even after all of the stuff she suffered, she kept pushing onward, just like you. No doubt to me she’s your kid.
