bnha chapter 362 has emotionally scarred me and i don't think i'll really recover from this. ever. so, major spoilers for bnha 362 under the cut, because i have thoughts, and i decided to not confine them to my friend's dms for once.

from a person who was a bakugo hater from the beginning of bnha to the sports festival arc, where i began to appreciate his character a little more, to eventually becoming a bakugo lover because i genuinely think he's one of the best written characters, i am d e v a s t a t e d.

i have a track record of liking characters that usually end up dead later on in the series, and this usually ranges from villains to protags to just side characters, and i think this is the most pain/surprise i've felt at one.

bakugo dying was honestly was one of the biggest plot twists ive seen horikoshi execute, because i genuinely do not think anyone expected it? i have never once seen a "bakugo dying" theory, although i'm sure some (or many) exist. whenever i thought of the ending of bnha, i always expected bakugo to be there at the end with deku (which i think was the general consensus of the fandom as well), and it was honestly shocking to see that image shattered by this chapter.

ofc, im saying all of this on the assumption that he's permanently dead, and with no malicious intent or hate to horikoshi for his decision - funnily enough, my favourite character dying is exactly what's gotten me back into actively wanting to keep up with the final arc, especially since my other favourite characters, dabi and todoroki, had what i considered an underwhelming face off (but i still think there's more to come on that front, or, at least, i hope.)

i also think the circumstances around bakugo's death were extremely sad.

his last thoughts were him wondering if he would ever catch up to deku, and that honestly broke my heart. i, personally, never paid much thought to how inferior (?) he had felt to deku in terms of their standing with all might, quirks wise, etc, after their conversation at ground zero that time (which is easily one of my favourite scenes in the whole show). the spotlight kind of faded away from that and onto other things and povs, so i kind of just assumed it was done and over with. bakugo was atoning, trying his best to help deku, cared for him in his own way, and it felt like he was growing and had become a lot more sure of himself, which is he had, and always had been in himself.

after all, this is the kid who went into that sports festival saying he would place first and actually did it.

it's even worse when i realised that bakugo nearly died, and then actually died, to the one person who technically saw him as nothing more than midoriya's best friend - he died to the one person in who's eyes he was never out of his friend's shadow.

but to a lot of other people, he hadn't been in midoriya's shadow. all might may have seen them as a package deal, and also focused more on midoriya for obvious reasons, but i doubt he ever considered bakugo to be secondary or inferior to midoriya. bakugo made himself known and was acknowledged by all of his peers as his own person.

he also had great mentors, like jeanist, who clearly cared for the boy and also acknowledged him as his own person with his own personality, techniques, dreams and goals.

personally, the most heartbreaking acknowledgement was aizawa screaming for someone to save bakugo so that he could become the number one hero in the future (chpt. 360, i think). i think i broke at that point, before bakugo even died.

bakugo had confidence in himself, but perhaps it was fragile when it came to this, and ofc i doubt he had much time to focus on himself aside from training and fighting, seeing as there was a war going on. maybe hearing it from shigaraki just made him wonder again.

i also think the whole sun eater pov in the previous chapter was quite nice to read. and then i got hit with the bakugo dying one chapter later, and that's when it really sunk in that that they were just kids, and even then it's just slightly older kids (the ua big three) fighting to save this one kid who's on the verge of death.

and, well, now bakugo isn't getting a graduation. lol, but like, in pain.

i, do, however, hold out hope for a comeback, possibly soon. not an entire revival, but aside from the "nitroglycerin has revival properties" theories, bakugo was interrupted in the middle of very explosive moves and combos, twice, by shigaraki. i don't think that won't have consequences, and i can only pray that he has an impact even after he's passed on.

in that way, i also felt like i should have expected bakugo to die, but i didn't. in a way, it makes sense. he's one of the main characters who's powerful and impactful emotionally to both the readers and the characters. his conflict with deku just ended, and they reconciled. bakugo gave his apology to deku, and had been atoning for ages before. we didn't get many panels or much spotlight on him after the vigilante arc, and the second we did, i should've seen it coming.

he's been extremely well written and gone through several arcs of character development - and, well, i don't think there's a lot more hori could have done with him, but i think everything is fine if he'd continued being a character just existing with the amount of development he did go through. like, it's alright to stagnate at that point, if that makes sense.

(sighs heavily) honestly, maybe me liking a character is a curse that immediately kills them /j

speaking of them just be kids, though, i think this panel broke me entirely with no hope for resuscitation (like bakugo ahaha /j) :

he's just a kid. like. damn.

also, when we all expected bakugo to have a connection to the second user, i didn't think it'd be like this, and end up with him dying 😭.

and speaking of ofa users, im looking forward to seeing deku absolutely losing it.

i have no idea what the point of this very wordy post was. i guess the only conclusion is that user merakimegumi loves bakugo very much and is quite devastated at his death, but holds out some hope for a revival. i wouldn't even be mad if horikoshi brought him back (maybe storytelling wise, maybe, but i think i'd mostly just cry from relief).

anyways, i still have more thoughts but it's 5 am, i'm procrastinating something, and i'm not able to think quite clearly.

funnily enough, though, a lot of good things have happened after that chapter tho. like damn, bakugo died before bsd S4 released? that's kind of funny 😭 /j

BNHA

La nitroglicerina corría por todos los recovecos del traje de Bakugo. Su sangre y su sudor se concatenaban en sus venas, dotando a su cuerpo de una sensación abrumadora de energía en bruto. Sus ojos, llenos de terror ante Shigaraki, el Terror Encarnado, sin embargo, solo podían vibrar de miedo ante la sombra de su propia muerte.

Un golpe de Shigaraki destruyó el pómulo izquierdo de su rostro. Un revoltijo de manos y material orgánico asió su mano derecha y otro puño destruyó las costillas y parte del esternón. En un último intento, levantó la mano derecha e hizo combustión, quemando todo el sudor yaciendo en su piel. La explosión le cegó, apestó el sitio a carne quemada y por un momento sitió el mismo quemarse, pero le dió el tiempo para embardunar su mano libre con la sangre de su cuerpo, tal vez pudiendo aprovechar el sudor de su sangre, pero era demasiado tarde.

Otro apéndice de carne salió disparado de otra parte con miles de bocas chasqueantes hacia el cuerpo de Bakugo. El chico, lejos de cerrar los ojos, mantener una postura estoica como cualquier otro héroe, como un gran héroe de los cómics, como lo haría All-Might, gritó, olvidó que hacer. No quería morir. En los segundos en que ese apéndice de bocas mortales iba hacia él se desgañitó, suplicó por piedad y las lágrimas recorrieron su rostro nublando su vista en sangre, humo, sudor, gritos y lágrimas.

Una pata de conejo robótica cayó sobre el apéndice de bocas. Unos guantes rojos rodeando mangas blancas surgieron del suelo, con Lemillion siguiéndolas a velocidad vertiginosa. Mientras Mirko entretenía a Shigaraki, Lemillion rápidamente destruyó la carne que sostenía a Bakugo, con golpes precisos a la carne, usando su don para evitar ser dañado, liberándolo de su presa.

Irracionalmente, el chico tuvo su reacción premeditada cada vez que alguien se paraba a ayudarlo. Tal como hizo ese maldito nerd hace tantos años.

Sin embargo, había algo diferente esta vez.

—¡No me salves, maldito rubio con capa! —las palabras era lo que estaba acostumbrado a decir, pero su tono lloroso y tembloroso sacó una sonrisa a Lemillion antes que irritarlo.

El héroe corrió con Bákugo a los hombros intentando salir de la cárcel de carne en que los estaba envolviendo Shigaraki. Los otros héroes estaban combatiendo con bravura. Perdían energía, perdían emociones, sangre, extremidades y antes que luchar parecía que evitaban morir, pero seguían adelante. Eso es lo que vió Bakugo en los hombros de Lemillion. Una enorme oleada de poder distrajo a Shigaraki —probablemente cosa de Sun Eater—, lo que les dió unos segundos para escapar. Sortearon un cúmulo de manos, una enorme mandíbula por poco atrapa las piernas de Mirio, y finalmente llegaron a un punto de la explanada de la Academia llena de pasto, al límite de la jaula de Shigaraki.

Sin embargo, ese parecía haber sido el momento que había estado esperando el Terror Encarnado. De repente, una oleada de carne se abalanzó hacia los dos estudiantes, con formaciones de cartílago y hueso antes que músculo en sí, y atacaron en conjunto. Mirio tuvo que soltar a Bakugo para que este no muriera empalado en sus hombros. Bakugo, frío, entumecido por la pérdida de sangre y el dolor ardiente de su pecho y su rostro, cansado a mas no poder, observó como Lemillion combatía para evitar su muerte.

Tal y como All-Might lo había hecho en su momento.

No, nononononono. Eso no iba a ocurrir otra vez. Bakugo empezó a arrastrarse fuera, sacando fuerza de la adrenalina para arrastrarse buscando un hueco fuera de la jaula, lejos de Lemillion. ¡No iba a dejar que otro héroe muriera por su maldita culpa!

Pero, por supuesto, tratar de escapar del Terror Encarnado era risible. Al momento en que los ojos en los apéndices carnosos de Shigaraki observaron a Bakugo alejándose de Lemillion a la distancia, sonrió con malicia y aprovechó el momento. Bloqueó un puñetazo de Mirko, escupió veneno de Sun Eater y dió la orden. La sinapsis recorrió las neuronas en su cerebro, llegó a su sistema nervioso y recorrió los apéndices de carne en un abrir y cerrar de ojos. Un millar de apéndices se abalanzaron sobre Bakugo con huesos puntiagudos en las puntas, crueles colmillos de una bestia cirniéndose sobre su presa.

Y Bakugo lo vió. No tenía ni siquiera fuerza para gritar. Alcanzó a vislumbrar a Lemillion gritando y yendo hacia él.

No, no por favor...

El cuerpo de Lemillion, físico, recibió el millar de espinas óseas en su cuerpo, habiéndose transportado en el suelo activando su don con microsegundos de diferencia. Logró cubrir el cuerpo de Bakugo a tiempo, pero algunas espinas encajaron en la mano del chico. Se encontró sollozando, volteando la cara para mirar a Mirio, su salvador. En la distancia, Nejire había combinado Gring Wave y Gring Flood en una oleada de poder tan explosiva como Hotwizer Impact. Puede que incluso mas. Bakugo no era el único que sollozaba. Todos estaban gritando de una manera u otra al ver a Mirio empalado. Atacando o siendo atacados por Shigaraki.

—¡¿Por qué?! ¿PORQUE?! —algo en lo mas profundo de Bakugo se había roto. Logró darse la vuelta debajo de Mirio. La jaula de huesos se había ido y al parecer alguien había logrado distraer a Shigaraki de ellos. Bakugo vió a Edgshot inflitrándose en las vetas de carne de Shigaraki. Pero no importaba. Desde su disculpa con Deku algo había estado completamente mal dentro de él, y ese malestar lo había cubierto con su fachada arrogante. Pero ahora no había salida—. ¿¡Porque tu?! ¿¡Y Deku, y All-Might?! ¿porqué la gente sigue salvándome cuando yo… cuando yo no valgo la pena?! —una oleada de sollozos lo invadió, mientras salía debajo del cuerpo de Mirio e intentaba arrastrar al héroe lejos de la batalla. El dolor de su impotencia era tan grande que tropezó. Su cabeza no solo estaba nublada por el cansancio. Todo lo que había dicho Shigaraki era cierto y la culpa roía tan fuerte sus entrañas que vomitó.

¿Así... así era la impotencia de Deku al no tener un don?

Vió otra descarga de poder que lo tumbó de espaldas. Edgeshot salió del cuerpo de Shigaraki, habiéndolo dañado profundamente. Nejire y Sun Eater estaban bombardeando a Shigaraki con todo lo que tenían. Y Bakugo...

Bakugo no había servido de nada. Las lágrimas surcaban su rostro mientras se ponía de rodillas. Impotente.

Derrotado.

—Nosotros... —escuchó decir a Mirio, tosiendo sangre. No creía que siguiera vivo. Bakugo ya no sabía en que creer. Se acercó a Mirio y se aferró a su cuerpo, a su voz—. Nosotros seguimos adelante pase lo que pase —el joven héroe estaba lleno de sangre, bocabajo. Con una fuerza que debió haberle costado todo, Mirio apoyó un brazo y se puso de lado. Bakugo lo ayudó a ponerse boca arriba, y sostuvo su cabeza, todavía con las lágrimas nublándole los ojos.

Sonreía.

Mirio estaba sonriendo.

—Si hay algo que todos los pros saben, es que todos merecen ser salvados, Bakugo. Así sea aquellos que parece que no lo merecen.

Edgshot estaba corriendo hacia él. Gritaba.

—Puede parecer algo estúpido, pero… los héroes somos algo mucho mas fuerte cuando todo está contra nosotros.

Edgeshot, sin explicar nada, sin decir nada, rápidamente se convirtió en fibras de papel minúsculas, filtrándose en el cuerpo de Mirio, manipulando su carne. Mas hondo. Manipulando sus células, adelgazando su fibra hasta niveles moleculares. Cerca de la muerte. Pero todo era por Mirio. Pudo estimular sus células correctamente, desvió calorías y nutrientes hacia este lado y el otro. Rellenó los huecos que faltaban consigo mismo y transmitió el mensaje en la cabeza de Mirio.

El joven héroe dejó de sangrar y mientras se levantaba con un quejido de dolor.

—La esperanza de estar juntos, es lo que nos impulsa a todos nosotros, Dynamight.

Y ahí estaba Lemillion —Mirio Togata— alzado. Invencible y sempiterno. Una mano alzada hacia él. Hacia Bakugo.

—Ven conmigo. Salvaremos a cualquiera que podamos. ¡¡Salvaremos a cualquiera que lo necesite, porque juntos somos mas de lo que somos, Dynamight!!

La mano se extendía hacia él. Miles de recuerdos y emociones presionaban detrás de los ojos de Bakugo. La voz de su madre, la ausencia de su padre. La adulación de sus amigos de la infancia, la alegría de Deku, la... furia y el rencor porque todos estaban juntos. Menos él. "¡Tómala!" parecieron decir Kaminari y Kirishima. "Tómala", ordenó All-Might. "¡¡Tómala!!" dijeron Deku y su madre. "Tómala" pareció susurrar Uraraka. Las voces en su cabeza pujaban, y el...

La tomó. Su cuerpo, su instinto tomaron la mano y la mano tiró de él, mientras apretada los dientes y se limpiaba las lágrimas. Lo levantó. Mirio corrió, y Bakugo —Dynamight— fue detrás de él. Empezó a correr. Un grito se formaba en su garganta, corriendo, escapando, ¡Entrando! ¡¡Renaciendo!! No importaba si moría ahora porque lo había logrado. Había corrido lo que había que correr. Y seguiría corriendo. Correría todo lo que tenía para correr. Todo esa danza en el interior de Bakugo se condensó en sus manos, y cuando llegó a Shigaraki salió con una explosión, tan grande, tan poderosa, tan cálida, que pareció casi destruir una parte del maldito campus, gritándo el “¡¡SHINEEEE!!” mas grande de su vida destrozándose la garganta. Fue como una explosión de mil soles, una esfera de fuego que por un momento pareció rodear el mundo entero, tan grande y basta como la liberación que sentía Bakugo en su pecho.

Ataque definitivo: Nuclear Dynamight

No se destruyó el campus. La estructura aguantó, con un hueco en el techo de cristal, pero cuando se despejó el humo de la explosión, Mirio, Nejire, Sun Eater, Edgshot, Mirko, y su maestro lo miraban asombrados. Mirio le sonreía cálidamente. Y Bakugo... si. Bákugo devolvió la sonrisa. Dolía horrores con medio rostro deshecho. Aún tenía unas lágrimas en el rostro.  Demonios. Se sentía bien.

Una sombra se removió en el humo. No había acabado. El Terror Encarnado volvía una vez mas.

—¡Firmes! —gritó Mirio—, tenemos que resistir hasta la llegada de Deku. Nejire, arriba. Sun Eater, por detrás. Y Dyanamight... conmigo —Bakugo asintió. Una fibra de papel salió de las heridas de Lemillion y formó la figura de Edgshot. No medió palabra alguna, solo asintió a Lemillion y se introdujo en el cuerpo de Bakugo. Su dolor, empezó a remitir.

Todos estaban en formación en el momento en que Shigaraki, quemado, con músculos y venas al aire, regenerando partes de su cuerpo hechas polvo, salió como un monstruo de las profundidades del infierno, con un quejido emanando de su garganta. Un quejido que no era humano ni animal. Era el quejido de un monstruo. Y se acercaba enloquecido.

Bakugo tuvo miedo. Y luego se sobrepuso. Se sorprendió de lo fácil que pareció. El combate dió inició otra vez mientras Edgshot salía de su cuerpo, dejándolo en un mejor estado.

Bakugo siguió luchando. Seguiría luchando. Estaba junto a quienes siempre había querido acompañar en combate, estaba siendo el mismo con los otros.

Así seguiría hasta que llegara Deku y pudiera sorprenderse de su nuevo yo. Que ganas tenía de verlo de repente.
