I get that people are jumping the gun, because that‘s what people do. BUT:
Can we stop blaming Sesshoumaru for Sunrise‘s shitty decisions? I see nobody blaming InuKag for being absent parents, but Sesshoumaru is blamed for a development that goes against everything he stands for? You guys KNOW that the entire premise of Yashahime was shit from the start, yet you still watched and clowned yourselves week after week.
So, can we
a) Stop calling Yashahime a sequel
b) Realize that Yashahime is not canon
c) Actually use our brains and realize that it’s not canon for reasons that go way beyond „Takahashi didn‘t write it mimimi“. Once again for those that have not been paying attention:
Yashahime is based on the charity chapter 559. Chapter 559 retcons something massive: Rin being in her early teens. No, seriously, go back and look at it. Rin has shrunk and is an 8 year old again. It‘s generally accepted that any material that actively retcons established rules, characters etc... in the original source material is not canon.
The charity chapter is not canon. Yashahime is BASED on said chapter, so it‘s not canon by default. I‘ve said this a million times and have been ignored.
All of the OG characters from Inuyasha were great or even excellent characters in their own right. Not a SINGLE ONE OF THEM has been treated right by this shitshow. The vitriol now aimed at Sesshoumaru instead of the real-life company that created this nightmare is unbelievable, but so typical.
You guys are free to „ironically“ clown yourselves in your own post, but this kind of „awareness“ tastes extremely cheap. Sure, holding on to hope is definitely both understandable and your right. But it does boil down to this: You guys supported this crap. Take some accountability and at least get your priorities straight on who to blame for this fanfiction from hell.
I for one am glad that the original material still exists. I will not cancel it, because neither Sunrise nor fandom have a say in what Ienjoy, no matter how much they try. If you are truly angry and disgusted: Drop Yashahime and return to the original Inuyasha.
You‘ll be okay.

New theory: Sunrise legitimately forgot about the Mirsan twins and that’s why they still look like babies on the character sheet. The studio didn’t animate adult versions of them and they wouldn’t be in the sequel at all.

I don’t want to give Sunrise credit, because I’m sure they’re not this deep-
If the twins were yeeted and abandoned into the forrest how did they learn language? Twins will often make their own languages with each other but specifically how did they learn Japanese?
Real life children who are yeeted into the woods or aren’t exposed to language don’t learn it. Language learning is a social activity
This would- logically- point to parental involvement. Towa was 4 she might also be an unreliable narrator but Imma go with #sunriselogic which got Setsuna learning the violin immediately. Probably go anywhere and just learn the language.

Just imagine the ULTIMATE plot twist after we‘ve gone through all this bullshit. Imagine if:
Yes, Rin was (against all fucking odds) in the tree, but she STILL wasn’t the mother.
Just imagine it, as a sweet daydream to counter the current nightmare of #sunriselogic.
Sesshoumaru, my poor, poor victim of fandom popularity. They‘ve done you DIRTY.
Edit: Just to reiterate: I wish he didn‘t have any kids at ALL. This is so stupid.

From what I understood, Sesshomaru renounced his title to stay with Rin in the tree to keep her sleep from becoming eternal somehow (based on what Kikyou asked him in the end). He couldn't do his duties as Lord of the West while he's somewhere between times after all.
Individual interpretation is a thing, this one happens to be yours. We’ll see where it goes! My interpretation is a bit different: The way Treekyo spoke of the happenings seemed to imply that Sesshoumaru walked away from this „title“ the moment Touga died and the duty to balance things out technically fell to him. Otherwise, what the hell was he doing walking around without ever engaging Kirinmaru? Mr. „I’m looking for and want to face the strongest foes only“ not going against someone who is actually in his league or above? Yeah, sounds unlikely to me, so logically, this decision should have happened regardless of Rin...
... is what I WOULD say if I had any faith that Sunrise writes a story that is in the interest of actually improving the Inuyasha lore instead of retconning it. This entire trope of „mega powerful dad actually didn‘t defeat jack shit“ to give only the offspring any time to shine is super tiresome. It got old with Inuyasha fast, it’s sleep-inducing now. Then again, it’s not like Sesshoumaru gained a stupidly overpowered sword at the end of the series, so I suppose there really WAS nothing he could have done about Kirinmaru... (I hope the sarcasm is clear to all)
Instead, three 14-year old girls will defeat the two most powerful demons in Inuyasha lore, through THE POWER OF BEING OFFSPRING, TRUE FRIENDSHIP AND #SUNRISELOGIC.

It wouldn't be much of a problem if Sunrise at least made Rin an adult and have a considerable amount of time away from Sess so she could grown as her own person. But I guess even that's too much to ask for. She doesn't just look young, her speech mannerism is also still that of a child (using third person pronoun). Even worse, Sess kept visiting her frequently. I'm surprised by how many shippers are still okay with this scenario, turns out 'I only ship adult Rin' was all a lie huh.
Any demand for a better written story falls on deaf ears where this cash grab fanfiction is concerned, both with Sunrise as well as the fans on here that keep clowning themselves because they can‘t resist the obvious „OG character“ bait. I want to reiterate that Yashahime sucks on ALL fronts: Story, animation, respect for the original material. Absolutely NONE of the characters have been treated with the time and thought they deserve. I have stopped calling this worst of all fanfictions a sequel months ago.
As for SessRin: It‘s understandable, annoying and unnecessary all wrapped into one to keep rehashing the reasons as to why SessRin - the way most vocal shippers want it to happen at the moment - is not acceptable. My martial arts teacher taught me: Do not cast pearls (aka your time) before swines (aka people whose opinion you want to change). I‘ll repeat: Arguing with SessRin shippers is exactly like arguing with flat-earthers, trumpers or conspiracy theorists in general. They are not interested in facts that might get them to change their opinion, God forbid even change the way they view the world.
It‘s not worth it.

Shaking my head at all the theories claiming „everyone is in the tree and in need of saving!!!“
Do we really want to believe that a charity demon has enough power to overwhelm Kagome? Inuyasha? SESSHOUMARU? All of them COMBINED?
Sadly enough, Sunrise could pull that out of their ass off and people would just eat it up.
Le sigh... BUT at least we can hopefully play another round of #sunriselogic once Saturday hits us like a truck 😃 (aka 😭).

One thing that is bothering me is that, if SessRin happens for real my big question is: why would Rin just go along with Sesshomaru just yanking the kids away from her after giving birth to them? I have a hard time believing any mother would just go along with it, no matter how dedicated they are to the husband.
It‘s a good question and you should ask it. I made a post recently where I said that this is actually the only REAL indicator that the mom could be Rin, because she‘s the only female character written with the blind devotion necessary to let him get away with this, because Rin has never seriously questioned Sesshoumaru’s character or actions. Her adult self/character (IF she is an adult, she still looks 15) literally isn‘t canon yet because Sunrise smoothly circumvented that by having her be asleep (jfc I still can‘t believe that). They‘re really trying their hardest to not put any actual thought into character arcs or respecting past developments, so I don‘t think teen Rin will be much different to child Rin. Is it clear that I despise Sunrise yet?
Oh, and Rin was of course written with this blind devotion because she was a c h i l d in the original series, hinthintHINT. Just for those that didn‘t quite catch my meaning.

If I ever continue working on fanfiction, I will call the main villain „Yashahime“.
Yashahime will be a huge, shadowy, jumbled mass of nothing and confusion, making every single character forget who they are and what they stand for, except Kaede because she is already senile and keeps a diary for that very reason. It will be up to our QUEEN to save them all and to get them to travel to the past (probably gonna use a charity demon from a retcon-chapter, but that‘s tbd) to undo the abomination that disturbed their peaceful lives.

To those still waiting to see the OG cast: You‘re not really going to see them in any meaningful way in the near future. That‘s how baiting works and it‘s working beautifully. I understand that people genuinely like the NCT (non-canon trio lol), but even more people are asking to know what‘s up with the inutachi. Sunrise won‘t give them significant screentime until we‘re nearing the end.
Another suspicion I have: Until a short while ago, Richard Ian Cox didn‘t know if he was going to be involved in the dubbing and I have no reason to think that he would answer an ask only to lie or hide something. Going by that assumption, the return of so many of the OG cast on such relatively short notice makes me think that there isn‘t going to be a lot TO dub over. I could be wrong, but this is one more theory that I‘m more excited about to find out than Yashahime itself lol.

tbh i think they keep bringing touga up so when they reveal rin as the mother, they can make fun of or point out sesshoumaru ended up just like his dad. i'm cynical tho.
Could you please NOT bring my absolute worst nightmare into my own ask box 😭?? Sesshoumaru is nothing like his father (yet), and any other suggestion by Sunrise is automatically refuted by me. To clarify: I‘m at a point where ANYTHING that happens in Yashahime is just another bit of fanfiction for me ✌️. I don‘t even call it a sequel anymore.

No, I haven't read those posts! I only recently found your blog! I'm more of a lurker, even more so in this fandom because I only really ship Inuyasha/Kikyo and Kikyo is the bae. And well, Inuyasha fandom is like that when it comes to that. It's just something I'd been thinking over. I think it really does a disservice to his character. Because what's the point of his character development if in the end all he did was follow in his father's footsteps? It's just a retread. Nothing new.
You are completely right. I got back into Inuyasha in my early twenties and only then did Sesshoumaru become my favourite character. I was equipped to see and understand his more nuanced and slow development and I was flabbergasted by the amount of potential his character had by the end of the series. It resulted in a deep dive into character analysis, fanfictions and canon lore (yes, I said the c-word *le gasp*).
What Sunrise does is not even the opposite of fulfilling that potential. It‘s just a big old bag of nothing on top of bullshit just for the sake of money. We‘re early in the series, but seeing the first episodes being such a rushed clusterfuck when they SHOULD have been thoughtful set-up episodes instead? It left me with very little hope. Those that love Sesshoumaru are rightfully moving away from this abysmal fanfiction.
And from what I see, those that love Touga also need to start being wary, because Sunrise‘s grubby claws are moving towards him next.

Shippers are stalking blogs and making fun of everything on twitter. It’s so petty
I really don‘t notice that at all, mostly because I never tag my posts as either sessrin or anti sessrin. I tag them as two individual characters, AS THEY SHOULD BE. And honestly, stay away from the Twitter tags if it‘s too triggering - I know it is for me. Before Yashahime entered our collective universe like an unwanted drunk uncle tearing our cozy home to pieces, I hardly ever saw actual romantic SessRin fanart with child!Rin. Now it‘s everywhere and pretty much 98% of the fanart I see. All decency is gone as people are emboldened by Sunrise.
And hey, truthfully, many of us are surely feeling and acting pretty petty as well. It‘s the nature of things :). This will be over soon. Not soon enough, but soon nonetheless.

The tumblr app is such a shitshow. WHO PROGRAMMED THIS ABSOLUTE FUCKING GARBAGE???! My same post was eaten for the fourth time and committing a murder would be extremely satisfying rn. Oh yes, let‘s programm this crap in a way that an entire paragraph gets eaten without warning and let’s NOT include any way to get it back. I just wanted to talk about how Hisui and Setsuna should be allowed to be characters (and KIDS ffs) first before they‘re being shipped and how this is once again proof of how heteronormativity is all-pervasive, boring and damaging af.
IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK @staff ??? Nevermind, it‘s not like you ever reply to IMPROVE the experience anymore, huh.
I mean, at least Sunrise studio is off the hook for 10 minutes while I fume at this utter disgrace of programming.
