Disney+ Drops Walt Disney Animation Studios ‘Zootopia+’ Images

Zootopia gets its own spin-off series streaming later this week; six new stories return to the mammal metropolis for a deep dive into the film’s characters.

Disney+ has released a trailer for Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Zootopia+, a new series that heads back to the mammal metropolis named Zootopia and promises a deeper dive into the lives of the most intriguing residents, including Fru Fru, the fashion-forward arctic shrew; ZPD dispatcher Clawhauser, the sweet-toothed cheetah; and Flash, the smiling sloth all during the time of the original film.

All six episodes hit the streamer November 9.

Josie Trinidad (Zootopia, Ralph Breaks the Internet) and Trent Correy ( Frozen: Once Upon a Snowman, Drop) direct the series, and Nathan Curtis (Encanto, Raya and the Last Dragon) is the producer.

Episode 1 “Hopp on Board”

Judy boards the train from Bunny Burrow to Zootopia to begin her life as the big city’s first bunny cop, and Stu and Bonnie’s youngest daughter, Molly, board too. The down-to-earth duo is forced out of their comfort zone and into an action-packed rescue mission.

Episode 2 “The Real Rodents of Little Rodentia”

Newly engaged, Fru Fru kicks off wedding planning with enthusiasm and flourish—at least until her scene-stealing cousin Tru Tru arrives to assume the role of Shrew of Honor. A battle for the spotlight ensues until a close call with a giant donut reveals that, for better or worse, no one knows you better than family.

Episode 3 “Duke the Musical”

After being wrangled and arrested in a giant donut—compliments of Officer Judy Hopps—clever criminal weasel Duke reevaluates his life, pondering where he went wrong—in song. Then, in a musical aptly staged in his own mind, Duke contemplates how to go from a small-time crook to the Big Time!

Episode 4 “The Godfather of the Bride”

A touching tale about the powerful arctic shrew known as Mr. Big revisits Fru Fru’s big day when he delivers a revelatory father-of-the-bride speech. Then, returning to his days as Mr. Small, a new immigrant to Zootopia, he imparts the wisdom he gained about the importance of friends, family, and community.

Episode 5 “So You Think You Can Prance”

ZPD dispatcher Clawhauser persuades his boss, Chief Bogo, to audition for “So You Think You Can Prance.” The stakes are high as the ultimate prize is a dream-come-true opportunity to dance on stage with megastar pop sensation Gazelle.

Episode 6 “Dinner Rush”

As a super server, Sam urgently tries to finish her restaurant shift to make a once-in-a-lifetime Gazelle concert. But Flash and Priscilla show up at the last minute, hoping for a once-in-a-lifetime dinner.

How do you draw tears and eyes? Those two are some of the two biggest traits in your art style that are so appealing imo, and I'd love to see how you draw said traits!

Okay so, first thing regarding eyes and how to draw them is understanding that when you take some thing in reality to distort it into linework, you have to understand what you're stylization. You can't draw a cow if you've never seen one, yeah? You can't draw an eye without understand the anatomy and reality of what an eye is first.

This isn't to say you HAVE to understand every nuance and science of the eye to depict it lmao. It just means you have to at least be aware of how the muscles shape the face

I mentioned in a previous post where I linked an article discussing Scott Mcloud's book: Making Comics where in he discusses how faces convey emotion.

Scott made 3 books on the subject and if you ever want to make serialized art, please read them they're like a text book for comic artists. It's actually told through comics to teach comics! So it makes it a lot of fun to read. Brilliant work. It gave me so many fundamentals I wouldn't be half the artist i am if I hadn't read them.

So while, yeah, the way i do tears is reminiscent of studio ghibli

I actually didn't really grow up on Studio Ghibli that much. I watched Spirited Away at age 13, Howls Moving Castle and Kiki's delivery service like, aged 16/17 or so. So maybe that DOES count??? lol. I might of subconsciously took note of how the tears work in those films, it must have left a big impact on me.

But when I draw tears, despite keeping to the above style, mentally I'm thinking of old cartoons like the Flecher brothers or something, where tears are these HUGE, big symbols that take up so much room of the camera close up because IRL tears are subtle and that wouldn't fly with black white fuzzy drawings.

Which still became a tradition and useful tool for cartoons cartoons even in later decades. The additional "blue" of the water is to make the tears more visible, since the cell shading is very flat and often uses a more pure white. (blue picked cause oceans reflects the blue sky)

Personally I had a big kick on Bugs Bunny late in highschool, so thats very likely something that colored my stylization lmao. Um, after that i SUPER into Wander Over Yonder? Craig McCracken's shapely and flowy artwork left a MAJOR impact on me even if my art is more detailed and anime like.

As for the stylization of the eyes themselves, I'm pretty certain it comes from how Winry Rockbell's eyes were drawn. Mainly in early manga and 2003 anime (though I do like 09/bro more. 03 made some choices. but i'm not here to start a flame war)

Thats why i give the eyes a more vertical leaning to them, are so big, and have the upper darkness. I just think its neat! I've seen some artists online (though none in particular come to mind) that use the eye shine as pupil which I REALLY like, along with the secondary color to make them really pop. I'll switch to a more traditionally eye shine on certain characters or when necessary (like to emphasize looking in another direction).

I've just kinda simplified the process to pump out so much art for the comic, ideally I'd put more detail to the eyes (ala Anya's overly detailed eyes LMAO) but like, not realistic for a single person team and to keep things consistent. I've kind of learned the importance of keeping things simple lmao. plus, overly detailed work just ain't my thing -w-;

youve been asked what each cc character's favorite animal is but which animals do you think represent them most in any way? if the answers are the same then is there something you associate with them that's not something that immediately pops into ones mind with character associations (colors/animals/songs/etc) and moreso something more abstract like a specific complex feeling or brief scenery? for example what I associate with one of my ocs is an evening sunset during a long car ride home from a trip...something like that!

AKITO: a desolate super market by the highway in the middle of nowhere; an uninhabitable spot where you can only stop and then move on having done your shopping, a transitory usefulness. Small-town cafés and their suffocating atmosphere of everybody knowing everybody other than the vague shapes of tourists who come and go. A stranger, a visitor, an outsider with no defining traits other than their status as a passer-by. The economy hinges on tourists' coming and going, but they are unwanted as individuals, and chasing one or two away isn't harming anyone...

JUNPEI: dusty soccer courts at the playground, only a rusty frame of a goal with no net. When the ball hits the goal, it will pass through and force the goalman to chase after it no matter whether the opposing team scored or not. The suffocating and sacral stuffiness of ballet studios, no sounds other than the squeaking of rubber soles against that worn-our parquet and occasional harshness from the dance instructor... coming home hungry. Always hungering at home.

HIKARU: A maddening funerary orchestra giving it their all, sweating and panting to perform a satisfactory requiem. Instruments gradually going off-pitch, their strings snapping with strain. Within the hearse lies a living man dressed as a pierrot. Circus horses trained to run in circles round the tent, never arriving at any goal or end point. They are going nowhere, and have nowhere to return to, running until they fall from exhaustion with all their beautiful, ornate feather plumes and tassles

ARISU: death in cold water; a drowned Ophelia and a desolate-hearted Fisher King guarding a Holy Grail that nobody wants anymore. This is a Wasteland that cannot be populated anymore; plants can't grow and it's been a long time since anything has bitten the bait. Houses without a façade, bare-walled, and old-timey maidens with their hair undone. The Gordian knot cut rather than untangled, and thus everything is left behind and re-imagined...

ODILE: a skinny dog leashed to a post at the parking lot, snarling and spitting because it can only perceive being told "wait" as "wait forever." The humiliated angels of Sodom. A doubtful disciple insisting to push his fingers into Jesus' wound. Easter bunny chocolates forgotten until summer and eaten half-melty.

THE LEADER: golden teeth lying in bone dust after cremation and a waft of perfume residing in the air after a woman has passed by and gone. Nothing of value - certainly nothing that can be grasped - is here anymore.

Big Bang, Multiversity, and the futility of Multiversal Classification

It seems like every few years, there’s a new *thing* that finds itself at the forefront of pop culture. And in 2022, the word you couldn’t escape from was “multiverse.” Marvel Studios’ release of Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness led them to officially christening their next saga as “the Multiverse Saga”. The genre-bending indie film Everything Everywhere All At Once became a critical and commercial hit. Dungeons & Dragons released their new Monsters of the Multiverse bestiary. And Warner Bros. tried to get that sweet, sweet Super Smash Bros. money by making a video game where Bugs Bunny and Jon Snow can fight Steven Universe and the Gremlins.

And in the midst of all of this, DC Comics released yet another fucking event comic about a multiversal Crisis. 

To say that the recently-concluded Dark Crisis event (later rebranded to Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths in a move that makes my eyes roll into the back of my head) was underwhelming is generous. Aside from some pretty solid one-shots reimagining various members of the Justice League, the story has been both bloated in content and completely empty of substance. In many ways, it’s a microcosm of the many issues that have been plaguing DC Comics for several years now. And perhaps the best representation of that is this week’s tie-in release: Dark Crisis: Big Bang #1, written by Mark Waid and drawn by Dan Jurgens.

Waid and Jurgens are, of course, longtime creators for DC, with tenures at the company stretching back nearly 40 years, working on some of the defining stories for the biggest superheroes in the world. And while Waid did briefly leave the company due to disagreements with editor/publisher Dan DiDio, he was quick to return following DiDio’s ousting. And I think it’s notable to point out that the series that marked his full return - Batman/Superman: World’s Finest - is a retro-throwback that focuses on the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight in an earlier phase of their career, with Dick Grayson still serving as Robin with the Teen Titans and an overall aesthetic and tone homaging the Silver Age. Don’t get me wrong, the book is excellent, and probably my favorite thing DC is publishing right now. And the fact that it has Dan Mora and Tamra Bonvillain (aka, the best art team working in mainstream comics right now) doesn’t hurt either. 

It’s essential to keep this in mind when looking at Big Bang. The issue’s story (a word I use very loosely) concerns Barry Allen/The Flash and Wallace West/Kid Flash traveling through the multiverse looking for the Anti-Monitor. As they run (literally) through the multiverse, Barry narrates that he’s been cataloging the various Earths and reflects on their differences. This is accompanied by panels depicting events occurring on each Earth and helpful caption boxes establishing each Earth we see. And that’s the real reason this comic exists. This isn’t a story. It’s a checklist. 

Now don’t get me wrong, it’s a nifty checklist. But that’s all it is. Waid even admitted in an interview with Gamesradar that this was part of an overall edict at DC to be more organized with the multiverse, eschewing the more laissez-faire approach of recent years. 

In looking at this, I can’t help but compare it to the last time there was an alternate Earth checklist tie-in to a big multiversal story: The Multiversity Guidebook by Grant Morrison, with art by a murderer's row of collaborators. Like Big Bang, it uses a frame story as an excuse to chart the then-nascent 52 Earths of the DC Multiverse, which had been reintroduced thanks to 52, touched on briefly in Countdown and Final Crisis, and been shaken up once more in the wake of the New 52 reboot. However, rather than being a simple tour through different realities, it uses its descriptor of “Guidebook” to actually delve into the multiverse on a level that hadn’t been explored before, including a map outlining the 52 worlds, short descriptions of each world, some worlds left blank, and small glimpses into not just the worlds themselves, but the people and stories that populate them. It’s crucial to note the ways that Morrison et al are sure to leave lots of openings for other creators to fill in the sandbox and create new worlds, or expand the stories of characters Morrison only briefly outlines. But the most significant difference between Morrison’s approach vs Waid’s? 

One word: innovation. 

Knowing the multiverse was going to be limited to a finite number of Earths, Morrison was keen to not simply recreate worlds from DC’s past, but make sure that each Earth had a distinct vibe and potential for making new things. And even worlds that paid homage to those of the past (Earth 4, Earth 5, Earth 10) were given overhauls to better carve out their place as unique settings in this burgeoning cosmology. Morrison even left several worlds listed as “undiscovered” so that future creators could add their own takes to the multiverse. (In the middle of writing this, I received my copy of the Absolute Multiversity, which also includes even more notes that Grant had for the Guidebook and they absolutely deserve a more in-depth piece at some point. Suffice it to say, it makes the way certain later creators approached this material even more disappointing.)

Waid’s approach, meanwhile, doesn’t really create anything new. Those undiscovered worlds? Filled in with a bunch of Elseworld miniseries that DC released in the past few years. The Earths that go beyond the 52 are the similarly populated with recent additions to DC’s ever-growing catalogue of intellectual property. And if they’re not for recent releases, then they’re references to old Silver Age comics taking their designations from decade-old guidebooks. 

There are no attempts to innovate or elevate or do anything interesting at all, despite the fact that an infinite multiverse should be a gateway to endless possibilities. It’s just reduced to a bunch of numbers on a piece of paper so that nerds - represented on-page by the pre-eminent nerd of the DCU himself, Barry Allen - can check them off on a spreadsheet or a wiki page.

Os indicados ao MTV EMA 2022 foram revelados ontem (12 de outubro). Na lista aos indicados para “Melhor Artista Brasileiro” estão Anitta, Gloria Groove, L7NNON, Manu Gavassi e Xamã.

Além da sessão voltada aos brasileiros, Anitta aparece na categoria “Melhor Artista Latino”, ao lado de Bad Bunny, Becky G, J Balvin, Rosalía e Shakira.

A premiação vai acontecer em Düsseldorf, na Alemanha, na arena PSD Bank Dome, no dia 13 de novembro. O MTV EMA terá transmissão ao vivo para mais de 170 países, pelo canal oficial ou pelo Pluto TV.

I'm still salty how underrated Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts (2020) is and how a lot of people don't even know it exists. It has great characters, music (really, it's a bop!) and story as well as POC and LGBTQ+ representation. It's based on Radford Sechrist's comic, which story was adapted and continued in cartoon form.

The story takes place over 200 years after the apocalypse (which specifics are intentionally kept largely a mystery) that mutated animals and forced the surviving humans into hiding underground. The animals have mutated in a variety of ways, some sapient and some not, some with extra body parts and some kaiju-sized. Collectively they are known as Mutes and the humans fear them.

Kipo Oak, a cheerful 13-year-old science-loving teenager (voiced by Glimmer's VA Karen Fukuhara) ends up on the surface for the first time in her life after her hidden home underground gets attacked. She befriends a tough and independent 10-year-old orphan girl who could kill a bitch Kipo dubs "Wolf" for the pelt she wears, and a 16-year-old music-loving boy Benson who like Wolf survives on the dangerous surface but has a much more laid-back outlook and is even best friends with a seemingly immortal bug Mute named Dave (who thanks to some bizzare biology repeatedly keeps switching between baby, teen, adult, super adult, elderly and cocoon forms.) Kipo's goal is to find her way back to her dad and people, while avoiding Mutes who want to hunt down any humans they can find, as a mysterious villain really wants to collect remaining humans for some purposes. On the way, it's starting to seem like Kipo isn't entirely human herself...

Some of the many colorful Mutes include mobster frogs, lumberjack cats, dupstep bees, science-nerd wolves, rocker snakes, biker skunks and K-pop narwhals (yes, K-pop narwhals.) The massive non-sapient ones are known as Mega-Mutes, including for example, bunnies with 8 legs and 10 ears, and your usual playful dogs except that they just happen to have multiple eyes and feet and are 50 feet tall.

Rad Sechrist planned a sequel movie about 17-year-old Wolf, but unfortunately Netflix's been a massive dick to him from the start and pushing back. He's made a platform with some other creators known as Project City, described as "like several small creator owned studios banding together", and currently has an animated movie project named The Brave War.

Harry was in a dilemma.

Usually, he could sweep all his issues under the rug, save them for another day, but this one... he couldn't do that. Not because he didn't want to, but because this problem was more than just a dust bunny on his hardwood floor.

Y/N was the problem.

Or to be more precise, his feelings for Y/N were the problem.

Harry had confidence when it came to his crushes. He was smooth, flirty, and snagged almost every single person he's caught feelings for.

But not Y/N.

No, she was almost unreachable, for quite a few reasons.

One, the only reason he knew her, met her, was through a producer he had been working with the past few months. Arlo was massive in the industry and Harry was flattered when Arlo approached him with interest in collaborating. And only a month into working together, he met Y/N.

Harry's head snapped towards the door that had just burst open, a girl barging into the studio that he had never seen before. She was gorgeous, he had to admit, but he couldn't ignore her blatant disrespect for coming in and making a scene while he, Arlo, and a few of his bandmates were working annoyed him to no end.

"Dad! Oh my god, you will not believe what just happened, I was on my way over here and I fucking bumped into Zach," The girl began ranting, approaching Arlo and huffing as she stood next to Arlo's chair. "Of all fucking people I could see just walking down the street, it had to be him. The world is against me today I swear. Anyways, I brought that drum pad you wanted."

She dug into her big brown bag that was slung over her shoulder and pulled out the music board, placing it on the table in front of Arlo.

"Where'd you see him, Y/N? We're about to go on break and I can leave and go kick his ass in," Arlo checked his watch. "7 minutes."

Y/N, Harry now knew her as, sighed and crossed her arms. "He's long gone by now, think he shit his pants when he saw me walking near him."

"Atta girl, thanks for bringing my board too," Arlo smiled up at her from his chair. He then turned to see Harry, and Mitch staring at the two of them. "Oh sorry guys, this is my daughter, Y/N. Y/N, this is Harry and Mitch."

She turned to look at them and smiled wide. "Nice to meet you!"

"You too." They both said in unison, looking at each other with a smile, before focusing back on Y/N.

"We'll be done soon, if you wanna go out and get lunch." Arlo said, turning back to his daughter.

"Sounds good, just text me," Y/N replied, giving him a smile before turning back to the boys. "Nice meeting you guys, again."

And before they could even respond she was gone.

Two, Y/N was younger than him. 6 years younger to be exact. It didn't seem like much, but when put into perspective, she was 21, only just being legally allowed to drink in the States, and Harry was 27. Practically 30, if you ask him, and he was positive Arlo would have his head if he found out Harry liked his daughter. 

And three, she doesn't date the people her dad works with. 

He had found this out one night when he, Arlo, Y/N, Mitch, and a couple other writers were hanging out at the studio, drinking some wine (she had even exclaimed that this would be her first time drinking red, and Harry was yet again reminded of her age) and chatting after a long day of working. 

Harry and Mitch were laughing with Arlo about the first time they met Y/N, and her comments about this “Zach” guy. 

“He’s my ex, and had worked with my dad on one shitty song that never got far because he’s just so-- music is just not his thing, to put it nicely. But he was an absolute asshole and after him I made rule to never date anyone Dad works with. It would just go terribly.” She explained, letting Arlo take a few more jabs at the guy before stopping him.

So yeah, Harry was in a dilemma. 

In all the time he’d known Y/N, he just kept falling for her. She was kind, funny, beautiful, lit up any room she walked into, and treated Harry like fine porcelain. 

She was just fucking perfect.

Y/N had probably been in a lot of worse positions than the predicament she was in now.

For example, that time her dad walked in on her and her ex making out in the studio, or her 21st birthday when she got completely wasted and almost got into the wrong car instead of her uber, and the next day found out that the man driving that car was actually a convicted criminal.

So there’s worse things that could happen than her liking Harry.

But it doesn't mean it wasn’t bad.

The thing is, Y/N didn’t fall for anyone easily. Her one and only ex Zach treated her like a queen until he could officially claim her as his. The flowers he gave her before every date remained at the shop and the consistent compliments turned into insults and muttered claims of discontentment. 

Hence why he was her ex. It took Y/N quite a long time to work up the courage to end things with him. He was her first kiss, first time, and first boyfriend. She was yet to find her first love, she never really loved Zach. The way he used to treat her in the beginning, she thinks she loved, but him? No, she would never call him her first love. 

So when Y/N’s time crush on Harry began to develop into real feelings in such a short span of time, it terrified her. She had really never felt this way about someone before; butterflies would erupt in her stomach every time he shot her a smile and her mind would erupt into pure chaos when his body brushed up against her own. 

So yeah, it could be worse, but it certainly wasn't good.

Y/N enjoyed spending time at the studio with her dad, and surprisingly, spending time with her dad’s “co-workers”. Even though she didn't usually hang out with the pop stars and spent time mostly with the backing band/producers (they were usually 50 year old men, but they were pretty nice) she enjoyed herself fully, having lunch breaks and talking about where their children when to school and whatnot. 

Sometimes though, every blue moon, Y/N would hang out with a super star her dad was working with. Usually when most stars are at the studio all they did was record, which was understandable, but she never had the chance to meet a lot of them.

With Harry though, everything was different. It wasn’t just lunches at the studio, or dinner at someone’s house, no, tonight they were going out to a bar. 

It was completely unexpected too, they had just wrapped up a song, and Harry, being in a particularly good mood had yelled out about going to a bar to celebrate. Of course, Y/N ignored his shout, knowing she wasn’t invited, and after Arlo had said something about “not being able to party as much as I used to”, she gave her dad a hug good night and waved a little goodbye to the band. 

“Wait!” Harry had exclaimed, chasing after her in the hallway. “Where are y’going?”

Y/N’s eyes widened and she looked behind her before looking back at Harry. “I was just gonna head back home.”

Harry’s head tilted, and looked at her questionably. “Y’not comin’ to the bar with us?” He practically pouted.

Her brows shot up in surprise. “Oh! I- yeah I’ll go out with you guys.”

Which lead her here, decently tipsy, and sitting in a booth between Harry and Sarah, laughing at a story Adam had been telling. Every now and then she would glance over to Harry just to find his gaze already on her.

Her heart fluttered every time, and if Harry’s cheeks weren’t already flushed from the alcohol, Y/N would have noticed him blush every time they locked eyes as well. 

“M’gonna get another drink, does anyone want anything?” Y/N piped up, a resounding chorus of “no, thank you’s” answering her question. Except for Harry who spoke softly, “A beer? Go ahead and put it on my tab.”

She shook her head at him as he stood up to let her out of the maroon leather booth. “Can’t make you pay for that, I offered.” She said, standing to lock eyes with him yet again. 

“Nope,” He grinned. “You can, and you will.”

“But-”

“No buts.” He chuckled, giving her a dimpled smile.

Accepting her defeat she nodded and squeezed his arm with a murmured “Thank you.” before making her way to the bar.

Harry sat back down again, eyes trailing her figure as she walked away before looking back at the table to be met with knowing eyes. 

“What is it?” He asked, glancing around at everyone.

“You’re whipped, mate.” Charlotte grinned, everyone else nodding in agreement.

“What?! I am not.” Harry pouted, eyes flicking over to Y/N, who was making her way to the table, one drink in each hand, before back to everyone else. 

“She’s really sweet H, you should go for it.” Mitch said.

Harry shook his head, eyes now on Mitch. “I’m not interested in her like that, she’s way too young for me, anyways.”

Just then did he hear the soft hit of his beer and her cosmo land on the table. His gaze trailed up her hands to see Y/N’s shattered face. “Here.” She practically whispered to him.

“I just remembered I have an early class tomorrow, so I should go, but thank you guys for inviting me out.” Y/N explained in lighting speed as she leaned over Harry to grab her purse and toss is over her shoulder. 

Words of confusion were tossed around the table but she was already booking it out of there, leaving Harry just as devastated as she was.

“I think she heard you, H.” Sarah said, frowning. 

Harry let out a muttered “Fuck!” before taking out large bills from his wallet and tossing it on the table. “For my tab, m’sorry, I gotta go.” And he left just as fast as Y/N did, weaving through the tables and people before bursting out the door to see her standing on the street, arm wrapped around her waist and another holding her phone.

“Y/N!”

Her head whipped around to see Harry bustling towards her and she quickly wiped her eye as he approached.

“Wait, don't go,” He said, struggling to find the words. “We all want you to stay, I want you to stay.”

“I have to get to class Harry, plus, I’m too young to be staying out this late anyways.” She grimaced at her own words. 

He sighed, eyes flickering from her own to her lips then back again. “I-fuck, you know I didn’t mean it like that.”

This time, she fully turned to face him, brows knitted in distress. “Then how did you mean it? Because honestly I don’t think there is another way to mean it.”

This was his only chance, Harry knew it. 

“I just, I tried for so long to tell myself it was wrong to feel this way about you because you’re so much younger than me, and m’pretty sure your father would have my head if he knew but m’fucking infatuated with you, Y/N. M’so sorry I said that earlier, age is my only excuse for not asking you out and it’s not a good enough excuse anymore.”

With this her mouth was gaped like a fish, and her face was akin to a deer caught in headlights. In a flash her arms were wrapped around his neck and he was holding her waist, reveling in her touch. 

“Oh, Harry,” She pulled away. “I really like you too.” And with that she pressed a swift kiss to his cheek, leaving him a blushing mess. 

“Good, thats... thats good.” He stammered.

“So,” she nudged his arm. “Y’gonna ask me out now?”

In her debut single, “i wanna be your girlfriend,” a teenage girl in red unapologetically sings of young queer love over a mesh of lofi production and jangly instrumentation that would come to define much of the bedroom pop genre. It is a standout moment of unrelenting honesty, and a serenely simple three-minute confession that would go on to strike a chord with millions who were afraid of what it meant to be something more than friends. Now, a few years later and following the release of her critically-acclaimed debut album, if i could make it go quiet, Ulven still writes with that same emotional honesty, putting forth every ounce of herself for the world to see. 

Meet Me @ The Altar

“the little lonely black alt girl i was in the 00s is living rn, she never even dared to hope she might see this 💖💖,” reads the top comment on Meet Me @ The Altar’s music video for their single “Garden.” It is a sentiment shared by much of the rising band’s fanbase, who are used to the mainstream alternative scene championing cis white males. Existing in the space between pop-punk and hardcore, Meet Me @ The Altar exists to challenge the notion that queer women of color don’t have a place in punk. And after penning a record deal with Fueled By Ramen, home to the likes of Paramore, Panic! at the Disco, and nearly every pop-punk band that made up your middle school playlist, chances are this is just the beginning for our new favorite punks.

THE BLOSSOM

For Lily Lizotte, better known as THE BLOSSOM, music exists as the synthesis and subsequent recontextualization of a host of past experiences. From the sound of their dad belting away in his home studio to stumbling upon niche Internet subgenres, THE BLOSSOM transforms all this and more into a sound that is instantly recognizable but impossible to perfectly place. The culmination of this host of influences takes sweeping sonic form on their debut EP, ‘97 BLOSSOM, a perfectly imperfect introduction to one of the most fascinating rising artists of recent memory.

BIMINI

You may recognize BIMINI as Bimini Bon-Boulash, the runner-up on the second season of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK. And now you should familiarize yourself with Bimini, brit-pop extraordinaire. Releasing their debut single “God Save This Queen” earlier this June, Bimini deftly channels late ‘90s brit-pop and punk to deliver a single that has us absolutely living for the ensuing chaos. Serving up multiple looks throughout its eye-catching music video, “God Save This Queen” is not just a non-binary anthem but a veritable 2021 lookbook.

Hope Tala

With a sound that falls somewhere between turn-of-the-century R&B and bossa nova, Hope Tala’s music is expectedly a dream given sonic form. Perhaps that’s why much of the UK singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist’s music is able to so deftly weave imagery of love, heartache, and teenage fistfights into tightknit tracks that feel simultaneously transcendental and deeply personal. And with the release of her 2020 EP, Girl Eats the Sun, Hope Tala poses one all-important question, “Why have a life if you’re not going to do something crazy and make a difference in the world?”

For much of chloe moriondo’s avid fanbase, watching her transform from budding ukulele sensation to pop-punk phenom very much meant watching her grow up. Getting her start on YouTube, moriondo's fanbase witnessed her evolve as both an artist and person. Coming out in the aptly titled “a ramble about self identity, growth, and being a lesbian,” to be a fan of the artist often feels like trading secrets with a close personal friend. It is a sentiment that rings all the more true upon delving into her debut album, Blood Bunny. Grappling with coming-of-age at the axis of empathic pop and euphoric pop-punk, Blood Bunny sees moriondo taking yet another impressive step forward.

Godford

Little is known about Godford beyond what can be garnered from a handful of interviews online and his succinct Spotify bio, and chances are he’s happier that way. The anonymous DJ and producer aims to make non-binary music that exists outside of the confines of genres, overly-simplified classifications, and even himself. What is important are the emotions his music hold and what his listeners take away. Fusing romanticism and rave in his debut album, Godford: Non Binary Place, the anonymous artist does just that. He provides a space that exists simultaneously everywhere and nowhere, like an ephemeral night spent out on the dancefloor with a stranger or close friend.

Joy Oladokun

Joy Oladokun is at the core of her music. It may at first glance appear to be a painfully obvious statement, but as her sincere songwriting seeps into every corner of your soul, it is a notion that becomes undeniable. In her major label debut, in defense of my own happiness, Oladokun writes with an unabashed authenticity, never turning a blind eye to the world around her. These shared reflections and recollections of life are often heartbreaking and uplifting in the same breath, but in their candidness, we can begin to piece together what it means to be human, imperfections and all.  

Allison Ponthier

Allison Ponthier may only have a handful of singles to her name, but her unmatched potential is clear as day. Raised in the outskirts of Dallas, Texas, Ponthier’s moving songwriting and emphatic vocal prowess speak to her country roots. Pair that country sensibility with some of the most pristine pop songwriting we have heard in quite some time, and you begin to understand just how exciting Ponthier is as a rising artist. With only two singles to date, there’s not much else we can say beyond do yourself a favor and play “Cowboy” on repeat.

Rina Sawayama

It feels like no hyperbole to call Rina Sawayama an inevitable pop icon. First garnering critical acclaim with singles like “Cherry” and her 2017 debut EP RINA, the Japanese-British singer-songwriter staked her name on her immaculate ability to capture all the glamour and larger-than-life appeal of early ‘00s pop. Building on what was a nostalgic yet forward-thinking vision, Sawayama returned with her 2020 eponymous full-length debut. From nu-metal, club beats, to veritable pop anthems, SAWAYAMA emerged as a genre-defying showcase of an avant-garde pop star.

Arlo Parks

Listening to Arlo Parks’ music is akin to sipping on a hot cup of chamomile tea as you watch the world slowly pass by your living room window. It is a testament to the British poet and singer-songwriter’s subtle yet beautiful way with words, the way in which each lyric serves as a glance into a tightly-held memory or passing observation. These poetic musings come to life in her debut album, Collapsed In Sunbeams, which layers lyrical revelations over some of the most tender R&B of recent memory. Parks’ is more than a must-listen; she feels like the birth of a new wave.

Claud

Claud has spent the past few years making a name for themselves in the indie pop world, and the culmination of it all arrives in their debut album, Super Monster. The acclaimed album sees Claud reckoning with coming-of-age and love with an irresistible charm. Pair that with a penchant for grounded, affective songwriting and infectious, dreamlike melodies and you have one of the best debuts of recent memory. In case you somehow need any further convincing that Claud is one to watch, Super Monster marks the debut release from Phoebe Bridgers’ Saddest Factory Records.

UMI

Equally as inspired by R&B and neo-soul as she is by her generation’s penchant for blurring genre lines, UMI and her music exist as a form of spiritual healing. Half-Black and half-Japanese, her work explores everything from identity to self-introspection, such as on the aptly-titled Introspection. It is a fondness for self-exploration that UMI delves headfirst into on her 2019 EP Love Language, a sublime blend of identity struggles, love, and anime that tackles the issue of always feeling like an other, never Black or Japanese enough.

Joesef

Sad boy summer. It’s the simplest way to being explaining Joesef’s serene albeit somber sound. Emerging out of Glasgow, the quickly rising star often wears his still bleeding heart on his sleeve, even when the underlying sonics seem to be moving onto greener pastures. At the top of the year, we named Serena Isioma one of our top artists to watch in the year to come, and for good reason. A hallmark of the DIY generation and its massive homebrewed potential, it would be a crying shame if you didn’t let Khai Dream’s serene meditations transport you somewhere far from here.

Frances Forever

Like much of their Gen Z cohorts, Frances Forever’s exponential rise was not the result of a well-executed marketing plan but by the pure chance of a single song finding a home online. The song in question, “Space Girl,” was originally part of NPR’s Tiny Desk Content before soon blowing up on TikTok, and it’s not hard to see why. Short, sweet, and to the point, “Space Girl” is a saccharine love letter to that bubbly feeling of floating on cloud nine. Now signed to Mom+Pop and with their debut EP, Paranoia Party, due out later this year, this is the perfect time to get familiar with Frances Forever.

Unapologetically playing with gender norms and stereotypes while seeing just how far they can push the limits of pop, Dorian Electra has long maintained a cult following in the world of experimental, highly addictive hyperpop. And it’s not hard to see why. Having collaborated with the likes of Charli XCX, 100 gecs, Village People, Pussy Riot, Rebecca Black, and more, Electra’s music ranges from off-the-rails hyperpop to introspective pop slow burns. Maya Cumming, professionally known as MAY-A, is no stranger to the hustle it takes to make it in the music industry. The Australian artist got her start entering numerous singing competitions in her hometown of Byron Bay and started busking on the streets at the tender age of 11. Now, she has a breakout single under her belt in the form of “Apricots,” an anthemic indie-pop ode to queer love. Sukuna couldn't stand it, the girl his brother brought over to his shop plagued his mind. Wide eyed and just as happy as Yuuji it was infuriating how energetic the pair was in the tattoo shop. He was used to the sound of his brother asking for him but once he hear a second voice his hand twitches , eyes moving from the drawing in front of him as his appointment in front of him practically was begging fro his attention, occasionally trying spark up a conversation as he drew out a rose, planned for her collarbone “So, did all of you tattoos hurt?” The girl asked, pushing herself closer as he continued to stech, not paying her much mind. “No, I guess i've always had tough skin though.” He said as the girl hummed and giggled continuing her talking “I've been afraid of needles for as long as I could’ve remembered, but maybe this'll get me over my fear huh?” she questioned as all he did was hum, finishing the small design. “Maybe. Is this okay?” He asked her as she gasped, her giggling increasing to his dismay

“Omg i love it! You're a good worker with your hands” She said as he started to get ready, popping off his rings as he put on gloves, running up red and black inks for the rose to be. “Your right shoulder, right?” Sukuna asked as she confirmed, moving her shirt a bit too low to try to entice him. Pushing more of it back up, Sukuna placed and got the stencil ready, finally looking up to the girl “Tell me if there's anything wrong okay ?” He said as she gave him an almost hungry look “oh please i sure will” And with that he started the tattoo, the girl he was tattooing letting out small cries and gaps. Every one of the sounds made him stop, checking on her as the girl tried to act differently but he knew she was in pain. Once the girl stopped in a crying spell and was able to calm down from the help of the giant tattooist “s-sorry i didn't know my collar bone was so sensitive” she said as he said she was okay, starting to go back to her tattoo once everything was better with the girl. Once finished , she started to pay when she started to hit on him again “ I'm still sorry for that whole thing , how about I get you a drink for the troubles huh?” She threw at him as he gave her a small smile “I have more clients later, and i'd rather not drink, don't really like to unless its special'' Sukuna responded as the girl admired her new rose that covered a small portion of her chest and collarbone “ How about we go celebrate my new tattoo? And the fact you helped me through it huh?” She suggested. Before he could respond he heard the high pitched sounds of laughter. Looking up to his door he saw his annoying brother but with one of the most beautiful girls he ever saw. Once finishing the payment with his client and her sliding her number on a piece of paper his brother came up with his friend “Hey Su! I want you to meet my bestfriend [ ]!” his hyper twin brother Yuuji said as Sukuna looked at the girl in front of them. She looked to be their age , shorter than him with a few tattoos and dyed hair herself. “Nice to meet you young lady”

Sukuna said as he took her hand, giving it a kiss. [ ] giggled as Yuuji fake choked, his brother rolling his eyes at him “ What? Not my fault you've never brought her around me, she's a lady, gotta give her a proper introduction right?” Sukuna teased as Yuuji grumbled causing [ ] to laugh “Well nice to properly meet you Sukuna , ive heard so much about the woman lure bad boy whos the polar opposite of his sweet and innocent twin” She teased as he gave her his own smirk “ Yet i know nothing of the cute little girl standing in front of me” Sukuna lashed back as [ ] felt her face heat up, a laugh coming from her. His brother pouted he stood in front of his brother , giving him a knowing look. “I brought her here for a tattoo, idiot” He said as Sukuna gave him a raised eyebrow, looking at the girl beside him “Is that right doll? Came here for a tattoo?” He asked as she gave him a shy smile back “Well erm, i kinda wanted to start a sleeve with you if that's alright?” with widened eyes Sukuna and Yuuji were surprised together, the strawberry blondes both looking as the girl gave them a confused look back “What? Is that bad?” She asked as sukuna kicked in “Nah, i'm surprised that you'd choose me ,i'm not the usual girly tattoo sleeve maker” He said as she gave him a smile, “And i'm not your usual girly girl who just wants flowers and shit as my tattoo” She retorted back as he gave her an impressed smirk, ushering her to the back of his studio room “You can come too twerp” he said to his brother as yuuji ran to join them, headed to the back room.

This became a recurring theme as over the next few days and even weeks , Sukuna and [ ] met to talk about her new additions, adding and removing elements as they started to get a good picture of what they both thought looked the best together, some ideas being saved for other single tattoos. “So how do you like it so far sweetheart?” Sukuna asked as [ ] gave him an enthusiastic squeal, moving over the turned drawing desk as she fell forward to hug the tattooed covered man. Shocked by her random falling grasp he chuckled, catching her so she wouldn't hit her hip on the swerving table and half giving her a hug back as they laughed together. [ ] pulled back some as she started to notice more differences between the twins. Starting with Sukunas face ; it was more clear and sunkissed, small freckles adorned his cheeks from the sunshine. Unlike his twin, she noticed how more stocky and strong his body and face was compared to Yuuji. The twins were pretty much identical , except for how they acted, the fact that Sukuna had tattoos and the sometimes usual differences between twins, like style and other small discrepancies. Unlike the bright and colorful yet athletic look Yuuji had , Sukuna tended to be more of a dark artsy look, usually black clothes , ripped jeans , rings and chains. He tended to give off the usual bad boy vibes, someone who you wouldn't want your parents to meet.

But under his hard exterior he was very personable , just as sweet as his twin. As she was lost in her own thoughts , her hands pushing off his chest he snapped her back to reality, a finger going under her chin as he gave her a gentle smile , catching the girl in midthought of her tattooist “Aren't you something….what's on your mind [ ]” He rasped out as her eyes widened, realizing how close they were. From the standing mirror she could really see it ; one of her thighs was in between his spreaded ones, the other in his right arm. From her arms wrapped around his neck her face was close to his, the two of them slightly chest to chest. Her body felt hot as the male in front of her smirked, meeting her eyes in the mirror as he looked at the scene in front of him too. Eyeing her in the mirror he could imagine the work to be put atop her skin, and how pretty she'd be in his work, the thought gave him a sense of protectiveness and overall close bond with the girl he was around for more than he'd had before. Spending hours a day , almost everyday except his super packed days had gotten him a closer bond with her and even with his twin brother, the group of them and their other friends relaxing and enjoying time together. The little things that they all did together made him realize how much he enjoyed taking a break. And how much he'd fallen for his new client.

Coming from his own thoughts he pulled her right leg higher onto his lap, causing her to fall forward as she gasped, their faces impossibly closer. “Hm...youre pretty when youre flustered..” he said absentmindedly as he looked back to them in the mirror ,wrapping an arm around her waist as he gave her a sly smile, moving back into the chair he sat in “S-sukuna?” [ ] questioned as he hummed, sliding his eyes from the mirror to her questioning ones. Tracing the hand on his chest he rose a brow, a silent sign to continue. “I-I can get down. I'm sorry i was a little excited-” She continued as she started to move. With quick ease Sukuna kept her in place, rubbing the back of her thigh as he leaned in, pulling her closer by the backs of her thighs “I like you here. You don't have to move unless you're uncomfortable” He said as she ran a hand through his messy hair, sliding it to his cheek as he laid his head in it, kissing her palm. With the small caring action she squeaked , making the male chuckle “Am i...moving too fast” He said , his voice barely a whisper as he tightened his grasp on her waist, eyes searching hers.

“N-no i'm just...surprised?” She half questioned as he gave a knowing smile, shifting her weight to completely have her in his lap. With a high pitched squeal and giggles [ ] landed comfortably , her calves hanging off as her thighs tightened around his waist. “See, isn't this more comfortable?” He asked as she shyly hid in his neck, overwhelmed by his random acts of affection “Sukuna...are you trying to just make me embarrassed” She whined as he stroked her back, putting her face deeper in his neck “Mh..no not particularly..kinda just...thinking” He said as he pulled his phone out. Facing the mirror he took a silent picture, a smirk on his lips as he looked it over. her body was perfectly flushed with his , her arms around his neck as the tattoo down her side was more prominent in the picture. From the way it looked was just a couple taking a handsy photo but for Sukuna, it was a seal for how he felt. He wanted to take more pictures like this, but with them being together. Mirror selfies, clothes or even more explicit for his own gallery ; he loved the way they looked together. Noticing how quiet he was [ ] sat up looking at the male as he set his phone up facing the mirror before squishing her face “Everything okay?” She asked with a squished face as he laughed , releasing her cheeks “I love this..” He admitted as she gave him a wide eyed look , his warm ones looking away from hers

“I know..all of this could be seen as a very lewd way to admit my feelings but..honestly i'm used to just having women want me for free tattoos and well..yknow..my talents'' Sukuna said as he gave her a crooked smile, a laugh coming from [ ] as she understood what he meant, but the fact that he's admitting feelings for her made her heart flutter “S-so you like me?” She asked warily as he let out a light sigh, leaning up to put their faces close again “Hey [ ]...i know this is awkward and embarrassing...for me at least...but..may i kiss you?” He whispered over her lips as she silently shook her head, letting her eyes feel heavy as he got closer, rubbing their lips faintly together. As soon as she tighten her arms around his neck he pushed his record on his phone, sealing their lips together. As the two started to make out he tightened his hands around her waist, a low hum coming from his throat as he bit her bottom lip, sliding his tongue in. the more heated it got the more she whimpered, pulling her kiss plumped lips away from his. Groaning he chased her lips, crashing them against his as they started to kiss again. Letting her nimble fingers move up from his neck she tugged at his hair at the back of his nape, making the male growl as he rocked her closer to him, his larger arms wrapping over her waist.

Once again she whined and pulled away, putting her head against his “Sukuna...I..geez you-” trying to catch her breath he gave an airsh laugh. Ending his video. Catching him touch his phone [ ] reached for it “What did you do?” She asked as he held the phone above his head, watching them kiss again as he grinned “Oh nothing..just wanted my confession is all” He said as she gave him a look “[ ]..i really do like you...god i could say i'm almost in love…” “Almost?” She whispered as he kissed her lips again “More like i am but..i dunno how you feel about me” He said as she gave him a soft look, kissing his cheek “I love the time we've spent together, and well, if you'll have me i'll be yours” She responded. A wide smile on his face as he leaned back in to kiss her, the new couple giggling through the sessions as they finalized the rest, starting on the masterpiece they had crafted together.

Starting on her sleeve was one of the most enjoyable things she had done. Every few weeks to a month depending on the healing time she was adding her next piece. As she finished all of her linework it came to coloring her colorful bits. For the next few months again she finished it, all while spending time with her tattooist boyfriend and friends. As she was to the final stretch of heer coloring she knew valentines day was coming up more and more. Her and Sukuna had been dating for around a year now, just a few weeks shy of it. As she came to the shop she waved to the receptionist, giving him a smile “Hey Megs, how are you?” Megumi, the inky haired boy looked up from his journal and gave [ ] a rare smile, “Hey [ ]! I'm good ,how are you today? Sukunas is in the back if youre ready for him” He said as she gave him smile “That's good! I'm so excited my tattoo should be done just in time for valentines day! Speaking of, do you have an idea of your valentine this year?” She teased as he gave her a shy look “Ah...not particularly but maybe once it came i would” He said as she gave him a nod in understanding. Hearing his girlfriend talking Sukuna came out, a grin on his lips “Hey babe” He said as he gave her a kiss to her neck, causing Megumi to groan as she giggled “Cmon dont make him uncomfortable with your affection, lets go big boy” She joked as she took her strawberry blonde to his room “Ah okay babe let me see your arm” Sukuna started as she took of his jacket, revealing her sleeveless crop top and work of art on her left arm. Turning her arm some he looked over her lines and color deposits , making sure everything looked right. “Its coming along nicely [ ]..i just have this little pieces on your forearm and we'd be done with piece” He said happily as she gave him a soft smile “I love it...just as much as i love you” She said as he looked up from her arm , giving her a shy smile “I love you more [ ]”

Sukuna said as he leaned up, kissing her lips as he set up his inks and machine, snapping his gloves as he started to finish her last pieces. As the buzzing of the machine lulled her comfortingly she caught the determined and concentrated look on his face as he tattooed away “Where do you wanna go on valentine's day...hypothetically speaking” Sukuna asked randomly as she started to fill in lines. Blinking comically, she looked down at her boyfriend. “Anything youd come up with” She said as he hummed, finishing up the last color as he wiped it clean, starting to clean up the ink and smaller tears in her skin hidden by the fresh ink. “Princess...thank you for letting me be the one that did your art…” He said as he traced her hand , kissing her fingertips as he flashed her a smile. “I love you more Su..” [ ] whispered back as she leaned forward, kissing his forehead.

As the two sat there in his studio and talked [ ] drew up a heart with their names in it , giggling as she showed her boyfriend “Look babe!” She said as he stopped cleaning his desk, analyzing her work “I like it, a lot. You did a great job sizing wise, and i always loved your cursive” he said as he ran a finger over the art again “You said you wanted to get better at tattooing, right?” Sukuna asked as he still looked over the design “Yeah i did, what about it?” [ ] asked as he stretched , reaching over as he pulled out his darkest black ink and vibrant red. Soon he picked up two pairs of gloves and one of his various machines “Ill let you do this on me, and i can do it on you if youd like” He said as she gave him a happy screech, starting to make the transfers “Really Sukuna, youd let me do that?” She asked as he nodded, prepping an empty space on his arm “Ill help you, make sure its deep enough but i trust you, you did a good job with the smaller ones on yourself. Youre good sweetheart im here “ And thats what he says the whole time she tattoos him, her lines were straight but she felt like her red names were lacking. Tracing them again the darken, showing up beautifully as she focused, holding his skin apart as she smiled at her work, wiping the access ink and covering it in ointment like he did earlier “I did it!” She jumped happily as he gave a satisfied grin, looking at her energetic girlfriend. ‘I love her’ he thought to himself as he thought of what hed do for her in the coming weeks for the day filled of love

On valentines day [ ] was at home, talking to Nobara as she heard a knock on her door. Telling the girl she'd call back, [ ] started at the door and opened it, seeing a giant bouquet of flowers as she took them nicely from the delivery boy “Uhhh miss [ ] correct? The sender also wanted you to have this” The boy fumbled with a note, handing it to the girl as she thanked him , watching him leave as she let out a happy squeal, reading it.

‘Dollface, I hope you're ready for tonight, I have a lot in store for us tonight. How about you wear that cute little black dress you got last time we went to the mall hm? I'll be over at four-SKR”

Giggling at his note she looked at the time, noting it was 2:00, she went to the back, starting to get dressed as she was excited to see what her boyfriend had planned for them. She took the time to curl her hair, setting them as she worked on her makeup. After taking the time she saw it was around 3:45. She smiled as she got a text from him, saying he was on his way. As she happily ran around her apartment , trying to get rid of the jitters she had for the night planned with her boyfriend. Soon she heard a knock on the door. Skipping to the dor she opened it to her tall boyfriend leaning against the frame, looking down at his girlfriend “Hi darling” Sukuna said as she stood on her toes , giving him a peck against his lips as she giggled “Hi” She responded as he wrapped his arms around her waist , kissing the crook of her neck. “Missed you..” He whispered as she hummed, rocking with him as they stumbled into her living room, Sukuna shutting her door behind him as he picked her up. Laughing , [ ] held onto him, looking down to her well dressed partner. He was in a black vest, adorned with red decals and black pants. Despite him wearing nicer clothes it had the same grudge feel to it, ringed fingers and pierced ears filled with glistening metals very promedent in his attire. As she gave him a glance over from being held in his arms he rose a brow and placed her down, giving her an uncharacteristic shy look “Do i look alright?....tried something new since ill be taking you out” He asked as she kissed his cheek, giving him a content smile “I love it. You still have that edge I fell in love with laced through and through” [ ] said as Sukuna felt his heart jump, a warmth creeping up his neck and face as he kissed her face, taking her hand “Well then...i'm very thankful with a woman like you in my life...thank you [ ]..you ready to go?” Sukuna softly asked as he outstretched a hand to her, making [ ] playfully laugh. Taking her ringed at tattooed lovers hand the duo set off, starting their first Valentines Day together.

Once night rolled around most had been finished [ ] and Sukuna found themselves on a hilltop, overlooking a city as they ate a snack basket that Sukuna prepared. Not only was he a tattooist but he could cook, and cook very well. “If I didn't have the urge to tattoo every square inch of my body with art maybe i'd be a cook” He laughed as she constantly complimented his cooking, laying her head on his shoulders. “This is wonderful Sukuna..ive really enjoyed today” [ ] said as he gave her a look before peering back at the city “I know how much you hated today so...I wanted to do something for you to love it” Sukuna said as she moved up, looking in his warm eyes as he reached out of his pocket, his phone showing their first accidental mirror picture they took together evident as his lockscreen. As he pulled the next thing to it, a shiny ring filed with her birthstone “This is for you, a promise to you” Tilting her head she took the beautiful ring and placed it on her finger, watching it glisten in the moonlight “A promise for what?” she asked “Ill never leave you, and one day...maybe...we could make that promise permanent” He said as he took her hand in his , pulling her in his lap as he sealed that promise with a kiss.

okay wait this is about to be a way longer answer than anyone cares about agdgafak but for my major i had to take shop classes and my last year i built an entryway table! the wood i used came from my great-great-grandpa’s cabin. my grandpa kept a lot of the wood when it was torn down, so i got to use some to build this

i’m super proud of the way it turned out and using that wood was a cool way i got to tie in a bit of family history to the piece 😄

1. i was a dancer for 14 years! did ballet, tap, and jazz. i miss ballet a lot and would love to find a studio again where i could just do it for fun!

2. i used to live in orlando and had an annual pass to disney. my friends and i loved being able to pop over to the parks whenever!

3. i love to cook! (but would love it more if i had someone to do all the clean up)

4. i got randomly upgraded to pit tickets for taylor swift’s speak now tour, absolutely incredible

Space Jam: A New Legacy is a very good movie. Not a masterpiece, obviously, but then neither was the original.

A lot of people seem to forget how absurd the premise of Space Jam was (or if they do, they think that’s the reason it sucks). Think about it: the plot is that Michael Jordan is enlisted by a bunch of cartoon animals to play basketball against a bunch of super-powered space aliens so that they don’t wind up enslaved by said aliens working at a crummy amusement park. It’s super silly, but that doesn’t take away from the fact the movie is great despite that.

The sequel is very similar in that regard. I get the feeling a lot of people aren’t going to catch on to how self-aware the script is about how ridiculous the whole “let’s have a massive crossover with a bunch of Warner Media intellectual properties” bit. They make it clear from the get-go that it was the villainous algorithm’s idea, and LeBron doesn’t like it. It’s a great example of self-deprecation humor, and I’m glad the writers managed to work it in. I get the feeling the whole thing was cooked up by some studio execs in reality...

Now, my biggest concern of course, is Lola Bunny. I’ve made it pretty clear before how much I love the original Lola, and I was very worried they would screw it up again. There was this whole thing with the director wanting to “reinvent” her that I won’t go into again, but long story short, I needn’t have worried.

Lola Bunny is Lola Bunny again. There’s no way you could ever convince me she didn’t already have the potential to be a butt-kicking action heroine from the beginning. The idea that she was somehow anything less than that before now (besides one obvious exception) is completely crazy to me. I’d like to see her engage in more Looney Tunes-style slapstick in the future, but for now it’s great to see her return to form.

The one thing I didn’t like was how they replaced Lola’s voice actor. The new voice (some trendy pop star I’m assuming) wasn’t really that good, and I’m 100% certain Kath Soucie could have done it better. I’m sure they just recast her for name recognition and nothing else- and considering I’m not even sure who she is, that’s not really going to help much. It reminds me of how they recast Judy in the Jetsons movie, and we all know how well that went.

I do have several nitpicks about the movie (like, why were the Nerdlucks cheap reused animation??), but all in all I’m extremely relieved to see the Looney Tunes be themselves. (Not to mention the 2D animation is fantastic.) There’s been so many times in the past ten years where cartoon characters have been retooled and rebooted, and often not for the better, and it’s films like this that give me hope that that sort of thing will end soon. Here’s hoping this thing will be as successful as it deserves to be.
