MLB City Connect uniforms thus far, a personal ranking/analysis. There wasn’t a good way to get a third axis in, or I would’ve done graphic design/visual appeal separately — the Royals’ uni isn’t particularly novel but it looks very nice, for example.
My worst to best ranking:
14. Dodgers. All they did was make the pants blue, add “Los” on the front, and a barely noticeable spray paint texture. A single Spanish article and one (1) inch of color is not a proper tribute to your city, guys.
13. Giants. The Golden Gate Bridge design is good, but why is the whole thing so minimalist? Also the fog effect looks really bad on the white uniform. Once again, there’s just not enough going on to really tie this to the city.
12. Diamondbacks. I feel bad for ranking them this low, but the graphic design isn’t great. Font is thin and hard to read, and the color, while unique, doesn’t really pop. “Serpientes” is great though, and the Arizona flag is a nice touch.
11. Cubs. The Chicago flag tie-ins are cool and it’s a nice clean look with a good balance of colors. Unfortunately “Wrigleyville” is pretty boring, I’m surprised they didn’t go with “Northside” given what the White Sox did.
10. Brewers. The colors really pop, especially the use of yellow for the font and edging. It doesn’t feel much like a City Connect, though, beyond the “Brew Crew” name; more like a throwback uni. Also that hat logo, uh, sure exists.
9. Royals. A very one-note theme is elevated by a super sharp and cohesive visual design. The stylized font looks really good, and the color layout is strong. The lack of city tie-ins beyond the fountains theme holds this one back though.
8. Red Sox. They really went all out on this one, at the expense of any kind of team identity. The Boston Marathon/Patriots’ Day theme is unique and they did a good job incorporating it, but I wish it wasn’t the only theme they used.
7. White Sox. A minimalist approach actually works here, since the monochrome and gothic style is such a distinctive Chicago look. I think the pinstripes would look better thicker and more spaced out, but can’t complain.
6. Padres. This one's divisive, but I like the supersaturated multicolor look, it’s unique and captures the vibes of the city they were going for. It can be a bit jarring visually, but the design reminds me of some WBC uniforms.
5. Angels. Now this is how to do an LA City Connect. It could use more variation from the Angels color palette, but it’s a very cohesive design, with lots of details like the fishtail underline and number patches that tie everything together.
4. Marlins. This is an extremely sharp uni, and the tribute to the Sugar Kings is awesome. Red with pinstripes and the bright blue accents is a bold, aesthetically pleasing combo. Probably the best-looking City Connect on the field.
3. Astros. The best attention to detail of any uni, even if the navy blue overwhelms on the field. “Space City” in the NASA worm font is great, and the repeated use of the Tequila Sunrise gradient works perfectly with the rocketry theme.
2. Nationals. A well-chosen combination of tributes to the city itself and historic D.C. baseball teams. The graphic design of the block “WSH” and the cherry blossom decal is strong, and the blossom print pattern looks so. good.
1. Rockies. The Colorado license plate inspiration is one of the most creative, and very well executed with the mountain design and distinctive font, plus a unique color scheme for baseball. The hat logo and ski patch are clever and cohesive tie-ins too.
Overall, year 2 of the City Connect uniform rollout has turned out significantly better than year 1, with 5/7 year 1 unis in the bottom half of my ranking and 5/7 year 2s in the top half. This is likely a good sign for the rest of the teams coming in 2023/2024.
It’ll be really interesting to see what they do for the Twins, especially considering the big uniform/branding redesign the team has announced for next season. Hopefully that turns out good and not bad, and hopefully the Twins’ City Connects say “Twin Cities” on them, because c’mon, that’s as obvious a choice as it gets.

Eagle Ridge's General
Tumblr media
Eagle Ridge's General is getting a "Celebration Restoration" GALENA, IL. – The General at Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa isn’t your ordinary golf course – not by a long shot. So, it’s fitting that this Andy North-Roger Packard design isn’t getting the standard treatment for a course hitting its 25th anniversary. It’s getting a “Celebration Restoration’’ instead.  We’ll explain, but first know this: Not only is The General one of the very best courses in Illinois, it’s also the most different.  No 18-holer in Illinois has the 280 feet of elevation changes that The General has.  It’s a course that isn’t suitable for walking, but its views are unmatched. So is its history. John Schlaman was the director of golf at Eagle Ridge when The General was under construction. Schlaman, who would later direct the operation at Prairie Landing in West Chicago, is back now as head professional of the resort’s South Course. He can attest that the building of The General was no easy task 25 years ago. “Building that course was obviously difficult,’’ recalled Schlaman.  “What I remember most was the fire in the hole. For a lot of that course we had to dynamite stuff to create different routings. We also struggled with seeding on the 17th hole.  It’d wash out and had to be re-seeded.’’ That happened several times, to the dismay of the two architects. North was a two-time U.S. Open champion, and Packard, who also worked on two of the resort’s other three courses was the son of Larry Packard – one of the great architects of his generation.  Both Roger and Larry have passed on. Playing The General was always a memorable experience, but the course was never ideal.  Keeping the course in proper condition wasn’t easy, in large part because of its elevation changes. Previous owners were reluctant to deal with that. The nines were flipped after Mark Klausner took over ownership of the resort in 2019 and brought in Mike Weiler as director of golf. That was a big change, and a most positive one. More recently Weiler uncovered two “mystery tees.’’  They were there when North and Packard did their work but disappeared from the scorecard seven years ago. Weiler found what looked like overgrown tees at Nos. 6 and 8. To be sure he had superintendent Sam Marzahl conduct some soil tests that confirmed it. Now, rather than honor the reputation The General has built over 25 years, the Eagle Ridge leadership is focusing more on a restoration project centering on those “mystery tees’’ but it’ll go much further than restoring a couple of tee boxes. “We’re not so much celebrating as we are upgrading,’’ said Weiler. Marzahl was hired as The General’s superintendent two years ago, and he’s tackled a cleanup project encompassing the “mystery tees’’ that will lengthen those two holes and add still more spectacular views for the players. Other tees have been added and the end result may add as many as 400 yards to the layout from the back tees. Klausner, meanwhile, brought in Moline, IL.-based John Deere Co. for a much-needed replacement of maintenance equipment that was at least nine years old under the previous ownership. “A three-year deal for $1 million a year,’’ said Klausner.  “They’ve been super people to work with, and they teach us how to use the new equipment.’’ Klausner had also ordered an expansion of The Highlands restaurant, the moving of the Village Store and the creation of a new, very upscale Stonedrift Spa.  It’s scheduled to open in mid-September. That’ll be a story in itself when it’s ready. In the meantime the “Celebration Restoration’’ and spa opening will follow The Legends Dream Big Charity Golf Tournament, the highest profile event in resort history coming up on Aug. 10.  That celebrity-filled outing is one of the lead-ins to the following night’s Field of Dreams game between the Cubs and Cincinnati Reds in Dyersville, Ia., about an hour’s drive away. Eagle Ridge has more golf than just The General.  In all there’s 63 holes – 18 on both the North and South courses and nine on the sporty East layout. Larry Packard designed the North, which opened in 1977 and hosted the Illinois State Amateur right away. Gary Hallberg, who would become a multiple winner on the PGA Tour, was the champion. That event set the tone for what was to come. “Gary was 4-under on the North and the next year, when he won at Crestwicke (in Bloomington) he was 13-under,’’ said Weiler. That underscored the fact that Eagle Ridge had a course of championship caliber. “The North had just a ton of elevation changes,’’ said Schlaman.  “You didn’t see (PGA) tour events on courses like that.’’ And you still don’t. The South, which opened in 1984, was a combined effort by Larry and Roger Packard and Roger would later create the East, which is shorter but is certainly no executive course. Weiler admits that all the resort’s courses had problems. “The condition of the courses, we had issues,’’ he said.  “Now we’re getting compliments on every golf course.’’ He also found a new forward tee at No. 5 on The General that won’t impact the course’s yardage and – in one of the most visual changes – a bunker fronting the No. 6 green has been reconstructed with railroad ties put in place. A new back tee which would lengthen No. 10 is also under consideration. While the “celebration renovation’’ has a catchy title, Weiler labels the in-house project more a “tee enlargement program’’ that was needed to bring back the looks that North and Roger Packard originally created. “Roger and Andy created some visual objects than can confuse your eye,’’ said Weiler, who had never played an Eagle Ridge course until Klausner hired him. “This has been so exciting,’’ said Weiler, noting the resort has 182 new golf members. “We want to move past that.  Eagle Ridge is back!’’ Read the full article

The Smallest Blade (Part xi)
Summary:  AU. Kolivan knew raising a half-Galra cub wouldn’t be an easy task, especially while running a super secretive organization dedicated to bringing down a corrupt empire. What he didn’t take in consideration was how much the boy would change his life.
Also posted on AO3 under the username Kishirokitsune

xi.
Two years passed in a flash.
Ulaz kept Keith plenty busy, running him through all kinds of drills until he found himself sneaking up on people without even intending to. He learned how to stop and listen; to examine his surroundings before acting and how to use the intel he was told to his advantage. Basic first aid was quickly added to his studies once Ulaz learned of his more instinctive fighting style and that furthered Keith's understanding of how hard he could push himself and the lasting damage that could happen if he left some injuries without treatment.
His trial was mere days away.
Keith tightened his grip on the railing as he watched the newest batch of trainees run the gauntlet that was set up for them. Around him, older members of the Blade of Marmora silently watched them and made their picks for who they wanted to train, if they wanted any of them.
“Katla will be next,” Ulaz murmured.
Keith nodded, watching intently as the current trainee was caught and pinned by Antok, who was one of three senior members positioned within the gauntlet as a test.
It was set up differently than Keith remembered it, but it was basically the same big room with corridors and locked doors. He was pretty sure there was a system of vents to add a little realism, though they weren't functioning. With his top-down view he could clearly see the traps that were set up, as well as the exact positions of the senior members, who were arranged so that trainees would encounter at least one of them before they reached the end.
He knew it was all to test what level they were at and to showcase the skills they already had, but that didn't stop Keith from feeling nervous as he waited for Katla's turn to come. That was the whole reason he postponed his trial. He didn't need the distraction.
Ulaz shifted aside as they were joined by another Galra.
Keith glanced up and then immediately had to do a double take as he recognized Shiro had come to join them. “You made it!”
“I didn't miss your big day and I wasn't about to miss Katla's either,” Shiro said, casually bracing himself against the railing. “I wanted to make sure I got in my pick early and then I stopped to talk to Ranzaria.”
Ulaz made a curious sound. “I wasn't aware she had returned.”
“She got in early today. I didn't get the full story, but her undercover assignment was compromised, so she'll be around for a while,” Shiro said.
Keith tried to pay attention to what Shiro was saying about his old mentor, but he got a little stuck on the idea that Shiro was late because he was putting his name down to train someone. He guessed it made sense, since he and Katla were old enough that they didn't need him to watch after them anymore, but it was weird to think about.
Ulaz suddenly chuckled. “He'll feel that in the morning.”
“At least Antok looks like he's having fun,” Shiro replied.
Keith looked down in time to see Antok hauling the new trainee off of the floor, after apparently flipping him so hard that he was too disoriented to stand on his own. Keith winced in sympathy.
After a quick reset it was finally Katla's turn. She stood outside the first door, waiting for it to open and signal the start of her run. She shifted her stance and took off down the hall to her right, bypassing the first door and stopping near a control panel to the one after that. Katla picked at the underside of her bracer and pulled free a small cable, which she hooked into the control panel to produce a quick map.
Before the start of the gauntlet, each trainee was given a uniform and the basic tools they would learn, but no instruction on how to use them. Some were lucky and had prior knowledge and others had to learn on the fly. Like Keith, Katla had grown up surrounded by the Blade of Marmora and already knew a few tricks.
Katla glanced over the map. Once she had a good idea of the layout, she unplugged and started moving once again.
Keith held his breath as Katla approached the space where the first senior Blade was hidden. (What was his name again? Zarten? Zarthen? No, Zantar.) She ducked the first swing of his staff and rolled past him, popping back up to her feet as she unhooked her own staff and jabbed Zantar in the side before he could stop her.
The lighting on Zantar's suit went out and he bowed to Katla, allowing her to pass.
“She's doing well,” Ulaz said.
Katla carried on, tripping up once when she encountered a security droid. She quickly backtracked when she saw it and managed to break into one of the side rooms before it could reach her. She took a moment to look around before hurrying across the room and hopping up onto a crate placed against the far wall. It boosted her up enough that she was able to reach a grate on the wall, which she carefully pried free.
“Well now...” Ulaz sounded amused as they all watched Katla climb into the vent. “She will keep her mentor on their toes for certain. I almost feel bad for whoever picks her.”
“I've managed for seven years, so I think I'll be fine.”
Keith jerked his eyes away from watching Katla's progress in order to stare up at Shiro in shock. The tiniest sliver of jealousy welled up inside of him and he tried to shove it down. “You're going to be her mentor?”
“Nothing is official yet, but I did put my name down,” Shiro said. He looked around to make sure no one was close enough to overhear and then lowered his voice. “One day you and Katla will be partners. The mentors that Kolivan assign will help ensure that you have the skills and abilities to balance each other out.” He paused to make sure he had Keith's full attention and then continued: “I would have been proud to be your mentor, Keith, but it wouldn't have been what is best for you.”
“Perhaps it would be best to explain this later,” Ulaz remarked.
Shiro inclined his head in agreement.
Keith was left with even more to think about as he watched Katla ease herself out of another end of the vents and start to make her way toward where Antok was waiting at the end. Like the other three trainees, she fell to him in the end, though she did put up a good challenge by avoiding his attacks for several doboshes.
The thought of one day being partners with Katla was nice. He knew only of a few pairs, including Antok and Kolivan, but hadn't thought he would ever be lucky enough to be one of them.
“Come. We should congratulate Katla on a job well done,” Ulaz said, turning away from the railing to lead the way.
Keith felt a little more at ease as he followed his mentor with Shiro right behind them. Things were looking interesting for the future and he couldn't wait to see how it would all pan out.

Hey, I was wondering if you’re still continuing on your awesome story, innocence and experience?
OH YES I DEFINITELY AM!! And I’m super sorry on how dead everything here has been; I’ve been working a lot next to being a full-time student, so it really has affected my activity here. Not to mention I hit a major slump in my writing and felt like I’m only churning out garbage, so I had to take a step back in order to let myself breathe for a moment. After all, I want my writing to be fun and not tedious, that will greatly reflect on the tone of the story – BUT! I’ve recently started writing a few smaller pieces again and I’m hoping some of that will inspire me to pick up my slack when it comes to innocence & experience. I managed to start the next chapter, I just gotta crunch out the general layout and try to see if I should swap it with another idea for storyline reasons.
TLDR: the Tiger Cub series is definitely not dead and only on hold due to personal reasons – but it will continue!

bella! new layout! it is very pretty! the light blue is very nice (is it a different shade than before?? i think it is. either way it is a very nice color). luke also looks very pretty in ur new pfp and atl looks pretty as always in your header. hope things have been well for you!! obligatory baseball mention: i have not really been watching the cubs. it just reminds me that i miss all my fav players who no longer play there. also they’ve lost like 9 games in a row now and lost 14-10 today and 17-4 yesterday. i am begging them to stop giving up runs. anywho. let’s see ummm i am missing seeing atl in st louis tomorrow (well technically today since it’s 1am but that’s just semantics) which i’m sort of sad about but also not since concerts are starting to seem sorta sketchy and like super spreader events. even being vaxxed and wearing a mask i would probably feel uncomfy the whole time. i drove for like 2 hours today and it made me very tired. long drives are so tiresome and for what reason. i’m sort of rambling. but it’s the tiredness hitting my brain. i am off to sleep now. sending love and good vibes your way. final question, have you listened to luke’s solo album yet?? i haven’t. here’s some lore about me ig, when i was like 13(?) i was secretly in love with 5sos but didn’t think i was allowed to like more than one band at a time so i never told anyone i liked them. i was a closeted 5sos stan. anyways. i’ve always distantly appreciated them since then and would like to know if his solo album is worth the listen since i’m always on the lookout for good music. alright now i am leaving for real mwah - tragically cubs anon
this is an update to the ask i just sent the blog color is now PINK!! pastel pink!!! one of my fav colors. we will pretend i did not mention the blue no way i did not see your blog mid-renovation nope not at all. i adore the pink it is very very pretty - cubs anon (again)
other bella i can't even talk about the nationals. it's so embarrassing. i think i'm reaching my limit i need to turn off notifications about scores because it just depresses me. imagine me following this nats-braves game tonight. tragic. rebuild season is the worst
anyway!!! thank you!!!! i like this new look, honestly i think i was overdue for a change in ~vibe~ around here i've had mr. ashton cocktailchats basically since i made the blog almost a year and a half ago and that's far too long. i mean i love him but cmon. it was time to change it up. also luke has been looking just simply criminally good lately. so there was really no question
i loooooove long drives they are tiring but if you have the right vibe they can be so good so much fun and also just . Feels Good Feels Organic idk i'm a big fan of long drives personally
THAT'S really funny okay well yes i did listen to luke's album, and i'm sorry you never got to live your 5sos stan dreams but it's never too late to start. however independently of that i would very much recommend wfttwtaf it has a really good vibe overall like just sonically it feels nice also i confess i don't know much about your music taste (we should change that, what music do you like???) but going in blind i'm gonna recommend the album cos i really enjoyed it

1. The World's Unbeatable Sports Betting System- This is the where people normally ask if this is a Sports Betting Champ scam. A 97% success tariff system? But, the 97% fate rate is on bets made, not on games played. True this system is one that is best utilized by a fellow with a bankroll to back them up. But, it is surprisingly easy to use.
The draft determines certain low risk bets, which can be predicted well ahead of time. That translates to only betting approx 40% of the time. Approximately, 120 games out of the year between the two seasons. It uses a mold of martingale wagering, applied to a three quarry series. Based on the premise that the staff bet is sure to winnings one out of three games. Once your team wins one in the series, your done betting that series. This plot also comes with a 67% luck tariff NFL system, and lifetime of free picks, well importance the $197 payment tag!
