Belt Boy’s analogies still have an awkward charm to them…
This could have been a simple “talking heads” strip, but I got a little experimental with a three-quarters angle in panel 4, and close-up of Belt Boy’s hot cocoa in panel 1. I’m particularly proud of the latter. :-)
You might have noticed Caped Cod is falling asleep. Having an adorable pet fall asleep in your arms is typically quite comforting… at least until your arm falls asleep. Still, thought he’d lend some cuteness and coziness to the scene when BB could use some positivity.
Just a reminder that my #artcontest continues through my birthday on May 19th, and it’s celebrating 15 years of my comic! Woo-hoo!

Titanium Maiden connects the dots.
To his credit, Dave wouldn’t intentionally let his friends do all the work on a group project. He just gets bored (and subsequently sleepy) very, very quickly. He might be the main reason Noel has some caffeine ready for the three of them.
The “Back to the Past” Arcade and Laser Tag Center is both a reference to Back to the Future (The obsolescence of arcades reminds me of that scene from BttF2 where kids don’t recognize an old arcade machine) and the theme song of a certain video game nerd known for his anger. The “Laser Tag Center” part is also a callback to Belt Boy and Cannon mentioning they played laser tag WAY back in the Yellow Vs. Blue storyline.
I just wanted to mention that my favorite part of this whole strip is the three friends looking smug and Dave making the “gimmie” hand gesture.
If the front page of my website looks a teeny, tiny bit different, there’s a reason. With some sadness, I’ve removed the 910CMX Community banner from my page. The 910CMX was the first webcomic community my comic was a part of… and it kinda fell apart in more recent years. The banner no longer works, and I haven’t been able to log into the forums in ages (Wow… remember when FORUMS were popular?). I’ll always be grateful to 910CMX for getting my comic some recognition for the first time, and I’ll miss it. But it’s time to move on.
Speaking of the passage of time… it’s that time of year again! I’m celebrating my birthday - and my comic’s FIFTEENTH birthday! - with my annual Birthday Fan Art Contest! There’s a link to the full rules on the main page at http://TheHeroesOfCRASH.com. Whether you’re submitting art or an avatar of my characters, you’ve got until May 19th to send me something! With such a big milestone as HoC’s 15th anniversary (and after such a lousy year as 2020), I want to see your best work! Good luck!
The main difference between DC and Marvel is DC likes to pretend their lady characters are weaker so that the men take center stage. While Marvel pretends their ladies are super duper omega powerful just to spite dc and so that the men have to stop the all powerful and obvi morally corrupt women. (Sometimes it’s reversed!)
DC: Raven, Zatanna, Starfire, Star Sapphire, Supergirl, Wonder Woman, Poison Ivy, Enchantress, Vixen, Mera, Hawkgirl, Shiva
Marvel: Jean Grey, Scarlet Witch, Emma Frost, Hela, Invisible Woman, Enchantress, Gamora, Black Widow, Elektra, Cuckoos, Captain Marvel
(I’m sorta kinda kidding >_> for legal purposes)
Superhero satire starring two sullen, indifferent teenage girls named Caitlin and Kaitlin. An as-yet-undeveloped comics series. The thumbnail sketch for this art dates from March of 2012; digital coloring was (finally) completed a few days ago. TM and © 2012 Marc Hempel – but you knew that already.
Pride before a FALL.
Super-Bluebird over-estimates her power, and is made to look a fool
This is… AWESOME!! Bluebird’s eternal crotch disaster continues…
A wistful Belt Boy reminisces about Dave and Noel.
I actually wrote this strip earlier into the story; this was supposed to happen two strips ago, right after Noel suggested inventing the hoverboard. However, I felt that the transition was awkward and abrupt, so I wrote two more strips in between. By adding those strips, I feel as though it fleshed out my characters a little bit more.
By the way, due to my having to fix an error in the original image I posted, Belt Boy’s couch may appear white on the website, and it seems stuck like that for now.
I don’t always like to draw backgrounds, but when I do, I like them to be a bit less outlined and slightly more abstract that the foreground. It’s partly inspired by the Saturday morning cartoons that inspired The Heroes of C.R.A.S.H. in the first place. In the cartoons of my childhood, characters and props were painted onto cels, while backgrounds were painted onto an entirely separate layer. Many Looney Tunes cartoons had backgrounds with sharp edges and no outlines.
This image is more of a request.
The Color Guard is team my better half and I created last summer.
Eva an Atlantean human hybrid(yellow and blue)
Maya AKA Longbow with elastic powers(purple)
Vincent with fire manipulation and flight (red and yellow)
Victor healing fire and force fields (green and black)
Venus blue flames a more intense heat level than Vincent can reach(blue and red)
Zeek the muscle despite his appearance and super strength is only 11 years old. His father is Red Hot Reese a bruiser villain with fire powers.
Pistol Pam a city girl who loves play cowgirl. Able to shoot destructive concussive energy from her fingers. Likes to shout “Pew Pew” when using her power. Speaks with a fake southern accent. Ten years old.
Merek the Naughty Knight. Well trained swordsman with enchanted armor and weaponry. Pistol Pam’s older brother at eleven years old. Likes to talk using terms from medieval times.
Bad Barry unofficial leader. His adoptive parents are Yeti and Remind. He has the ability to teleport himself and others over and short and great distances. This 10year old loves to pull pranks.
Becca and Leslie are two of my favorite original characters. Becca is a second generation hero her father is a hero from Britain and her mom is semi retired pro wrestler from Japan. She has rough less conventional way of being hero. Leslie AKA Phenom is the first in her family to have powers initially triggered by her necklace she only wears it as keepsake. She wants to be the best and strives to be a more traditional hero. They tend to but heads but they work well together and have a common friend in Tyro AKA Sakura(not pictured).
Things not going to plan!

Goddesses and gods, mortals,…
Konnect was exhausted and out of breath. Her every muscle screamed. The desire to give up the chase had set in and was growing with every step. But she couldn’t just let her quarry go. He was a prolific armed mugger who had killed one man and left a young woman fighting for her life in hospital. Konnect had managed to find him during his most recent attempt, the blade still in his hand as he had sprinted away from her. She skidded to a halt as she reached the end of the alleyway. The thrill of the chase pumped adrenaline through her and she looked around urgently. Before her was a brick wall, too tall for the man to have climbed without her seeing him disappearing over the top. The alleyway walls were completely free of doors, ladders or windows the man could have forced himself through.
“Where did he go?” she demanded through the constant phone call.
She continued to look around as her partner, Rick, stammered into her ear. She was using her powers to call him while he sat in their base, watching CCTV to ensure she didn’t lose the suspect and checking that no bigger crimes were happening that would require the superhero to intervene.
Taylor Springer winced as she heard a computer in the back room of the shop begin to bleep urgently. She had been helping Rick set up the laptop of an elderly customer who relied on their computer repair shop for all technological advice and sent her friend a look of alarm as she began to slip away. They had been nervously awaiting the inevitable call into action.
Taylor was almost out of the room when their elderly client noticed the noise.
“What is that?” he asked. “Nothing bad I hope.”
Rick sent Taylor a knowing look. It was something bad. The sort of something bad that would require immediate attention. Still, he scrambled to reassure the man, a Mr Hendriks, that it was nothing.
“It’s just a computer telling me it has finished compiling,” Taylor said, flashing Mr Hendriks a winning smile as she hurried from the room.
It had started out as a request. Their old boss had asked Rick to walk Taylor home because the neighbourhood she lived in wasn’t the safest. Then it had become tradition. He’d enjoyed their walks where they talked about school and work and their hobbies.
Eventually, it had become an inside joke because of the absurdity of Taylor, the city’s superhero, needing to be walked home. They’d talk about the crimes they had stopped, about the homework they needed to find time to do and joke that Taylor should be walking Rick home instead.
It was raining that night and Taylor didn’t have an umbrella – hers had broken during a particularly nasty storm and she’d not gotten round to replacing it – so the two walked close together, sheltering under Rick’s.
Why have a favorite.. when I can like them all?? ;) -💋TV
