Sokovia and Spiders (Chapter 1)
Rating-teen and up
All Chapters
Hail races away from the grey clouds above, meeting their mark they feel like freezing bullets when they hit Peter’s suit. There’s an actual bullet heading towards him right now, slicing through the air as a knife would butter. Appearing in the form of a prickle of apprehension his spidey sense warns him of it, giving him enough time to flip out of the way before splashing back onto the gravel. Within minutes of sneaking out of the apartment his suit had been drenched, the colour darkened to navy and blood red. The hail is a hallmark of New York winters right along with freezing breezes and angry people, summers might bring forth warmth, but winters bring a blistering hot derived from the anger of New York’s citizens.
Spiderman had been on his way back home when he heard the commotion, the reason for the noise became quickly apparent as he leaned over the edge of the rooftop. A man was stood there, in one hand he was waved a gun threateningly in the air, in the other he was clutching the coat of a young woman. Despite his words being slurred and the stench of alcohol he was steady on his feet when he demanded her purse. He didn’t seem like the type of guy to use an authentic weapon but Peter was unwilling to take that chance. She hadn’t yet had a chance to react when spiderman leapt from the roof. He braced himself against the impact of the kick that made the assailant stumble backwards. Before he had the chance to regain his footing the woman took the opportunity to escape, heels clicking on the ground mark her departure. The moments distraction provided the criminal with ample time adjust his stance and pull the trigger.
Now there’s a bullet lodged in the brick wall, cracks spiralling from where it imploded, having sailed through the air where Peter had been standing only seconds earlier. Irritated at the murder attempt Peter flicks his wrist, he can just about hear the click of the web shooter mechanism firing before the criminal is secured to the wall.
‘’Hey, hey, hey, this is a new suit.’’ The guy just shouts obscenities at him from his place on the wall, eyes red around the edges, his scowl turning the lines on his face into deep crevices. Peter’s too busy looking at the newly formed hole in the wall, to pay any notice. In his mind's eye he can see what would have happened if the bullet hadn’t missed, metal slicing through spandex and skin before ripping through muscle. Turning his insides into a bloody smoothie. Damp gravel crunching under his weigh as blood loss causes him to crumple. He’d never been shot before, and he’s not adding it to his bucket list any time soon.
Inserting a new canister into his suit, his finger quick to fire. He hoists himself upwards, as soon as the web is secured onto a nearby lamppost, before sending a second. The rain has let up slightly as he swings through the city, no longer feeling like violent needles sticking into his skin.
Peter can hear him before he can see him, super senses allowing him to detect the suit’s inner engines from streets away. Why Ironman is hovering over the city at 11pm on a Tuesday is anyone's guess. Racking his mind for answers Peter theorises that he was after some criminal trading black market Stark tech. This area was halfway to home and a rough area of the city, infamous for its active drug gangs and weapons dealings. Yeah, that made sense.
Still, Spiderman slips into the alley, between two apartment blocks, hoping he'd either fly overhead or spontaneously change direction. He wasn’t hiding exactly, just temporarily avoiding. Ironman ignores Peter's inner prayer and continues onward. Just a couple of blocks away now, Peter can hear another accompanying voice.
‘’Do you have eyes on?’’ The question has a tinny quality about it, undetectable to most, making Peter think there must be a radio installed in his suit relaying the words.
Fortunately, he can’t recognise the voice, meaning Captain America or Thor are unlikely to drop in on him at any moment. Letting curiosity get the better of him he strains to hear more, hoping in this scenario curiosity doesn't kill the cat- or the spider in this case.
‘’No, not yet. Police reports confirm he’s been in this area recently.’’
‘’Maybe he’s already gone.’’
Peter’s stomach tumbles uncomfortably listening to the conversation unfold. They could be talking about someone else. They probably are. They have no reason to be hunting him. Though with Parker's luck there’s a good chance they are.
Still, there’s nothing to confirm this until, ‘’No, the web-slinger might be quick, but he doesn’t have super speed.’’ Unless his brand image has been stolen and there’s another web-slinging hero flinging himself around New York then it’s probably him.
Can I sue if there is? Peter wonders.
To be fair, hunting gangs is more of a Daredevil rather than an avenger thing. Ironman is practically on top of him now, a few more metres and he could look down and see him hanging from the wall uselessly. Futilely Peter shuffles down, wondering if it was better to be discovered or reveal himself. ‘’Hold on. I installed heat detecting sensors last week.’’
The flight part of fight or flight should kick in now, but at this moment, it evades Peter. Leaving him frozen as thin metal panels slide into place in Stark’s suit. ‘’See anything?’’
Ironman ignores the question in favour of hovering a little closer. So, he can glance directly into the mouth of the alleyway. Without the barriers of cloth and metal, Peter is sure they would be making awkward, uncomfortable eye contact right now.
When the silence continues for a beat too long Peter fills it, ‘’Err, Hi? I’m a big fan.’’

It’s been forever since I’ve posted on this hellsite, but does anyone have any suggestions for things to add to the Sokovia Accords? I’m tryna create a version of the Accords (like in literal bill form) and ideas would be nice for the future. Help

Scanning My Collection> That Time Iron Fist Cosplayed As Daredevil
BW Media Spotlight's Scanning My Collection cleans up a bit of the "Yesterday's" Comic Iron Fist reviews with That Time Iron Fist Cosplayed As Daredevil
If you haven’t been following the daily comic reviews from when this came out, I’ve been doing a review of the “Last Iron Fist Story” arc from the 2007 version of The Immortal Iron Fist. Series numbering has become a bigger mess than trying to follow the Golden Age comics with all the renumbering, restarts, and namesakes. It’s actually kind of annoying. Anyway, I’ve been reviewing the story…

I went to the Marvel: Universe of Super Heroes exhibit and wanted to share for anyone who has not seen it. I am under the impression that the installation changes from location to location so I wanted to show this snapshot in time. I fully admit to being biased in what I will post so if you want to see a particular character, please let me know! Apologies ahead of time for my crappy photo taking skills.
🔵⚪️🔵⚪️🔵
Steve Rogers (Captain America)
Tumblr media
The whole tour started off with Steve featuring immediately. You can see Captain America all throughout the exhibit but in the room that was more focused on him, Steve was sharing the space with Sam and Bucky.
The picture above was from a small monitor showing different designs and CGI work. I particularly loved this concept sketch. The extra long eyelashes are on point. 👍
Tumblr media
The iconic comic cover of Captain America punching Hitler was one of the first items shown in the exhibit.
Tumblr media
I thought it was interesting that half of Steve’s plaque was about Bucky. 🤣🤣🤣
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was honestly a bit intimidating to stand beside the uniform. Chris isn't the tallest of the bunch but still plenty tall! It just felt really impactful. This was worn by him in Age of Ultron.
Tumblr media
The urge to smash and grab this was very strong. 😝😝😝 I loved the "As wielded by Chris Evans". This particular shield was used in Endgame.
Tumblr media
Steve's various interactions with American presidents. Bush Jr. criticizing Steve for resisting against the Superhuman Registration Act which led to "Civil War", makes me even more glad that I was always Team Cap.
But maybe more importantly:
OBAMA WAS THE ONE WHO PARDONED BUCKY IN THE COMICS?!?! HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS BEFORE???
Tumblr media
The Tesseract. Without the CGI for the glowing blue, it was mostly just clear. But still very cool.
Tumblr media
I admit I am not that knowledgeable about the comics and seeing this "Cap's Kooky Quartet" made me go on a Google info hunt. But basically the other Avengers are tired and abandon Steve to go on vacation and without his knowledge, hire the "New" Avengers line up of Clint, Wanda, and Pietro...who are at this point newbies and basically criminals. From what I gather, it was a lot of bickering and shenanigans (Clint calls Steve "Glamor Pants"!!). I found this incredibly helpful post to explain the dynamic and also please look at this adorable picture of Dad Steve and his Misfit Kids.
Tumblr media
The exhibit ended with the gift shop and I had to ask myself, "Do I REALLY need a soup bowl shaped like Steve's head?". He was definitely the character the most heavily present in merchandise! I was tempted to buy this Marvel cookbook but I do think it was a missed chance for Steve. I mean, okay, I get it. The beef tongue as a nod to living through the Depression. But I would have made corned beef tongue in an acknowledgment to his Irish roots. Just my two cents. 😘😘😘
This is just a small sample of Steve in the exhibit and this post would have gotten way too long if I tried to fit it all! I had a lot of fun and I'm so glad I had a chance to see it!

Are there any notable examples of anti-mutant prejudice towards the X-Men coming from within the superhero community?
This is a great question!
This gets to the complicated nature of how mutants fit into the Marvel Universe. I've always been a vocal proponent of the idea that, far from the mutant metaphor only making sense if it's in its own little bubble where mutants are the only people with superpowers, the mutant metaphor actually functions better in the context of the Marvel Universe, because it allows you to explore more complicated and more subtle ways that prejudice functions.
Tumblr media
While there are plenty of super-villains who have quite blatant anti-mutant prejudice, you don't tend to get that same kind of overt bigotry towards mutants among super-heroes. Partly, this is because bigotry is a very unheroic character trait, but it also has to do with the way that the way that Marvel historically portrayed the spillover effects of anti-mutant prejudice.
Following in a kind of Niemöllerian logic, it's almost always the case that groups that hate and fear mutants also end up hating and fearing non-mutant superheroes. Thus, Days of Future Past starts with the Sentinels being turned on mutants, but it ends with the Sentinels wiping out the Avengers and the Fantastic Four too - because the same atavistic fear of "the great replacement" applies to both mutants and mutates. Likewise, the same forces that line up to push through the Mutant Registration Act inevitably end up proposing a Superhuman Registration Act, because once you've violated the precepts of equality under the law for one minority group, you establish a precedent to do it to another.
Tumblr media
Instead, I would argue what you see in the case of anti-mutant prejudice among superheroes is explorations of liberal prejudice. This takes many different forms: in Civil War, you see Tony Stark insensitively try to wave the bloody shirt of Stamford in the face of a survivor of the Genoshan genocide or Carol playing the good liberal ally but ultimately trying to get mutants to set aside their own struggle in favor of her own political project. (For someone who's spent a good deal of time working, and living with, the X-Men, occasionally against the interests of the state, Carol does have a tendency to stick her foot in her mouth. Hence in Civil War II, you see Carol essentially goysplaining the dangers of creeping authoritarianism to Magneto.)
In Avengers vs X-Men, you see the Avengers acting like they know the Phoenix Force better than mutants and ultimately prioritizing the safety of mankind over the efforts of mutantkind to reverse their own extinction. This is where the "Avengers are cops" meme in the fandom comes from. (I would argue that Captain America is badly mischaracterized in the latter event - we know which side he's on when the interests of mutants and the interests of the state come into conflict.)
The common thread here is that anti-mutant prejudice among superheroes emerges as a kind of unthinking, unreflective callousness brought on by a worldview that thinks of humans as the universal default of lived experience - while thinking of mutants as a somewhat annoying special interest group that fixates on their particularist grievances rather than working for what the heroes consider to be the common good.
Tumblr media
For a more intimate version of how this plays out, I think the Fantastic Four are a great exploration of how "well-meaning" liberals can massively fuck up when they don't do the work of examining their own biases. We've seen this since the very beginning: in Fantastic Four #21, Kirby goes out of his way to depict uber-WASP Reed Richards blithely assuming that the "free market of ideas" will take care of the Hatemonger, while the subtextually Jewish Ben Grimm knows that the way to deal with a mind-controlling Hitler clone wearing purple Klan robes is deplatforming-by-way-of-clobberin'.
Then later on, we see Reed Richards debate Congress out of passing a Superhuman Registration Act, while saying nothing about the Mutant Registration Act - even though he has a mutant son who is directly threatened by it. (See that adorable blond moppet with the slur scrawled across his face in the fictional advertisement above? That's Franklin Richards.) This is why I have a crack theory that Franklin's biological father is actually Namor rather than Reed, which is why Reed so consistently shows a passive-aggressive hostility to his son's mutancy.
Tumblr media
At the same time, Sue also has her blindspots when it comes to mutant rights. In the underrated FF/X miniseries, Susan Storm acts like an understanding and supportive parent to Franklin - right up until someone suggests that Franklin might want to come to Krakoa and explore his mutant identity, at which point she goes full Karen and starts lashing out with her powers. Chip Zdarsky, the writer, explicitly compared Reed and Sue to liberal parents who support gay rights in the abstract until their kid comes out as trans and wants to spend time in LGBT+ spaces.

Percy Jackson & the Sokovian Accords
The Sokovian Accords have been activated and all children with powers are the victims, including Peter Parker & Percy Jackson.
Unfortunately, Tony Stark was not able to influence these Accords enough while recovering from being almost killed by Steve Rogers in Siberia and the Accords authority ended up more like a worldwide version of the MRA (Mutant Registration Act) & SRA (Superhuman Registration Act).
The Accords registered and imprisoned all mutants (including children) and began training more combat-oriented powers to work for the government as “special forces.”
Reward money is offered anyone with information on suspected mutants and, unfortunately, many remember Percy grabbing Nancy Bobofit with water in the Lightning Thief and Peter being weirdly strong after the Radioactive Spider Bite.
Both are thrown in a cell together and protect each other, becoming very close.

Part of it is Chloe embellishing because she's ALSO mad (remember, she used to look up to Ladybug), but like...
Yeah, France has abolished the death penalty, but at the same time anyone who wants it reinstated could PROBABLY point to how FOUR people were able to work together to overthrow the government without any outside help, simply because THREE of them had supernatural powers.
What I'm saying is that, if this was Marvel's Earth, we'd be looking at something akin to the Superhuman Registration Act that kicked off the first Civil War event.
Fair enough
But also yeah like. In any other series a Hero teaming up with the villain openly to run a political figure out of office would be such a red flag.
In ML it's just lmao girl boss 13 year old girls are the biggest evil and it's okay to commit war crimes to stop them from being mean!

Actual things that really happened to Morbius in the comics:
He beat the crap out of the entire X-men team that was sent to apprehend him.
Criticized Black Cat for caring about her teammates and then not one second later got burnt to a crisp shielding her.
Was taken down by a shotgun blast to the chest from a normal human thug.
Blew himself up with a bomb to try and be heroic and self-sacrificing.
Trapped Blade into getting registered for the superhuman registration act. Blade was not happy.
Developed a vaccine against a zombie virus which then accidentally infected a teammate, and then he accidentally made the virus go airborne.
Lost his actual soul. No, really.
Choked Dr. Strange in an alley to stop him from spellcasting. Less kinky than it sounds.
Stole the dead body of Curt Conner’s kid.
Fixed Walter’s control of her She-Hulk powers. He then had her represent him in court.
Drank drug-tainted blood and went on a trip so bad Dr. Strange had to save his ass from Nightmare.
Had a giant cat person sicced on him. Cat person then kidnaps him to the planet of the catpeople.
Hung out at a goth club of humans pretending to be vampires.
Fought a guy literally named Helleyes. Yes, he is composed of eyes. His dimension had singing crabs.
Resurrected his fiance’ with a page of the Marvel Necronomicon. (Oh come on, that’s what it is.)
Got in the middle of a war between some galactic followers of eugenics and a Satanic priest.
Got in the middle of another war between the demon Lillith and literally every angsty hero in Marvel.
Used trans-dimensional armbands to go to another planet in an attempt to lock himself where he can do no harm. But too bad because then...
Got taken over by an alien that feeds on emotions and forced back to earth to fight Spidey. Spidey wins by using a football game.
Kept Jack Russel, an actual werewolf in his apartment. Helping him through that time of the month, ya’ know?
Got taken over by a demon himself off and on for YEARS. Finally got rid of it by filtering his own blood.
Cured someone of vampirism with his bite.
Turned other people vampire with his bite. Comic book consistency I GUESS.
went into a BDSM shop to buy a costume.
Threw a body off a roof with a note on it to see if Spidey was paying attention to him. I mean it worked.
Helped build an underground city for monsters then served as their physician.
Ate a sandwich out of a trash can.
Was seduced by Marie Laveau so she could drink his blood. Turnabout is fair play.
Was actually choked and insulted by Dracula. Deserved it.
And this has been brought up before but... Cured by being struck by lightning while drinking from Spidey at a Halloween party.

People's History of the Marvel Universe, Week 20: The (Mutant) Registration Act(s) Analyzed
People's History of the Marvel Universe, Week 20: The (Mutant) Registration Act(s) Analyzed. @StevenAttewell delivers another history lesson in the #marvel universe! #comics #comicbooks #marvelcomics
In his sixteen-year tenure of the X-line, Chris Claremont put his own spin on the mutant metaphor any number of ways, but one of the longest-lasting and most influential has been the idea of a Mutant Registration Act. In the original Days of Future Past storyline, Claremont first mentions the Mutant Control Act passed by a “rabid anti-mutant candidate…elected president,” as a reaction to the…

@h-osborn asked for a starter from BuckyCap
Red Skull. It was always the fucking Red Skull. The lunatic bastard had been a problem since World War II, and he didn't seem like he'd be stopping anytime soon. It had looked at first as if he'd died in the chaos of the aftermath of Steve's assassination, but it had turned out that Arnim Zola -- another monster who needed putting down -- had transferred his old boss' consciousness into a robotic body similar to Zola's own.
Keeping the committed fascists down was even harder than keeping down the roaches in the tenement apartment Bucky had grown up in. At least Sinthea Schmidt was in custody and couldn't help her father carry out his twisted plans.
It didn't feel right to Bucky, facing the Red Skull without Steve at her side, but Steve was gone, and all his best friend could do was try her hardest to carry out his final wishes. Still, the shield was a heavy weight to bear sometimes.
She'd kept in touch with what was left of Steve's Secret Avengers, as well as some of the other vigilantes who were still operating in defiance of the Superhuman Registration Act, and it wasn't unusual for some of them to seek her out while she was at work. So she wasn't completely surprised when the mysterious vigilante who called himself Goblin tracked her down as she was investigating the Red Skull case.
"Good to see you," she said, sliding the shield onto her back. "What's going on today?"

(UP)RISING is an AU MCU site, where Congress has just proposed the Superhuman Registration Act; and tenisons over the legislation is beginning to divide both heroes and villains alike. And ever since SHIELD fell - the DODC has risen up to take their place, and their aims aren’t nearly so altruistic.
We have many canons still open, including multiple Avengers and mutants! Particularly seeking Brotherhood members, Luke Cage, Sam Wilson, Kurt Wagner, and other major canons! Many great want ads available.

they were so scared to give amadeus a side during the last registration storyline. Outlawed i think. Like i think of all of the little registration storylines Outlawed was the one where I was like Yeah i definitely can see why people would want to do that, but Amadeus was hunted down because of the superhuman registration act because he protected himself getting killed by those weird helicopters following him in his origin. So he should have been very against any law that would make a child be hunted down. Especially since he is pretty staunchly anti government. So i find it weird that he wasn't loudly against it
