on your recent statements I have two semi questions-

1. are there any groups not known to be harmful? how are people collaborating to better understand this stuff?

2. if one does unknowingly end up in one of these harmful groups, what should they do?

The two types of groups I've found to not be harmful are a) groups that don't impose one way of shifting, meaning that different views and beliefs are allowed, and b) groups that are very reality focused and place little focus on the supernatural. Neither should be packs or "family-focused", they should be more like online forums for shifters to talk in, and physically shifting (or escaping one's humanity) should not be the goal of the group in question. The mod team should be able to deal with the standard issues that might arise moderating a forum such as people looking to cause confusion, kicking out trolls and creeps, discouraging dangerous ideas, etc. Skeptics should be allowed to enter and talk, provided they're following the rules and not harassing members. (Note: by non-harmful I mean not encouraging unhealthy practices, forcing rituals or "making people shifters" or generally being cultish.)

It also shouldn't need to be said, but the groups should also be free of racism, sexism, ableism, queerphobia, suicide-baiting, etc. It should also be free of dodgy behavior - nobody should be asking for say, nude pictures of you or wanting you to do inappropriate things to others. These aren't shifter-specific issues, but if a group has these problems it's just unhealthy irregardless of shifting being there.

A good example of A would be a site like Kin-Walkers, or WerewolfsWebsite. Both sites were open to a variety of views and members (preventing an echo chamber), and although shifting was a focus of both sites, the physical world was just as important. You had members talking about finding time for the supernatural in-between school and work, or how to navigate adult life as a were, and becoming balanced with one's animal side. Kin-Walkers was just as focused on spirituality and shamanism, so for some that was something that preoccupied them more than shifting physically.

This group style might be undesirable for people who are less interested in the wider supernatural though, or who want a purely rational, scientific explanation for shifting. They also might let in individuals who are a little bit "out there" from time to time, so if you have a low tolerance for what might be termed "fluffy" behavior, that might not be a group for you.

A good example of B would be Werewolf-Shifters amino, or the old I am a Real Werewolf group of Experience Project. Although shifters were there, shifting was considered an undesirable trait, and most dissuaded people from even romanticizing it. Most shifters saw themselves as human, shifting was a rare event (if it ever happened at all) and most lived as humans and emphasized human lives. When shifting was talked about, it was talked about in almost purely scientific terms - you can't be turned or changed, it's likely genetic, it coincides with the end of puberty, you can't decide when to shift, etc. Because of this, many of the conversations in these groups trend towards ordinary life matters instead of strictly focusing on the supernatural.

This group style might be good for those who like a more scientific approach to shifting, though a lot in these groups tend to be older and prone to being a bit skeptical of newer concepts as a result. (Ex. many are skeptical of therians/otherkin, plurals, pop-culture pagans, etc.) If you're not fond of being grilled or queried on these things, that might not be a group for you.

Generally, if you can find a shifting forum or group that isn't a pack, you're onto a great start.

If you do unknowingly end up in an unhealthy, harmful, or toxic group... first, you should try to leave as soon as possible. If it's a discord server or forum, find the best way to leave and do it all at once. Delete all your posts if you can, and get screenshots of any offending behavior if necessary. If you know the times the mods tend to come on, find the time when they're not on, and do what you can to erase your identity. Block all the members if you have to, if you're afraid they might try to contact you or harass you.

If people are pressuring you to do dangerous substances or rituals, or recommending them, bring it up on the forum or tell the mods. In a healthy group this is usually swiftly dealt with, in harmful groups they aren't.

If they have information on you that might be compromising (such as addresses, photos, or other ID) and they intend to use it against you, get their info, block them and report them to the authorities - what they're doing may be illegal at that point. It might also be good to inform anybody that you know and trust, since they might be able to help you through it. If the group plans to contact others with the photos to humiliate you, get to those people first and tell them what's going on - that way if that group tries contacting them, it has no effect.

If you know the group in person, my advice is much the same, but with a stronger focus on contacting the police, since they're more likely to be useful here.

Remember, being a shifter doesn't excuse any harmful or bad behavior. Even if someone proves their claims 100% and seems sincere, that doesn't give them the right to manipulate you or abuse you.

I'd also encourage you to check yourself and see if you're doing fine in a particular group. Even if it isn't objectively harmful, some groups just don't work well for certain people, and that's fine. If it's an otherwise healthy group, it should allow you to leave without much fuss.

In their pity they decided to create a refuge for their kin, and the creatures. This refuge would go on to be called Amahara, and over the years the creatures that once had no place in the world, found themselves with a brand new realm. Over the eons and centuries Amahara has become a lively town, bursting with supernatural residents who had needed a place to call home.

dean kin brain goes brrr did y’all know that when dean says ‘don’t do this cas’ in 15.18 he’s actually explicitly begging cas not to leave him. in 15.09 cas tells dean that if he had just asked him to stay he’d never have left, so when cas tells him he’s going to die to save dean - dean begs him to stay.

dean is not begging cas not to tell him he loves him. he’s saying he needs cas beside him more than he needs his love. he’s saying he loves cas so much that he’d rather have the chance to die beside him and never live without him again, than to know cas feels the same. brrrrrr

Gladly! Since you asked for me to expand, I’m presuming you want an explanation and not prose, if that’s okay!

Ok, so, in this Tommy was basically literally raised by wolves. I mean, supernatural spooky wolves, but wolves nonetheless. These weren’t werewolves, to clarify, or if they were they were so lost into their wolf form they never came out of it, but being around them was what turned Tommy into a werewolf. And also getting nipped a few times.

He spent most of his time in his wolf form, and that’s how he got to know Eryn, who doesn’t actually know he has a human form, he just thought he met a weirdly friendly demon wolf in the forest lol. Wilbur also met him in this form, after he got injured. Wilbur nursed him back to health, and sometime during this he transformed back into his human form leaving a very confused Wilbur with a brother.

So, Tommy's very much unfamiliar with human concepts. He was about eleven-twelve when Wilbur met him, so he’s only had about four years to learn stuff like “basic reading and writing” and “morality” and “not eating people”. Basically, he still acts like a weird mix of a rampaging hellhound, a wolf, and a very enthusiastic golden retriever, both in his human and wolf form. He misses his old pack, but he considers basically the whole server his new pack, and would die for them no hesitation.

Meanwhile, Dream is old vampire nobility who thinks this whole vampire nobility stuff is kinda dumb. I mean, yeah, he’s above everyone else, but that’s because he’s a Good Person Leading The Masses To Salvation instead of being a vampire. So, funnily enough, compared to his kin he’s pretty chill. He thought they were too much and left. He's trying. Kind of. He's much more similar to his canon self than Tommy, but more pretentious and actually trying.

Also, fun fact, the taste of the blood of different species are very distinct. Dream thinks the taste of Tommy's blood is very nice, predictably, but he also enjoys the taste of human blood (such as George and non-transformed Tommy), demons (like Sapnap, Bad, and Tina), and dragons (like Punz).

Court functions in Elysium are strictly kept apart from mortals and surrounded by secrecy, but the Elysium building itself could be a public museum, a gallery, or club. Berghain is an Anarch Elysium. The Louvre is a Camarilla Elysium.

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐄𝐌𝐁𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐄 › the act of transforming a mortal into a vampire. The Embrace requires the vampire to drain their victim and then replace that victim’s blood with a bit of their own.

𝐅𝐀𝐑𝐌𝐄𝐑 (VULGAR) › a mocking term for a vampire who refuses to feed on human blood, instead taking sustenance from animals.

𝐆𝐄𝐍𝐄𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 › the number of “steps” between a vampire and the mythical Caine; how far descended from the First a given vampire is.

𝐆𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐋 › a minion created by giving a bit of vampiric vitae to a mortal without draining them of blood first (which would create a vampire instead).

𝐆𝐎𝐋𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐃𝐀 › a fabled state of vampiric transcendence; the true mastery of the Beast and balance of opposing urges and principles. Rumoured to be a state similar to nirvana, Golconda is greatly touted but rarely achieved.

𝐇𝐀𝐕𝐄𝐍 › a vampire’s “home” or base; where they find sanctuary from the sun.

𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐃 (VULGAR) › a Kindred who feeds upon those who have imbibed alcohol or drugs, so as to vicariously experience the same sensations. Those Kindred who prefer individual drugs have their “poison” prefixed to the term head (e.g., meth head, dope head, smack head). See lush.

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐉𝐘𝐇𝐀𝐃 › the secret, self-destructive war waged between the generations. Elder vampires manipulate their lesser kin, using them as pawns in a terrible game the rules of which defy comprehension.

𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐃𝐑𝐄𝐃 › the Camarilla term for vampires as a whole, or a single vampire. According to rumour, this term came about in the 15th or 16th century, after the Anarch Revolt.

𝐏𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐂𝐄 › a vampire who has claimed a given expanse of domain as their own, generally a city, and supports that claim against all others. The term is gender neutral. In Anarch cities they are sometimes called Barons.

𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐆𝐄𝐍𝐘 › all of a given vampire’s childer collectively.

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐊 (VULGAR) › the hunting ground of choice, including bars, nightclubs, drug dens, and other bacchanalian locales, where mortals go missing all the time.

𝐑𝐀𝐊𝐄 (VULGAR) › a habitual visitor to the Rack, especially in the interests of feeding.

Hello, looks like I decided to go ahead with making a tumblr to promote this server anyhow.

This is a kin server open to all fictionkin and otherkin! It is doubles friendly, so please be at least okay with doubles. Under the cut will be the rules and a link to the form to join the server, as well as sources we currently have categories and roles for (some channels are still being set up as of right now and I will reblog this post letting you know when they are all set up)!

Rules:
