Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy is our team’s debut TTRPG, over three years in the making! The campaign will run from April 10th to May 10th!

Play amateur detectives caught up in things they barely understand, and explore how the lives of your characters unravel as they push themselves to dig deeper into the unknown!

Tense investigations!

Delve into an investigation-focused mystery and horror system that lets players take initiative and use their characters’ unique strengths to find clues and deduce conclusions themselves. A few bad rolls won’t get the party hopelessly stuck, but at the same time Eureka respects their intellect and lets them take charge of solving the mystery!

Character-driven gameplay!

Stats and abilities are based on who your character is as a person. Freeform character creation allows you to build a totally unique little guy, and have a totally unique gameplay experience with him! This is supported by the backbone of the Composure mechanic. Stress, fear, fatigue, and hunger will wear your investigators down as they trudge deeper into the unknown. Food, sleep, and connections with their fellow investigators are the only way to keep them going!

Secrets inside and out! 

Any investigator could be a monster, helping their friends while trying not to reveal their true natures. The party will learn to trust and rely on each other, or explode into a tangled net of drama!

Intense, tactical combat! 

Hits are devastating, and misses are unpredictable–firing a gun will always change the situation somehow, for better or for worse!

Now in Technicolor!

Evocative artwork from talented femme-fatales @chaospyromancy and @qsycomplainsalot and the mysterious @theblackwarden paint a gorgeously-realized portrait of a world with shadows lurking in every corner.

Elegantly designed and thoroughly playtested, Eureka represents the culmination of three years of near-daily work from our team, as well as a lot of our own money. As inspired by @claramurphyqueenoffandoms's recent return, the awesome not-quite-human AU ideas by @acaplaya-musings and Queen in 5 Minutes coming on shuffle on my walk home, I am once again thinking about what I'm gonna do with my Vocalization series.

As none of you probably know, my beloved VoicePlay fanfic called Vocalization started off on Wattpad in 2020 and, looking back at it now, is maybe the purest mirror of my mindset back then that I have ever seen. It's only fitting that Evelynn, my OC for the fic, eventually became my namesake. If you've been a VoicePlay fan for a bit longer, you'll know that, in the summer 2020, Earl left the group, and this broke my heart and set off the end of that phase of my VP-related creations. Eventually, even though VoicePlay was still going through member changes, I got back into Vocalization, and I decided to revamp the fic on AO3 because I myself had changed as a person and the fic didn't suit my tastes anymore.

Now, once again years later, I feel like I've become a completely different person from who I was back when Vocalization started, but Evelynn/Evie has stuck with me, and I feel like it's only fair to bring the fic full circle too and get back into it... Only I want to do it a little differently this time. The whole idea of "Oh it's VoicePlay but the Kidnapped series actually happened and now they have a girl with them" just doesn't work out for me anymore.

So, what I think I wanna do is I wanna bring my supernatural AU into the main fic. Not the story of the AU necessarily, but just some aspects like the powers to spice things up a little and create an actual plot. That probably means revamping or tweaking some of the powers, but I think it could work! Huge thanks to @acaplaya-musings for opening my eyes to the possibility of how that could work - don't worry, I'm not gonna steal your ideas. I'm gonna try to stay away from them as far as possible, but my Geoff is still gonna be a demon because I my thought process was very similar to yours when I created my supernatural AU ^^"

Anyways, OPLA still has me deep in its clutches and I wouldn’t have it any other way, but once I get back into my VoicePlay phase, this is probably what you're gonna have to deal with :)

Witch Poll

Scenario

You have been friends with a witch in your college art program for long enough to know all about her dark and sinister powers.

Near the end of the semester, she comes to you distraught. For reasons that are not particularly important to the purpose of this post, she will not be able to turn in a life-sized sculpture that is part of her final grade, and there’s only one solution.

She needs a volunteer to cast a terrible curse upon and turn them to stone. She promises it’s just for a few days, but that’s not something that you can really be sure of. The volunteer may be aware of their surroundings, or not, depending on the witch’s preference, but whoever it is is going to be totally helpless, and it’s going to be an incredibly unpleasant experience no matter what. There’s not exactly health benefits to being turned to stone, even for just a few days while the exhibits are displayed and graded.

A non-voluntary subject would probably not hold just the right pose, and would absolutely panic as soon as they recoverd, if they were ever released from the curse..

I only watched the first four episodes of season four and have only the vaguest notion of what happens in the rest of it. And I've been told that I misread what was going on and that that's not where the plot was going. But.

I cannot get over the wasted potential of not having Vecna's Curse target, specifically, people who feel guilt over being responsible for another person's death. (Even though they're not, actually, responsible.)

Like. Apparently what was going on with Chrissy was an eating disorder. I misread the coding on that hard in the early episodes, and thought that she'd recently been to Chicago to see Jane. And if she had...apparently Jason was also super religious? If Chrissy had had an abortion, because they'd been having sex, then that makes a whole thematic reinforcement to his hypocrisy and whatever half-baked point the show sort of made gestures at making about the Satanic Panic.

Then there's Fred and his friend. Whatsisface in Pennhurst, the older Creel, and the baby in the house he ordered the bombing on. Max and Billy. Nancy and Barb. (Hell, Steve and Barb if you really want to play to your audience.) You could even use that to tie in the adults' storyline - we haven't heard about Hopper's guilt over Sara in a minute!

And all of that would dovetail nicely into motive. Because apparently "Vecna" is, in fact, Henry Creel, is in fact Experiment 001? Who [something something something] psychic powers [something something] horrific child abuse [something something something] massacre at the Hawkins lab [something something] Always Chaotic Axe-Crazy?

But it would make so much sense for a child who'd been ripped from his family, survived awful mistreatment in the name of the greater good, and been witness to the deaths of other kids just like him due to the actions of people who didn't seem to care, who didn't seem to see it as their fault, to be lashing out at anybody he perceived to be like those people.

It would have made sense. It would have been a reason. It would have drawn a throughline from the Big Bad's motivation through to Our Heroes and their actions. It would have given them so much room to work with consequences of the earlier seasons coming back to bite Our Heroes, and could have gone in some really good directions about exploring survivor's guilt and whether these characters really were responsible for any of the deaths they take as their responsibility. And also about institutional hurt and how sometimes, people who have no other option and no way to reach the people who actually hurt them will just aim their pain at anyone in reach, anyone who looks enough like the person who hurt them if you squint and hold your tongue just right, and how, to make actual change against the systems that hurt people, we all need to keep in mind who the real enemy is. It could have been so good.
