I stumbled upon her content such a long time ago, and they're both so precious and funny as heck. Please support them if you aren't already following her accounts.
"there is no ethical consumption under capitalism" "you can criticize capitalism while participating in it" are both true and valid statements. but if you care about anti capitalism, your hands aren't wiped clean. acknowledging the problem is only the first step
yes, you can make money to survive & buy things to have fun. you can get things that aren't necessary to treat yourself. you can work your way up the corporate ladder.
some people resign themselves to their fate, as though capitalism is the way that things must be forever. but there's still questions you should ask yourself before deciding to drop all attempts at working against the system:
do you support/promote the culture of excessive buying?
how do you treat poor or otherwise disadvantaged people?
do you support local libraries, local businesses (if you can afford to), or other local organizations?
do you vote in favor of social services and education?
do you vote at all?
do you buy things in quantity over quality(lifespan) when you have the money to do either?
not everyone is an activist, but everyone has the power to vote with their money and with their ballot. telling yourself that there's no ethical consumption isn't a get out of jail free card. you don't have to be perfect or have to shop outside of your means or really go out of your way at all to take actions against capitalism. the main thing is that you care about people, your community, the environment, etc enough to care about your behaviors. that's all we can ask of anyone. to care

For those who missed it, this is a delightful, chill event where we get a group of folks together and visit bookstores. In between stores, we eat chocolate!
veeeeery minimal productivity today. i got out of bed on time today and went to work in the morning! i had a class scheduled for today, but i didn't attend the lecture because i went to a campus event. though, i plan to watch the lecture recording before my class tomorrow so i can get caught up! i skimmed through the assignment, and i am already quite familiar with the main topic, so i am not expecting too much difficulty. after the campus event, i went to the library to check out the book Traicionada, which is the Spanish version of the novel Betrayal by Danielle Steel. I am excited to read this so that I can improve my reading comprehension in Spanish! I read a little bit of it earlier when I went to a local café to eat some ice cream. When I got home, I did a bit more reading, and took an unplanned nap. overall, i mostly just had a me day and allowed myself to rest.
in this world of dropshipping and unsafe working conditions, support people who care for their workers and community, support the handmade, support creators themselves
🐝 Yesterday's chicken teriyaki with white rice 😋 I love chicken teriyaki! It's one of my favorites 😍 we got take out from a local small business in our town. Support local businesses 💜
Cake pops are made from leftover cake pieces. They're scraps, and are one of the many things you do to prevent food waste -this is something people were doing before Starbucks commodified it, so this isn't a new idea, but for people who didn't know or who haven't found alternatives yet (and hopefully not because they don't care), OP gave a quick mug cake recipe (also I've made them before and they're good -just make sure to pick a neutral oil when making them if you do this with oil instead of butter because there are easier recipes out there, and adjust the recipe to your food sensitivities/etc of course, like I would use plant-based milks, butter and chocolate chips.)
I'm not sure if the person originally posting the recipe meant to be insensitive, but I understand the sentiment because if you're still going to Starbucks because they make 'this' that you love without making an effort to find an alternative, that's awful. Keep finding alternatives -they exist, I promise. And support local businesses as much as possible. Don't stop boycotting.
From my Instagram! There's a new gay bookshop in town called Gayberystwyth books and I got this neat little history book there. Definitely check it out if you're in and around Aber!
Great haul this year for Free RPG Day 2023! Excited to learn 'Heckin' Good Doggos' and check out the indie games in this year's Level 1 book.
Also got to learn to play 'Monster of the Week' and demo some board games!
Rock Bottom Books is a local comic shop my family and I have enjoyed for years. It's a little cramped inside, but they have tons and tons of books and comics among other assorted nerdy goodies. (Photo by D.D. )
