Knowing how bad your anxiety can get, Eddie has created codes for you to send in order for him to know when it's starting to worsen.

Three taps on his wrist mean you need fresh air. He's quick to abandon the conversation in the loud noisy bar and to dismiss his bandmates who insist that he stay for the after-show drinks, pulling you gently by your hand and bringing you outside. It's freezing, you can see your breath coming out in white puffs of air. Eddie instantly sheds his leather jacket, placing it over your shoulders whilst wrapping his arms around your neck.

The loud music from the bar fades into the background as you focus on your breathing, alongside Eddie's right in your ear, your heartbeat slowing down as your anxiety settles.

Wrapping your pinkie around his is a sign that you want to get out of this current conversation and away from whoever is talking to you. When Eddie feels your pinky finger lace around his, he blurts out an excuse to whoever you two are speaking to and brings you to another place. He then cradles your face gently and asks if you need anything else: water, to sit down, to count the trees or cars passing by.

But sometimes, when the trigger is unexpected, there isn't time for signs like these. For you to reach over to Eddie and get his attention.

It's a loud house party. It's Steve's birthday and you'd be damned if you missed your best friend's birthday party just because you're feeling a little more anxious than usual today. Steve, being the social butterfly he is, greets you and Eddie warmly by the door before accepting your gifts gracefully and then turning to greet another group of people already walking through the door.

You recognize some of the faces, sure - Robin and Nancy are playing beer pong, Jonathan is pouring himself some fruit punch, Eddie is holding your hand. But there's a lot more faces you don't recognize.

"Hey, I'm going to get a drink. Do you want any?" Eddie questions, pointing to the kitchen counter. You shake your head sideways.

"No, I'm okay. I think I need to sit down though, these heels are killing me." you groan as he laughs, patting your head affectionately.

"Alright, princess. Why don't you sit down on that sofa and I'll be back in a minute?"

"Okay."

You're sitting down on the sofa for no less than three seconds when a couple crashes down onto the empty spot next to you, making out messily as the drink in the girl's hand splashes down your front. The sticky red substance has stained your blouse and you sigh angrily, standing up and looking for Eddie. Except he's no longer there by the kitchen counter.

Before you know it, the house is spinning, the music seems infinitely louder as the walls start closing in. You're not even sure if you're walking in a straight line as you stumble through the house, desperate to find an exit or a familiar face, but nothing. Every hallway is packed with people you don't know dancing right against each other, the bright flashing lights blind you, and you still can't see Eddie anywhere.

You manage to stumble into an empty bathroom and slam the door shut behind you, chest heaving and bile rising to your throat. You feel sick, your palms are sweating and your head hurts. It feels as if someone is playing a never ending loop of a high pitch frequency, the noise jarring and sharp in your ears. Your vision's blurred through your tears as you sink to your knees, legs up against your chest and you're not sure how much time has passed when the door opens again and someone's hands cradle your face.

"Princess, please look at me-"

Eddie's voice sounds muffled, like he's speaking under water. You barely manage to lift your heavy head to look at him.

"That's my good girl. Can you- can you focus on me?"

You're staring at him but your eyes are still glazed over, your breaths still heavy. It makes Eddie's eyes widen in alarm as he locks the door behind him and sits down right across from you, mind racing with thoughts on how to calm you down.

"She's got a smile that it seems to me..." he begins to softly sing under his breath, moving closer towards you.

Your shaking starts to slow, your breaths evening out as he continues to sing, his cool metal rings against your cheek as he cradles your face.

"Reminds me of childhood memories... where everything was as fresh as the bright blue sky."

His voice is cutting through the loud ringing in your head, your vision clearing bit by bit as you try your best to focus in on his singing.

"Now and then when I see her face... she takes me away to that special place."

You're left to blink at your boyfriend's concerned but sweet gaze as a small smile creeps onto his face.

"And if I stare too long, I'd probably break down and cry."

He pauses, noticing that you seem to be more calm now.

"You with me, princess?" he asks and you carefully nod.

"Yeah. Uh, sorry about that."

"I've told you a million times, angel - you never have to apologize about your anxiety attacks."

He pulls you into a hug, your face right against his chest as he gently runs a hand down your back. It's a bit of an uncomfortable position to be in in this crammed bathroom, with Eddie's back against the door and you awkwardly sitting on his lap.

But his slow and gentle heartbeat is providing you all the comfort you need.

"That was... pretty impressive. How you sang our favorite song to pull me back to reality." you mumble. His chest reverbates with a chuckle.

"Really?"

"Yeah. You're my little rockstar."

You expect him to gasp dramatically or pout like he's always done the previous times you've called him that - for him to cross his arms haughtily and insist that he's "a big boy rockstar" instead. But this time, he just nods, continuning to stroke your back.

"You're not gonna complain?" you ask, surprised.

"Nah. If being your little rockstar helps me help you then... I guess I'm your little rockstar."

He has a dopey grin on his face and you can't help but press a chaste kiss on his lips, tasting the whiskey on his tongue. He moans into it, before a new thought pops into his mind and he quickly adds on another comment.

"BUT one rule about that."

You raise your eyebrows.

"Yeah?"

"No calling me that in front of the kids. If Mike or god forbid, Dustin, gets their hands on that nickname... I'll never hear the end of it."

And Eddie was right - once you accidentally let it slip a month later, the boys refused to call Eddie by his real name for two weeks straight.

Welcome to the Slumber Party’s monthly challenge for July 2023! This month’s challenge has a theme: Christmas in July.

Welcome to Christmas in July! This month, we’re challenging you to bring the heat to classic tropes and themes associated with the holidays and winter season. Don’t be mistaken, you don’t have to create a festive piece, you just have to use a typically festive element in your submission.

For this challenge, we will be accepting both written and visual pieces such as moodboards and edits.

Before we get started, we will go over the rules!

This challenge is open to all fandoms and characters but we ask that you do not include elements such as underage or bestiality.

Please don’t forget to add warnings to your works appropriately.

For written pieces, there are no word count limits, but we do ask that you add a “read more” beyond 500 words.

We hope that creators can create an inclusive work, but ask where that you tag where applicable character attributes coded into their submissions. ie, f!reader, poc!, etc.

We ask that the submissions not be a part of any existing series or works and be able to read as stand alone.

No more than 3 submissions per each type please (you may submit 3 written pieces and three moodboards). If you choose to submit a moodboard/visual submission with a drabble or fic attached, this will count towards both limits.

How does is work?

There is no sign up required.

There are no limits on how many people can use each prompt. You may use more than one in your work.

You do not need to be on our writer’s list to join, but if you would like to be added in our updated (currently in progress) list, we would be more than happy to include you! Send a dm to either of the admins listed in the bio.

Sign up will remain open throughout the challenge, bearing in mind that the due date will remain the same regardless.

Quilt Block Mania - January is Party

Welcome to my stop on the Quilt Block Mania Blog Hop. Each of the designers participating in the hop are sharing a block pattern inspired by this month’s theme, which is Party!

This is my fourth year participating in QBM, and I hope you’ve enjoyed my free block pattern each month! If you’ve missed any, the patterns for previous months are available in my shop.

With Party as the theme, my thoughts immediately went to New Years. It’s not that I party much, but my dh and I do participate in my daughter’s New Year’s Eve celebrations. She and her friends gather from all around for a weekend of fun—playing video games and board games, watching movies, exchanging gifts, and catching up. This used to happen at our house and so we’ve had the privilege of watching them all grow up over the years.

Now the party has moved to a home my daughter is renting, so there’s no real need for us to attend except that we are now a much loved part of the proceedings. This year we visited for a few hours, ate dinner, exchanged some gifts and toasted the new year with some champagne. It was soon time for us to return home and to leave the merry making to the kids (they continued chatting and joking and playing video games.)

I call my block Happy New Year. It uses raw edge fusible applique techniques. I hope you’ll make my block and tag me on social media @inquiringquilter!

As we prepare for the months ahead, we wanted to share a timeline of important dates as well as give a gift commemorating Dust Warriors who are “old school” enough to have been a part of the community before the redesigned site was revealed. We also have an invitation from the Dragon Clan!

It’s an important moment for our community and we want to thank you for being on this journey with us.

In a few weeks we’ll be releasing our redesign and thus mark another stage in our evolution. We’ve grown so much as a community and this next step is one more on our journey together.

I have shared the good news with my clan that we have found other non-Dust infected beings! While we were planning on visiting your Valley to meet you, the density of Dust there made us reconsider and we believe it would be best to invite you to visit us on neutral territory instead. 

This time of year is the most special for our clan as our mother dragon is about to lay eggs! 

The Dust has taken much from us as well and we find ourselves in need of companions for these new dragons. Warriors who will help us raise them and train them. If the bonds between you and the egg you chose are strong, the dragon will have you as a battle companion for life!

We’ve found an isle free of Dust that will be perfect for meeting. It is filled with the food, water, and shelter we’ll need for dragon training and to nurture the eggs that will be laid.
