From the pages of RetCon magazine, it’s The Back-Up Team parts 1 and 2! The exclusive unofficial More than Meets the Eye Side Story!

A rambling explanation: This is, as stated, an unofficial side story for MTMTE published in two parts as back-up strips for the magazines made for the unofficial Swedish convention RetCon. Part 1 was published for the third RetCon in 2019 and part 2 was for the fourth one in 2022. (Delayed due to COVID and all that.)

These were made ostensibly as advertisments for the Swedish hardcover editions of MTMTE. Part 2 was given the cover space for the 2022 magazine (UPDATE: The cover is also an homage to the cover of Justice League International #8 from 1987.) and is by the same artist as the story itself. Also, there is no cover B, that was just a gag, as far as I can tell.

How they both started so meek and fearful of their family but through the camaraderie of their crew, the bonds they made, they realized they didn’t need to prove themselves to anyone but themselves and took steps to do that; to be better; to do better.

Thinking about how their best friend, who knew their (the Ferins) worths, knew that they (the Ferins) were good, we’re skillful, we’re everything they needed to be despite their origins.

TRANSFORMERS NextGen

Today I'm gonna introduce you to some more good ol' sketcheZ of mine. ;)

I am reorganizing my foldiers in order to finish artwork, and I found these precious little first versions, haha.

I named them NextGen, because I had some ideas back then, how some of our favourite bot's children would look like in human version. :)

You can find here Drift's sons and daughter Slipstream, Jetstorm (holy hell I LOVED them in Transformers Robots in Disguise. Adorable!!!) and of course Akiko who is an OC; Crossandra (OC) and Sureshot who are Crosshairs' kids, they were the Targetmaster Family; Ratchet's son Medix - and some of the kids of course fall in love with each other (Medix/Akiko; Jetstorm/Crossandra), because I wanted to see how would different parents would react in different situations, haha XD

There were a scene where Crosshairs grumping about 'that samurai kid" to her daughter meanwhile Crossandra cleanses her weapon, sitting on her bed. (I will add it in the future of you would like to see..) I loved these scenes, because they were fresh and New that time, and of course I wanted to share them like this before I do anything changes, then you'll see how much my style changed since then. :)

The adoptive daughter of two woman who bonded over their mutual experience and understanding with foraging and nature, the entire family lived a tight knit but difficult life as manual class. More specifically, Serah’s a cold construct meant to work the agricultural fields of California. The family grew to one more adoptive sister: Athaliah Feng. Serah was five years old at the time.

She was a sweet girl who asked a lot of questions, questions like why don’t the fields have plants they forage. Why can’t people leave the fields and forage, hunt, and make lives for themselves. Such questions, along with her problems with social cues, tearful outbursts, and struggles with keeping track of time played part in her place as a social outcast.

So, she found a tight bond and friendship in Athaliah, who’s just as socially and mentally out of place among her new young peers. For Serah, Athaliah (despite being nonverbal) always stood up against anyone who physically and verbally threatened the young girl. This occasionally included real abusive inspectors. Moreover, Athaliah helped Serah play catch up whenever the latter got too slow harvesting at corporate standards. Somehow, the two were always on the same wavelength. Where both have a love of literature and writing, Serah loves photography.

Aside from Athaliah, Serah was most close with one of her moms who not only taught her how to hunt and forage, but taught her the sling and gave her a family heirloom book that showed pages of different plants to forage, trapping techniques, but most importantly, the songs and memories written generations as far back to right before the Quintesson War. Her other mother, more concerned with the kids not “being careful” sneaked in a class forbidden text or two.

However, there were some grievances that came with being a CC. That would come in the form of the missionaries would come to her neighborhood every year, preaching about how Cold Constructs are a symptom/disease of a sinful, broken world. That and the occasional mention that Cold Constructs have no souls. That played a major part in her self-loathing as a Cold Construct, and her initial intention to work hard enough to be class exempt. Because maybe, just maybe that’ll show God who she is and what she can do, and then she could earn her own eternal soul like the Little Mermaid.

Life turned sour when one of the missionaries recognized Athaliah as one of her friend’s missing daughter. The police arrived and yanked Athaliah from her life, and gave herself and her mothers a beating for “poor cooperation.” Serah was thirteen years old. A few months later, when Serah forgot to hide her art pieces during a surprise inspection, her more open mother sacrificed her life for her daughter. She survived, but her mind didn’t from the shadowplay.

Despite the love of known neighbors, she was mostly mentally alone, with a now depressed, heartbroken mother constantly tending to a spouse who lost her mind. So, Serah tried to find strength to recover from this trauma. Maybe, she’ll find a way to use her foraging skills to become class exempt. Because if she became class exempt, she could bring the books forbidden to class 5 to kids like her. Maybe, she could become a doctor to help the community, especially as her mother also helped watch over the children, and those who developed deformities and ailments from the dangerous equipment, and constant rain of pesticides and herbicides.

Hope seemed to arrive in a regular cop’s pupil. The guy was college aged while she was still a preteen. I think the guy’s either Sam Witwicky or Shane Dyson, and he’s quite the Gaston. But he seemed strangely nice to her, even when she messed up on not meeting corporate standards. Said student even used his own money to “buy her freedom.” Yet the guy purposefully used his presence to keep fellow workers from her. It was...off putting, but she felt not to tell a cop about this.

For a few more years, she adjusted to life beyond being class five. She absorbed every reading material she could at a library she’d sneak to. She’d learn about the internet and get so nervous but curious to contact the people interacting on the web. The guy just slithered his way into earning her trust. The red flags did show, but Serah figured this will all be worth it in the long run. And this came with telling the guy about one of the foraging sites. She’s heard and read about the stupidly high budget cops get, and knows the guy’s friend’s with one of the land’s CEO’s kids. So, maybe he could work his magic to get the higher ups to give the farmers more rights, and to preserve land to allow for foraging and hunting.

He betrayed that trust, and used this knowledge to convince the higher up to buy and use that land for more agriculture use. I think a good number of farmers use that land to get food. So, there’s a riot that’s similar to the Messantine riot. Serah, herself, was righteously angry. In the skirmish where the guy tried to steal the her family heirloom book, she ends up using one of the farming equipment to injure him. She’s on the run, and she’s seventeen year old.

Now, wanted posters litter the wall, calling Serah a dangerous, duplicitous criminal. She hides as well as she can, especially while homeless. She didn’t have a constant companion to walk alongside until she stumbles across Wardina now codenamed Windcharger. Both of whom help each other against the pursuing bounty hunters.

They help each other when it comes to foraging for food, dumpster diving, or stealing medicine, such as inhalers. They faced the natural elements a few times, and even encounter different people who betray or befriend them. But their constant was the apparently never dying pursuit of Lockdown and her men. It’s because of Lockdown they couldn’t visit and stay with Wardina’s family. So, they had to head to Mexico.

But it’s from their trek to Mexico do they hear wind of the Autobots, especially when the encounter some of them around Texas. They haven’t heard much about the war between the Autobots and Decepticons, but these people seem like they’d be helpful. They’d get a constant roof over their head, certain protection, and maybe a sense that they’re helping people.

What else is there for Serah to do?
