happy new year!! I had a horrible nightmare that (check the tags before proceeding please) I had to get a surgery to release some kind of fluid buildup in my brain and the surgery involved drilling a hole into my skull and I didn't find out they weren't intending to put me under until I was on the operating table with the nurse hovering over me with a GIANT drill

she reassured me they gave me local anesthesia but i flailed and begged to go to sleep and tried to shove the drill away while the nurse basically forced me into position, and I kept tapping my skull trying to confirm that the local even did anything because I couldn't remember them administering it. before I knew it they were drilling into the side of my head and it wasn't painful, so I guess the stuff worked, but I could hear it and feel it the way you feel what the dentist is doing even when there's novocaine. eventually i stopped yelling and fell silent because the drill was so loud and what can you even do at that point.

when they were done they cheerfully showed me an x ray of the hole they made, which went ALL the way back to my spinal cord and brain stem and stopped just a millimeter short of touching them, and they acted like this was normal and they hadn't just gone within a hair's breadth of killing me, and then they gave me a flimsy paper towel and told me I'd just need to hold it over the fresh hole in my head for awhile until it healed.

bizarre and upsetting New Year's Day dreams are practically a tradition for me at this point but, genuinely, what the Fuck was that.

just found out that some ppl with hypermobility spectrum disorder and some kinds of EDS can carry the same kind of genetic mutations as redheads for metabolizing anesthesia (especially localized anesthesia) … my life makes sense now

#doctors always just being like ‘is this anesthesia working?? do you feel something’ and me being like ‘eh kinda’ #and then them taking an extra 10 minutes to figure out how to put me under #and then also me waking up almost immediately after surgery is over #i have had surgery twice and every single time i wake up during the transition process from end of surgery to beginning of aftercare #my ovarian cyst i woke up literally in the hallway on my hospital bed as they were getting ready to move me into a hospital room #and my wisdom teeth the tech was literally putting away the surgery equipment #and both times i was fully conscious and not at all loopy #like i was asking my nurse about the biopsy the minute i woke up from getting my wisdom teeth out #anyways wild how that works #hsd #hypermobile spectrum disorder #eds #elhers danlos syndrome #disabled

(keyword almost. theyr still visible atp) #the way the scars r shaped is interesting bc theyre like a U shape. but bc of that when i inevitably build my pectoral muscles #the scars should blend into the shadow caused by thr muscle. i also dont have a Completrly flat chest bc im fat:0 #tbh my surgeon did rlly well . i have a lot of problems with him bc hes kind of a dick but from like. idk an artistic standpoint hes good #but the doctor standpoint hes Uhm. well i lost a nipple and had severe infection due to denied antibiotics and lack of aftercare #BUT. the lost nipple isnt visible and it looks normal now somehow AND. i didn't die from the infection so. I mean #i just had to spend christmas with a fever of 103 LMAO #HONESTLY THO i would do it again EVEN if i knew i would go thru hell bc this surgery fuckn saved my life holy shit #i didnt realize just how much i dissociated from my own body bc of dysphoria. now i feel more in touch with it and happy!:) #also now i can Eventually get that chest tattoo i wanted for like 7 years lmao #erm yippee:)

Day 4 post op wisdom: bring someone you trust for your aftercare or pay good $$$$ otherwise you’ll regret it. The person who came with me just really hasn’t been competent. I don’t think they realized just what lipo + surgeries entail in 2024.

It’s a lot. The garment or faja you wear is a lifesaver even though it’s a nuisance. With it you look bulky but it keeps everything nice and tight. Without it you feel like something is missing. I’ve actually gotten use to it. Can’t imagine myself without it though I can do without the foam.

I do recommend buying seamless tank tops in one size up to prevent creasing on your skin. I have creasing but I make due. Can’t my flight to leave one day earlier. Sure I technically miss out on a night of my airbnb but I had to leave at 10 am anyway. Would rather spend that 10 am in my own bed rather than scrambling to get out.
