WIP Wednesday

gonna start doing these now, I guess lol. enjoy a lil snippet from Chapter 1 of my 10,000-years-before-BotW GanLink fic.

Link scrambled through the entry hall and ran up the stairs back to his den. He pushed aside the heavy leather flap of his door and froze in the kitchen, paralyzed with indecision. The stew. Take care of the stew first.

He grabbed the pot between woven pads of longleaf and rushed through his door and across the balcony. “Belim!” he yelled, still several yards from his best friend’s den. “Belim, I have stew!” He skidded to a stop in front of the door, balancing his arms to avoid spilling the contents of the pot with the force of his sudden halt. The leather door lifted at the edge, revealing a tan face, blond hair, and brown eyes, all attached to a man just a bit taller than Link, and far more muscled. “Stew?” Belim said flatly. “What.” Link shoved the pot forward. “I can’t eat it,” he said breathlessly. “I… have other plans.” Belim raised an eyebrow. “You never have plans. As evidenced by the stew you’ve made.” “Well, I do now,” Link huffed. “Take it.” “What plans?” Link rolled his eyes. “If you don’t want it, I’ll just take it to Hami—” “I’ll take it if you tell me what plans.” Link let out a rough growl of frustration, fully aware that his ears were still aflame with embarrassment. “I’ve been invited to dinner,” he hedged. “With who?” Belim asked, leaning against the wall. “A… a Gerudo.” “Link.” Link grimaced. “Hm?” “You’re gay, Link.” “I’m well aware of that, thank you.” “Did she bribe you or something?” Belim asked, eyes alight with amusement. Link sighed, throwing his head back to stare at the stormy clouds above. A raindrop hit him square between the eyes. “He did not have to bribe me,” Link said, dropping his head again to glare at Belim. “He?” Belim echoed blankly. “But there’s not—oh. You fucking gold digger.” “I said he didn’t bribe me!” Link hissed. “Take the stew!”

Tabitha was a couple of hours into her shift at the cafe when she spotted a familiar face. She had gotten to know Cal a bit from the times he had been in the cafe, and their paths had crossed in different places a few times since then. “I got this one,” she told one of her servers before she headed over to his table. “Hey, what can I get for you today, Cal?” Tabitha asked, a smile on her facial features. “Are you having a nice day so far?” She had time for some small talk and whatnot. The cafe wasn’t too busy, which meant for a nice little break.

I still don't quite have the fortitude to play the Charr level 10 story (key notwithstanding), given how even the tutorial had Rytlock gloating about reminding Barradin's tortured ghost of, uh, the horrors inflicted on his people by the Charr that Barradin himself lived through—

—before the conquest drove his king mad and Barradin got killed by him / transformed into a vengeful ghost who is both eternally frozen in time and functionally immortal.

(Fun fact: Barradin was actually the next in line in the traditional Ascalonian succession, not Adelbern, who was more of an Eärnil-type noble war hero and given the crown by popular acclaim. Barradin was totally chill about this, firmly supported Adelbern as king despite grumbling from some snobbish nobles, and seems content with the engagement of his daughter Althea to Adelbern's heir, Prince Rurik.

Then the Charr invaded, in the course of which they captured Althea and burned her alive among many other things, and Rurik got killed trying to lead Ascalonian refugees to Kryta before being turned into an undead horror by the former grand vizier of Orr and current lich lord. Said lich had unleashed the magic that wiped out the Orrians (including himself, in a sense) in response to ... the Charr's attempted conquest of Orr. IT'S A LOT but, anyway, I've always felt really bad for the Barradins, and sometimes wonder if things might have gone differently if Barradin actually had become king instead of Adelbern, who seems to have been competent and well-liked before the Searing, but couldn't hold it together after.

I'm not invested enough to write a GW1 AU that nobody would read, lol, just ... idly curious, I guess.)

*deep breath* howEVER, I did use my spare character slot to make my first sylvari character. I didn't care for them aesthetically for a long time, but after warming up to their look and also wanting the achievement points for the racial storylines and cultural armor, and enjoying playing stories I haven't seen before, I decided to try one! I was thinking it might be fun to follow the counter-cultural trend with my punk Charr activist and have my sylvari be an aggressive, temperamental explorer type, so I made her a (fire-oriented) elementalist with the red-gold "hair" and eyes option. Cycle of Noon, etc.

I just finished the level 10 storyline (Shield of the Moon variant) and a) it was actually fun and not frustrating, which was very nice! Also, holy shit, Caithe is 100x more hardcore in the sylvari personal story than she seems when you play as human and only meet her as Logan's elegant, sensible (wrt the dragons), but somewhat naive ex-guildmate. But as a sylvari, she's both super impressive and also a mess, which was really fun after nearly always playing humans.

Video game I saw in a dream. It was in this low poly style like an older video game. You play as this character I think was meant to be a lamb, or maybe a weird mix of a lamb a mouse and a rabbit, (while not really looking like any of those things) and you’re running away from a wolf. Your objective is to last as long as possible before the wolf catches and eats you.

The house you’re running in is endless and bizarrely put together like most building interiors in dreams are (like the infinite toilet dream dimension on Reddit lol) the layout of the house is pretty detailed, you can stop and hide in places like closets or bins while the wolf looks for you, you can go up and down stairs and into rooms etc.

You never actually know where the wolf is or how close it is to you until it appears in your line of sight, it makes no noise and the game gives you no way of knowing where it is, and it’s pretty unpredictable it doesnt move at a consistent pace. When the wolf catches you there’s an animation showing it eating your character
