ANDREW GARFIELD 's kisses...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The way he holds the face of the contemplated, sorry I mean, actresses... is too surreal for me. And this sequence of "Boy A" makes me have several types of thoughts that... 🥵 Better not to confess here. Anyway, actresses doing some of things i'd like to do with him. 🔥🔥🔥
With Alexandra Shipp in "Tick, Tick... BOOM!" (2021)
With Adelaide Clemens in "Under The Banner Of Heaven" (2022)

About three minutes ago, Susan Wilson reportedly heard someone scream "Let me have my panic attack in peace!"

I Won't Say (I'm in Love)
Written By: Alan Menken & David Zippel
Artist: Susan Egan with Roz Ryan, Cheryl Freeman, Lillias White, Vanéese Y. Thomas & LaChanze for Hercules
Released: 1997
From the 1997 Disney movie Hercules, “I Won’t Say (I’m In Love)” is the movie’s featured love ballad. After a romantic date with Hercules, Meg expresses her conflicting emotions through song (with some back up from the Muses). Hurt before and technically working for Herc’s arch nemesis, this song demonstrates Meg’s reluctance to get into another relationship that (in her mind) can only end badly.
[MEG] If there's a prize for rotten judgment I guess I've already won that No man is worth the aggravation That's ancient history, been there, done that [MUSES, MEG] Who d'you think you're kiddin'? He's the earth and heaven to you Try to keep it hidden Honey, we can see right through you (Oh no) Girl, you can't conceal it We know how you feel and who you're thinkin' of [MEG] Oh No chance, no way I won't say it, no, no [MUSES] You swoon, you sigh Why deny it? Uh-oh [MEG] It's too cliché I won't say I'm in love [MUSES] Shoo-do, shoo-do, ooh [MEG, with MUSES] I thought my heart had learned its lesson It feels so good when you start out My head is screaming, "Get a grip, girl" "Unless you're dyin' to cry your heart out" Oh [MUSES, MEG] You keep on denying Who you are and how you're feeling Baby, we're not buying Hon, we saw you hit the ceiling (Oh no) Face it like a grown-up When ya gonna own up That you got, got, got it bad? [MEG] Whoa No chance, no way I won't say it, no, no [MUSES] Give up, give in Check the grin, you're in love [MEG] This scene won't play I won't say I'm in love [MUSES] You're doin' flips Read our lips, you're in love [MEG, MUSES] You're way off base (Shoo-do, shoo-do) I won't say it (She won't say it, no) Get off my case (Sha-da, sha-da) I won't say it [MUSES] Girl, don't be proud It's okay, you're in love [MEG] Oh At least, out loud I won't say I'm in love [MUSES] Shoo-do, shoo-do, shoo-do, shoo-do Sha-la-la-la-la-la, ah

God Only Knows
Written By: Brian Wilson & Tony Asher
Artist: The Beach Boys
Released: 1966
“God Only Knows” is a song by American rock band The Beach Boys. It is the eighth track on the group’s 11th studio album, Pet Sounds, and one of their most widely recognized songs. “God Only Knows” was composed and produced by Brian Wilson. Tony Asher helped Brian with the lyrics. Carl Wilson sang lead, and Bruce Johnston sang harmony vocals with Brian in the outro. The song broke new ground in many ways. It was one of the first commercial songs to use the word ‘God’ in its title. As producer, Brian Wilson used many unorthodox instruments, including the harpsichord and French horns that are heard in the song’s famous introduction. Although The Beatles engaged in a friendly rivalry with the Beach Boys based on mutual respect, Paul McCartney called this song the best song ever written.
[Verse 1: Carl Wilson] I may not always love you But long as there are stars above you You never need to doubt it I'll make you so sure about it [Refrain: Carl Wilson] God only knows what I'd be without you [Verse 2: Carl Wilson] If you should ever leave me Well, life would still go on, believe me The world could show nothing to me So what good would living do me? [Refrain: Carl Wilson] God only knows what I'd be without you [Interlude: Carl Wilson, Brian Wilson, and Bruce Johnston] Ooh, ooh Do, do, do, do, do, do, do Bow, buh-bow, buh-bow, buh-bow (Do, do, do, do) Buh-bow, buh-bow, buh-bow (Do, do, do, do, do, do) Buh-bow, buh-bow, buh-bow, buh-bow (Do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do) [Refrain: Carl Wilson] God only knows what I'd be without you [Verse 3: Carl Wilson] If you should ever leave me Well, life would still go on, believe me The world could show nothing to me So what good would living do me? [Chorus: Carl Wilson] God only knows what I'd be without you [Outro: Carl Wilson with Brian Wilson and Bruce Johnston] God only knows what I'd be without you God only knows what I'd be without you God only knows what I'd be without you (What I'd be) God only knows what I'd be without you (God only knows) God only knows what I'd be without you (What I'd be) God only knows what I'd be without you (God only knows) God only knows what I'd be without you (What I'd be) God only knows what I'd be without you (God only knows) God only knows what I'd be without you (What I'd be) God only knows what I'd be without you (God only knows) God only knows what I'd be without you (What I'd be) God only knows what I'd be without you (God only knows)

It's Fine Press Friday!
The donation from the estate of our late friend Dennis Bayuzick includes a couple hundred fine press books. Today we showcase a copy of A Travel Book, written and illustrated by American artist, educator, and arts administrator Fred Martin and printed in 1976 under the direction of Andrew Hoyem at his Arion Press in San Francisco in an edition of 200 copies signed my Martin and Hoyem. Dennis's collection holds two copies, one bound and another in unbound signatures in a portfolio case.
Fred Martin, who was retiring after a long career at the San Francisco Art Institute, rewrote the notes he had made during a 1971 round-the-world trip and created 42 color linocuts based on his watercolor designs for this publication that was printed in handset Inkunabula type, designed by Raffaello Bertieri in 1921 for the Nebiolo type foundry, on specially-made cotton paper by the Curtis Paper Company. The binding is by Susan Spring Wilson with a silkscreened-printed cloth design by Martin.
Martin wrote in the exhibition catalog Four Decades that he "thought it would be great to take the 1971 text, revise it into an almost mythological story and to develop illustrations to fit." For the project, he studied medieval and Islamic illuminated manuscripts and drew inspiration from "everything from Jung to Avicenna, from my mystical geometry to Byzantine art to Islamic calligraphy to Buddhist pagodas to a kick in the pants from Bill Wiley (he never knew)."

Does Deadpool Collect Kids?
Here I am in Spideypool Hell, which results in me looking at the closest people to both of them. I sort of grew up with Spider-Man (video games, cartoons, and movies long before I ever touched a comic) so of course I’m looking at Deadpool first. Who doesn’t love new information? Treading old ground is boring!
(Also Spiderverse shit is confusing. So. Many. Spiders.)
And I came to the realization that Wade’s kind of...surrounded by kids.
Of course he has a kid (multiversely he has a few) but he’s close with more than just that kid.
So here is what I think of as Wade Wilson’s Pseudo-Family aka Kids Who Put Up With His Shit. Be prepared for way too many pictures.
Eleanor Camacho
Tumblr media
This adorable baby is Ellie. She’s eight-ish years old (maybe nine or ten now? comic book time is weird) and currently Wade’s only canon child in main continuity. Her whole situation is a bit complicated, but Wade loves her more than anything in the world. And actually, she was a lowkey fan of Deadpool before she knew he was her dad. She loves her dad and she even goes behind her foster mom’s back to try to get him to visit, said foster mom being SHIELD Agent Emily Preston. Wade has forgotten she exists (again) to protect her (AGAIN) but she watches news reports about him and actually interfered with a killing mission he had in a theme park her class happened to have a field trip to.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She’s a baby Spideypool shipper too.
Tumblr media
Ellie is Wade’s weak spot, and he only tells people about her if he trusts them. The ones that come to mind are people he likes, namely Shiklah, Spidey, and Rogue, as well as two kids further down on this list. Wolverine and Captain America know too, but because they were part of the mission where he found out about her. Super Soldier team-up.
Also, here’s her in the future. She’s a badass.
Tumblr media
I love her so much.
Warda Wilson
Tumblr media
(Full disclosure, I did minor editing on this panel because this is the one image of her full body without her mask and they gave her pupils that she has in no other panels and it bothered me so I fixed it)
Wade’s daughter in the 2099 future with his ex-wife, succubus and monster queen Shiklah, and she goes by Deadpool. She had a vendetta against Wade at first for supposedly betraying Shiklah and held him captive. But Ellie rescued him, they cleared things up, and they work together as a family, all three of them, plus brain-ghost Preston.
Tumblr media
Deathpool
Tumblr media
Exclusive to the video game Marvel Strike Force, but she’s so neat I had to include her. Literally born from “the power of love” between Deadpool and Death, she takes over her mom’s job but is a total daddy’s girl; he trained her to wield weapons and be a quippy little shit, and until he was snapped by Thanos because he’s got issues, she’d visit him on occasion.
(She doesn’t have a canon “normal” name, but I like the name Evita Wilson. It rearranges the letter of the word “vitae” which is Latin for “life” and y’know irony. Plus Evita is the name of both a musical and a Madonna album and you cannot tell me Wade wouldn’t love that)
Itsy Bitsy
Tumblr media
Not a friendly, but biologically his daughter (and Spidey’s) from Evil Science Shenanigans. Formerly Susan Mary, a play on “Mary Sue”. She calls both of them “daddy” and even wears a Spiderpool emblem shirt. She’s pretty extreme. Bloodthirsty. Wade actually had to stop Spidey from killing her because Peter was so scared of her and someone was messing with his head. He cut Wade’s head off to try to keep him from interfering. It was kinda nuts. Wade ended up doing what he thought was killing her to keep Spidey’s hands clean. She’s not gone though...
Tumblr media
Master Matrix
Tumblr media
Another Spideypool kid, no shit. A good one too! And a rare boy on this list! A robot of some type discovered by Richard and Mary Parker, so already hitting home for Peter. After a short villainous confusion after waking from stasis, he was basically taken under Spider-Man’s and Deadpool’s wings and called them both “Father”. The arc is literally officially titled “My Two Dads”. They act like his parent and it’s just *chefs kiss* It’s a whole thing. MM gives off weird vibes, but all in all, he just wants to help. He’s a good boy!
He even gets them to hug!
Tumblr media
He then proceeds to send them on a bonding road trip with just...so much Spideypool. That’s where the “Why are you holding my hand?” “It helps me focus.” comes from. And so much fourth-wall breaking and writer interference. Spidey even plays along with Wade’s fourth-wall-breaking shenanigans even though he doesn’t believe it. It’s the best.
Now we move to ones who aren’t his kids!
Gwendolyne Poole
Tumblr media
Gwenpool and Deadpool weren’t chummy at first; she didn’t read his book and thought he was too “lol memes”. But they actually got to be pretty friendly. They’re buddies now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He helped Gwen when she was having an existential crisis and is currently the caretaker of her pet Jeff the Land Shark who is the cutest thing and I love him. He even dresses as Gwen once to make Jeff happy it’s adorable.
Tumblr media
I also think he rocks Gwen’s look. He looks great.
Ellie Phimister
Tumblr media
Everyone knows about Negasonic Teenage Warhead from the movies where they have that affectionate deadpan snark between them. When they first met, Wade’s group had been contracted to kidnap her. She evaded everyone else, but when met with Deadpool who literally tried to talk her into being kidnapped, she had a vision where he said he wouldn’t leave her behind, and she literally just surrenders.
Tumblr media
When Wade finds out what is happening to his targets, he goes in to save her. She has a particular loyalty to Wade and sticks by him pretty much no matter what, but she gradually settles into that deadpan sarcasm.
Tumblr media
She takes his nonsense with a straight face and doesn’t tolerate his bullshit. Or at least snarks right back at him.
Tumblr media
She’s also one of the few who for sure know about the other Ellie, Eleanor, and looks out for her.
Tumblr media
Gabrielle Kinney
Tumblr media
A little unexpected, but adorable! Gabby Kinney, also known as Scout or Honey Badger, which is amazing. She don’t give a FUCK. She’s a clone of Laura Kinney, aka X-23 and Wolverine, who is another clone daughter of Logan/James/OG Wolverine. She and Wade bonded over their scars and they’re besties now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There aren’t a whole lot of instances of Wade and Gabby together, but every SINGLE one is absolute gold. They’re so fucking CUTE. Prepare for so many panels.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Have you seen anything more precious? Best friends.
Evan Sabahnur
Tumblr media
Formerly Kid Apocalypse, also known as Genesis. Long story, but pretty much explained in the above page. Wade in particular was determined to save him, as killing him didn’t sit right for some reason, and he was certain that despite everything, Evan was a good kid. When shit went down and Evan didn’t think he could return to the Academy, Wade took him in. Like, brought him to the home he bought across the street from Eleanor and the Prestons.
Tumblr media
Wade even says he’ll never have a son, (this is before MM, but it’s funny cuz biologically and multiversely, he does only have daughters) but if he did he’d like him to be like Evan, which is hilarious to me. But that kinda makes what Wade says super sweet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He also saves Ellie.
Tumblr media
Haruka Hida
Tumblr media
From Deadpool Samurai, she goes by Sakura-Spider and is a blatant Peter Parker rip-off. Literally she lives with her Aunt Mei and her Uncle Tsutomu which the kanji can also be read as Ben. No shit. The only real difference is the spider bit her on her face and it scarred, hence the spots under her eye. BUT she’s Deadpool’s partner in Japan and she’s super cute. Typical manga protag girl but what can you expect?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Legit buy them they’re super fun and it’s worth it especially if you like manga it’s so dumb and I love it please buy it)
Neiro Aratabi
Tumblr media
Another Deadpool: Samurai character. As said above, she’s an idol in Japan. She’s bonded to an amnesiac symbiote she calls Kage (in case you aren’t up on Japanese, it’s pronounce like “kah-gay” and it means shadow). They like chocolate. She doesn’t get a lot of screen time, but she’s happy being part of the team. She’s content as long as people think she’s cute, for, of course, over-dramatic very anime reasons.
That is ELEVEN CHILDREN. And I’m a newb, this might not even be all of the kids he’s close to!
For comparison, Bruce Wayne has SIX kids (Dick, Jason, Cass, Tim, Duke, and Damian). He has a few other pseudo-kids, Barbara Gordon, Stephanie Brown, and maybe Helena Bertinelli and Maps Mizoguchi, but like...dude.
I need everyone to know that Deadpool is good with kids.

I have started an autistic!Wilson fic but after that is finished I may answer the call to write an extremely angsty Kerry Weaver character study fic (probably with a Susan/Kerry ship affiliation because I have never been fully able to get past Sandy outing Kerry). I have been rewatching ER and my girl deserves better. She is the very best, I adore her with my entire being, and like 80% of "protagonists" of the show participate in a campaign to hurt her for no clear reason except that she doesn't seem neurotypical. It would probably be some heavy angst because when I watch certain scenes in seasons 7/8 I get the distinct sense of "this character is severely depressed to the point of being suicidal, and no one knows or cares." It would probably follow the trajectory of Susan realizing at some point just how bad things have gotten for Kerry since she left, and feeling Remorse.
Rewatching ER sometimes feels like watching someone's villain origin story. Because Kerry starts out intense, but clearly trying very hard to make friends. She just wants to make things better for everyone. And she has Ideas of how to do that and wants to share them. But by season 8 she starts to close off and retreat behind walls of hostility, because all the nt characters were attacking her anyway. She starts looking out for herself more, because she is aware that everyone else hates her for things she can't fully control, and would stab her in the back eagerly and happily if they got the chance. She becomes less "let me help you all with my Charts!!!" and more "I need to stay on top to survive please don't take the only thing I have in my life away from me let me just have this job." So if Kerry stayed at County General until a hypothetical season 23, and a new character is like "why is she so closed off/cold/compulsively pushing everyone away?", the flashback sequences would be to seasons 2-8.
I may also answer the call to write a surprising friendship fic between House and Kerry because of character parallels I've discussed in a previous post and because I think it would really work. They would NOT get along working together, but at a conference, especially post ER season 7, they might become quasi-kindred spirits. Because they both NEED to be right to justify their existence, and I think House would recognize how Kerry is slowly becoming afraid of showing any kind of soft edge to people, even if he would never acknowledge that recognition. I think they would settle into a kind of "I would rather crawl over glass than work with you, but outside of work we can sit and drink and ruminate about how other people are wrong and ignore how we are one of each other's only friends" dynamic. They are similarly intense, but in conflicting ways (Kerry hyperfixates on administration and House hyperfixates on cases in a way that makes him rebel against administrators). Also Kerry just deserves a friend.

Clytemnestra's Bind [ARC Review]
Tumblr media
Release Date: 15th June 2023 Overall Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Tragedy Level: 😭😭😭
Before we get into this review, here are some trigger warnings to keep in mind before reading this novel: Brutal Murders of Children (especially in the first few chapters), Violence and Rape.
My Review:
Clytemnestra’s Bind by Susan C. Wilson is a Greek Tragedy in every sense of the phrase. The novel centres on Queen Clytemnestra of Mycenae. In the Greek myths, she is Helen of Troy’s twin sister and is known for killing her husband Agamemnon upon his return from the Trojan War.  This was after he had sacrificed their eldest daughter, Iphigenia to the Gods. The novel details her life long before Iphigenia’s death.
The book is split into three parts. Part 1 starts with the invasion of her kingdom and having her first husband and child brutally taken from her. Part 2 covers her subsequent marriage to Agamemnon, her relationship with her three eldest children; Iphigenia, Electra, Orestes. Part 3 covers the crux of Clytemnestra’s notoriety in the Greek myths as she plots Agamemnon’s demise after Iphigenia is sacrificed.
Susan paints a beautifully tragic portrait of Clytemnestra and her life. I kept thinking how much can one woman take before she completely snaps. Susan fully understands the genre she is working with and completely delivers. I could feel our heroine’s pain at every single turn. I had to put the book down several times to sit with it and let the devastation wash over me. Yet I appreciate how the author had done it. It was unflinching and tragic without being too gratuitous. The novel provides an excellent example of female rage that showcases how Clytemnestra gets to the point of murdering Agamemnon.
I also adored how well developed Clytemnestra is and the insights we get from her point of view. So much of her life happens to her rather than her being the driving force of it. It is admirable to see how she still pushes through and tries her best to do right by her children after having lost her first family. Her relationships with everyone from her husband to his brothers, Menelaus and Aegisthus, her sister Helen to her children are all so unique and well written. The way she interacts with everyone is just so interesting to read and was a brilliant exploration into her character.
On its own, the novel is a tragic tale of a Queen who had gone through the most unimaginable horrors one can go through, losing most of the people she had loved and having her agency taken away from her. That is what makes her taking control of her life towards the end so satisfying.
As a reiteration of an old myth, Susan C. Wilson does an excellent job of building upon the lore. The hints and foreshadowing strategically placed all throughout the story as we know what is to come was exhilarating to read with a sense of dread knowing the tragedy looming amongst the characters.
All in all, I would recommend this book for anyone looking to read a well written tragedy that covers grief in a meaningful manner and illustrates the female rage in all its glory. For Greek mythology lovers, especially those who appreciate a good Greek Tragedy, this one was definitely made for us. Picking up on the foreshadowing felt like a fun session of ‘Connect the Dots’. That being said, once again I warn everyone to tread carefully as the book has depictions of rape, violence and brutal murders. Read safely and enjoy this book everyone!
Thank you to Neem Tree Press and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

218 - The Meddler
Tumblr media
Vanity Fair’s chief critic Richard Lawson return to us this week to talk about a piece in a trend of films about aging women self-actualizing, Lorene Scafaria’s The Meddler. Starring Susan Sarandon as a widow ingratiating herself to her writer daughter (played by Rose Byrne) and her circle of friends, The Meddler provides a hilarious and heartwarming showcase for Sarandon, all told with uncommonly holistic observation by Scafaria. The film premiered at TIFF in 2015, earning deep affection from some critics like Richard and Joe, but was ultimately held until the following late spring, leaving an uphill climb in 2016′s stacked Best Actress race.
This episode, we talk about our love of the film and Richard’s placement of it at the top of his best films of 2016. We also talk about Scafaria’s depiction of her own mother, Byrne’s underrated brilliance within a varied career, and tense Apple store Q&As. And we’ve got an update on Vulture’s Movies Fantasy League!
Topics also include J.K. Simmons’ glorious mustache, old-baiting the AARP Movies for Grownup voters, and Joe’s personal paradise, The Grove.
