I was curious if you also have OCs? Like for HOTD? I kinda like to imagine stuff with an own character. I have one called Lunaerys. Which names would you like, if you already not have some? :)
I have a Baratheon character for HotD basically just looks and acts like me lmao but her name is Lyra
Then I have a Tyrell oc for HotD she has red hair and blue eyes her name Roselia
I have a peasant oc for Asoiaf she has black hair and brown eyes I made her Tyrions love interest. Her name is Lou
Lastly I have an oc she is Daenerys' wife her name is Suspria and she's originally dothraki but was sold to a slaver in Mireen then bought her freedom and became a bard, she then changed her name to Dandylion and traveled all over Essos with her lyre.
Dandy is my most fleshed out oc

I can understand jumpscares getting some hate, especially if one just simply does not like the jolting feeling of them, but as someone who loves that feeling, the thing i cannot god damn stand about shitty horror "jump scares" is when its just something mildly surprising happening on screen (that would be totally normal in any other movie) and they play and EXTREMELY LOUD musical cue over it like some crazy suspensful jump scare just happened. But like it didn’t. You just played a scary noise. There was no build-up, no tension, no suspense. Jump scares are so easy and simple to nail a stample of cheap horror, and yet movies still manage to fuck them up???
I remember complaining about a few jump scares in the texas chainsaw reboot movies from the 2000s but those situations actually had something somewhat scary happening in the scene even if everything else wasn't there. But the freaking Halloween half reboot movies are just non stop playing high-pitched violins over women's boyfriends just like... walking up on them somewhat unexpectedly. Its just like, how can you be this bad! I expected nothing and got even less!
In other news i think it was Suspria (2018) that had 1 reaaaally good jump scare that got me so bad it felt like my heart left my body (at least i hope im remembering that right). It was an extremely good movie, would recommend.

Location: Fox Tower  Date: October 31 Time: 10:48 p.m. (CLOSED for @rollinsgrant)
Akira knows he should probably feel guilty because he’s not at the Vixen party. That him hiding in his dorm room is both pathetic and weak. There are going to be Foxes and Vixens who will have no qualms in sharing that with him come tomorrow either. But two movies into his totally not scheduled horror movie binge night Akira can’t really find it in himself to care. Horror movies have always been able to put him in a better mood, the worse they are the better. He’s not sure when it all started but for most of his life if him or one of his sister had a bad day they’d build a blanket fort and watch movies late into the night...not always with parental approval. But even without his sisters and his ancient quilt covering him his mood is light years ahead of where he’d been earlier in the week.
He’s picked all of his top favorites, the movies he’s seen more times than he has fingers and toes. He’s got them memorized from beginning to end, even the bad sound effects that he tries to mimic. His sisters always hated it when he narrated the movie, elbowing him and telling him to shut up while throwing popcorn in his face. He kind of misses them but it’s not too hard to admit that he doesn’t miss their sharp elbows digging into his sides. He’s so into the movie that he almost doesn’t hear the knock on his doors. He jumps, spilling his bowl of bad decisions on the floor and it takes him a minute to figure out what should happen next. He’d bee certain enough that he was alone that the TV volume is up pretty damn high and there’s no saying how loud he’d been either. It’s a little bit mortifying.
He stands and puts the bowl on the couch before walking to his door and opening it a crack. He’s wearing sweats and a faded high school exy sweatshirt and it’s is probably one of the last things he wants people he doesn’t know to see him in. Least of all a stray Vixen looking for any straggling Foxes. He’s doomed. It’s an utter relief to see Grant though and without a second though Akira opens the door all the way. “Grant? What are you...” He’s not entirely sure what to say. Because Grant could be here for any number of reasons really. Akira just smiles and hopes for the best of all the people to find him he’s glad it’s Grant. “You, uhm, know you’ve got purple feathers in your hair right?”

Someone asked me recently and I forget whether it was on here or elsewhere, but they wanted to know what my favourite horror film franchise is. It’s the Three Mothers trilogy by Dario Argento (Suspiria [the 70s one, not to be confused with the remake], Inferno, and Mother of Tears)! But I’m partially biased because Dario Argento is my favourite filmaker and I love paranormal and slasher horror movies.

Is enhancing creepiness through dance a thing?
Did anyone else see the Suspiria remake this weekend?
youtube
Normally I wouldn’t consider watching a rehashing of a horror masterpiece (featuring one of my favourite horror movie theme songs), especially one starting Dakota Johnson!  But I was intrigued by the idea of Luca Guadagnino making a horror film (kinda like when Jim Jarmusch made a vampire movie... which I also rewatched last week - Only Lovers Left Alive)
So with Luca (and Tilda Swinton I guess) in mind, I made my way to the theatre.
Suspiria 2018 is not better than the 1977 original by Dario Argento.  I found the expanded plot necessary though the alterations to the main character are intriguing. The original soundtrack is also better.
What really stuck with me in Guadagnino’s version was the camera work, editing, and overall imagery. There are three major scenes involving a dance, the first a dazzle of inter-cutting between two settings, quite grotesque.  The second and main sequence drugs you visually, I’d like a chance to see this again to try and dissect it.  It’s beautiful but dark, intense and macabre. I haven’t seen a dance sequence that compelling since Aronofsky’s Black Swan.  Both films used a dance to heighten tensions and delve audiences into a darker frame of mind.  Is there a name for this?  Is this a device to elevate fear that has been used throughout the history of film?  Because if so, I don’t know about it.
If you’re on the fence about seeing Suspiria, I would say it’s worth a watch in a theatre with good sound. It’s not Dakota Johson’s worst performance, and it’s not Tilda Swinton’s best, but it’s got Luca Guadagnino written all over it.
