Hi can you recommend books that happen after when Crowley rescued Aziraphale from the Nazis?
Hello. You can check out our #post church scene tag for more fics like this. Here are a few more to add to the collection...
Your Lightning Lit Up the World by Suvroc (G)
After the Blitz, the 'lift home' missing scene - Aziraphale's introduction to and first ride in the Bentley go about as well as could be expected, and he’s left shaken (by that, and other revelations) to his very core.
At the bookshop, he finds out Crowley’s foxtrot over consecrated ground has not left him unscathed. Even with unresolved issues, can they possibly find a safe way forward after years apart? Of course they can, as long as they address absolutely nothing directly.
Underneath the dirt, dust and debris, something delicate and divine by Nenchen (T)
It's 1941.
After Crowley saving him and his books, Aziraphale just can't deny it anymore.
(Aka. They snog the ever loving shit out of each other. Then it get's a tad sad. Then not sad anymore!)
Panopticon by jenna221b (T)
“There appeared to be two miracles at work in the exact same place. At the exact same time. I’m sure you know such an amount of power for one… angel would be—”
“Miraculous?” Aziraphale interrupts. Irritation goads him into boldness. Do they honestly believe he is such a fool? Such a coward? There is no force, whether on Earth or in Heaven, that could possibly get him to implicate Crowley.
Michael’s expression hardens into steel. “Lying isn’t worth the trouble, Aziraphale.”
And, while it is an incredibly muted sound, Aziraphale chances a scoff. He knows he is being too blasé, too daring, but he can’t help it; he is buoyed by the memory of a rakish demon doing the impossible, acting like the greatest act of love was the most natural, easiest thing in the world. He thinks of that night, how Crowley had fallen asleep without even finishing his glass of brandy, soles still pink and raw. He thinks: oh, my dear, you are worth all the trouble in the world.
Aziraphale smiles at Michael sweetly. Unflinching. “Ah, not to worry,” he says. “I’m afraid angels cannot lie.”
The Waves by Marbled Wings (G)
Aziraphale is busy trying to make a war-torn London a little easier for people to bear but however hard he tries, he cannot escape the truth that haunts him wherever he goes; that he is in love with Crowley.
All First Editions by cyankelpie (G)
The only thing Aziraphale can say for certain is that the books should not have survived. He's going to need to sit down for a while and sort out all the rest. Unfortunately, he isn't very good at processing emotions, especially ones he's been in denial about for who knows how long. It's a messy process.
Hope in Times Like These by inconvenientlydiscorporated (T)
Aziraphale was, technically, on apple tree duty.
The only problem with that, was the wily serpent in the garden.
For the better part of six-thousand years, Aziraphale had worked to keep himself away from the forbidden fruit. More than that, he had convinced himself that obtaining the fruit was an impossibility. He was an angel, Crowley was a demon. An angel shouldn't love a demon, and a demon could not love an angel.
But the books -- he couldn't explain the books.
After eighty years apart, after finally convincing himself that he had been right all along -- convincing himself he had overcome the temptation -- the serpent brought knowledge back to him from a dead man's grasp. It had been eighty years, surely they couldn't just fall back into place, just like that? But then...
"There's a show in town," Aziraphale said suddenly. "Tonight. I was going to go, after all the business with the books. You should go with me."

New week and a new header! What do you think?
Anathema Device is the main character in all the fics, the description details the others.
As usual, all the fics are rated G or T and SFW. If I missed a tag or cw, let me know.
And Ghost Makes Three by CelestialArcadia - 478 words, G, a ghost. Summary:  When Anathema moved to Tadfield, everyone forgot to mention that Jasmine Cottage was haunted. Oops.
The Crêpes of Wrath by ngk_is_cool – 1K, G, Newt. Summary: Newt and Anathema are having a fight. Apparently, making crepes is not a piece of cake.
We Can’t Name It Anathema by NotASpaceAlien – 565 words, G, Anathema's parents. Summary: Anathema's parents have a special child.
The Tadfield Line by Argyle – 695 words, G, Newton Pulsifer and Adam Young. Summary: Newt had been at it all morning.
Spontaneous Carnage by HopeCoppice – 639 words, G, War. Summary: After the Almost-Apocalypse, two beings find themselves adrift. It's a small world.
not to be reduced by them by ERNest – 596 words, G, Agnes Nutter. Summary: Sifting through her memories like that would be like examining a map of unknown bounds only by looking through a very long, very narrow tube, and then translating the kind of person she was back then into the kind she is today. “You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.” ― Maya Angelou, Letter to My Daughte.
Flat Tyres by Dreary_Giraffe – 1.3K, G, Newton Pulsifer, Adam Young, The Them, Sergeant Shadwell, Dog. Summary: It was just a week after The Start Of The Rest Of Their Lives, and Anathema and Newt are already rolling over some bumpy roads.
Meet the Riders by BeezandBitches – 6.6K, T, The Horsepeople. Summary: Anathema is going to formally meet Pollution’s “family”, also known as the other Riders of the Apocalypse. Pollution’s nervous that they’ll make a fool of themselves and scare Anathema off. The others are having quite the time prepping before the lovers arrive. Death just needs a drink.
Damn Near Septic by WaldosAkimbo – 1.2K, T, Newton Pulsifer, Pollution. Summary: That's one way to stop an apocalypse....
Wheels Within Wheels by Suvroc (cuteandillusion) – 2K, T, Dick Turpin, Phaeton, Newton Pulsifer, R. P. Tyler. Summary: Dick Turpin (and his driver Newt) run out of fuel on their way to Tadfield. Phaeton (and their rider Anathema) come to their rescue. However, the humans don’t understand the compromising position they put their vehicles in. I mean, they just met!
Thanks for reading and sharing, and have a great week :)
Bonus - master list with all past recommendations!

Stroke of Grace
Stroke of Grace
by Suvroc (cuteandillusion)
Aziraphale brought both of Crowley’s hands up to rest on his waist, placing them there. The velvet. There is no velvet on Earth that is actually this soft , Crowley thought, as he slid his hands under his jacket and along his sides. He caressed the texture of the fabric, so plush and fine. Every stroke shed a few fibers. He could put them back. He would. Shouldn’t I?
“We probably shouldn’t sit this close,” Aziraphale whispered. -- In a stolen moment in 1800, Crowley gets a feel for velvet. Two-hundred years later, he longs to feel oh so much more.
Or, Aziraphale must learn to wear his Victorian outerwear as a shield. Will there ever be a time he can feel comfortable enough to disarm?

Why I woke up today with the overwhelming need to ask this ask, I don't know but -- it's a Tabula Rasa question: what about this story was self-indulgent to you?
Goodness what a question. What part wasn’t?
I mean for a start writing a crack AU of my own fic, very far removed from the original canon and therefore appealing to the four people who still remember flower show and thought it wasn’t angsty enough, that was pretty big for me, to deliberately write something with a very limited audience.
Also that there were some elements I just knew would be unpopular, like Raph and Esther, Eve both in concept and in execution, well, half the concept really. Everything about Esther, actually, I know people loved her but no one loved her like me. I know the genre is what made the story work, it’s impossible to hit an audience with the horrors of domestic abuse if they don’t already love the abuser as much as the characters, but I knew it would be a big thing to take on and I know some people hated it. I had to want and love all this stuff very much to put it on paper.
And you know the biggest thing was just... I’m not even sure how to express it. CW: DV coming up here. DV is terrible, and unless you’ve been there it’s hard to understand why smart, loving people stay, why people defend their abusers, why it’s hard to walk away, why people who should know better still victim blame, why it’s easy for a victim to blame themselves too. I’ve heard a lot of really shitty takes over the years from real misogynists to the most staunch feminists - it’s fucking hard to talk about and not have someone slap your hands away from it. The division of sympathy can turn from support to revictimisation real quick.
“The abuser is always at fault” quickly becomes “the victim has never done anything wrong” becomes “the abuser is an inhuman, unfathomable creature to hurt a blameless person” becomes “actually, now that he’s explained it, I can understand and she’s not blameless” becomes “maybe she’s just as bad as him” becomes “well if she didn’t antagonise him...”
It’s hard to say “I loved him and he was in real trouble and I couldn’t help him” without someone reminding you he’s an awful monster and even expressing sympathy for him is battered woman syndrome or something. It’s hard to say “he took me apart with a thousand paper cuts and I don’t know how much was abuse and how much was honesty” without someone pointing to police or hospital reports as the real abuse rather than a symptom of the cancer.
So, yeah, it was important to me, and self-indulgent, and fuck what other people think, to show it all play out. To make the absolute worst scene in that whole shitshow a moment when criticising the colour of someone’s jacket is as bad as any of the torture porn out there. I wanted a trauma narrative, I wanted to show at least a little slice of the reality of it, that it’s not an inhuman monster and a damsel in distress, there’s more to it. And I did it knowing it would tank my AO3 stats and that’s okay.
The hard part is sometimes reading through the comments and seeing I’ve done my job too well, reading how many people go “Well, maybe it was Aziraphale’s fault, really?” Which can be tough, but was also literally the point, to show how easily we fall into these patterns when it’s someone we care about.
Oh dear, this got a bit long, I hope I answered your question without traumatising you <3

Nearer to Thee
Nearer to Thee
by Suvroc (cuteandillusion)
As the pandemic grinds on, cracks begin to show in Aziraphale’s unconcerned attitude. Certainly, he has seen humanity through some tough times, but something feels different. Eventually he decides to put pen to paper and investigate some comforting memories and conflicting thoughts. (Link to art!)
