His fate contrasts with that of another, unrelated, Reinhardt, according to the 102-page study. Anton Reinhardt, a 17 year-old German Gypsy with a Swiss mother, swam the Rhine in 1944 and tried to claim asylum in Switzerland as a conscientious objector. He was expelled and later shot while trying to escape from a Nazi concentration camp.

“ Il vento è la principale avversità contro la quale devono combattere gli alberi, almeno in Europa. Oltre il 50% dei danni subìti dai boschi europei è dovuto al vento. Non sono gli incendi (16% dei danni) o i patogeni e gli insetti a minacciare i nostri boschi, ma il semplice vento. Dal 1950 a oggi, i danni da vento in Europa sono in continuo aumento: dal 1970 al 2010 gli alberi persi sono raddoppiati, passando da circa 50 milioni a 100 milioni di metri cubi. Si tratta di un enorme numero di alberi che cadendo a terra, oltre a cambiare radicalmente l’ecosistema, la stabilità e il paesaggio, riducono del 30% la capacità di fissazione della CO₂ nelle zone colpite. E la quantità di CO₂ nell’atmosfera è la causa prima del riscaldamento globale che, a sua volta, è una delle ragioni per cui assistiamo all’aumento della frequenza e della intensità di questi eventi. Tra il 28 e il 30 ottobre 2018, una tempesta di vento e pioggia investì ampie zone delle Alpi orientali con venti di velocità anche superiore ai 200 chilometri orari. Un numero spaventoso di alberi venne schiantato e decine di migliaia di ettari di bosco scomparvero. Una catastrofe naturalistica le cui conseguenze sono andate molto oltre i danni diretti sui boschi, innescando una serie di circostanze che nessuno avrebbe potuto prevedere. Fra queste, la più infausta di tutte, per me, è stato il danneggiamento del bosco di abeti rossi dal cui legno, da secoli, si ricavano le tavole armoniche dei grandi strumenti musicali. Cause ed effetti: a causa della CO₂ dispersa nell’atmosfera la temperatura del pianeta sale, i fenomeni atmosferici diventano violenti e le tempeste di vento distruggono gli alberi con cui si fanno i grandi violini, da sempre. “

The Swiss Special Fund for Needy Victims of the Holocaust decided on August 24, 1998 that only those Romani victims who were imprisoned in camps or under similar conditions during the World War II are eligible to apply to the Fund, despite previous statements that the Fund would give support to all persons who were persecuted for racial, religious, political or other reasons, and those who were in any other way victims of the Holocaust.
