I like armored core. I do. But I must say I hate some parts. One big one is the level/boss balance; the levels are super easy, but the bosses are insanely difficult, and that means you aren’t (or at least I haven’t been) even a little prepared for them. You can get that in like the tutorial level of other fromsoft games, but past that I think the fantasy ones have a much better balance
That’s fair. AC6’s biggest flaw, imo, is the fixation it has with Yamamura’s posture mechanic. It means that when you get into boss fights as the average person, unless you’re working around staggering bosses as rapidly as possible, you’re going to have a bad time.
It’s odd to me, because the game has systems in place that encourage build diversity, but the builds themselves are directly impacted by how well they interact with stagger.
I’m also pretty confident that the stagger mechanic being so prevalent is the reason that the range of weapons has been so pulled in compared to previous games. Also shots will just bounce off things when you’re too far away, which again, I’m certain is to prevent players from staggering things from too far away. That means that you have to place yourself within range of a boss to hit it, and you want to stagger it to both stop it hitting you and deal good damage to it, so you again, are pushed away from many builds and towards a select half dozen.
Every problem that AC6 has can basically be traced back to how forced the stagger mechanic is, imo, and it’s at its most prevalent in boss fights.
