Hello and Good day everyone!
We've had a freeze the last few days and a bunch of rain. So I haven't been able to get in the garden all that much till today.
Sadly the sweet potato vines have died off.
Tumblr media
Or are in the process of it, so I'm gonna be trimming them off and cleaning it out.
Tumblr media
I just went through for the moment and clipped up and off the vines. And cleaned the soil top up a bit.
Tumblr media
I guess I had a spaghetti squash in there, there's a dried up shell, I'll pull it qhen I get to digging the potato tubers out.
Tumblr media
I'll also be doing some doctoring up on the bed itself, we've decided to keep it awhile longer since it's done us so well.
Tumblr media
Trimmed up the asparagus in there too as it's yellowing. The vines this time I'll just be sending to the green program the city runs.
I'll post the tuber harvest later :) (once I've dug it up haha) for now~
🌱🌻Happy homesteading and gardening 🌻🌱

Garden update 10/18/2023
Not a big update but here's some pics of what's going on in the back right now
Tumblr media
All that vining is sweet potato vines! This was started as an experiment that's gone really well! We've been picking and eating the leaves. Between human consumption and bird consumption So I'd say there's been somewere between 5-13 lbs of leaves and vines consumed. Even if we don't get any tubers this was worth the time space and material it took to try it out. Plus the leaves have a kind of spinach like taste/texture when cooked so it's a double win for us.

The asparagus growing with the sweet potato. In honesty we thought this died during the summer heat so I was very happy to find it growing! ♥️

And some Moringa trees with a little shot of a background project that will be revealed in the future.

okay ‘adam being a Fed is homophobia’ etc etc is a Correct Take but consider the absolute accurate perfection of Matthew growing up to be a sweet potato farmer.

Back yard update 09/18/2023
A quick little back yard update:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Two different views of the tall bed. We're growing sweet potato vines in here along with an asparagus plant that's just barely visible under the vines. The asparagus has been there for a while but we thought it was dead from the heat until about a month ago when it started popping up all over in the area it was planted at.
Tumblr media
2nd grow bed with sweet potatoes growing in it. This is closer to where the ducks keep trying to nest at (we have been taking the eggs away since it's too hot and she's not had any success as of yet.)

Current seed starts, no sprouts yet but should see some soon
