Imagine modern!eddie with a swiftie girlfriend. Classic sunshine and grumpy relationship. You make him listen to all the albums and explain what each song means. Sometimes when you’re not with him but your 1989 CD is still in his car he’ll listen to it, cause he’s secretly a 1989 stan. He’s a sucker for new romantics, he relates to it a lot. He will (reluctantly) go to the eras tour with you and he’ll actually really enjoy himself. He’s obviously the designated photographer and videographer. Yeah he’s such a sweetie.

since Jack posted on his Stories that "You're Losing Me" was written in 2021 i've seen a fairly amount of people debating about whether Midnights was indeed a breakup album.
and even though i really don't like to discuss any artist's life on the internet anymore, i'll give my 50 cents on the matter just for the sake of a better interpretation of Midnights.
first, about Taylor and Joe.
i know their breakup was only confirmed in April of this year and many started questioning if it didn't happen sooner (even more now with the news about You're Losing Me). well, it's important to note that Taylor and Joe were seen together last December (2022) after Taylor did an interview with Variety about directing her video clips.
second, You're Losing Me can easily be interpreted as a song reflecting about a relationship, whether to keep trying or giving up (Do I throw out everything we built or keep it?) while also warning him that he is losING her (not as if he's already lost her like in the case of a breakup that happened), meaning it's still happening it's still not the end:
And I'm fadING thinkING
DO something, babe
SAY something
LOSE something babe
RISK something
(you're losing me)
CHOOSE something, babe
I got nothing to believe
UNLESS you're choosING me
throughout the whole song she is begging him to fight for their relationship because it'll eventually end because of his indifference.
so, what i think happened is Taylor and Joe were on a break for sometime (in which she wrote You're Losing Me and Hits Different) and since they were back together she initially wasn't going to release these songs but eventually did after they decided to end things for good.
that's why in Midnights (an album about reflections on life) there's songs that indicate things were bad but also about still clinging onto the relationship.
and that's my 50 cents on the matter and i really think it best fits with the interpretation of You're Losing Me and Midnights as a whole.

the way Taylor Swift is like “I wanna go out tonight, here’s some puzzles to solve kids” and it works every time

No in my case there's nothing like "snow at the beach" or "lavender haze". There's just ".I don't trust nobody and nobody trusts me, I'll be the actress starring in your bad dreams"
