Oooough, I reread Something's Wrong with Danny Fenton by @dp-belongs-in-a-hoodie and it's so so so good. Hit me in the feels as much as the first time.

(also, if you've read SWWDF, please read June, the little oneshot/missing scene. it is very good and tender. I drew fanart for it here a few years ago. The June art is particularly special to me because it was the first fairly complex background i'd drawn that i felt really proud of.)

A friend recently brought to my attention that Something's Wrong With Danny Fenton is now on the first page of DP fics when sorted by kudos (excluding crossovers) on AO3.

I'm genuinely so floored and SO SO grateful to everyone that has read and left kudos on SWWDF!

When I started it that year for Invisobang I never would've guessed that it would do as well as it's done. I worked so hard and I wrote something that I'm tremendously proud of. I'm happy that it's resonated with so many people. It was a lot of work to write and don't even get me started on the editing.

I will be eternally grateful to @kkachis for her skill and dedication as an editor - not only did she tackle that fuckin' thing, but she did so while remaining subjective and unafraid to tell me when the style was working and when I needed to reign it in. We both learned so much over those 3 months, and we continue to learn from eachother to this day.

To celebrate, and in honor of SWWDF, I want to show a little hint of something I've started working on to share with everyone.

When I started SWWDF, the thing that terrified me the most is that I knew I wanted to swing for the fences stylistically. I wanted to write it the way I would something that I was going to submit to a literary journal for publishing. I did this full well knowing that it may be a style that turned people away at the door. It's not for everyone and that's okay! Little did I know how many people would love it 😅

I struggled a lot in the beginning to find a balance between narrative fiction and my voice as a literary fiction writer. I had a low level but near constant anxiety that the style was "trying too hard".

My struggle and fears in 2021 is what's inspiring me to write an essay of sorts on this topic. If I could help or inspire other writers to play with style when it comes to fanfiction then that would make me pretty happy!

Anyway! Thank you again for this achievement!

Also! Let me know/send me an ask if any of you have specific questions you'd like me to address in the guide/essay about how I use/d style in fanfiction. Any questions will give me a better idea of what to narrow down on and cover.

I didn’t know you’re writing a sequel to swwdf!!!!!!! So excited to read it!!!

Yeah!! I actually started on it as soon as I finished the first vol. It's currently on the back burner. I haven't actively been working on it BUT its definitely not abandoned. Once the tank is refilled on the SWWDF vibes for me I will definitely be back for it. I have broad stroke outlines for the whole plot of the story I wanna tell. As it is I drop a couple hundred words into it now and again.

I recently discovered your fic; "There's Something Wrong With Danny Fenton" and fell in love! "Things That Bleed" is also turning out to be something awesome as well.

I had seen in your end chapter notes that you mentioned creating Volume II of "There's Something Wrong With Danny Fenton" but I haven't seen anything else about it. I was just curious if maybe you had moved on to other interests and dropped the second volume or something else. I love the fic and the follow-up "June" but haven't heard anything about it.

Hi! Thank you so much for sending this ask and also for having read my fics!

I do still intend to write SWWDF vol. II! However, as of right now it is on the back burner. I'm focused on TTB and some other projects I've got cooking, some dp and some not (Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has claimed me; I have so many turtle brain worms right now).

I adore SWWDF, but the thing that makes it so good also makes it incredibly taxing to write tbh: that being, I wrote it in a pretty literary style.

I've been thinking a lot about it recently tho and I know that when I come back to work on SWWDF vol. II, I want it to be even better than the first installment. For that, I wanna be a better writer. So i need read more and expand my skill and style so that I feel like I have more to work with when I approach SWWDF again.

tldr: I want to come back to swwdf eventually, but it's a very demanding style and for things to not get stagnant or repetitive I'm going to need to have more tools in my kit first, essentially.
